Last night as I was getting my shoes on to run I mentioned to my husband that I kept feeling a tiny bit of gravel in my shoe but couldn't seem to get it out. He promptly exclaimed, "THAT IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO BUY MORE SHOES!" :p I assured him I don't need to BUY more because I have a stock at home that I haven't worn yet. LOL

@skippygirlsmom Great job passing your goal!

    @greenolivetree ha ha Thanks!!

@MobyCarp Glad to see that you seem to be recovering well.

@Elise4270 Well now you're going to have to start calling it KTT tape.

@JessicaMcB @PastorVincent @skippygirlsmom Quick update on the race tat: it's still on and looking fresh, despite sleeping, showering twice more, and having clothing rub against it throughout parts of the day; it's showing no signs of coming off any time soon. At this point, I have a feeling I could almost leave it on and still use it come race day. Almost.

So it's day two of the second week of taper, and a 50% reduction in running feels like I'm not doing anything at all. Instead of my usual run followed by a run with the group, I slept in and joined up with the group directly for a five mile jog. There were only three of us, and one of them was recovering from an ankle injury, so the pace was slow, but I feel absolutely great for it.

The other person in the group related to us the story of a runner that she knows that took part in a marathon this last weekend. It was his first marathon, and he was apparently running a great race and was set to run it in under three hours. He passed mile 26...and then woke up in hospital with an IV in his arm. DNF. Just how bummed would THAT make you feel? I mean, could no one slap the poor guy conscious and push him over the finish line?

    01 - 22.04
    05 - 12.10
    06 - 15.07
    07 - 12.43
    08 - 25.57
    10 - 13.29
    11 - 14.50
    12 - 11.42
    13 - 14.10
    14 - 9.70
    15 - 23.84
    18 - 11.22
    19 - 9.05
    20 - 11.34
    21 - 9.21
    22 - 16.47
    25 - 7.47
    26 - 4.95

    Total: 243.77 / 250 miles

That sounds like something that would happen to me. Dang, I would really want someone to just drag me over. Scraped knees and all. LOL

@PastorVincent I use a T5 Rebel too and I love it. I’ve decided when Skip graduates in May I’m going back to school for photography.

It is a great little camera and really does everything I could ever need, if not more. Most of the time I use my iPhone7+ for pictures because, well it is always in my pocket and actually does a decent job, but for special shots (like that moon) I break out the Rebel and get to work.

I had the original Rebel when it first came out and I literally wore out the shutter on it in less than 2 years. This T5 will last longer mainly cause I have a lot less free time currently. Which I guess is good and bad

Definitely. If my kid ever decides sports are for him, I probably bring the Canon for that. For now, his primary sport is arguing about going to school and doing homework LOL

So, I just received my non-acceptance e-mail from the Boston Athletic Association. Not really caring too much other than that slight stab from the "you weren't fast enough" email. But the shocker was the actual cut-off time. You needed to be 3 minutes and 23 seconds under qualifying. That's a huge jump from last year's 2:09. There are going to be a lot of mighty disappointed people out there. I wonder if BAA is going to consider re-evaluating their qualifying standards. It's pretty crappy to think you qualified only to find out that you didn't and the way things are trending, you almost have to target a BQ minus 5 minutes anyway.

I've not gotten up to a full marathon distance - I'm probably going to attempt my first later this month. But the qualifying time for my age/gender is 3:05. I couldn't possibly do that, so targeting 3:00 vs. 3:05 makes no substantial difference.

I thought after the 2:28 cutoff in 2016 they might reconsider the standards; but I see the 2019 standards are unchanged from 2018 and prior years. I expect a cutoff over 5 minutes ought to make the standards move, but I don't know what BAA would consider good reason to change.

Oh, well. Just have to beat my BQ target by 10 minutes to feel safe now. If the trend continues, I could see registration closing at the end of the 1st week next year or the year after with a cutoff over 5 minutes.

    9/26 = vinyasa yoga class
    9/27 = 11 miles (8 five minute speed intervals)

MapMyRun had me doing speed intervals this morning - in my new FREE shoes I won last week! :) They arrived in the mail yesterday.

One thing after another happened after I got back from my run - my poor dog thew up, my daughter's ride fell though and I had to drive downtown to get her to campus, and I got caught behind a bad accident and sat in traffic forever. At 1:00 pm, I was 30 minutes late for work and I had not eaten anything ALL DAY. I felt like my stomach was eating a hole in the back of my spine. Long story short, I had an emergency fast food stop that I inhaled in seconds. I am scared to fill out my food diary now..... Lesson learned? I need to always keep emergency snacks on me at all times. Especially on running days!

    167.5/175 (September goal miles)

    Upcoming Races:
10/28 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
    12/10 = BCS Marathon
1/6/18 = River Road Run Half Marathon

    @shrcpr thanks for remembering.
The training is going along ok. Last Saturday's 11 miles were done in higher temps that made it seem like running through a steam bath. I tried eating a small b'fast first, which was iffy at best. And I'm going to go shopping today for some sort of fueling source. My energy ran out, had me walking most of mile 10 and some of mile 11. :( This Saturday is 12 miles, so I hope to be better prepared. The temps are supposed to be much cooler, too. Hurray!

I hope you get back to your sunnier self soon. Take care.

@lporter229 where is the "that sucks" button when I need it. I'm sorry you didn't get in. You are right it does suck to qualify and then get in.
@amymoreorless not a good day, hope it gets better

saw this article posted in a facebook running group page...thought it worth sharing as I can imagine the hurt/frustration/disappointment....but the writer also is reminding us/you of this fact.....your accomplishment of reaching a BQ time is not diminished in the least by not making this years curve.

In fact, what they suggest is you should hold on to the memories and feelings you likely had that day your ran your marathon of joy/happiness/pride. The work and effort was recognized by not only the time you accomplished as well as becoming a better you in doing your best.

Another taper day, another day of feeling like I haven't really done anything! And tomorrow is going to be more of the same. I may even forego meeting up with the group and just run locally in order to benefit some extra time in bed, which is always nice.

Anyways, must continue to taper, must continue to resist the urge to run further!

    9/1 - Rest day
9/2 - 13.18 miles. Very slow, mostly walking. Really struggled with low BG throughout entire run. Depleted electrolytes and had cramping towards end and afterwards.
    9/3 - Rest
    9/4 - Cross train - hiked 10 miles.
9/5 - Unplanned rest day - seems like I might have sprained left ankle.
9/6 - 6.34 miles (plan was for 8, but trying to be easy on ankle ahead of HM on 9/9)
9/7 - Unplanned rest - trying to rest ankle for HM and spare electrolytes
    9/8 - Rest
9/9 - 12.74 Wabash Trace HM 2:02:08 (we all took a wrong turn shortly after start, causing the short distance)
    9/10 - Rest
    9/11 - Rest
    9/12 - 5 miles treadmill intervals
    9/13 - 8.04 miles
9/14 - 5 miles treadmill, low BG issues and generally not good :(
    9/15 - Rest
9/16A - 9.12 miles fasting, with electrolytes and yohimbine. Good BG's, indicating yohimbine is working to release stubborn fat, but slow run. Plan was for 18 miles today. Stopped for rain and because pace was so slow.
9/16B - 5.01 miles - did not get to 18 today, but stopped because it was dark and I was worn out
    9/17 - Rest
    9/18 - Rest
9/19 - 5.0 miles treadmill before weight lifting
9/20 - Unplanned rest day. BG's high in the afternoon and I'm exhausted so going to bed early.
9/21 - 5.0 miles treadmill before weight lifting
    9/22 - Rest
9/23 - Unplanned rest (BG Issues)
9/24 - 18.01 miles; everything went really well until about mile 12 when I started to feel muscle pains of electrolyte depletion. Swung by home and got 2 electrolyte tablets, but it wasn't enough. Walked most of the last 2 miles.
    9/25 - Rest
9/26 - 5.0 miles treadmill before weight lifting
9/27 - 5.70 miles 'race pace' (actually was faster than race pace… yea!)

I'm so far behind that I'm not going to reach goal

    Upcoming Races:
    9/9/17 - Wabash Trace HM
10/21/17 - Oregon Trail Run HM (Maybe switching to marathon)

@Iporter299 that’s really crappy…I can only imagine how disappointed you are ☹

@amymoreorless That's why my car is always full of snacks for Anya (my toddler daughter), because secretly I count on them as my "emergency food"

No run today - super busy at work, then had an hour between 3:30 and 4:30 for a run...went outside and immediately turned around and went back to my office - way too hot. I learned my lesson long time ago - my body does not respond well to running in high heat and humidity. Shooting for a morning run tomorrow.
