Your advice to the old you ...

1-Someone once told me your skinny friends don't want you to lose weight because they don't want the competition. Your fat friends don't want you to lose weight because misery loves company.
You will be surprised by some people not caring about your weight loss and you will be surprised by some people cheering you on. But always remember this is about YOU and for YOU!! Don't let others dictate your feelings about your progress.
2-Be proud of yourself every step of the way. My weight loss journey started when I did a weight loss challenge with my mom and sister in law. I'm 5'3.5" and my starting weight was 243 lbs. (a number I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around, but carried around for nearly 2 years...). At our first weeks weigh-in I had dropped 8 lbs.! But in my brain I was still 235 lbs. I can't remember if I grumbled or rolled my eyes, but pride was not my reaction. The coach looked at me and said, "be proud of that number. You worked hard for that number." He couldn't have been more right. Don't wait for the big goals to celebrate. Every single day you stay on track, every single pound you lose is worth celebrating.
3-It's going to be so hard and so awkward at times to say no to foods you've always loved and craved. But wow will you feel powerful when the temptation is gone and you took control of the situation.16 -
1. This is not who you are. The person you are is confident, active, and healthy. You'll be that person again.
2. Yes, you will run again.
3. Portion control is key above everything else.7 -
Don't be scared to go to the gym, the only person there who will be obsessing about you is you!8
-
Cut back on your carbs it's not as hard as you think, eat less calories, weigh your food, and don't be afraid to talk to the doctor about it.4
-
1. You're allergic to dairy.
2. Self control requires constant practice to become a habit
3. Don't just do cardio, start lifting, and lift heavy. This would have gone so much smoother if you started lifting in the beginning.1 -
1. Start kettle bell training now, it's the perfect combo of strength and cardio!
2. online bathing suites still won't fit just because you drop 40 pounds, don't waste the money
3. Be patient
4. Be consistent8 -
Happy with the choices I made when I actually made the decision to lose the excess weight so with hindsight I would have said to myself at the start of my weight loss "it's really not as hard as you thought it would be".
Maybe I would have added that I should be realistic about my selected goal weight, the perfect weight in my 50's wasn't the same as my perfect weight in my 20's.
But really annoyed with myself for staying fat for 20 years - I would love to be able to go back 20 years and give myself a huge kick up the *kitten* and tell myself to take responsibility for how much food I ate and stop blaming other people, circumstances or injury.
Probably something along the lines of "Man up fatty, every mouthful is a choice".10 -
1: You hate cardio, do the weights instead! Weights will not make you "bulky"
2: Fluctuations happen. Get use to it.
3: There is no such thing as "I can't eat it, I'm on a diet" if you're sensible.
4: It's easier when someone is losing weight with you.
5: You didn't lose "just" a pound or a half a pound. You worked hard and sacrificed for that little adjustment on the scale. Celebrate it!!
6: There will always be someone who will try to belittle your achievement. *kitten* them!4 -

You will need to do this for the rest of your life, so take your time.
Moisturize your skin lol.
You can run.
Don't give up; the blood, sweat and tears will all be worth it.2 -
- Losing weight won't fix your self-esteem.
- Stop letting your health fall into the background--make it a primary concern.
- You are far more capable than you realize you are.
- Appreciate the process; don't just rush for the results.
- Cut the starches--you feel better without them.
- Weigh and measure your food.
- Exercise is a huge and necessary stress-reliever for you. Slacking on it will stir the self-esteem/stress monster.
5 -
1. Food will not always control your life, you will someday find happiness without it.
2. You are stronger than you think.
3. Keep going, someday you will meet your goals.3 -
Just do it already. Stop coming up with excuses not to lose weight and commit to it right now.3
-
Eat healthy now.1

You don't need a pie9

More protein. Less Alcohol. A more consistent approach to exercise, especially resistance / weight based training.

The quick fix is not the answer.
Weight loss is not linear it goes up and down step back to see the trend.
Sometimes smaller clothes are a better indicator than a scale.
You are in this for you.
What worked for someone else might not work for you, experiment, trial and error.
Body image is a state of mind, it will take a while to see results that others say you show.5 -
No, you are not big boned, or big because of your hypothyroidism, or destined by fate to be overweight forever. You are overweight because you have eaten too much food over the course of your entire life.
But don't stress out. You will experience looking at yourself in the mirror and liking what you see. You will be athletic. You will wear a bikini in public and feel a million bucks.7 -
Everything in moderation. You don't have to do it perfectly. I put so much pressure on myself to follow 100% a dozen different diets. But when I found I couldn't keep it up I threw in the towel.
When I finally stopped "dieting" I lost weight and kept it off.3 -
Buy a food scale.
Use the body weight scale as tool, not let it be and end all to your success and how you feel about your self.
Ample protein in your diet will prove vital.
You don't need alcohol, its halts fat loss during consumption, and do not need it as crutch in life.
Exercise is the best medicine. You will/are stronger physically therefore mentally and emotionally you are stronger too.
A lastly, low carb or restricting in any capacity is totally not necessary to lose and maintain.
Enjoy your WHITE potatoes.

Remember how you love manual labor like unloading trucks? Well, the weight room is going to make your whole year!
Also, COUNT YOUR CALORIES! It's that EASY. That's it. The rest is just fun.4 -
Let one bad day be just that---one bad day.
Don't give up or let go, the habits that cause the numbers on the scale to go down are working.
Take some "before" measurements and photos, and hang on to at least one outfit from your heaviest to remind yourself of where you started.
Weight loss is not linear. Sometimes when the scale is not moving, you are still losing inches.
Love yourself. Seriously, love yourself. You are an amazing, strong woman who is capable of huge things.
Be honest with all of your logging, and do it every single day.
MAKE time. Everyone is busy.
Be consistent, in movement and eating.
Fat is not the enemy. Sugar, on the other hand, is not your friend.
Your little one is always watching. Be the example she needs.
Always try to figure out "why." If you know why, you can fix it.
Physical limitations do not define what you can do.
Did I mention you're awesome? You really are.10 -
CAPSULE WARDROBE
If you have a significant amount to lose, you will replace your entire wardrobe...multiple times. Buy only basics in a very limited array of colors so everything matches with everything else. And for the love of god, buy it all second hand.8 -
Great thread.
A few stand outs for me 66 pounds down, 24 to go.- Don't do anything you aren't ready to do for the rest of your life
- It's a lifestyle not a race
- LIFT WEIGHTS !!! Cardio is cardio. Lifting will shape your body. Do it NOW.
- You will fall. You get back up. End of story.
7 -
- Stay the course - it's working
- Keep measuring and counting calories - don't guesstimate.
- Start lifting as soon as possible.
- Buy quality running shoes - don't skimp on quality or you'll pay for it (plantar fasciitis)
- Don't make excuses to neglect rules 1 -4.
