What irks me is the new years eve resolutionist at the gym. I understand "new year, new you," but it is sad that they will all be gone mid march. I just wish they would stay and get some routine going.
Today, I was swimming laps and several people came in at different times. They all would swim a lap and stop at the end of the lane and deeply breathe for a long period of time. I thought they were going have a heart attack. If you are going to start exercising, take it slow. Swim slow at first. Or start by walking. Get in a slow easy routine and then increase speed. You don't have to be an athlete all at once. Start slow.
I started in August and I started really slow. I started by walking 10 minutes on the treadmill at 1.5 mph pace. I am serious. Now, I try to swim 2 hours a day if I am lucky. Usually, I swim 1 to 1 1/2 hours a day. I think this is why I am lasting longer this time around. I started slow, made a routine, and now I am partially addicted to exercise.
