Upcoming races:
Looking at a 5K in Sanford NC on Oct 14

I guess I made up for not running yesterday...
Oct. 2 - 8.67km3 -
@WhatMeRunning Nice to see you back
@KatieJane83 Sorry you're injured
@7lenny7 Great pics as usual!
10/2 Walked .9 mile with hubby. It was very difficult for him and I felt bad for him. Took us 19 min. I guess a year of sickness really took a toll on him. I hope he doesn't give up.
Later I walked .5 mile, ran/walked 3, then walked .5 cool down. First mile running was painful and slow. Lots of stretching. I don't know what's up with me lately. But each mile got better.4 -
girlinahat wrote: »I have another goal for the month, and that is no alcohol. Yesterday I woke up tired from a night out to celebrate my birthday (it's today!!) and pretty much canned ALL of my plans. Not stupidly hungover, but just didn't do anything. I don't drink excessively all the time, but can have weekends where I don't do what I want to do, get tired, and don't meet my running goals. So I'm having a month off alcohol to see what it does to my body. It won't be a permanent change as I like the odd beer, cocktail or glass of wine, but it will be nice to have a break.
Oh, and happy birthday!4 -
@skippygirlsmom I actually love laying back down and falling asleep again, but usually when it happens I have somewhere important that I need to be!
@KatieJane83 Sorry to hear about the injury - hope it gets better with treatment.
@7lenny7 That was still a great run, and those pictures are terrific!
@WhatMeRunning Great to see you again!
No early morning start for me today! Upside is that I get to sleep in; downside is that I don't get to enjoy the cooler morning air, so tonight's run was back to 84F. Oh well, it's only for a few miles, so nothing to complain about too much. Mentally I'm pretty much prepared for Sunday's marathon, but physically I'm starting to feel every single ache and pain as the running winds down. It's kinda amazing how your body basically just ignores it all when you're piling on the miles.

Must be a trail runner - these are the descriptions of my two club run choices this Thursday -
Long run:
7.5 miles across rolling farmland and tracks to Backwell woods and back. It’s dairy country with contented cows and horses out in the fields, therefore cow poo, mud and stinging nettles. The last mile is unavoidably on country lanes, so hi-viz vests are essential.
Short run :
5.5 miles, also through Nailsea's wildest cow country.
Expect nettles and exceptional slurry, you lucky people.
Both of those full me with glee. Mud, yay!! Cow poo, yay!!!' Slurry, yay!!!!!!
Nettles - definitely not yay. Although....nettle stings take your mind off aching calf muscles.8 -

A liberal coating of DDT will handle the Nettles. Take the long run and watch your step That is what I would do.0 -
@WhatMeRunning - that's awesome about adding the HIITs and strength training. I don't seem to lose weight with the strength training but the muscle difference is amazing.
@HonuNui - your Oct goal.
@7lenny7 - love the pictures!
@skippygirlsmom - sigh - coaches.
I decided a couple days ago I would run 5.6 miles in honor of 56th birthday today. Had to get up earlier than my usual 4:15am to hit that number. I am sure all non-runners would think I am insane! "You got up early to run on your birthday?" So I don't mention it to anyone else. I've finally gotten better about not talking about running and biking all the time unless it is to a fellow nut like me. But you all understand how great I feel today having done that run!
10/1 - 33 miles cycling; 1 mile run
10/2 - rest day
10/3 - 5.6 miles - birthday run!

Today's notes: Nothing much with today's run. Got up to the sound of pouring rain, laced up my shoes and got it done. 9 miles at 9:20 easy pace... Saw some pretty cloud to cloud lightening, but other than that, pretty bland run.
Have a runderful day all!

It was a crisp -6 (21 for you fahrenheit enthusiasts ) this morning, loved it.
Trying to figure how far out from Whistler I should schedule my last PT appointment for my piriformis. I think Wednesday night (racing Saturday morning) is a good stretch? So much more precision needed on this one

Nice easy run today. Took a lot of breaks due to traffic lights and stopping to respond to texts. Normally I ignore texts during runs, but today it was necessary to respond. I mean how often do you need to coordinate with another mom to dress your 6 year olds up like a twins at school for spirit week?!6 -
I'm in for 75 miles this month!3

10/1 – 6 miles
10/2 – rest day
10/3 – 8 miles

@PastorVincent @JessicMcB @runningmischka and others thanks for your input. Coach called me about something else last night and I said hey how is the team supposed to run all these miles when you keep having practices and running 3.5 miles (Skip continued on for 4 miles). He said they can run twice a day. I said well you know I’m going to let Skip run double her normal weekly mileage in less days this week. We talked about it and he said “I’m trying to make sure kids actually run, I figure if I tell them 50 they will at least run 25”. I said and Skip and some of the others will try to run 55 to make you happy. Lazy athletes who don’t want to train will ALWAYS be lazy athletes who don’t want to train. He agreed so he’ll talk to them today at practice. I really love this Coach for more reasons than he annoys me. He’s young (28) and is really a basketball coach more than a running Coach.
What a beautiful morning for a run. I was so happy with my run today. Anyone who knows me knows I HATE the first 3 miles HATE them if I could start at mile 4 I’d be happy. My first mile was 12:44 and my last was 10:58 so I really happy to see I could keep a somewhat progressive run going for a good distance.
@stoshew71 are you looking to register for Oak Barrel? I see it’s coming up.
@whatmerunning welcome home.
Happy Birthday @DDmom0811 love the 5.6 miles
@7lenny7 I was my running shoes the same way you do, they get all naked of stuff and the delicate cycle
Good to see you @ohhim I must have missed the post about you missing Kona, I’m really sorry
@greenolivetree sorry to hear hubby had a rough time of it yesterday, just like running he needs to come back slow and steady with his health, bless him for getting out there to walk.
@garygse I can honestly say you are the most ready I’ve ever seen anyone for a race. You are definitely in the timeframe for everything to hurt. Sunday morning, you’ll be feeling great!
@HonuNui I love your October goal. Remember we are all here with you.
@girlinahat great descriptions ha ha
@zdyb23456 great reason to stop for texts!
Welcome to all the new kids and the returning kids.

@skippygirlsmom Good for you. Coaches need to learn how to motivate without setting ridiculous goals.

It was a beautiful, perfect rainy night to run last night, BUT the lightning conspired against me. Crazy boomers. Just went I thought it was done, I'd hear another clap of thunder. I debated going anyway but have enough to do at home I finally gave up, ate supper and got stuff done.
My daughter and I were planning on running a 5K when I see her in November but when we spoke yesterday I could tell she wasn't all in on the idea. For one, it's a 7:45am start and we tend to have some late nights with her friends and their dads when we get together. Also her running has been cut way back this semester due to homework, her job, and volleyball so she's not feeling like she'd do well (like I care). I said I just wanted to run with her and perhaps we could do our own thing. She loved that idea and is now excited about showing me her usual running route along the river at a more reasonable time for a college kid. We'll probably just got 3 miles or so but I plan on running a 10 mile trail on the way home later that day as a preview of a February 50K I hope to register for
Soccer game tonight then home to get 9 miles in.
Happy birthday, @ddmom0811 !!!! Have a great 5.6!9 -
You stay off line for 3 days and you miss 7 pages. No time to catch up!

I did just join the SPAM run. I'll participate regardless if I get the goodie bag or not. I know I'm late to the party but I try to stay offline on weekends to plan my social media. Ironic, right?6

Did my 2.8 miles before work this morning. Now I'm in the manager's office with ice on my ankle after talking to the company nurse because I rolled my ankle walking to the parking lot. There was a nice loud pop and now it's swelling up. Ugh. There goes my running goal, and my company also no longer vets the pizza party for so many days without accidents.0

@navygrrl OH NO!!!! Hope it heals quickly.
@ddmom0811 Happy Birthday!!!! I ran on my birthday too. People thought I was crazy. Maybe I am.
So I put out a very short race report on the Sept thread for the 5k on Saturday. Nothing major really. It was hot and being a noob, I am slow. But BEER. LOL. Cold, fresh awesome Rahr&Sons Octoberfest beer.
I met last months goal with 32.31/30. I am going to make this month 35. I have SPAM on the 14th after a craft fair that I am doing and I have another 5k on the 21st. This one is much more family oriented so I am excited to have my boys come out and join.
2017 Races Scheduled
9/30 - Rahr & Sons Octoberfest 5k (goal to just run all the way through) - Fort Worth - 43:59

Sorry to hear about the ankle injury @MobyCarp. I would say your plan sounds good, but this is far from your first rodeo and you know what to do.
Happy belated birthday @girlinahat. I don't think you can go wrong with either trail option.
Happy on-time birthday @ddmom0811.
Glad to hear your knee is OK @katharmonic.
Lightning does seem to ruin the best rainy runs @7lenny7.
Ouch! Hope the ankle injury is not too severe @navygrrl.
I think beer after a run is pretty amazing @seanevan10. I love it when events offer it after the race.
Your goals and schedule are pretty awesome @MNLittleFinn!

@WhatMeRunning I missed seeing you around here every day! My schedule has been pretty busy this year. This month is my crazy month, then it's a month "off" getting back into training starting the middle of November at the latest.1

I tried out some different running shoes today.
Set out for a quick single mile, like yesterday. It felt easier today than yesterday, and my form felt better. Not sure how much of that is the footwear or simply due to the back getting rest overnight.
I stopped once towards the top of the hill, and probably could have gone on but I stopped to walk for a short stretch. I was near my maxHR. I ran the whole way back comfortably, and has no issues with my lower back today.
The footwear held out fine. I ran on the sidewalks and only had to avoid an occasional group of acorns and walnuts.
10/2 - 1 mile
10/3 - 1 mile
2 of 20 total miles complete
Upcoming events:
AIM at Melanoma 5k 10/146 -
@WhatMeRunning LOL!!! No holes in the socks after running in them? I'm supprised no old ladies stopped to tell you you'd ruin them, or that no one make a snarky remark about your "missing" shoes.2
-
@Elise4270 - No holes! I gave them a thorough inspection. They looked a little dirty was all. I passed a guy mowing his lawn, expecting a question or comment. All he said was, "Nice day for a run"!2
