Rachael I feel the same as I've done this before and this time I know it's for life

Rachael, I too reckon a lifetime of watching how much I eat awaits me, which certainly can be daunting. But then I think, Hallelujah!! - I at last know exactly what I need to do to maintain my weight. I can certainly live with that, given the pay-off. And who knows, after a few years of maintenance, it will all become automatic and therefore more effortless!

Oops, I meant to say "maybe" it would become automatic.

As mentioned in the Oct thread, despite maintaining at 158 for the past 10 months or so, my weight is increasing and has been trending towards 160-161 at the upper end of my desired weight range on 1900 cals/day for the past month.

Not sure what's going on but I don't like it.

I joked that I needed to change the batteries in my scale and I actually did that w/no change in the trend. So, I'm obviously eating too much and/or not exercising enough.

So, I've decided to go back into weight loss mode and am dropping my cals to 1650 cal/day for a drop of 1750 cals/wk w/a goal of losing 1/2# per week which should take me back to158 w/in 4-5 wks.

Will report on whether this is successful or not later in this and/or next month's thread.

@dingylingo Before I ever started on this journey I made a very conscious decision that I would need to change the way I ate for the rest of my life. It's not easy some days, even after a year in maintenance, but it's far preferable to getting fat again IMO. The results are worth it!

Struggles of the week: Trying not to feel like I'm still "dieting" even though I know that I have to watch everything I eat still, probably for the rest of my life, because I gain weight so fast. It's a very daunting feeling.

    Anyone else feel the same?

Yes, Rachael! It is difficult for me to accept -- and a little overwhelming -- that I will have to continue to make weight management a focus for the rest of my life. At this time, my former unhealthy eating habits are emerging again, and I have to try to keep finding ways to stay motivated and disciplined. I have to continually remind myself why I decided to develop better eating habits to begin with and why I decided to lose weight. I expect that once I reestablish my healthier routines again, there will be more challenges like this in the future. I think I can live with that knowledge as long as I believe I can overcome these challenges. Also, I have to remember that maintenance is worth the work: I don't ever want to go back to my old size or my old eating habits. My current thinking is: I won't always be able to keep maintenance on the "front burner" of my life, so-to-speak, but I can at least keep it on the stovetop! I just think there will be times when maintenance will require more of my energy and attention than other times.

I did get my 5 miles of walking in each day despite the cold. I added climbing stairs to get prepared for when it gets nasty weather outside and I can't walk.

Success/struggles of the week: good week for me, got some nice rides in, eating well, enjoying my Halloween candy, but not going crazy with snacks. Some days i find that i just can't get enough food, even ( and mostly ) after dinner. But i chalk it off to my body telling me that it needs more and i allow itto be. I'm not counting calories, so i have to rely on clues like that to judge and estimate my food and snack intake. My main way of tracking progress is scale, my daily weight is the easiest way to know where i am. My weight have been trending down for a bit, I'm actually happy about it, since i think i can go a little lower in body fat, especially my lower body, i wouldn't mind.

Success/struggles of the week: I feel really good about my weight this morning. I was actually expecting it to be up a bit. We went to visit our son at college this weekend so there was lots of eating out and I went over my calories quite a bit. I was surprised that my actual weight was down a little from Friday but my trend is the same as last week so that is good. I find it odd that even though my problem in maintenance has been continuing to lose weight, the fear of regaining the weight has not gone away. It probably never will.

Still in bloat mode!! Oh well, I know what it is. In Women on Weights we did DB lifts. I was familiar with most of these but did learn a few new things. I got in a day of swimming for the first time in a few weeks, in addition to my 3 weight workouts. Steps have been bad lately with the change in weather and the earlier darkness due to the time change. BLEH!

My new FitBit ONE arrived today, so it's charging now. Looking forward to getting credit for my floors again. I'll put the ZIP in storage for the next time one of our ONEs bites the dust.

Challenges of the week: Still using food as a relaxation/reward system in the evenings. I have yet to find some way to shake off the day when I get home. (Exercise doesn't really help, as I am usually tense over trying to get my steps and workout in. It’s been a source of stress instead of a stress reliever.)

Trying to make myself go out hiking, but am fussy about the cold! LOL

@CoachJen71 What if you take off your fitness tracker for a few days? Yes, I would probably want to hurt someone if I did, but. Trust yourself to eat/exercise in a way that works for you. It is, obviously, easier said than done. I will if you will. Let me know...
What used to be your stress reliever (besides food)? Can you read a book? Bake? (I have lots of recipes that are low calorie and am willing to share) Draw? Write? Sew?

October was a bad month in that my weight whooshed up and stayed up after I hurt my back September 30. It’s started going down again now my back’s better.

I’m a bit concerned my average weight has risen 3 kg since January, despite logging everything I eat and keeping to my calorie limit.

Not sure whether that’s muscle or not. I exercise every day, averaging 17,000 steps a day including lots of running, and swimming and yoga.

Success/struggles of the week: I did great with eating out as I lost again. Thanksgiving and then Saturday is my sisters homemade Italian dinner which she does every year after Turkey Day. This is my biggest weakness Italian food as I love pasta. Gonna try to maintain and work out extra to prepare for these days.

Hubby cleaned off the treadmill for me so I can walk on that if need be as the weather is turning cold and windy.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I'm so thankful a friend told me about this site as it's been a HUGE help.
