Happy Saturday Morning to All!
3 -
Thank you for letting me join your group. I feel as if I know you all personally, what a lovely lot of ladies you all are! Briefly, I was divorced for the second time in April and now live alone in a comfortable rented apartment. I have 3 lovely daughters from my first marriage. 3 granddaughters and 4 grandsons. All live very close to me. My dear old Dad is 91 and now lives in a care home. He has Parkinson's and dementia but he still knows us all, thankfully.
I have a few hobbies, crochet, knitting and painting with watercolours. Am not very good at the painting tho!10 -
Hi I'm back to logging my food again.
It took me a while to find the group, couldn't quite remember the name, but I found you. I recognise a few names, but lots of new ones too.
I'm going to take early retirement in March/April next year so hopefully will have more time to keep in touch with everyone. In the meantime I hope you don't mind if I lurk and post every now and then.
Happy New Year and I hope that 2018 is a good year for all of us.

Good Saturday everyone. I can’t believe the weather differences across this country. Just stopping to say hi.

Karen, welcome to our friendly community. I have been knitting since I was a child and have taken it up more seriously since I retired. Since I made the decision to be more active, I thought I wouldn't knit as much and then I found out that I could knit and ride my recumbent exercise bike at the same time so now I knit, ride the bike, and watch TV with my husband all at the same time.

Barbie: that's what I'd call multi tasking! Or, multi-enjoyment! Well done! I just love it that all in this group seem so wise to the ways of the world. I tend to look at things in a different way since I've been following your group. Am I really bothered if so and so doesn't speak to me? Will my life be better if I buy such and such?? You all inspire me.
Love from Karen UK x7 -
Viv - Welcome back. I remember you very well and have occasionally wondered how you are getting on.

Michele, a stability bar? Could you post pic?
Michele and pip, Michelle's right, uploaded the video to YouTube first, then pasted the link it provided. THINK the tall thing was the North Pole, but maybe not since there's a magician nearby. Will try to stop by the park before they take it down and get a better pic.
pip but your piece of cake 1/2 mi is followed by a full work day, then another 1/2 mi, no? No wonder you could run a marathon!
Rye sleep superpower, awesome!
Becca, Procraftinating? Now THAT's a craft I could do!
Janetr not in your neck of the woods, but Azalea Park in Brookings OR. I too love to drive past people's light displays but this was a walk through, all put up by volunteers, costs sponsored by local biz, admission a whopping $2, kids free.
Evvie, Margaret so creative and skilled!
7 pages behind, but practicing for a new habit, stop and DO something after every page.
Hugs to all,Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.

Welcome KarenW, Viv and Donna and any other lurkers who are quietly a part of this online community.
It is the last day of 2017 here. I am excited about this new year coming. I do love a fresh start and a chance to choose different delights out of life's grab bag. Things are changing so much for us with today being our last day of owning a business that we have been involved in for the past 28 years. It is a risk to give up security and step into the unknown but it is also a chance at being part of something BIG. We are just waiting right now for approval on our new factory and export business for Manuka Honey. My favourite part of all this is the chance to learn new things and the synergy of working together to create something new. Another new thing I am doing this year is I have joined the Tramping Club and I plan to go on group hikes and camping trips this coming year with the view towards saving up for a ticket to walk the Camino Santiago in Spain.
Sharon, one more thing I want to say to you. I gathered you feel "ashamed" of yourself for invading Larry's privacy and reading his texts. That reveals to me that you have got too much of a conscience that takes the blame for everything. How I see it is 1. When you are married, you have a right to see each other's phones, know each others passwords. There should be no secrets! 2. God will reveal things that you need to know. He has revealed information on Larry's phone to you. Now you can make decisions based upon that new knowledge. My prayers are with you for strength and wisdom.Wendy

Karen - just jump right in, the water's fine! Losing 15 pounds is nothing to sneeze at. You kept it off, that's a good thing
Viv - welcome back, you were missed
Rita - thanks for popping in. Love hearing from you

Well, made my apple pie. Now we'll see how it turns out. I increased the sugar in the pie, but I also increased the corn starch so we shall see how it turns out. Good, I hope.

Heather: I am glad you're happy with Amazon. We are not. They've decided to take over their own delivery services and haven't brought a package to our door since. We've found them at several different neighbor's houses and have contacted Amazon three times about the matter. We are getting very frustrated with them. :grumble:  :grumble: On a more personal note, I'm glad you heard from your cancer friend. :flowerforyou:
Peach: I have never really understood the weight watcher system. I know I can eat all the celery I want because it takes more calories to digest than it contains. Other than that, I need to check the food so I can have the right balance of calories in, calories out.
Wendy: Thanks for the link to Live Young Forever. I have fond memories of my mom exercising with Jack LaLanne's TV show in the 1950's. :flowerforyou:
Sharon in Lethbridge: I agree with you about kale & raw cabbage. While I occasionally have a bit of coleslaw in the summer time, it doesn't ever sit well with me. DH likes kale, but I don't. I do like brussels sprouts and broccoli, but they are it for me in the whole cabbage family. Everyone is different. On a more serious topic, I have no advice regarding your relationship with DH. I hope you will find somebody to help you through this tough patch.
Patceoh: I've been spending almost no time on facebook lately. It has devolved into quite a mess as near as I can tell. It was a good asset fro a long time, but not so much anymore. :grumble:
Lin: Thanks for the advice regarding our dog. He is still doing okay and has actually improved dramatically. The injury was a ruptured disc. We've been doing well at helping him with meds and don't have surgery in mind. He is going up and down stairs, and moving with confidence. We take him up & down the stairs on a leash so he doesn't go too fast, and we're still using a baby gate to keep him downstairs during the day.
Barbie: I look forward to your happiness commandments.
Heathe: I am the one at our house who is inclined to have the TV on for hours at a time, & it would drive DH nuts to put up with it. We have headphones that I wear while watching things he doesn't particularly like. It is a win-win situation.I am glad to know that your cancer friend called you. That must relieve a lot of worry. Yay!
Michele: I also have an apple corer/slicer. It is a very handy tool! :flowerforyou:
Donna & Karen UK: Welcome! Karen, we already have other Karens, so I'll include your location to keep myself from getting mixed up.
Margaret: I love this, and agree. "For me my goal is when I encounter someone who is being negative is to not let them throw me off balance. I have made this comment before. Some people gain a false sense of power when they know they get you upset. As I say to students do not let them have your power. The interesting thing about people like this either they will go away on their own because they know they cannot get to you or they want you in their lives because they do find it refreshing to find someone who can stand up to them. I call it a false sense because they are not gaining power from their own inner work, but by manipulating others."
Viv in York UK: It is great to see you post again. Welcome back!!!
Our dog is doing better. He had a sipped disc and also has acid reflux/diahrea from some of the meds. He's being tapered off of the slipped disc medicine, but I think he'll have to have the acid reflux meds long term. He's a good old dog, and we want him to be comfortable and happy as long as possible.

I'm about to watch "Goodbye Mr Chips" on tv. It's a made for tv British remake of the original, starring Martin Clunes(Doc Martin). I love old films and my list of favourite actors is endless. My friends used to laugh in the old days when I was late joining them at the disco because I was watching a Tony Curtis/Rock Hudson /Gregory Peck film on TV!! Happy days!!4

Has anyone heard from Mary or Re/Bre?1

Sharon, if Larry had nothing to hide, he wouldn't be upset about you looking at his cell phone. And you have nothing to feel ashamed about, he's the one who appears to be cheating so he's the one who should be ashamed! You are not going to be able to change him, he would have to want to change and that doesn't seem likely to happen. I'm sure it's a scary thing, thinking of divorce and living alone, but you need to be the most important person in your life right now. Take the steps you need to in order to take care of YOU! And even though none of us is physically there for you, you know we are all with you in spirit!
Katla, happy to hear that your dog is getting better!
Heather, happy that you heard from your friend, hope that you can get a number of someone who is in her life that you could call.
Allie, your brother is not being fair at all! Is his head up his @$$, does he not see how much you are doing for your dad? Good grief! I wish I were there to give you a big hug, this will have to do! {{{HUG}}}
As for t.v., radio and other noisemakers in the house... Hubby is the one who gets up in the morning and turns on the t.v., I prefer to read the paper in the morning and it's easier to do without the noise of the t.v. or whatever, but after 36 years of this, I'm used to it and it doesn't bother me. It helps that I'm usually up for a few hours before he gets up, so I can read the paper and putter in quiet. I'm usually at the gym when he gets up and by the time that I get home, I'm ready for some noise in my day! He also turns it on when he gets up and it stays on til he goes to bed, unless we go out somewhere. No point in leaving it on for the cat, she's deaf! lol She's an old thing who probably won't be with us much longer, I will miss her. Mind you, I didn't think she would survive last winter, so maybe I shouldn't bury her just yet.....
Christmas is still up at our place, will probably take it down NY day. I was going to leave it up for another week, but I'm not sure I'll be able to stand it for that much longer! I do like it, but I kind of want my regular house back.
I do want to know more about the tradition that someone's step mom had about placing a coin outside on the windowsill. Does the denomination count? How long does one leave the coin there? Should it be on a particular windowsill? Or one facing a certain direction?
The pork thing sounds interesting, my mom would make a ham for NY day, but I don't recall anything being said about pigs moving forward while foraging. Mom would make ethnic (Russian) food quite often for NY day as well. I did like that! I don't make too much of it, hubby doesn't like most of it and I have found that I'm not quite as fond of it as I used to be. And a lot of it is kind of high in calories and fat, and I really don't need extra calories or fat! I do, however, make borsch on a regular (sort of! lol) basis, and hubby does like that. It contains butter and whipping cream, but the rest is all veggies, so it's really a fairly healthy soup. Wouldn't work for the cabbage haters out there, but I'm not one of those. Not a fan of kale tho, or a lot of salad stuff that seems to be in the salad mixes that one finds in the stores. Don't like bitter tasting food, and there always seems to be something in there like that.
Well, that's a long enough post for now! I know I've missed commenting on lots of peoples activities, the letter to Santa about the pets was adorable, loved that Joaquin gave a big sloppy kiss to his gramma, so many happy moments! And as I'm typing this, more people are posting! I'll never get caught up! lol Hope everyone has a great day!

Barbie's Happiness Commandments
Be Barbie
Lighten up
Do it now
Dance more
Choose strategy over willpower
Cultivate an attitude of gratitude
Come from a place of love
Stay in the moment
Act the way you want to feel
Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good
Don't expect praise or recognition
It is what it is
Don't take things personally
Treat yourself like a toddler
What's fun for other people may not be fun for you, and vice versa
You can choose what you do, but you can't choose what you like
Be kind, no exceptions
Ask always, how could my life be better with less?

Margaret - I truly appreciated your reflective post this morning - Rumi is one of my favorite authors. Thank you for posting it!
Karen in S Wales - I Love Martin Clunes - hope they play the Goodbye Mr. Chips remake over here. Will put it on my list - thank you!! And welcome!!
Heather - so glad you heard from your cancer friend. Would you mind sharing her first name some time so I can kind of visualize her better? If you'd prefer not to, no problem. I know you posted the friend group photo a while back.
Wendy, I am thrilled about your new Manuka Honey venture. I know it will be a success!! Hope you can sell it over here in the States. I have been using real maple syrup when I need a sweetener for baking but like a little honey with AC Vinegar. I have a couple jars of local honey on the shelf I'll dip into more when the syrup runs out.
Sharon - there is lots of good advice and food for thought for you here! I think once the holidays are over and things settle down in your life a bit, your decisions will become clearer. I always tend to push that stuff down if I have more pressing issues to deal with, but it doesn't want to stay down forever. I wish you peace. You deserve it.
Kelly - glad you made it to Texas and are having a blast with Joaquin!! Hope you can meet up with some of the fabulous MFP gals.
Barbie - Thank you for posting your happiness commandments! I need to work on my own
I've been working on my 2017 review and 2018 guidelines, will post them tomorrow.
My next soup will be French lentil - I found a package of them in the freezer and there are lots of recipes for soup. I'll add a little Kale especially for Sharon and Katla, lol. Don't worry, it will be well-hidden!
I got an email from my Vegan/Celiac friend Marie, she wants me to come over and talk vegan cooking with her in the next few weeks. I can't wait! DH and I went to their home last year for a supper of fabulous soup and a wonderfully creamy chocolate soufflé. Her DH, John, was a real meat and potatoes guy and she has converted him - not by nagging or preaching him, but by making the tastiest food imaginable.
I'm going to see if I can get my DH to have at least 2 spoons of lentil soup, lol.
Oh, I just placed a seed order with Baker Creek - little lettuces, kale, and lots of different flowers - marigolds, bachelor buttons. I will try to force some of the veggies on heat mats.
Have a great Saturday!
Lanette
