I am thinking about a lifestyle change to a keto diet? I am trying to aquire first hand info if anyone has any advise? I recently decided to get back on track with a healthy lifestyle to try and lift my mood, health, and energy. I've heard and read alot of info about keto, but it's hard to gauge what is legit info. Obviously I am aware what works for one may not work for another, as it is not a one size fits all deal, but any info or advise would be awesome! Thank you!

I just read your other post and honestly you need to not do this to yourself, at least not right now. You've been through enough lately. Go easy on yourself. Start simple. Begin tracking everything you eat. Start learning how to weigh and measure your foods to get really good calorie estimates. This alone will take time to get the hang of.

Don't even start by cutting calories. Eat as you normally do for a couple of weeks without guilt or judgement.

After a couple of weeks look at your diary and find easy places to start cutting back. Maybe it's that after dinner snack, a high calorie coffee drink, pastry at work, etc. Pick something simple to change even though it may be tough to cut. For example, if it's a coffee drink, transition to something lower calorie that still satisfies your caffeine craving.

Over time you can get into a decent calorie deficit that gives you about 1 lb/wk. Exercise when and how you enjoy but don't obsess about it. Make an effort to be generally more active daily. Find things that you enjoy that you don't think of as work.

You will see progress over time that will be much less stressful and far more rewarding. Not to mention easier on your mind and your body. Take diet breaks and eat at maintenance from time to time. This is never time wasted and will pay off in spades in the long run as it will give you lots of practice at maintaining your new weight. I swear this is the most underrated and under utilized "trick" in your weight loss arsenal. Use it.

I really believe it's all about baby steps for you. All the best.

An easy introduction to keto is the Atkin diet, phase 1 (although I think it eliminates dairy): lots of meat, seafood, eggs, nuts, olives, veggies, coconuts, full fat dairy (cheese) and a bit of fruit (berries). Skip food made from flour or added sugars and your carbs will often drop close to keto levels if you are not eating a lot of fruit.

Try the Low Carber Daily and Keto MFP groups. They have active posts on lots of keto info.

Keto stabilizes my mood and energy very well. It helps moderate my appetite too. For me it works very well.
