@polskagirl01 Go you! Congratulations on your trophy, medal, and PR. I've been hiking on Madeira a couple of times. It's a beautiful place to visit, and your picture has made me want to go back there.

Yes, it seems like flights from western Europe are very affordable, at least now during the "off-season". Hoping the rain quits so we can get out more before it's time to go home.

@polskagirl01 - I love your photo! It tells the real story - you were in pain but you kept going! How cool that you got to be on the podium.

@HonuNui Your poor hand! I love the design of the medal and logo.

Re: living / running in a dangerous neighborhood - the thing is, when this place went Section 8 the property value dropped steeply, so now we can't really afford to sell it. Don't really want to delve into the politics of our changing neighborhood, so I'll just say that no place around here is really safe - my riding teacher who was like a second mom to me was carjacked and murdered in a "good" neighborhood near the park we drive to. Wherever you live there are different hazards - some people run with cougars, which don't live here.

I looked at the Strava heat map and can easily see all the routes we run at the park. The area near our house is gray except that there are a lot of people who "run" down the main street leading past our block of houses, which is a terrible place to run, and I have never seen a runner there. I'm almost certain it represents carless people walking to work at the corner shopping/restaurant area, and carrying groceries back home. It's interesting as I wouldn't have expected most of the people I see walking here to be on Strava.

    Official Marathon PR: 4:11:28

Next Races (more as I find them):

03/17/18 - Shamrock Shuffle Half Marathon
    04/07/18 - Achilles 9.3 Challange

2020 - Disney World Dopey! (if can raise funds)

Much slower than I wanted, and I was overdressed but knocked out 10 miles. :)

Thing is the weather said the temps were headed to 18 and snow was coming. So, while it was like 43 or 44 when I left, I dressed a bit warmer thinking the temps would fall fast since It was almost sunset when I left. The did not. It was still over 40 when I came in all overheated and stuff.

    Ah well.

Caught the flu this weekend, so I have been resting, no running. Horrible month too. I will post Feb's challenge in the next couple of days.

Yuck! Sorry to hear that! Rest up, drink fluids and eat lots of chicken noodle soup!

6.68 km River Bank run. -13C Wind out of the North at 10km/h.
    ~ 16km/h windchill when running in-bound.
Stopped and chatted with a fellow runner for a while and did not pause my watch.
We both agree it has been a rough winter for us, dark overcast cold weather, snow, rain = sheets of ice. That shows in the 9 day breaks = 18 days of not running.
I am about 1/2 to 1/3 of my normal average monthly run distance. Heck I don't even care about the 6.68 number. The normal me would keep going to get to 7 km.

    01/01 0.0 km – 0.0km –140.0 km – YTD 0 km
    01/02 9.37 km –9.37km –130.63 km

Didn't understand a word they were saying, and the posted list was only the top 10 finishers, so I was sticking around just in case - had no idea how the age group looked until I heard my name. They had to tell me which one box to stand on!

@RunsOnEspresso , get well soon! there will be other races :)

@iporterm33 , kudos for going over your goal!

@Link2Life , those firsst long runs feel amazing, don't they? afterwards you could focus on distance (do a 5 to 10K program) or speed (sub-30 5K, for example)

@fitoverfortymom , you're my hero, I can't get out of bed at 6:30 to have a quiet morning while everyone is still sleeping, let alone run at 4am. when do you go to bed?

@HonuNui , ouch about your hand, but what an awesome medal!

@KatieJane83 , good thing about monthly challenges, next one is never too far away. :)

@Stoshew71 , get well soon! Flu's definitely no fun...

@polskagirl01 , what an amazing location to run! congrats for being on podium!!

@rheddmobile , I've listened to a podcast about changing US neighborhoods (I'm in Europe), can only imagine how that sucks when you suddenly find yourself in a totally different place and dynamic...

    @juliet3455 , -13°C??? that's very cold...
