Laxative and enema abuse will seriously damage your ability to go naturally.
No one NEEDS an enema to cleanse the colon and telling people they need that and laxatives is dangerous advice.
No that is not healthy at all you have been lied 2. Think of your colon as a factory when you eat more food comes in therefore more food should come out the only exception would be people on very low calorie diets. And even then they should go every 2 days
I only have a BM about twice a week. I never feel pain and it's never uncomfortable once I do go. I had a colonoscopy about 2 months ago and apparently everything is good2go soooo...

Ha - I never realized how abnormal I am. I go 3 or 4 times a day. Overachiever right here.26

Totally agree about the importance of gut health. I used to have IBS pretty bad when i was younger, and then constipation later in my 30's.
I fixed it by simply eating better.
As a cyclist, it is so much nicer to be able to bring my knees to my chest without discomfort. I can take a much more aggressive position on the bike now. I see so many people with big ol' guts, even skinny people; too much junk in the trunk. I can suck my gut in like i could when i was a kid.
Thanks for your comment and constipation definitely efacts flexibility and stuff like that. I remember when I was in middleschool I could suck my tummy in barely at all... and I felt so stiff in my midsection I thought I had a tumor or something back then2 -

Do you eat 3 meals a day? How do you think it's good for all that food to be backed up into your colon it's not good and it effects how you absorb vitamins and nutrients. You don't have to listen to me im just sincerely telling you from my own experiences also some doctors have very low standards on colon health they will tell you something is normal just because it is common. Normal doesn't equal healthy and this problem can be easily fixed so don't worry.34 -

stuff only gets backed up if it cant be relieved.and as long as you dont have a health issue such as digestive issues or something else to where you cant absorb vitamins correctly then no its not unhealthy. your experience and what you may have been told is your experience. just because it happened that way and effected you doesnt mean it will everyone else. doesnt matter how many meals a day a person eats either. your body takes time to digest food and if you are digesting it too quickly or not at all then its going to come out that much faster and will lead to digestive issues. ask those who eats certain things and it goes right through them. are you saying that its healthy?3 -

Lady. Why do you think you know everything? LOL17 -
If I were constantlynconstipated I think I would see a doctor to figure out why instead of just starting to do frequent enemas or cleanses.18
-
Gloriana - colon cleanses or hydrotherapy - nice fancy words for water enemas - are absolutely not neccesary for anyone.
and it is totally normal for some people to go less than every 2nd day - like just about everything in life there is a range of normal and twice weekly is within the range and is normal for them
3 x a day is normal for others
For these people, there is no problem to fix and there is no need to worry.
If you have issues with chronic constipation ,and increasing your water and fibre intake do not help, see a Doctor and get proper medical advice.
Not silly quack suggestions.15 -

People please calm down I am not arguing with you all I am just giving you information and it definitely concerns me how some of you think it is healthy to not use the bathroom daily . Just think of your body as the complex machine it is and ask yourself if you think it is okay to hold waste for a long time . The modern American diet has ruined a lot of people's perception on what is normal and healthy and colon cleansing is a good thing laxatives are not good in my opinion. I will be back later right now I have business to tend to if you have questions feel free to message me31

We'll be waiting for links to the evidence-based research showing the benefits of colon cleansing. Because there aren't any. It's all woo BS and nobody should be doing it.24 -

Who is not calm??
Not sure why you would want people to message you rather than having discussion on open forum (although I can hazard a cynical guess)
Nobody is suggesting regular laxatives are good - (although they have their place in occasional sensible use in some situations)
Your definite concern is definitely misplaced and unwarranted - it is absolutely within healthy normal range for some people to not go every day
and, No you are not giving information - you are giving misinformation.

it may only take a few hrs to digest but for it to become waste and to be passed it can take longer-https://www.mayoclinic.org/digestive-system/expert-answers/faq-20058340 and in the subjects they tested it was more than 24 hrs total. some were 50 hrs. so I think you kinda have things a little mixed up

I'm not sure it would be entirely healthy to poop out the dinner you had on Monday, the following Wednesday-Thursday
To some people going every 2-4 days is normal... For me, this would be totally abnormal, and I would be going to the doctors office to find out what the problem is.
I would think people who don't go regularly, like daily, would be full of *kitten*, literally...13 -

GlorianasTears wrote: »robinsnest02 wrote: »Hi there! I work in digestive health and can tell you there is some good information as well as questionable information in this post. She doesn't seem to be advocating laxatives (TG), which are very deterimental to digestive health. They weaken peristalic contractions that help move ingested food through the digestive tract and can contain cancer causing chemicals. I do advocate enemas for those that experience life long constipation, just in moderation. A good therapy for most people is open system colon hydrotherapy that helps clear the layers of mucosal plaque that lines the large intestine. This therapy also retrains and strengthens the peristalic muscles to help with future bowel function. Also a great therapy for people with candida or other intestinal invaders.Gut health is important, but not everyone goes once a day. People need to find their "normal." If things start deviating from that "normal" then there is room for concern.
Generally a diet high in fiber and water is all someone should need to maintain a healthy gut (for people without medical conditions). If you have problems and don't want to go the laxative route, try prunes and/or prune juice. It worked to get things going for me after things "stalled" after having surgery (anesthesia and pain meds slow things down to a crawl).
I'm not promoting laxatives at all I just think that colon cleansing is important and no I don't think people should do ithe everyday or even do it themselves. I do believe that col on hydrotherapy is VERY beneficial but people always act scary when any type of colon cleansing is mentioned which is sad cause it really can benefit them A LOT instead of having a doctor put them on harmful laxatives all the time .
Good grief! I have severe chronic constipation which can result in 3 or 4 days (or more) of not going. My doctor never suggests laxatives unless I'm taking meds that would make the problem worse. My blood work is excellent and I have a colonoscopy at least every 5 years, sometimes more often, and every one has been completely normal. This is just ridiculous!11 -
I just did a quick Google search and it confirmed what I thought:
"So how can we keep our intestines teeming with good bacteria? Let’s start with the things you shouldn’t do. 'Never, ever do a colon cleanse unless it is prep for a colonoscopy,' Dr. Toker says. 'When you do a colon cleanse, you kill all the good bacteria that keeps you from getting sick.'"
You need good gut bacteria to keep your digestive health in check. A colon cleanse wipes out all the good bacteria. I'll stick to my healthy diet, fiber rich foods and prunes/juice if I ever have an issue (which luckily I don't).

Do you not realize how large the colon is?
If someone only poops every other day, the extra six inch turd they didn’t excrete yesterday isn’t going to hurt anything.8 -
