I do advocate enemas for those that experience life long constipation, just in moderation. A good therapy for most people is open system colon hydrotherapy that helps clear the layers of mucosal plaque that lines the large intestine. This therapy also retrains and strengthens the peristalic muscles to help with future bowel function. Also a great therapy for people with candida or other intestinal invaders.Gut health is important, but not everyone goes once a day. People need to find their "normal." If things start deviating from that "normal" then there is room for concern.
Generally a diet high in fiber and water is all someone should need to maintain a healthy gut (for people without medical conditions). If you have problems and don't want to go the laxative route, try prunes and/or prune juice. It worked to get things going for me after things "stalled" after having surgery (anesthesia and pain meds slow things down to a crawl).
I'm not promoting laxatives at all I just think that colon cleansing is important and no I don't think people should do ithe everyday or even do it themselves. I do believe that col on hydrotherapy is VERY beneficial but people always act scary when any type of colon cleansing is mentioned which is sad cause it really can benefit them A LOT instead of having a doctor put them on harmful laxatives all the time .28 -

Some can go 3 days or more without anyone being concerned.
Laxative and enema abuse will seriously damage your ability to go naturally.
No one NEEDS an enema to cleanse the colon and telling people they need that and laxatives is dangerous advice.
No that is not healthy at all you have been lied 2. Think of your colon as a factory when you eat more food comes in therefore more food should come out the only exception would be people on very low calorie diets. And even then they should go every 2 days34 -

Yes some people are more prone to constipation but *kitten* of laxatives and enemas is not the answer.
Digestive health is key to absorbing your vitamins and minerals if you are not going regularly your digestive health is suffering. It's very serious it leads to lots of disease being constipated I don't know why you people are bothered by colon cleansing24 -

Because doctors who actually look inside people's colons say it is unnecessary and can in fact be harmful. And I have never met a doctor or nurse who pushed laxatives, I've actually known several people whose doctor scolded them for using laxatives. Digestive health is of course important. Colon cleanses don't help.22 -

No, I have never gone daily (or even every other day) in my entire life and that's absolutely normal for me. My colon is in great shape and working fine per my gastroenterologist.12 -

We are bothered by colon cleansing because it is completely unnecessary. Please provide peer reviewed sources for any of your nonsense.18 -

what is healthy for one may not be for another. everyone is different. as a kid I was lucky if I went twice a week. I wasnt constipated and got plenty of fiber, water and exercise. now its more often because I upped my fiber due to a health issue. not to mention that food takes time to digest and nutrients are pulled from the food you eat. so I dont think making it come out faster is a good thing.7 -
Totally agree about the importance of gut health. I used to have IBS pretty bad when i was younger, and then constipation later in my 30's.
I fixed it by simply eating better.
As a cyclist, it is so much nicer to be able to bring my knees to my chest without discomfort. I can take a much more aggressive position on the bike now. I see so many people with big ol' guts, even skinny people; too much junk in the trunk. I can suck my gut in like i could when i was a kid.5 -

I only have a BM about twice a week. I never feel pain and it's never uncomfortable once I do go. I had a colonoscopy about 2 months ago and apparently everything is good2go soooo...
ETA: by a GASTROENTEROLOGIST by the way lol11 -
Ha - I never realized how abnormal I am. I go 3 or 4 times a day. Overachiever right here.26

Thanks for your comment and constipation definitely efacts flexibility and stuff like that. I remember when I was in middleschool I could suck my tummy in barely at all... and I felt so stiff in my midsection I thought I had a tumor or something back then2 -

Do you eat 3 meals a day? How do you think it's good for all that food to be backed up into your colon it's not good and it effects how you absorb vitamins and nutrients. You don't have to listen to me im just sincerely telling you from my own experiences also some doctors have very low standards on colon health they will tell you something is normal just because it is common. Normal doesn't equal healthy and this problem can be easily fixed so don't worry.34 -

forcing it out before its ready IS stopping you from absorbing all the nutrients you keep arguing for22 -

stuff only gets backed up if it cant be relieved.and as long as you dont have a health issue such as digestive issues or something else to where you cant absorb vitamins correctly then no its not unhealthy. your experience and what you may have been told is your experience. just because it happened that way and effected you doesnt mean it will everyone else. doesnt matter how many meals a day a person eats either. your body takes time to digest food and if you are digesting it too quickly or not at all then its going to come out that much faster and will lead to digestive issues. ask those who eats certain things and it goes right through them. are you saying that its healthy?3 -

Lady. Why do you think you know everything? LOL17 -
If I were constantlynconstipated I think I would see a doctor to figure out why instead of just starting to do frequent enemas or cleanses.18
