I've been counting calories an trying my best to get healthy for almost a month now. I cut out sugar an white foods. I went brown an cut way down on carbs which are my weakness. I have not been hungry that is until last night. I went out with friends an ate 2 small pics of vege pizza with lite cheese. An hour after I ate I was starving. It was the bread crust it triggered my hunger. I never connected that until last nite. Eat clean, avoid sugar an eat luw carbs an u got this........

Yup. That's why I leave room after my frequent pizza dinner to have ice cream.24

Haha I get what you are saying. Sometimes I give in and have half a bagel for breakfast. It ALWAYS ends up being a mistake because 40 minutes after I eat I’m starving and craving everything! So even if something isn’t out of my calorie range I try to avoid foods that trigger me. Lol3

Yes. I'm so happy I figured that out. Dahhhhhh1

Perhaps it was the "lite" cheese. Perhaps it was the ridiculously small amount of food. How do you know it was the crust?
I don't eat clean, avoid sugar or eat low carb and I do just fine!31 -

Yet many people on MFP (myself included) did none of those things and have had enormous success.28 -

I think OP also left out the possibility that over-restricting foods s/he enjoys, and/or perhaps over-restricting calories, creates a problem.
OP, if you're willing to "cut out sugar an white foods" and "go brown" forever, you've just had a useful insight. If you're not willing to eliminate those foods permanently, you might want to have a bit of a rethink.
Either way, wising you success and happiness!17 -
I know what you mean, but for me, it's sugar. Like I have sugar in my coffee every day the same amount always, but sometimes I'll have a cookie then I go into a sugar rush, and even when I know I'm not hungry I still want to eat more sweets, and that can last a couple of days, so most times I have to say no to even one cookie.
But I want to be an 80% healthy gluten-free clean eater.4 -
OP it's great if that works for you!
I eat pizza almost every week and find it quite filling. I do much better with moderate to high carbs, but it's true that others do better low carb.
Just don't set yourself up with a diet that you'll struggle to stick with, lots of folks fall into that trap.15 -

Except cookies would likely have a decent amount of fat too, and some protein. Fwiw, the fat and sugar combo is a delicious combination13 -
Op, were you drinking alcohol? Cause that was probably the likely culprit.
When I eat carbs like pizza it fills me up and I do not get hungry again. So not sure if it’s just your reaction or a fluke.3 -
If that’s all I ate I’d probably be hungry in an hour too. I love pizza and I’ll usually try to have it with a big side salad too to help fill me up while still enjoying the pizza.9

I, on the other hand, love baking, generally prefer white rice to brown (though well cooked brown rice is really good), and have steadily lost or maintained my weight, give or take 10 pounds for over two years (which is as far back as I've tracked my weight with any frequency). When I am tracking my calories it's a matter of making sure I have room to eat whatever it is that I want to eat and potentially overestimating the calories if I'm eating something that I haven't prepared myself and isn't packaged. It just doesn't make sense, generally speaking, for me to say, "ok I need to cut out this large group of foods that I am not allergic, don't have a food intolerance to, or don't otherwise pose an undeniable risk to my health".
Of course I also say this after having just finished a late evening ride on the bike inside, partially because I needed to not risk getting out of the habit of my three times a week rides (yay base building...), partially because I had put today's ride off until today as opposed to Wednesday, and partially because I knew I'd be burning around 500 calories which allowed the cider I had this evening to fit quite neatly into my calorie budget for today.4 -

Now you know. Now you can cut out those lame rules of no white foods and no sugar that the media loves to fill us with. Eat balanced, eat food you like, and enjoy the food you eat, and you don't get rabid cravings.10 -
It's good that you're finding ways to make your diet work and keep you happy.
I, on the other hand, found that lack of carbs has that hunger effect on me. I eat oatmeal or an english muffin for breakfast because anything without carbs just doesn't keep me full. Throughout the day, I balance the rest of my meals with a nice variety of veggies, fruits, proteins, fats, sugar, and more carbs.
I focus on a variety of food that keep me full, happy, and as close to my calorie goal as possible. Definitely no restrictions unless it's just not worth the calories (for that day, anyway).3 -
That happens to me also. I believe its the wheat. Whenever I eat wheat products I get famished and hungry and want to repeat and eat more and more wheat. Its like an addiction.16
-
It has nothing to do with carbs triggering hunger, it's just that 2 small slices of veggie pizza with light cheese just isn't filling, lol. It's about making smart choices for the calories (and having 100 extra calories of cheese on pizza goes a long way, by the way).
With just pizza crust and veggies, you basically ate all carbs. You need more protein and fat to keep you satiated. It's not about 'carbs are evil' but about balancing your macros.15 -

I so agree I've been getting mixed replys but I think you absolutely undetstand. We are all different but I know for me white carbs make me hungry and its that hunger that will make you eat until you are sick!11 -
A lot of the people I see on MFP forums complaining of intense cravings and binging cut out whole types of food like you say you are trying to do.
I eat a lot of what I used to ate, just in smaller portions. Lost 20 lbs since late October. Don't have problems with cravings or binging.8 -
Two slices? Not that many calories because ite cheese so low fat and minimal protein. Two macros lots of people find they need to not feel hungry two minutes later. Mystery solved. Not the white food (which is often no better or worse than "brown" food).4

OMG! I just discovered Blaze Pizza last night. I had an entire pizza for 660 calories! I had the craving for pizza and the calories to spend.... and it was GOOD!3 -

Blaze pizza is awesome! I love how you can add TONS of fresh veggies and can also eat the entire pizza lol. I go there often.1 -

Sounds good. I'll try it. Thanks!1 -
This is about doing what is right for oneself.
I've been reading recently, sugar and highly refined flour can work similarly, the are absorbed much more quickly than other less process foods, they can disrupt digestion. So if your system is one which takes this aproach pizza crusts, yummy as they can be, can be just to send you grazing. Best to find the vegies, celery anyone?13 -
ive lost 100+ pounds eating carbs and sugar and booze and all sorts of stuff.
maybe you just didnt eat ENOUGH.
2 pieces of that wouldnt have filled me up, either.8 -
Are you sure it wasn't the fact that two small pieces of pizza are not enough for a meal?
Are you sure it wasn't a coincidence?
Are you sure it wasn't hormones?
Are you sure it wasn't undereating catching up with you?
My point is, it could be the carbs (although doubtful because you already eat brown carbs), some people just don't do well on carbs, but it could also be many other things. Carbs can be "clean" by many definitions, sugar can also be "clean" by many definitions. I personally don't like arbitrary rules and would rather not cut anything out unless I'm sure my diet is more sustainable without it. People tend to find patterns where there are none, by nature. I would hate to deprive myself of something I like because it coincided with something completely unrelated.
P.S: I don't eat clean and my diet is higher than average in carbs and I'm not constantly starving. I see no reason to avoid sugar or eat low carb.8 -

Congratulations on your weight loss an thank you for the comment. How often do you workout or do activities that get you moving. I'm struggling with that.0 -
I figure I've had a good clean eating day when I don't drop my food on the floor. I now want to make cookies, hopefully they stay clean... I'm pretty clumsy.3
-
I'd be starving too, if all I had for dinner was 2 slices of veggie pizza.1
