Successes/struggles of the week: my last episode of grievous overeating was January 1st. And that sent my bursting through the ceiling of my maintenance range. Since then I've had a firm grip. I have been experimenting with a couple of new guidelines: one is to leave the "more would be good" tasty treats til the end of the day... and AFTER supper, not BEFORE; another is to have great breakfast, but lighter lunch so I have lots of glorious calories to spend on supper/dessert. Geez, I think I've found my magic formula at last, not feeling tempted at all to be wild no crazy! Anyway, I'm keeping on keeping on with my journey to the lower end of my maintenance range.
All the best fellow warriors!

Success/struggles of the week:
I stopped logging in my food diary since mid-week. I've been eating silly. My belly, I think, is about to explode. It is not a pleasant feeling.
Also, can't be bothered to complete 10k steps each night. Because I've been so conscious about getting in the steps, I don't have time for other hobbies/interests. I'm gonna just try and stay naturally active without getting worried about numbers.
I need to sort my sleeping pattern. It's not doing me any favours. I don't exactly know how I'll achieve this but it needs to improve.
Hang in there gal! I hear you on the eat until you think your tummy will burst. I think it's the time of year. Just give yourself 3 to 4 days to get back on track and it will get better. Many hugs. I think a lot of us are going thru this right now but we are all going to maintain!!!2 -

Success/struggles of the week: My weight started low this week then went back up after some tacos and some homemade pan pizza on valentine's day. Then it came back and settled at 119 which seems to be where I am maintaining. The trend stayed at 119.something all week so I knew it was just fluctuations. It's weird because even though I don't think I need to go any lower, it still bothers me a bit when my weight is up. And up just put me back into my range which I am maintaining slightly under. Sometimes I wonder if the mind games of weight loss will ever go away.
Homemade pizza and tacos? Are you married? If not, interested in a slightly neurotic 36 yo? J/K Slightly is probably an understatement for me! Much love and well wishes!2 -
@CoachJen71 - thanks for your reply - I went up to the MFP estimate to maintain at 1535/day - so then I went back to 1200 and decided to inch it up by 100 cal/day and see how that goes, will try to fine tune my real maintainance level.2

Successes and challenges - I went steadily down again when I returned to 1200 calories strictly, then had a 3 day weekend ski vacation. Despite all the exercise (that included backcountry!) started creeeeeeping back up. Pulling it in again.
This is giving me confidence that I can skip freaking out and manage it. More travel is coming over the next month. Would love to hear people's travel tips - my best shot is to eat only 1/2 of anything I'm served at a restaurant (and, of course making best healthy choices and trying to stay away from snacks and sugar)
Any other travel hacks that have worked well for people?
Appreciation to all of you,
Cypress8 -
@cypressfey I bring as much pre-weighed food with me as I can. All my regular stuff like sugar-free yogurts and pb2, chicken, tumaros wraps, lite cheese sticks, tea, stevia, fat free half n half, light margarine, tic tacs/sugarless gum/hard candies, dark chocolate, etc. I aim to only eat out once per day and usually try to keep it light, unless it's really amazing.2

How long in maintenance: Since 4/14/17
Maintenance weight range: Would like to stay under 122 at morning weigh-in.
Jan-Jun 2017 avg weight trend: 124.4lbs

Successes of the week: Did all right while out to eat. Made good choices.
Challenges of the week: Vacation always leads to overeating at home and then playing run away from my fork. My clothes are getting tighter and arthritis achier, so I think my new calorie plan is a bit too generous for just walking up and down my hall or lifting little hand weights. I'm going to dial back a bit and see what happens. I will be happy once I figure my numbers out!

Success/struggles of the week: Back up to 117 which has seemed to be the right number for me over the last couple of months. Got a morning workout in every day which always helps mind as much as body!
Struggles: Tiredness. Have not been going to bed early enough as had lots to organise for my child’s birthday and other life admin on top of long days at work. I know if I want to get up and work out before my kids wake up I need to go to sleep earlier. Just not managed it this week. Need to remember being healthy includes rest as well as nutrition and exercise.8 -

Success/struggles of the week: Not surprised the scales went up this week - new workout routine, TOM, stress at work, and vacation over the long weekend to visit family I haven’t seen/talked to in about 20 years. In the reality of it all, I think I did pretty good.
Mindful eating still in fledgling stages. I have to keep reminding myself about portion control and that the food will still be there tomorrow if I don’t eat it all today.... Baby steps.

Eating plan MACRO TRACKING MACHINE!!! LOL 53% Carbs, 25% pro, 22% fat still playing with macro % for hunger and satiety
Successes: Starting to be more active inside support groups such as this one. Helps me to understand that there are people like me out there, and some of them have the same issues as I do. Reading research still to help me understand the mechanics of weight regain. While this might not stop regain, I am one of those people that like to see what makes things tick. I am coming to better terms with some weight gain necessity still. Its a slow progress. Understanding that 14000 steps a day for me now is just too many with my current goals. Trying to lighten to 12.5K. Getting better at being rigidly flexible is what I will call it. Shaving a few cals a day to have a special dinner with friends and family. Also, I have notice that my head snap to higher caloric foods is getting better. I think it might be that I no longer deny myself them. If I fit them inside my macro goals, I can have a small amount here and there.
Struggles: Still trying to find balance in life. I know I have to heal my body, but I feel like I am getting oooiii gooooiii, soft. I know its my mind playing tricks, I think. Scale trends are close to static at this time with current intake. I still have some hunger issues. I get hungrier quicker these days. Sometimes only an hour after eating. Trying to reprogram body to only eat 5 times a day. I know its my leptin and ghrelin, and lack of sleep sometimes. During my off days, I work 4 off 3 on, I don't get as hungry strangely. Its generally at work I get the hungry 1hr ques? Strange I know. It could be my lifting days are my off days maybe? I am also learning to see what is going on when I get hungry and write it down. Someone suggested this on another forum here. I have noticed, that my hunger tend to die at around 6-7 pm for now. Still trying to figure that one out! I also watched my ex get remarried. I am happy for her. It also made me realize, it's going to be hard to find a woman that can put up with the lifestyle I am going to have to live to hopefully keep the weight off for a long time. I have come to notice that the average person on the street has no idea what ( Some ) of us go through to keep weight regain at bay. I also have to be careful not to macro horde for the night time. I keep worrying about getting hungry, that sometimes I will horde up macros and not eat enough during the day when I am off.
Best of luck fellow hopeful maintainers! Peace, love and chicken grease, opps sorry Pam Non Stick Spray! LOL9 -
Name: Summer
Age: 59
Height: 5'1.75"
Total Weight lost: ~34 lbs
Time it took to lose: 18 weeks
How long in maintenance: 4 months (counting in months now YEAH!!!)
Maintenance weight range: under 100 (this parameter changes a lot too... ) Started at 101-105 and have gradually moved it down based on how I feel. I think I have it dialed in now to where I should stay.
Average weight recorded from October: 103.9
Average weight recorded from November: 100.9
Average weight recorded from Dec: 98.6
Average weight recorded from Jan: 98.25
Week ending:
3 February: avg 99.6
10 February: 99.3
17 February: 99.5
24 February: 98.8
Success/struggles of the week/month: on track now. Changed my MFP settings a little bit and that seems to mentally help keep me at steady state. I want to try to eat at a level to support my runs and workouts and not try to change daily. I think once in maintenance it's hard to change the "eat my calories back" mindframe over to "eat to fuel and get stronger" for better workouts.7 -

@psychod787 Thanks for believing in me!
Sounds like you have a lot going on, but are still making it work. *hug* You might find someone who is also health conscious. Hubby wasn't obese like I was, but he bought a Fitbit to track his hikes and basketball games. Then one day he shocked the heck out of me by signing up for MFP. It's been great having someone on my team right here on the house, although it can have it's drawbacks at times. LOL5 -

Success/struggles of the week:
This has been a good week! Not too many struggles. Friday I went to a Ladies' Night Shrimp Feast at the local fire dept. and managed to control my shrimp consumption (not so much the wine, though). Tonight my boyfriend and I are celebrating our five year anniversary by ordering out from one of our favorite Italian restaurants. Since I am gluten free, I usually get their awesome Greek salad. I will request the EVOO on the side and try not to eat all of the yummy feta cheese. But, I have learned that I can have the occasional splurge weekend and not get completely off track.9 -

Success / struggles of the week: my weight has been steadily dropping this week, and got to 142 yesterday without me doing much of anything other than controlling snacks after dinner. I mean, just having a little less, not deny. It still amazes me how simple it is to take charge of what's happening to my body , not always easy, but so attainable. What the heck took me do long to figure it out?5 -

25th February: 55.8
Average for February: 56.1 kilos. - 2.8 kilos or 6.2 pounds less, on average than January. I'll take it.
More than a pound up. I had 6 lbs loss in 3 weeks, a lot for my size, so some levelling off and fluctuation seems par for the course. I'll pay attention. I stayed on track though, unless I mistracked somehow.
WW makes drinks really pointy: a 12 oz can of apple juice was 10 points! Whereas one only gets 23 points per day (for my size and activty-i'm small w slow metabolism and just walks and now a few runs, and 21 WP. A not crazy pastry can be 15-17 points! high glucide content is really not encouraged.
Due to work and really cold weather I only went for two 15-minute runs this week, plus a few walks. It's still a cold spell.
I'm staying optimistic. Hopefully in March I will be back at maintenance range, with you all.8 -

Sucesses/Struggles: Weight wise, I seem to be stablizing, which is the goal. Just that one high week on the 11th. Food wise, still a day by day struggle. Some days, I'm great. Eat 3 square, healthy meals, minimum snacking. Some days, I eat those and a whole sleeve of Thin Mints and 3 glasses of wine. Ugh.
So the "wheat free" thing we are about 80% on. We are 80% of the time making good decisions. The rest, when we say "oh well", are WAY fewer than they used to be. So, all in all, we are trying. He says he can see a change in his energy. And I can see a change in how I grocery shop. So to just so we keep that up, I think things will improve over time when it gets to be our "usual".
I found out Friday that I got the promotion for sure. And what my pay will be come April 1st. It was an amazing number, which worked out to be a 19% raise. I've never seen that ever in my 18 years of employment. So, I'm pretty happy. With it comes more work, more responsibility and less MFP forum posting...LOL
I'll talk to you all next week. I hope you are all kicking butt and taking names.9 -

Successes/struggles of the week: my update last week said my last episode of overeating was January 1st... that was a typo, should have said "January 21st". Right then, so here we are, 5 weeks later, still haven't gone off the rails!! Hey!! Fantastic!! Yippee!!
One of the many great things about this thread is all the strategizing everybody does to outsmart the tendency to regain - marks it all seem so much more like a fun game, and so much less like deprivation or torment. So in the spirit of the games, I continue to happily and contentedly focus on moving to the lower end of my maintenance range. Have a great week all you dragon-slayers!

Last month I was at the upper end of my range so it was time to dial it back. I'm seeing progress despite crazy daily fluctuations. Today is a low I haven't seen since Oct. Will probably be up again in a day or 2 but going in the right direction. This was my maintenance plan. If I get to the top of my range, cut back calories til I'm back in range. It sounds simple but something I could not figure out at other times in my life. So it's a big win.
Fortunately I haven't felt as hungry lately as I did last fall. All I've done is cut out a snack or 2 and be more careful when eating out. Even those small changes are hard when you always feel hungry, but I knew I had to.
Weight management is part of our life journey and there is always something new to figure out.9 -

Success/struggles of the week: Well, I am going to hold off on the couch to 5k, however, I continue trying to get my 3+ miles walking. My daily step goal is 11,000. I have also started doing yoga and really enjoy it. It IS tough though. Last week I was out of town at a meeting that required driving 8 hours to get there. That messed up my steps 2 of those days. I am back home though and walked 3.2 miles this evening. I am not going to freak out, just be a little more mindful of what is going on. Interestingly enough my weight was the same when I left as when I got back. No problem. Stick with the plan. Up the activity. Thanks guys for listening.9 -
