Love french fries and Manhattans:) xoxo I remember buying Maker's Mark cherries ; they are still in my fridge. The problem ( a good problem) is the jar lid is so tight, i cant open them.4 -
Good morning or Good night , my friends. I've been on a Russell Brand kick. Watching his videos and interviews of overcoming addiction. He says our addiction to drugs, food, alcohol, relationships comes from area of great pain. This is so true. But we can identify our pain and deal with it.
Here's a short video. He's a bit strange, but I like him. He also has a book that I haven't read yet.
I just started reading the book some of you have read called Blackout. Very amusing and yet sad because I can see a glimpse of myself in the author.

@JulieAL1969 1969 re alcohol aging... looking for my cross and garlic2

@JulieAL1969 Blackout was a good quick read. I saw so much of myself in her, as well. I am still reading Drinking: A Love Story, it's got a lot more "meat" to it.
Well, it's a breezy but warm(ish) Sunday morning here in the Motor City. I'd love to take the dog for a walk but I am pretty sure we would get blown away. SO! I will sit here with my coffee and my clear head, make my menu for the week and enjoy the clarity and energy this thread gave me the motivation to pursue! ((Hugs)) to you all!6 -
Was 10 days af but went out after a movie last night and had a glass of wine with appetizers. No regret, I made the decision to have it and sipped it and enjoyed. After it was gone, I wanted something more but not alcohol when I noticed the people sitting next to me at the bar had left a half full bottle of Pellegrino which I immediately commandeered. Got a glass with ice and sat there happily finishing it off. (It was so nice of them to share. snort, snort) For when I want to stay af, I now have something more than club soda to consider. I love this thread as it keeps me mindful.4

Drinking a love story is good, too. I read it but it is slow. I remember wanting to finish it to see how her life turned out.1 -

I'm in the middle of it. It is very insightful as to motivation.

Having roast chicken as my main meal today and will probably have two glasses of red wine. Factored into my cal allowance and then back on the wagon tomorrow... will need to stay off the cocktails though!3

Thanks for posting this video, I had no idea he had conquered his addiction(s). I'm going to check out more of his videos, I can relate to what he's saying.1 -
My next goal: no wine until the scale moves noticeably!8

So far, so good this weekend. Two glasses of wine with friend Friday, one glass last night. Planning on another tonight and then back to Mon-Thurs AF. I'm starting to get used to the routine, and finding I don't obsess as much about "getting" to drink wine on weekends. I actually had a headache Saturday morning from the Friday wine. My tolerance levels are plummeting, LOL. Hope everybody else is having a great weekend!8

I have never had a desire for a Manhattan, and this is probably not a great time to cultivate one. My parents used to drink them religiously when my dad got home from work. This was in the 1950s-early '60s. I once sneaked a sip and it was so vial I nearly vomited. Lucky for me that (unpleasant) memory stuck with me. Likewise with scotch - tried it at a party at least 30 years ago, got extremely drunk and then extremely sick. That was it for scotch. That brings me to wine, which I loved the moment I tried it, I'm pretty sure, LOL.

This is similar to me. The nights I drink I’m not habitually drinking as much and the nights I’m not drinking it’s not “as” front of mind. It’s still there - Since I had a couple of social events Weds/Thurs this week I wanted to abstain Friday and Saturday - but Friday night came and as I was cooking dinner I really thought about pouring a glass, ended up not and was proud of myself. Last night went bowling with the family, had a couple beers, again, could have easily had more but didn’t think about it. Quiet week this week so I want to try to get in that weeknight abstinence weekend moderation routine a little more.7 -
Any more good reads re. AF and role of alcohol in our lives? Enjoying these posts a ton - I am trying to moderate but might go straight to total AF. I am 9 days AF. I am not good at moderation when it comes to drinking. Reflecting on the role of alcohol in my life, absolutely nothing positive has come from it - from binge drinking as a teenager, right through university and more occasionally when my kids were young, etc. I am almost 50 and think I am done with it.6

@ehseeker, I have relied a lot on San Pellegrino. It feels so festive and fancy and doesn't have sodium like club soda.
Last night at my mom's b'day party everybody had champagne and then at the restaurant martinis and wine and margaritas. I had San P. (l'acqua minerale!) at home and then diet Coke with lime (important!) at the restaurant. At the end of the meal, I asked my husband if he'd think I was evil if I ordered an Irish coffee, and he said, "Of course not." When the server came, I ordered an Irish coffee . . . but then told her to leave out the whiskey. Whew! And it tasted delicious. Take that, little devil on my shoulder.7 -

I am definitely used to my once a week routine too. And even on weekends when I dont have any it isn’t much of a big deal. I’m really much better at planning things out in advance.
And i’m totally with you on the tolerance being down. Doesn’t take much these days, haha2 -
Still dry here! That makes 6 in a row and 8 total for February. I am 2 days shy of my goal for February and don't want to mess that up. I have taken up reading to entertain myself and I think it's working. Happy Sunday everyone, hoping yall hit your goals this weekend, no matter what they are!7

I'm in at this late date but will do next month as well! Drinking is slowing my loss5

Wanted to share this: On ‘Falling Off the Wagon’ - from Trent Hamm, a financial blogger I follow. He's mostly discussing falling off the financial wagon, but everything he says is relevant to the work we all are doing here to manage our alcohol intake.
I really liked this part:
Falling off the wagon of any self-discipline doesn’t mean that you’ve suddenly altered your ideals in any way. What it means is that, for a while, you didn’t live up to the standards of the person you want to be.
The person you want to be has their head on straight. The person you want to be makes wise financial choices and wise health choices. The person you want to be does a lot of things well.
Think about the person you want to be. Would that person do the things you’re doing? If not, then why on earth are you doing them?
Here’s the nice part: the more you try to emulate the actions of the person you want to be, the more you become the person you want to be. The emulation becomes more and more natural over time.10 -

Redemption day for me today. After a drinking and food binge yesterday I am able to end my day AF and 134 calories below my food diary allowed amount. YAY YAY YAY
Now off to bed before I screw it up some how.13 -
Hello people, I was visiting family. My Mom said I had lost a lot of weight. She thought I lost it because of the flu, but I knew it was because of being here with you guy, I did look very handsome to be fair19

Hi! Just joined the app and the community. I love this thread. My goal is to go alcohol free until the end of the month (!) and then no more than 2 beers a week in March.7

Welcome! We are all going at our own pace but actively resisting alcohol!6 -

As i’m realizing Feb is just about done I was looking over my daily chart I keep. I was definitely not as good to myself as I was in January.
Although I had them planned that way, the two extra nights I drank in the beginning of the month really raised my total days I drank for Feb.
My busy schedule really held up my progress at the gym too. I only made it an average of twice a week compared to four times a week in January. I did keep up my yoga goal this month. But I’d like to see a month where I can achieve all my wellness goals.
I have at least a few more days to try and lose this last pound, and at least with all the setbacks I will have hit my weight loss goal.3
