Tumble spent the morning with me, drive to vet for Scooter's rx, short walk at St. George point (brrr wind felt like it was from the snowbanks, not the sea!), another longer walk around Home Depot's parking lot. She did very well, was totally calm as cars drove past. She even made friends with a woman who wanted to photograph her. Of course the woman was smart enough to hunker down and let Tumble approach at her own pace. One of the trainers suggested getting Tumble's hair up so I can see her eyes, see if she's focused on me or elsewhere. Wrapped 3 little pigtails up with hot pink ear wrap. She looked so silly! Seems to have made a big difference. May try baby hair clips next...
Heather Promenade and sea at the end of your road? Fingers, toes and eyes crossed
Kylia Think I'll borrow your goal weight range. I too am petite in bone structure, but alas not in mass ;( as my knees remind me.
Okie Great weigh-in, yippee!
Lisa, Brava for the cathartic conversation. Horrified but not reflexively reacting, well done! Have you been meditating? 15 and 17, can really sympathize. We fostered Joe's nephews when they were 13, 14 and 16. Unfortunately we had never discussed/agreed on parenting philosophy/protocols so were complete flops. I comfort myself that for two years the boys were sheltered, fed, clothed, had dental/medical care, and were educated when we could get them to go to school. Down 11.5 lbs in one month! VERY well done. The "younger"pic doesn't look much different to me... you rock!
Machka thanks for the tour notes. Poisonous snakes? :noway: You are so good at listening to your body. Very well done!
Cheri what great news! Tell us about your new home?
Rye had a makeover once in high school that plucked my brows. Owwww! Never again. Like you, always aimed for clean and tidy. Unlike you the tidy never lasted long... and salad dressing is the enemy of clean always ends up on my "shelf". Shave legs only before massage therapist or Dr. appt, but hair now so sparse almost don't need to do that.
KJ Cleanest and most organized, yay you! and most thoughtful, those activity bins still wow me.
Sue in WA what a mischievous darling puppy!
Becca the bead bracelet motivation!
Mary in AZ Your hubs sure looks happy, as well he should! What a kettlebelle! How about some pics of the grand 'uns?
Margaret beautiful roses, great choice.
Pat in OH ((hugs)) are you home now?
Wendy I'd be swinging that kettlebell threateningly at the employees ... no really, how can you get through to them??? Grrr!
Barbie agree with Jake, Physical Therapists are the cheerfullest sadists ever. Agree with you too, the results of not doing PT are so much worse.
Joyce great story about your mom learning how to manage $$$. Glad your BP is doing well, hugs for those fingers.
Laura congrats on the great choices, you cutie you!
Sharon fingers X'd for your Dr. appt. It's Dr.s' jobs to fill in medical forms, you are not imposing on them.
Welcome anathywill, let us know what you want to be called and where you are?
Mindful hugs to all,

Good morning all! Happy Tuesday! Woke up this morning to DH warming up some food in the micro. His last meal. He has his first colonoscopy tomorrow He didn't read his instructions. The ones that say "no food the day before". He freaked a little bit; but I told him he is okay, because his procedure isn't until noon, tomorrow (he was eating at 5am). He is having some major anxiety over this. He has to stop some of his meds, and also the no food then no water after midnight tonight is making him nervous in regards to how much pain he will be in due to his RA. I didn't have any issues with mine; as a matter of fact, I found it pretty easy. BUT, I have a feeling he won't. He is a very "woe is me" personality. I look at a problem and say "I can do this!" He looks at the same problem and says "I can't do this!" Perhaps that is why we are still together. The yin and the yang. I can tell I am getting "old" and patience is thin, because his "I can't do this" attitude makes me want to smack him around a bit.
DJ-Your Moose party looks like a riot! You will have to share some pics of the event if you have the time.
Karen VA- How many calories you burn depends on how overweight you are. If you imagine, a 140 lb person carrying 80 pound dumbells while they are exercising/walking etc., you get a better idea of the amount of effort put forth for those of us trying to work our way down to healthy. It also makes the wear and tear on our joints more understandable. It also makes it easier to understand why it gets harder to get the weight off the closer you get to your goal weight. You have to keep challenging and changing up your exercise. (More weights, more reps, more distance, more speed)
Thinking of all of you lovely ladies as I begin today! New homes, relationship woes and bonding, daily grinding, keepin' on...Love you all and you inspire me daily

I've loaded photos from the first couple days of our cycling tour.
We flew over to Melbourne on Friday 16th, and then drove up to Bendigo on the Saturday for our 200 km audax cycling event which was held on the Sunday. Monday we wandered around Bendigo a little bit and then drove to Melbourne and dropped off our rental car. From then on, we were carfree! That evening, we wandered around Melbourne a little bit.
On Tuesday 20 February, we started our tour. First, we caught the train out to the start of the Great Victorian Rail Trail.
When we got there, we started riding. It was a hot sunny day, so about halfway along, we stopped for a bit of a break.
Our first day of touring was only about 40 km, but coming 2 days after the 215 km ride, plus being on gravel in the hot sun, it was a bit of a struggle. I actually wondered briefly about the wisdom of doing this particular tour. In just a couple days time, the length of the rides would increase!
However, we made it to the end of our first day, got some much needed cold drinks (coke) and citrus ice creams, and felt much better. We relaxed for a while in our cabin watching the Olympics, then went out for dinner and followed it by a walk through the local wetlands. When we lived in that area, we'd never visited the wetlands so we figured we finally would! It was lovely in there with lots of birds and one brown snake. Poisonous, of course.
The next day we were on our way to Alexandra. First it was up and through the Cheviot Tunnel ...
It is quite a long tunnel and gets very dark soon after entering, so we were glad of our lights.
From there we descended and then climbed again to the lookout over the Alexandra area, and then descended into Alexandra.
We wandered the main street of town, checking everything out. I liked this ... a kangaroo made from a bicycle wheel.
Then we visited friends we hadn't seen in some time, we cycled roads we haven't cycled in a few years, and later in the evening we rode out to spend the evening with more friends.
We do miss that part of the world. I'm not sure if we would want to move back there or not. I think if we came into some money or retired, it would be a very good location ... but it is a bit difficult to find work there.
Day 3 was a longer day. First we cycled to another friend's place and she showed me how to spin! I wasn't very good at it, but I could see how someone might get into it.
Then the route took us mostly, gradually uphill to Mansfield. Fortunately, it was a little bit cooler and somewhat overcast. One highlight of this leg of the journey is the long bridge across Lake Eildon.
Since the trail is gravel/chert, and since it was still fairly warm and humid, what you can't see in the photo below is that my legs are covered in dust/dirt which puffs up when we cycle through it, and sticks to my sweaty legs.

Day 4 was the longest day, but there was quite a bit of downhill which was fun.
We had a nice breakfast in Mansfield and then got on the trail. It wasn't long until we arrived at the Bonnie Doon bridge over Lake Eildon.
Then down into Yarck, and back up the Cheviot Tunnel again and down into Yea.
Day 5 was a short day again, and our last day on the trail. The trail at this end doesn't have as nice a surface as the rest. It's more gravelly and soft so it made for a bit more work. Also, although it looked like it was going to rain at any moment, it was hot and humid.
We did stop at a hotel we used to see when we drove into Melbourne. A few years ago, it was a beautiful, historical, busy place that served lunches and teas and all sorts. But now, it looks half abandoned, and they certainly weren't serving lunches. We went in anyway to get something to drink and were sold two cans of coke for ... wait for it ... $12!! I check Trip Advisor, and it looks like the place started to go downhill about 2 years ago. That's sad.
But much of the trail follows the Goulburn River so it's scenic. And before long, we were back in Tallarook where we started.
We were there well in time to catch the early train back into Melbourne when an announcement came that it was cancelled. Oh dear. When they cancel trains they replace them with coaches but coaches don't take bicycles. Our only choice was to wait for the next train and hope it would turn up.
Meanwhile a man and lady came to the station house, after a bit, we started chatting with them. Apparently they rent the place as a "holiday home" because they like trains and like getting out into the country. And the town likes to have them there because they come out every couple weeks keep the place up so it looks nice. He told us all sorts of things about the history of the station ... very interesting.
Our train did come and we were on our way to Melbourne. That evening, we went for a walk to look for a place to eat and found a lovely little "alleyway" lined with restaurants and chose a great Italian place. Lots of atmosphere ... people watching, music, and all.
The next day we flew home.

Machka, how did the spinning go?
I wasn't very good at it. It's a bit like patting your head while rubbing your tummy. I'd get going with the foot pedal and the wheel would be going the right direction, then all of a sudden it would go in reverse. Finally we got onto using the wool and that went all right but mine was quite a bit thicker and coarser than what my friend was doing.
Like anything, it would take some practice!

Haven't heard anything yet.
We were lucky to outrun the snow yesterday, behind us it settled and there have been lots of accidents. Snow here might arrive later this week. DH has just gone out to buy fresh veg, fruit and milk. We have bread in the freezer.
If we do get to Hove our bread bill will go up. Just eaten the "caramelised" garlic bread for lunch with left over turkey burgers. Very, very garlicky! Also brought back seeded sourdough. They cost a fortune!! Also give your jaw plenty of exercise.
Trying to cope with feeling a bit anxious, but comforting myself with the thought that DH doesn't want to let it slip through our fingers. I'm a very impatient person and hate ambiguity and uncertainty.
Perhaps my run this afternoon will clear my brain.

After some anxious waiting, I finally got my mark for my course. It was meant to be published on Feb 21, but what came up online was "Withheld". I found out everyone's mark was withheld, and finally today we got a formal letter informing us that "a change has been made" to our results, and I've passed quite comfortably.
I suspect that the marks went to a review. The in-course marks among the students I talked to were good, as was mine. But the exam was only vaguely related to the course material. I wasn't sure I passed it, and neither were quite a number of other students. I know there were complaints made ... so I suspect that the exam mark was looked at and adjusted. Whew!
I'm into my next course and have received my first assignment late tonight. I'll look at it tomorrow.
Both yesterday and today were days of long walks plus today I climbed 12 flights of stairs. Getting back into the stair climbing again! I'll probably feel it tomorrow.
And I've got back into logging my food again too.
I had gained 1 kg ... even after all that cycling! Or maybe because of it. I had sort of created a perfect storm situation. We gain water weight in all sorts of situations including: extra exercise, heat, lots of sun exposure to our skin (especially sunburn, which I avoided, but I did tan), and air travel.
However, this morning I had already lost 0.5 kg, so that's good.
Yesterday I just cut back on what I was eating a bit, and today I was under my calorie limit, so things should start heading in the right direction again.

My early walking friend has a meeting this morning and won't be walking with me so the dogs and I will be alone and I can finish listening to the podcast I started earlier which is an interview with Dan Harris who is one of my heroes.
At 9:30 my other walking friend and I will go for a walk around the neighborhood for about 90 minutes with no dogs.
After that, I have a pile of paperwork to deal with.

I've just heard that my DDIL's TEDx talk is now on Utube. Some of you were interested to see it. This is the link to the over 50s group that Lisa started because we weren't allowed to post external links on this thread. I have linked in on a post in the group, which we are allowed to do.

Hi Ladies,
Decided to start the Slimfast plan for a couple of weeks to see if I can get a jump start on my weight loss. I'll keep y'all informed.
Becca- loved your snow chart. It's pretty right on except for the East Coast. Most of that was right, but New England has its own set of rules.
Michele- I wish you lived near me, then you could help me clean my house. lol. I have to get rid of a lot of stuff as well as really clean from top to bottom. Hopefully, when it gets warm so I can air out the house as well, I'll get to clean and get rid of stuff. Much of it belongs to DH and DD. I have some, too, but I try to weed as I go. It's sunny, but breezy here today and the weatherman is calling for a nor'easter. Not sure if it will be rain, snow or both, but should know by Thursday what's happening. March is good for large snowstorms. Have A great day. Hello to all the newbies.Thi is a great thread and a great group of Ladies.4 -
Becky we will have to meet up PM me..2
