Just wanted to let you know that you look SMOKIN' :) Don't let these people get you down, you know your body and you have the help of doctors to make sure everything is ok. People need to understand that everyone is different, so just chill out already.

TL;DR version: OP didn't give a disclaimer that her VLCD was under "doctor" supervision because of a health condition, and butthurt ensued when a few people pointed out her unhealthy lifestyle.

and jof, every time I see your picture I swear it's my brother. you two have about the same personality too.

What was the motive behind posting the success story though? If you just wanted to get it out, and have it be known, keep it to your profile or a blog so then your friends would know and say. You did a great job. When you put it out there, with as little background information as you provided, you are promoting what you did to succeed as a method for all who read it. That includes those who are brand new, and have no idea how anything works, and come to the success story boards for motivation and ideas about how to drop some serious poundage.

There is a section called motivation and support. When most people post a success story , it because they are proud of what they have accomplished and want to share it with others.

I couldn't find your response in that.. Please make sure you put it outside of all the previous quotes.

In the community forum there is a section called motivation and support and another for Success stories. Was this successful for me and my situation. Yes. When most people post a success story , it because they are proud of what they have accomplished and want to share it with others .

Then do just that. A simple post stating. Here is where I was, and here is where I am now. Look at how much difference there was... {insert pics}...

People don't just glean their advice from one section of the forums. There are tons of people I have seen post that often say, "Stay out of this forum. That's where all the mean people are. If you want real advice, go to the Motivation and Support and the Success Stories Forums."

By posting beyond your accomplishments, you are promoting what you did to everyone whether or not that was your intent. Also, you are being contradictory. When you were first confronted about this posting, you said...
Ok first of all Im not promoting a low calorie Diet. I am promoting doing zumba and yoga, which has proven results....
Now you are asserting you just wanted to show everyone that you were successful and not promote what you did. It seems like you are just arguing and shifting what you said to save face now.

    Edited to fix quotes.

im not doing it to save face. Im being put under fire and being picked apart .Anyone who feels they are genuinely being attacked would do the same thing. I didnt say anything that I didnt mean.

I don't see where anyone has picked you apart or personally attacked you. I see where they have brought some light to the potential inappropriateness of your OP, and tried to ensure that lurkers and noobs don't think VLCD diets and excessive exercise is a good method for weight loss.

There is a plethora of studies on VLCD that show this to be the case. I think all of those who have commented on your post that you feel are attacking you are trying to promote healthy weight loss vs .unhealthy weight loss.

I don't even disagree that Zumba is a good thing to do for weight loss. It basically boils down to calories in < calories out at a reasonable deficit. The methods that they use to burn the calories is up to them. If they wish to do it with Zumba, more power to them. I have even considered doing it myself when I get fried out on my Arc Trainer on cardio days. That being said, it doesn't really matters if you are doing Zumba, Body Pump, Water Aerobics, jogging, doing circuit training, or working on cardio equipment. As long as you burn a reasonable number of calories everyday, and are doing something you find fun and enjoyable so it will keep you interested and active, you are fine.

It's when you move beyond those reasonable limits that I begin to become concerned as a healthcare provider. There are dangerous ways to do these things and they are on both sides of the equation. There are people who have exercise buliima which hasn't even been discussed at all.

But i didnt tell anyone to eat 1200 calories a day. In my original post there was none of my diet even mentioned. Just to do Zumba.

In your original post there were dramatically different progress photos taken weeks apart. The thread title was touting a certain number of lbs and inches in a very short time. All that even without talking about calories was eye opening and shocking enough to get you multiple "way to go's" and "i wish" statements that I'm surprised did not concern you since you had all the information about your low calories and unique PCOS situation and Dr's instructions behind the scenes. I know it looked shocking enough to quite a few people and those posting are only a handful who might have been reading, you have no idea how many lurkers jumped at the title alone, looked at your pics and are now desperately searching for HOW they can do it. Perhaps they stuck around to a couple pages where your low cals come into play and are off to the races. How few do you think will sift through this entire thread to find out about your disclaimers on your now private profile, and your special circumstances?

You can ignore everyone till all get out, but unfortunately there is no ignore button for the people who might stumble onto your thread as is and get unrealistic expectations and go around searching for some way ANY way to make it happen for them, because it happened for that one girl on the internet, I saw her pic's...it was REAL!

Have to agree with this. it's great you are working with doctors on this because otherwise it'd be a "Whoa! Scary" kind of thing. But if you are going to disclose you 1200 or less eating plan, etc , you need to disclose things like that you have a medical history, etc...because there are so many people (mostly younger to the point they shouldn't be on this site) that will see your success and your eating habits and mimic you. There are also people who are pro-ana lurking on this site and may decide to follow in your footsteps.

Most of the people are bringing this up in case there are those unaware or uneducated about nutrition, calorie goals, etc in order to make them aware that there were extenuating circumstances and they probably shouldn't do what you did.
Its not her responsibility to post her full medical disclosure and diet lol just because under age users and pro ana people come to mfp and see her success sorry...This site comes with a disclaimer for a reason.

    Ah, one of those threads...

...(and I still haven't taken the time to read through all six pages yet)...

    *sigh*

...so let me guess...it's a thread where people ask for clarification and details and the ultimate story is far different than the OP initially disclosed...but people keep jumping in to congratulate based on the sketchy/arguably erroneous information on page one without realizing the truth as revealed on a later page kind of changes the conclusion.

Of course, to point that out makes you a "jealous hater" and "why can't you just be happy for OP for finding what works for her?", right? Just ignore the certainty that hundreds of people will read the thread and decide to follow the same approach and expect the same results...only to be disappointed when it doesn't happen.

Maybe I won't even bother to read through the other pages...not like so many others posting did either.

Anyhow, thanks for the "TL;DR", sis.

I disagree. I think as a community, when we share things like this, we should be responsible as the purpose of success stories is also to help inspire and teach others.

While you absolutely lost quite a bit of weight (albeit through extreme means), it's tough to get a real feel for it with your pictures. Not to be crass, but the drastic differences in your undergarments are making a true comparison challenging. I would love to be able to see a side by side with the same clothing from your first picture.

Holy **** balls, people. You know what this section is called 'SUCCESS STORIES'. She's posting this so that people can see her success. Sometimes, people like to share their accomplishments. I know, such a surprise. That being said, everyone's bodies and situations are different. Without knowing everything about a person, you can't say what is particularly right (or not) for them. I'm not really sure why people feel like others need to disclose every single piece of information about themselves when posting something. For gods sake, it's not like she's posting in the fitness section or that she's recommending a diet. She posted her pictures, said that she's done Yoga and Zumba, and BAM, that's it.

People need to get off her freaking case. She's not promoting anything other than exercise, and GOD FORBID that.

I guess you missed all the posts where she said she was eating 1200 calories and not eating back her exercise calories. If the OP is going to make those kind of remarks, and is on a special diet, OP has deceptively allowed people to believe that only zumba and yoga yielded such results, when in all actuality it was the severe calorie deficit. And in not disclosing those things, has possibly let too many people believe that this is a good way to lose weight without the advice of a medical professional :flowerforyou:

Is it rude of me to ask why women who eat 1200 calories and do cardio never bare it in a bikini, whereas the women who eat more and lift weights do? Because I'm always curious what's REALLY under those clothes that needs to be hidden.

I guess it's also apparent from my posts that I'm rude. And so is the OP with her name calling :flowerforyou:

And I only quoted chelledbrown because I was too lazy to scroll back up or delete quotes.

Me too. If someone came up to me and said "look! I lost 4-5 inches off of my waist in a week because ZUMBA!", when it's taken me a year and losing 75 lbs to lose 10 inches from my waist, and the person appears to be wearing a support undergarment, I'd sure as heck ask. Maybe I'd be wrong and they really did lose 4-5 inches off of their waist in a week, and having only lost a few lbs, but I'd certainly ask.

so why post at all then?
Because you're promoting a very low calorie diet. 1200 calories a day, 90 minutes of exercise 6 days a week, and not eating back exercise calories. What were you netting in calories? Maybe 450-500 a day? THAT is not a healthy way to lose weight. You need to fuel your body. And possibly seek professional help if you're so obsessed with losing the weight that you are willing do it in an unhealthy fashion and possibly cause harm to your internal organs.

    Good luck.

Ok first of all Im not promoting a low calorie Diet. I am promoting doing zumba and yoga, which has proven results. I am under the care of a nutritionist and a doctor for an underlying medical condition i have that has nothing to do with disorders. I have PCOS and my nutritionist has informed me not to eat back my calories for the first 6 week of my diet and to work out like this for 6 weeks. In my previous posts and my profile I publicly announce this.

I am beating my own Syndrome and to me thats progress and I dont give a hell what you have to say about it. I think i would trust my doctor and my nutritionist over anything that you have to say to me.

People will ultimately do whats right for their body, and this from health professionals is the way for me.
Obviously you do care what I have to say since you got your panties in a bunch over my post :flowerforyou:

I'm glad you've been advised by two medical professionals to do something unhealthy. Just remember, 50% of doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class.

Will you take your own advice and stop talking, please?

No, I read all of that. The OP wasn't deceptive about anything. Zumba and Yoga has helped with her success. It may not be the entire reason, but there is never only 1 reason for success. I'm not particularly sure why you decided to take up the 'good fight' of bashing someone who simply wanted to share her results, but you don't really come across as someone who is doing it for all the innocent people looking for a quick fix. People HAVE the resources out there to get the correct answers to weight loss. If they decide to look at one thread and go 'This is the only way to lose weight!', then that's entirely on them, and not the OP.
Considering that she's already said, multiple times, that this is all with the consult of a medical professional... I'm not really sure why an issue still exists.

No, I read all of that. The OP wasn't deceptive about anything. Zumba and Yoga has helped with her success. It may not be the entire reason, but there is never only 1 reason for success. I'm not particularly sure why you decided to take up the 'good fight' of bashing someone who simply wanted to share her results, but you don't really come across as someone who is doing it for all the innocent people looking for a quick fix. :Like I've stated earlier, unless you're a psychiatrist, don't tell me what's going on inside my head and what my motives are, because you know nothing about me, mmmmkay?

Your logic dictates that a half truth is still the truth and is nowhere deceptive, whether or not that was the OP's original intent.

But the thing is, not everyone has the resources. Not everyone is intelligent to know that they should research a diet/exercise regimen, or seek medical advice. There are plenty of pro-ana and young teenagers that are impressionable and desperate. They see something that is a quick fix and they go for it. This is coming from someone (me) who was anorexic at one point in life. People who have EDs aren't in the right state of mind. They don't think logically about the subject, obviously, because otherwise they wouldn't have a disorder. And I've learned that most people don't read the entire post, especially if it's multiple pages.

Everyone on this site should be cautious as to not be promoting a VLCD. With your logic I shouldn't have to wear my seatbelt because I know I'm driving safe and I should only worry about me. But I wear it anyway, because I have no idea what every other person on the road is capable of.

I cant believe what Ive read.....all be it a little. A friend of mine had gastric bypass. Does that surgery change anything other than the size of a persons stomach? NO! Under doctors supervision people all over are ordered to eat 1000-1500 calories maximum per day. No eating any exercise calories back either!!! The OP is eaying in that range....without the gastric surgery. Good for you OP! That takes dedication. You would see these same people on a sucess story for a gastric bypass doing this would you? No, you wouldnt.
Yet we are seeing people put down doctors, and fellow nurses......so sad.
This level of calorie intake ect....is not for everyone....but its not your place to be treating someone, who is under doctors orders, with a condition you know nothing about.....Sigh.....
A big congrats to your dedication....keep up the hard work. So sorry youve been treated like this. Dont bother responding to these people .

I never stated what was in your head or what your motives were. I said 'seem', which is an opinion statement and one that I've gleamed from your posts. And as for the bashing, well, that's how you come across.

So, you're caught up on the fact that she was promoting exercise as how she lost her weight, rather than the combination of exercise and her doctor's diet? So the fact that this is the 'success' section and not a 'step by step weight loss instruction' section doesn't matter? Anyone who has internet access to MFP has the access to the proper resources. I understand that people are impressionable and desperate. But people have to take responsiblity for their own actions. Everything in the world is not going to be politically correct. While I would understand your attitude if she was PROMOTING eating under calories and over-exercising, but she's not.

If you decide to not wear your seatbelt, its your choice, and you'll be responsible for the consquences. Just as people will be who are looking for quick fixes.

But this ISN'T a quick fix thread. It's someone who is posting a success story to losing weight. It makes no sense to poop all over that, simply because you seem to expect everyone on the internet to be perfectly exact and politically correct in their 'yay me' stories.
