WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MARCH 2018

Ooooh Penny, glad you like the snow! Just makes everything so much more difficult.
Yesterday a "clicker" arrived from Amazon. It's so as I can count the circuits of the deck on my cruise. Last year I walked 10 times round the deck for just over a mile. This time I hope, when it's calm, to run thirty times round the deck for my 5k. I will certainly run out of fingers! So I ordered a clicker. Each time I get to the top of the stairs that lead down to my cabin I will click it.
Got a twitchy right eye. Very annoying. I can see fine. :grumble:
The man is coming at 11 to pick up the Nike sports bag. I think I am in love with Freecycle.

Machka - woke up thinking of you and your husband. Sending healing energies, and all good thoughts your way. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us--we're all here for you.
On the passwords thing, yes I got that message too, and have changed a few passwords in response.
My daughter is now off for the next two weeks, and frantically preparing the house for her husband's return. My six-year-old grandson got on my call with his granddad on Wednesday to make sure to tell me he was missing me, but he won't be there when I get back, and he can't wait to see me when he comes back from his "other dad's." He won't be home when his daddy returns, but he's excited to see him when he comes back from "spwing bwake." He still can't say his "r"s, and it was an absolutely charming call.
Even better, our daughter has assured my husband that she is making all the necessary arrangements for the grandchildren's care so that we can leave without guilt on the 13th. So, for the next two weeks, we'll be sorting through and packing things for yet one more trip cross-country. And, since she's off for that period of time, my husband's basically off the hook for childcare except for a bit of baby-sitting while she and her husband get to know each other again.
Didn't sleep well, but enough to get the exhaustion levels down to tolerable. I knew this would be a tough week, and it was, but well worth it. I'll be back again at the end of April for a board meeting and another panel presentation for a different United Way. That time, however, I'll be driving down from Arkansas! Hopefully be around long enough to visit old friends in Fort Stockton on that trip.
My biggest decision this morning is whether to do a load of laundry at the hotel before I go, or take everything and go--considering my daughter's on a cleaning binge, I'm probably better off doing it here!
Love y'all,
Lisa - the peripatetic traveler at the moment, packing again6 -
Hi everyone
Made it the Good Friday without blowing my calories I also found the Leslie Sansone walk at home and did that this afternoon.
MACHKA
Sending prays from within OZ. There is always someone in the hospital that can help you, religious and non religious helpers are there to assist any way they can. You just need to let the nurse know your issues.
HEATHER
It was only 3 turns around the deck on my last cruise. Where are you off to?
PENNY
I have yet to experience snow - something on my bucket list. Where I live it is either very hot or just raining.

Good morning all! Happy Friday! Doing the Friday dance, here. Most of my families have today off from work, but because I didn't request today off, I have all of the kids. Yea (and boo). lol I heard from DD yesterday, that Joaquin has strep! Ugh! That poor kid! It seems he catches every germ carried by every other child at daycare! So...started antibiotic last night. He is getting so big! He is very close to walking. He walks behind a couple of different "push" toys, and walks along hanging onto various pieces of furniture or window ledges. He is OBSESSED with dogs and has added that word "dog" to his vocabulary. His favorite book is about dogs. I asked DD what Joaquin's favorite food is and she said pasta alfredo. She makes his daycare meals at home and the ladies at the center tell her that they can't wait to see what he is going to be eating each day. He is the most "adventurous" eater. While the other kids are eating pb and j or cheese and crackers nearly every day, he is eating leftovers like chicken and alfredo pasta, pot roast, chili, brisket, broccoli, peas, green beans (he loves veggies). lol I am so glad he is a good eater. Makes life easier. Miss that boy!
Janet - hugs to you on the news of your friend and neighbor.
Allie- More hugs to you as you navigate the storms of family life. I truly think family tries our patience and sanity more than strangers.
Machka- oh my dear friend! It hurts my heart that you are dealing with this on your own. PLEASE, contact a friend or family member for help, or at the very least; use any one of us in personal message (or all of us on this thread) as a sounding board/venting place to just help alleviate the worry and stress and maybe help brainstorm/plan the next steps. We are here for you! Keeping you and your DH in my prayers!
Penny- It is funny that you mentioned Svalbard not being on a map. Just yesterday the kids were watching a science show and they were talking about how it is dark, much of the year (they were talking of Barrow, Alaska). I told them about you and where you are from and they wanted to see where it is on our map....guess what?! It looks like they placed the map name and maker right over your area! lol I told the kids, "I think where my friend lives is under this square!" They looked at me like I was crazy!
Well, I received my grant money for my childcare yesterday. Needless to say, I will be planning and picking out some paint colors this weekend. I am very excited! I am sure I can stretch this by using materials I already have at my house (repurposing furniture and storage). It will just take some time and elbow grease. My main job for this weekend will be to get my thatch rake out and start working on the yard. Right now it looks like a giant rabbit's nest. That will be my workout for the weekend.

Allie - I am so sorry you are catching it from all sides. I hope you stood up to your brother and said no to staying with Faith. I know you love to help people, but please take care of yourself and let yourself rest. Big hugs!
Becca - Congrats on getting your new home! How very exciting to have a dream coming together!
Katla - I hope Arrow behaves better for you tomorrow. Perhaps he has extra energy from being alone so much lately?
Trish - Yeah for getting in your steps!
Kylia - I hope things calm down for you soon!
Michelle - Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy the soda with the rain check than to keep making trips to the Dollar store just to see if they have it in?
Barbie - So glad Jake is doing well and even happier that you can stop changing the sheets every other day!
Janet - I am so sorry about your friend. Prayers said for her and for you too. Congrats on the store and the new great grand baby! She is a beauty!
Machka - Prayers continue for your hub, yourself and the staff treating him. Thank you for checking in. While it is true that we would love to hear good news, even more than that we want to know that you are doing as well as can be expected. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with all this. I know you had a lot of events coming up so I know that is adding to your stress even more. Big hugs!
Penny - Have a fantastic time with your grands! I love the snow pictures!!
Lisa - Safe Travels!
Heather - I never would have thought of a clicker, I would have just been checking the distance on my watch to see if I was approaching my goal.
KJ - Yeah for getting the grant money! I know you will do more with it than we can imagine.
About me, the scale was up this morning, which was expected. It is TTOM so I figured it would be up. It will go back down, probably in two weeks, sigh. I am within my maintenance range of 5 lbs, but I really want to get to the bottom of the range so I can say I hit my goal. I know maintaining one static number is impossible, so I set a range of 5 lbs.
I am feeling pretty good this morning. I am going to get my steps in and then clean up and go to the grocery store. I have been starving for the last week so tonight we are having baked potatoes with BBQ rib meat that I had in the freezer. My neighbor brought me over a rack of ribs a while ago because he knows his ribs are one of my favorite foods ever. We weren't going to be home so I pulled all the meat off the bones and froze it. Tonight it will be heated up and added to my (very small) baked potato! I can't wait!! I think I might steam some broccoli to go with it so I feel less indulgent over the meal .
Have a great day ladies!

Machka It's agony to be in limbo while your husband slowly heals. I'm so sorry. Ditto what others have said.
Penny Love the lace edging. And the fancy shovel.
KJ Yay! for grant money and new paint!
Joyce You can make a will without spending money. While it's better if you have a lawyer draw one up, you can download forms and make your own. It would be better than no will at all. Maybe if you found out how much it would cost to have a will made, Charlie would be more likely to get it done. I'm guessing about $400 in Indiana. Here is a link to forms:

Hello Friends, I have the next 4 days off and am grateful for the mental break. I start my April "shredding" project today (a day early) cause Spring Fever has officially hit and I'm gonna ride that wave! Cleaning up, puttering and tallying up my finances for the month while enjoying a big ol' pot of coffee.
Strength and peace to all those facing challenges

Allie not your job to pressure son he is over 21. The home is in limbo. Who would he pay rent to. It also sounds like the home because of the reverse mortgage is going to be taken by the bank and his creditors. Then your son will be forced to take action.
Allie if there is no money coming from your dad's estate just let the bank take care of it. You have no need to hire a probate lawyer if there is no money. You are not responsible for your dad's debts no matter what his creditors tell you. There is no reason to put this on your shoulders. You have already had enough!
I like what our therapist said you try to teach your child about a stove Hot, hot, hot...OWWWWWW!!!! Unfortunately so true of many life's hazards.
Janetr prayers for your neighbor.
((M is OZ)) having gone through cancer with DH and a chronic illness with DS#1. He is the hospital again with his condition. I acknowledge I am in trauma brain. Next I go about my life as normally as I am able and can control . I also do the things that give me strength like singing, (we are singing a gorgeous cantata for Good Friday), going to the flower shows, walking with friends, and painting. I also send prayers and thoughts of love surrounding DS#1 and visit him when possible.
Penny pictures are so calming and peaceful. Thank you!
I had a great time at the flower show yesterday with a friend. We ate at the Good Earth restaurant. A wonderful treat overall.

Machka, I will be praying for you and your husband.
Penny, the curtain edgings are beautiful. I'm currently making a doily for my daughter's nightstand in her new home. I love to crochet blankets and give them away. I'll post a picture of my most recent crochet centerpiece. It was a gift for a friend who made me a beautiful yarn bowl.
I'm terrible with names but I will go back through this morning's posts and make a prayer list. I believe in the power of prayer.
You all have a wonderful day. We start moving my daughter today and I've got to get everything ready for Easter. My kids, grandkids, brother-in-law & his sweetheart will all be here for lunch after church Sunday. Back later, I hope. Grace from Texas

Hi all. I am still here, working on my second good day. For those of you who celebrate Easter, may you be blessed. For everyone else, have a wonderful weekend.
I may not be back til Monday; having company for the weekend. Otherwise it's all mostly going well. Take care! meg from Omaha9 -

Allie - I echo Margaret, you do not have to do anything. Just look after yourself and let everybody else look after themselves. She is right about your father's debts. It is not your responsibility. Let the creditors fight amonst tgemselves for the dregs. Faith is not your responsibility. Your son is an adult. Your brother can keep his ÷×+# to himself.
You have a great life to look forward to. You can stretch your wings and be your own person. You owe nothing to anyone. You have done more than enough for everyone else.

This is my blurb
London in the 1950s. A 'normal' family. A child who should have been happy and carefree.
In ME I AM author, playwright and theatre director Heather Eyles champions the child she was in a life fractured by sexual abuse. She vividly conjures up the resilient spirit and eager curiosity that survived despite her father's betrayal of her innocence.
From Children's Favourites on the wireless and Dairylea Triangles on the tea table to confusing compulsions and rituals before bed time, this is an absorbing and poignant story of a young girl's search for her own identity in a world of deep, secret shadows, but also some bright lights.

Janetr OKC: Sending good thoughts and prayers for your friend, Joyce.
(((Allie)))
(((Machka))): Waiting is so hard. I hope for the best for your DH.
Heather: The blurb is fabulous. It will give readers enough information to make an informed choice. I admire your gift with words, honesty & the courage to share the story.
Yoga this morning and the stable this afternoon. My teacher has laid out how to deal with Arrow, and his owner has given the same advice this morning. I'm feeling more confident thanks to them both.

Good morning friends. Dealing with headache from being dehydrated but doing chores slowly.
Heather- wonderful blurb. Excited for you to be so close to finishing the book.
Machka- still lifting you and your DH up in prayer. Take care of yourself as you will have to be the strong one for awhile.
Janetr- so sorry to hear of your friends diagnosis. They are able to do wonderful medical procedures these days. Tell her to stay positive and do what you how doctors tell her.
Allie- I don’t know a lot about legal issues but I know you are the kind of person everyone leans on for everything. At some point you will have to get out of your comfort zone and say NO sorry that doesn’t work for me.
Penny- love the snow picture s but I am a southern girl so couldn’t deal with it. We will be in Norway in July on our Baltic cruise. We’ve been to
all the stops except Finland and we are going to Moscow (hopefully).
Any suggestions on how to get hydrated without an iv. Water tastes awful right now but I need liquid. My eyes are so dry Kathryn don’t want to open.
Grace- your handwork is beautiful.

Heather - that is great! Instantly makes a person curious about the child's "resilient spirit and eager curiosity" and how they manage to survive and become successful despite the abuse.
Allie - (((HUGS)))) you have so much going on right now. Your situation reminds me a little of when my folks passed and my sis was the executor. Sis was pushing to keep their farm house and land and rent it out. My brother and I considered it but in the end decided it would be more hassle than it was worth - we'd still be on the hook for the mortgage, taxes, insurance, any home repairs (plumber, etc.) and dad had let the house "go" so there would be cost in getting it ready to even rent out. My brother once had rental units he couldn't get rid of fast enough when he realized all of that time and expense he couldn't keep up with. Not to mention renters who didn't pay rent.
And I'd be liable for Indiana income tax for any capital gains or losses. Way too complicated and the unknown expenses we'd have to keep up with in addition to the overhead on our own home (which needed fixing we could barely afford!) just didn't make it practical so we decided to just sell it all and be done with it. Luckily there was enough $$ left in dad's estate to hire the probate attorney and we kids did have a little to divide when it was all settled.
Janet - I am so sorry to hear about your friend Joyce. Prayers sent up. Hoping the involvement in the craft store will keep her enthused and positive throughout this challenge.
Sue - glad you are over the worse of it.... do you think you could sip down Gatorade?
Machka (((HUGS))) Sounds like the docs have your DH's situation under control but the waiting is the worst.
Becca - So glad you have your older sis to bounce things off of! And so excited for you moving to your new digs... no more elk but didn't your son say there was a deer?
I didn't realize hoarders were so pervasive.... in a way I feel good that our collection is mostly clutter, which is bad enough but fairly easy to dispose of or get stored away.
That's it for now ladies....sun is shining!
Happy Good Friday!

Ladies, I thought I posted yesterday but it must have gone into the ether somewhere.
Allie sorry you have having a hard time with relatives when you should be enjoying your liberation.
Machka I am sending you prayers and good thoughts across the oceans.
Janet I am sorry about your friend.
Hugs to Felicia
Joyce I am sorry about YOUR friend as well. My recent experience with wills is that we had three sessions with a lawyer and the total cost for wills, powers of attorney and health care proxies came to 1000 dollars. It might be cheaper in your state. It was worth every dollar to finally have it over with. It is easier on the surviving spouse if everything is in both names.
Update on me: I am on meds and in therapy. I am learning there is a lot I need to learn about myself as I enter this next phase of living. I am totally committed to this journey and have a great therapist. I am slowly learning to take care of myself first and not stress out. I had a lot of loss and change in the past 10 months and I thought I was coping but in the past month it all caught up with me. I need to learn the warning signs a lot earlier. I will be fine even if I still have some bad days. I am planning to become one of the wisest, calmest old ladies on the planet. I wore a butterfly necklace today as a symbol of my upcoming transformation.

Suebdew - In Mexico with Montezuma's Revenge I managed to sip down those rehydration sachets. Yukky, but important. It can take some time before all your electrolytes get back to normal.
Sending love to those with good friends and family who are suffering. Janetr and others. It reminded me to get in touch with my cancer friend.
Betty - It will get better. Sending hugs.
It's been raining all day. I did my bonus exercise on the kettlebell and the recumbent bike. Would have liked to go running, but it was not to be. I taped up my knee and it certainly made a difference. I love the kettlebell, but my knee doesn't.

wow! I am finally caught up. It has been another month of stress and crazy. But I am not giving up. Thanks for the advice on changing passwords. I have done that for here and facebook. I friend texted me last evening wanting to know if I sent her a strange message. She sent me a copy and told her no. So got that change.
On the subject of photos. I love taking pictures and DH's uncle years ago showed me that he had labeled his albums with dates and subjects. So I have done that with mine. I tell my children when I go in the home make sure all my albums come with me and I will spent my time looking at the pictures and not realize no one visits.
Machka--So sorry to hear about your DH. Keeping you both in prayer. Don't forget to take care of yourself and that we are here for you anytime.
Allie--I am so glad that divorce is done and I agree with most the ladies on here about your dad's home and stuff. When my DFIL passed away it was a mess as he pasted sitting in his chair and was only 60. He lived alone in his house and saved so many things that didn't make sense. DH being the oldest was left in charge. We went thru the house and got out what was valueable to us and let the state deal with the house and the rest. Sent a copy of the death cerfiticate to everyone that sent a bill as there was no money or insurance. It was funny as he owed some back taxes and for at least the next tens years we would get a call around tax time to see if his status had changed.
Janetr--So sorry about your friend. Pray that God will give comfort and peace to both of you. Good luck with the opening of your part of the gift store. I bet that you will be surprised at how much people are going to like and buy your crafts.
Barbie and Becca--Glad to hear your DH's are doing well. Excited about your move Becca and looking forward to pictures.
Heather--I agree you are very talented writer.
Well I am done in for today and I work all weekend. Then Sunday evening when I get off we are going to Lincoln as my friend since I was 14 years old had a stroke Feb 2nd and she is strong enough that they are going to do surgery to clean out the veins in her neck and there is areal good chance she will not make it or could stroke out. It has been humbling to visit her as she has trouble with her memory and getting out what she wants to say. Any way she has to be at the hospital by 530 am and I told her I would be there. Since the day of the stroke she knows who I am, but not family members.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE8
