Silly question

This is a silly question so please bare with me. Can I tone up while eating 260 calories of ice cream daily if the rest of my diet is clean, I eat 1g protein/pound and weightlift 4 times a week while eating at maintenance?
I love ice cream and fit it into my CICO as I walk a long distance to work which buys me the additional calories. Just wondering if I have to eat really clean to tone up.

So you're trying to recomp at maintenance calories and asking if you can eat ice cream? If you're training properly with a progressive overload and getting adequate protein, yes.
What is eating clean? Just, no.15 -

Thanks. I joined in 2018 so just learning my way through. Lost about 18 pounds and now I am skinny fat and need to focus on recomp.
I have always heard about Uber fit people (i.e the rock) getting cut by never eating candy, pastries, ice cream, etc so I have been curious if I need to become that crazy to be toned. I have cleaned up my diet - no eating out, limited salt, limited white carbs, tons of fruits, etc but ice cream is the love of my food life and I can’t give it up.
Glad to hear that I don’t have to.

I've never heard that about the Rock. You know he can eat a crap ton of calories per day. I doubt they're all in vegetables and lean meats.
Eat a balanced, nutrient dense diet that is sustainable to you. That might mean NOT eating ice cream every day if it's getting in the way of meeting your macros and micros, but it's also doable.
Not to toot my own horn, but I think I'm relatively fit/lean. I eat out, eat tons of salt, enjoy a pasty or so once per week. I actually don't eat much fruit because I'd rather not take my carbs in that way. Sustainable for me. And it works.13 -
If I had to eat all my calories in "clean" foods I'd be bloated and feeling awful. I consider myself pretty fit, cut, lean etc.. and I enjoy my fair share of ice cream (pretty much everyday, whether i'm bulking, cutting, maintaining) but the portion sizes vary depending on how many calories I have.15

Ice cream is just a food, it has calories and nutrition.
Whatever makes up the remainder of your diet also has calories and nutrition.
As long as you have an overall healthy diet in terms of overall calories and nutrition what impact does any single food have?
Really don't get why you would exclude foods based on their colour! If something tastes good and has a good nutritional profile why does the colour matter?
It's great that you have improved your diet but you don't need to be obsessive and restrictive about it, you are allowed to enjoy your food - it's so much more than just fuel.
Here's what some "uber fit" people eat.....

I see someone doesn't follow the Rock on insta. His cheat meals are truly epic and anything but clean.4

Of course you can eat ice cream and still tone up. Its about fitting it into your daily maintenance calories.
The 'toning up' happens when you lift heavy things0 -
Whenever you are tempted to stress about any food, think about it like this: would you stress about the effect of milk, grass-fed butter, and dried fruits on toning up? That's analogous to dairy cream, dairy fat, and sugar. Ice cream is not nutritionally vacant. It can be high in calories because it's high in fat, but if you control for that with appropriate portions there shouldn't be a problem.4

Carbs, carbs, carbs and more carbs...I love it!!!
Except that I would need to be WAY more active for this to work for me

You do know these guys arent fit right? Ask them to lift, ask them to go for a run... will they do well? Nope. Different muscles and different idea of fit
Well I guess you could interpret fitness as being fit for a particular sport and apply that to darts players or sumo wrestlers and make a case they are ultra fit.......... Hmmm.

IF you want to look like the rock, you've got to roid like the rock. And yes, when cutting that last few % of BF to look like that for 10 seconds of screen time, what you eat matters.3 -
OP - eat ice cream. But here’s what saved my life....protein ice cream fluff. A giant bowl is 120 cals and there are endless flavors limited only by your imagination.4

Okay ... just googled Protein Fluff ... I gotta go!2

I see someone doesn't follow the Rock on insta. His cheat meals are truly epic and anything but clean.
538 estimated that he spends around $1262 a month on food, eats over 5k calories a day over seven meals, and works out for two and a half hours a day six days a week. Being The Rock sounds exhausting, even with the team of professionals who work with him to get all this done.
Long story short: there's a lot of space between "couch potato" and "The Rock." If your goal is to "tone up" you're going to be fine eating some ice cream.6 -

Watched an interview with him somewhere and they showed his trailer that he takes on film shoots with all his fitness equipment in it. So a full sized semi trailer for a gym. Was pretty impressive.6 -
I don't know where OP lives but I've been living life especially well this week since the introduction of Blue Bell's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Dough ice cream.6

The Rock eats like a gazillion calories per day...I can guarantee you that they're not all "clean" and whatnot. I'd be bloated as all hell.
Beyond that, he's an elite level of leanness...and yes, to maintain that the average person will probably have to be pretty strict with things...but that's a pretty elite body composition. I know plenty of people who are lean and fit and well defined and go about their normal lives who look fantastic, but are by no means in the territory of elite body aesthetics.
ETA: I do know a couple of people who are physique competitors...they eat really well, but training is also basically their life, especially in season. They don't maintain competition physiques year around though because it's really frigin' hard and you pretty much have to dedicate everything to it.3 -

I also wonder if the Rock juices? When I say "juices" not in a blender. If he does, he could eat a gillion calories a day! He also has how many extra pounds of lean mass? wow!

Yup. Halo top. Awesome.0

I don't care to answer the question, but its inspired me to eat ice cream immediately.4
-
I have eaten a quarter cup of ice cream almost every day since I've been on MFP - almost six years. It is my fourth meal and the fat keeps me from getting hungry.1
-
This digression about the Rock inspired me to watch the new Jumanji movie last night. It was actually pretty funny, but why do movies all have to be so long these days? Anyhow, my husband and I decided that the ideal male form for the average person to aspire to is something halfway between the Rock and Jack Black. So you don't have to be the Rock and eat no ice cream, but you shouldn't be Jack Black and eat all the ice cream, either. Moderation!8

I haven’t noticed any. It beats Arctic whatever hands down. Yasso frozen yogurt pops are also really good! Just call me an addict. And I think the halo top cal counts are pretty accurate0 -

I tried Halo Top and I liked the sea salt caramel, though I thought it was screaming for pecans, but I didn't care for the price and thought it was almost as good, but not quite. I can make some regular ice cream fit, have a lot more variety and while the servings are smaller, I pay a whole lot less per serving. And real ice cream tastes better; Halo Top is pretty good, but not quite the same.0
