I've been gone for awhile, but I am back! Been in Virginia for almost a month; my son was in the hospital for 21 days, so that meant that I, too, was in the hospital 21 days! After he came home, I stayed with him a couple of days just to make sure he wasn't going right back! I give God all of the praise for seeing him through; his spleen ruptured, and he almost bled to death! I went a little haywire while I was there, and the scale tells the story! But, that's history; today is a new day, and I'm ready to start over again! HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY MORNING!

It seems that quite a few of us are battling water retention. It can be frustrating, especially when there is nothing you can pin it to. Even if you can pinpoint the reason, please give fresh parsley a try. I always choose fresh lemon juice, but 30+ years ago, I would always use fresh parsley in my salads. I never retained fluid. I'm going to give it a try again and this time use parsley tea also. Give it squeeze of lemon juice too.8

4/18 = 200.4 (-1.6). WHOOSH™. Day 2 of Keto was again just fine. 21 net carbs, slightly under protein goal, slightly over in calories. Generally feeling okay so far. Yesterday was better than the day before. My wife is going to a training for 2 days, so I get to live the bachelor life until Thursday night.
4/19 = 199.2 (-1.2). WHOOSH again!!! Day 3 of Keto went pretty well, even after having half a banana early in the morning (40% of my daily carbs). I was right on target with my macros. I'm enjoying the scale, but I think this is pretty normal for Keto (not 100% sure). SL 5x5 and basketball tonight. I'll be interested to see what my energy level is like at this point.
4/20 = 196.8 (-2.4). Another WHOOSH™!!! I'm about 6 points away from my lowest weight in 25 years. Keto Day 4 was great! I had berries and whipped heavy cream for dessert last night, a little bit of dark chocolate during the day, and was still under calories. I am recognizing the need to be a little careful about indulging sweets. I was a little high in protein, but other macros were on point. 5.2 lbs in 3 days. Is this normal Keto stuff? I'm not complaining, but I didn't expect things to be moving so quickly.
4/21 = 196.0 (-0.8). I'm going to stop naming whatever this is for right now. No I'm not. Any other day this would be a WHOOSH™, so that's what it is. I'm 1 lb away from what I labeled my Ultimate Goal Weight, but that's so clearly not where I'm going to stop that I'm changing it right now. I want to be under 190 (at least). For the first time, maybe ever, I'm not afraid of the weekend. Thanks Keto! And thanks for the funny weight loss streak too! Keto is really working for me; I've been tested numerous times with sweets so far, and they don't motivate me more than reaching my goal does! Good luck to everyone this weekend!
4/22 = 196.2 (+0.2). This may sound weird, but I'm happy to have a day without a loss; I was a little worried my streak would never end. Things are still going well with Keto Day 6. I was out with friends for lunch (they had dessert), had dinner with parents (had to make my own food at their house), and it wasn't hard to stick with my plan. I'm working most of the day today, and there's a dinner tonight for my brother-in-law's birthday. I'll find something I can eat at the Italian restaurant were going to.
4/23 = 197.0 (+0.8). I've definitely come back to Earth regarding the rapid initial loss from Keto, and I'm glad. I ate out at a family-style Italian restaurant for my brother-in-law's birthday. I got a little bit of gentle teasing from my sister-in-law, but stuck to plan for the most part (half a bite of mango mousse cheesecake, and a tiny sip of 3 different drinks). Regardless, gaining 1 lb over the weekend is a good result for just about any weekend. The bad news is that my lower back had been killing me since Friday. Lucky for me I'm so busy this week that I couldn't have played basketball even if I wanted to. I need to visit my chiro. My weight is likely stuck because of my back; it's hard to #2 when it hurts to flex my abs or lower back muscles. Sorry for the TMI! I'm happy if I can just maintain through the end of this challenge.
4/24 = 196.0 (-1.0). BOUNCE BACK™. I'm at Keto Day 8, and it's still working out pretty well. Hit my macros right on the head, and I'm starting to incorporate more leafy greens and healthy stuff into my diet. Until now the only healthy thing I've been ingesting consistently has been avocado. I've been a little funky regarding sweets; I'm making sure that, if I have some carbs left at the end of the day, I'm using them, and I'm using them on dark chocolate or blackberries and heavy whipped cream. I'm not sure if this is good, okay, or really bad. My back is killing me. I know I shouldn't be at work, but there's a goodbye lunch for one of my co-workers, and I'm going to try to make it until then (2 hours away at the time of writing this). When that's over, it's off to Urgent Care (to get the appropriate meds), then home for the afternoon and likely all day tomorrow to rest, ice, and hopefully recover. I'm hoping this pain is relatively short-term (it always has been), and that I can get back to the gym/basketball next week (even if it's at a reduced intensity).

So after vacation, SO home for 6 weeks, not keeping up with JGM10 and super busy and stressful at work. I'm up a few pounds. Some will be water weight and drop off rather quick (I hope). Goals to meal prep, stay around 1500 calories and 15,000+ daily steps.

@puddlegoober I limit my berries to twice a week or less and that is the only fruit I eat. I choose 4 large strawberries, 5 or 6 large blackberries, or 1/4c or less blueberries. I whip about 2T heavy cream and add a little non-sugar sweetener.3

@quiltingjaine Thank you for sharing! I did strict keto 2 years ago - I lost fast and hard, but could not maintain. However, I did learn some invaluable lessons about what works and what does not for me. I've adapted to a moderate carb lifestyle, keeping at or below 150g, and shooting for 100g daily. Good quality fats play a much bigger roll in my diet now. I definitely jumped on the bandwagon trying the "light ice cream" but it reminded me that I do better on REAL food. Keto had me switch to grass fed and pasture raised meats and cheeses and eggs. I shop way more locally now. And most importantly, although it did not work for me to maintain, it gave me the tools to move in a positive direction My stepdad started a keto type diet around a year ago, the Gundry Diet, and he is thriving.5

Since June of last year, the scale has crept up to my current weight. With a trip to the Bahamas about 4-1/2 weeks away, I need to get moving! I have been exercising for the last month or so, but my food choices are still horrible. Hoping to see some significant progress so I don't have to buy new clothes!
Not used to the daily weighing, so we'll see how that goes. Saturday mornings are my usual weigh-in day, so I will be using that as my CW in my replies.

Hi @AngieW952 & welcome to a *most* friendly & supportive group!
I feel your pain! I know it’s frustrating regarding internet and BMR, not to mention protein recommendations LOL! But then, again, it IS the Internet!!!
So, what I decided to do is track calories eaten & exercise calories (Active Energy) plus Resting Energy via my Apple Watch. Then I can calculate my deficit & see how it compares to my weight loss. I should be able to calculate my BMR from this over time (if my Watch doesn’t beat me to it) LOL.
So far, over the 50 days or so, I’ve lost more than I should have. So, either I burn more calories than my watch thinks or I’m overcountjng what I eat (Very unlikely) or I’m taller than I think (not) or younger than I am (I wish!) or my metabolism has increased (I can only hope!!!)
But, it’s kind of fun to try to figure out our own BMR - at least I think so.

I don't have cravings, but for the past 3 days I've wanted peanut butter. Sunday I made keto pb cookies. I included them in my meal plan so that I wouldn't go crazy on calories. 2 TB of peanut butter and 2 pb cookies, which is 2 more TB of peanut butter.
Yesterday, I still want pb. I ate 1 TB pb and 1 cookie. Today, 3TB peanut butter and 2 cookies. That's a binge! I didn't go over maintenance calories, but gee! I hope this is the end of this craving. What I think it's all about is just needing more calories or needing more potassium.
I don't want carbs. I have brownies, which I made for husband and son, sitting in my face all day. Bread and rolls in the house for them also. I think I'll increase my potassium and see if that solves the issue.8 -

10 Day Goal: I'm going through some personal stuff right now and trying not to comfort eat. My water intake has improved greatly over the past few rounds and my coffee consumption is down to 1 cup a day. Exercise is still difficult so increasing it is my next goal.
