@Teresa502 - It was pouring and windy when we arrived and Saturday was wet in the morning but then it got pretty nice. Sunday for graduation was in the mid 80's and today high 70's. I was happy and excited to run in the rain (California thing you know ? :) ) but even today was nice despite the humidity.
@_nikkiwolf_ - Thanks for the tip. My DH did have shaving cream so I could have used it. I will remember it for the next time for sure.

I am always excited to run in the rain. In fact I get disappointed when it seems like it will rain but never does.

I am counting today as 3. My running intervals only lasted till about 2.25, but I still had to walk home. I am fairly certain I had a physical manifestation of negative thoughts. But my ankle protested badly, and so I aborted the running bit to stay on the safe side.

It also still fascinates me how different a “good” diet is for mostly running vs mostly lifting. Food today would have fueled a lifting day nicely. I think it was poor fuel for running.

    ETA- 3 today = 20.5/30

Tonight's group speedwork was 2 minute intervals x 6 with 1 minute recovery between. I forgot to restart my watch for the sprints at the end so I only got "credit" for 1 out of the 4. Hate that! Ah well.

Beautiful night but a bit humid. We had a nice treat of popsicles after which really hit the spot.

I'm not sure if anyone in here listens to My Favorite Murder but there is a virtual 5K formed by fellow fans. A portion of the fee goes to End the Backlog, which is a really great cause founded by SVU's Mariska Hargitay. The theme is This is terrible... keep going which was said on the show but really does apply to running as well. :D

If you get the FOMO package you also get the SSDGM shirt from last 5k.

    that's one LONG drive @kristinegift !!!

when planning that sort of drive how do you work your stops? Last year I drove up to the island of Mull, which was a mere 330 miles, and I planned stops every 100 miles. I gave myself about 20 minutes at each stop, and made sure I walked about (hard to plan runs round gas stations here). Later I realised that I should have done stops based on time rather than miles.

On the way back, as I'd barely slept and was concerned about some weaving I did early on in the drive back, I made myself stop every 1 and a half hours, push my seat back, and sleep for 20 minutes. That got me and every one else on the roads home alive.

Good Luck @kristinegift. I admire your dedication. I know my family wouldn't support me running a mile at every stop. Consider yourself blessed.

Beautiful pictures @ROBOTFOOD. Tushars looks like a very nice place for a HM in August. And that is a huge mileage goal for this month. I'm sure you're up for it, but that sounds crazy to us mortals. Good luck.

I usually look for state parks or green spaces on the map and plan my stops based on that because that usually guarantees a good space to run. I love making running pit stops on long drives!

Good luck on your long drive @kristinegift. What part of Iowa? I feel like it's kind of a hard drive if you are taking I-80 much of the way to see places you might be able to run. Probably need to plan ahead to get off the interstate for some parks or something? Cleveland and Chicago would have fun places to run but take some chunks of time and diversion from your route. I'll be curious to hear how you make out! I am headed to the Iowa City area in a few weeks - but flying. I swore to never do that drive again a few years ago.

@kristinegift @katharmonic I live in SW Iowa and am a former DSM resident. I couldn't tell you much about places to run in eastern Iowa, but can offer some suggestions in central or southwest Iowa, depending on if you are looking for dirt trails or if you prefer paved. If you are anywhere in central Iowa, there is an ever-expanding network of trails (mostly paved). Here in SW Iowa, there are a couple of good trails... the best is the Wabash Trace (mostly wood-chip). Council Bluffs has trails that hook into the Omaha trail system via the Kerry Pedestrian Bridge. And if you really want to stay close to I-80, stop off at exit 63 (north of Atlantic) and there is a trailhead maybe 1/8 mile from the interstate. That is a mostly paved trail. These are all mostly multi-use (bikes, runners, walkers).

Anyway, if you are going to be in any of the 1/4 to 1/2 of Iowa that I'm most familiar with, let me know if you want any ideas for locations.

5/1 - 5 mile group speed/track workout, then upper body weights / abs.
    5/2 - Overslept...unplanned rest day.
    5/3 - 4 treadmill miles. Trek Class.
    5/4 - Nada. Again.
    5/5 - 4.75 mile group run.
5/6 - Baseball tournament and yard work.
    5/7 - 5.25 miles.
    5/8 - 4.5 miles.
5/9 - 3.5 treadmill miles, then upper body weights.
    5/10 - 5 miles. Beautiful morning for a run.
5/11 - Pre Relay rest day.
    5/12 - Market to Market Relay. Leg 4 - 4.88 miles, Leg 11 - 4.02 miles, Leg 18 / team finish - 4.13 miles.
    5/13 - Mothers' Day!
    5/14 - Unplanned rest day.
    5/15 - 5 miles.
5/16 - 3.17 miles. Shorter than planned due to too many snooze bar hits.
5/17 - 5 treadmill miles / Trek Class, then upper body weights and abs.
5/18 to 5/21 - Family illness + baseball tournament + well-child visits for kids = no exercise and bad diet. Ugh!
5/22 - 4.8 miles. Muggy out, but nice run.

63/120 (no way will I hit this now)

Glad to see you all are doing pretty well. I will try to do some reading about what you've been up to later today.

@Orphia if I had rain more often I probably wouldn't be quite as excited. I get maybe 1 run per year in the rain.

    5/1/18 2 miles
    5/2/18 1.8 miles
    5/3/18 1.85 miles
    5/4/18 2 miles
    5/5/18 2 miles
    5/6/18 6 miles

    5/7/18 rest
    5/8/18 2.35 miles
    5/9/18 2.15 miles
    5/10/18 2 miles
    5/11/18 rest
    5/12/18 2.15 miles
    5/13/18 7 miles

    5/14/18 2 miles
    5/15/18 2.1 miles
    5/16/18 1.9 miles
    5/17/18 1.95 miles
    5/18/18 2.01 miles
    5/19/18 2.05 miles
    5/20/18 6.55 miles

    5/21/18 rest
    5/22/18 3.05 miles

    Total 52.91 miles

Woo! Met my minimum of 50 miles! With 8 days of running left in the month and a long run of 8 miles I may hit the high end of 75! I had a fast finish run this morning and I think those are my favorite. I settled into a decent zone 2 for the most and then got to step it up for the last 12 minutes. Much easier to pick it up rather than try to get back to zone 1. Lol
