@Teresa502 - It was pouring and windy when we arrived and Saturday was wet in the morning but then it got pretty nice. Sunday for graduation was in the mid 80's and today high 70's. I was happy and excited to run in the rain (California thing you know ? ) but even today was nice despite the humidity.
@_nikkiwolf_ - Thanks for the tip. My DH did have shaving cream so I could have used it. I will remember it for the next time for sure.
I am always excited to run in the rain. In fact I get disappointed when it seems like it will rain but never does.3 -
I am counting today as 3. My running intervals only lasted till about 2.25, but I still had to walk home. I am fairly certain I had a physical manifestation of negative thoughts. But my ankle protested badly, and so I aborted the running bit to stay on the safe side.
It also still fascinates me how different a “good” diet is for mostly running vs mostly lifting. Food today would have fueled a lifting day nicely. I think it was poor fuel for running.
ETA- 3 today = 20.5/304 -

Tonight's group speedwork was 2 minute intervals x 6 with 1 minute recovery between. I forgot to restart my watch for the sprints at the end so I only got "credit" for 1 out of the 4. Hate that! Ah well.
Beautiful night but a bit humid. We had a nice treat of popsicles after which really hit the spot.

I'm not sure if anyone in here listens to My Favorite Murder but there is a virtual 5K formed by fellow fans. A portion of the fee goes to End the Backlog, which is a really great cause founded by SVU's Mariska Hargitay. The theme is This is terrible... keep going which was said on the show but really does apply to running as well.

If you get the FOMO package you also get the SSDGM shirt from last 5k.1 -
Ran 5k - praying my knee feels okay tomorrow! I also ran some Saturday with my father-in-law but forgot to bring my phone so no idea how far. He's faster than I am and in his 70s.
I am soooooo sloowwwwww right now... almost 40 minutes. The very first time I finished 5k was faster than that. But happy to be running at all!

I don't mind it, and don't let it stop me getting out there, but I need to up my game and adopt your awesome attitude and look forward to it.

Hey! I recently returned to posting on mfp. I sure didn't stop running during that time though! Currently in a building phase with some speed thrown in here and there. One local trail 5k next month and a high altitude half marathon (basically mtn ascent). It's called Tushars. Start elevation: 10.5k ft, top is 12.2k ft. That is in August.
My weeks have been building after PRing my last HM earlier in the month (1:36).
27.5mi
50mi
55mi
This week so far: 14.6mi, target is 60ish. Increasing every week. For the May total, I'll go for 220mi.
Today: Morning hill repeats (16) 9.4mi with 5,033ft climb. Evening trail run with friends. 5.2mi with 700 climb.
Pics from this evening below.

Track Tuesday became Fartlek Tuesday today, per my running buddy's 50k training plan. But oh boy were my legs NOT ready for fast running yet after the mudfest trail 10k Sunday. Workout was super tough and the mile-long climb back to my house at the end of the route felt like climbing the side of a mountain.
Should have some interesting miles tomorrow though. Starting at 4 am, I am driving from New Jersey to my parents' place in Iowa to be there to celebrate my brother's high school graduation. It will be about 1050 miles (1690 km) and take about 17 hours (with stops). I am planning out rest breaks in each state (Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois) and run a mile when I do gas/bathroom/coffee during a 30 minute window. Wish me luck!!
5/1: 3.2 miles
5/2: 3 miles
5/3: 7 miles of Track Thursday
5/4: 5.4 miles
5/5: 12 miles
5/6: 3.6 miles + gym workout
5/7: 6 miles
5/8: 8 miles of Track Tuesday
5/9: Rest day
5/10: 6 miles
5/11: 3.2
5/12: Lazy day
5/13: Lazy weekend
5/14: 4 miles
5/15: 8 miles Track Tuesday
5/16: Lazy day
5/17: 10.2 miles
5/18: 5.3 miles
5/19: 3 miles
5/20: 2.2 + 6.2 race + 2.2 = 10.6
5/21: 3.2 miles
5/22: 7.5 miles of Fartlek Tuesday
Current: 109.3
Goal miles: 150
Upcoming Races:
5/20: Watershed Running Festival - Trail 10k - Pennington, NJ

that's one LONG drive @kristinegift !!!
when planning that sort of drive how do you work your stops? Last year I drove up to the island of Mull, which was a mere 330 miles, and I planned stops every 100 miles. I gave myself about 20 minutes at each stop, and made sure I walked about (hard to plan runs round gas stations here). Later I realised that I should have done stops based on time rather than miles.
On the way back, as I'd barely slept and was concerned about some weaving I did early on in the drive back, I made myself stop every 1 and a half hours, push my seat back, and sleep for 20 minutes. That got me and every one else on the roads home alive.4 -

Good Luck @kristinegift. I admire your dedication. I know my family wouldn't support me running a mile at every stop. Consider yourself blessed.
Beautiful pictures @ROBOTFOOD. Tushars looks like a very nice place for a HM in August. And that is a huge mileage goal for this month. I'm sure you're up for it, but that sounds crazy to us mortals. Good luck.1 -
Good to see you stop in @ROBOTFOOD ! Lovely pics and blazing PR's!1

I usually look for state parks or green spaces on the map and plan my stops based on that because that usually guarantees a good space to run. I love making running pit stops on long drives!1 -
Good luck on your long drive @kristinegift. What part of Iowa? I feel like it's kind of a hard drive if you are taking I-80 much of the way to see places you might be able to run. Probably need to plan ahead to get off the interstate for some parks or something? Cleveland and Chicago would have fun places to run but take some chunks of time and diversion from your route. I'll be curious to hear how you make out! I am headed to the Iowa City area in a few weeks - but flying. I swore to never do that drive again a few years ago.0

@kristinegift @katharmonic I live in SW Iowa and am a former DSM resident. I couldn't tell you much about places to run in eastern Iowa, but can offer some suggestions in central or southwest Iowa, depending on if you are looking for dirt trails or if you prefer paved. If you are anywhere in central Iowa, there is an ever-expanding network of trails (mostly paved). Here in SW Iowa, there are a couple of good trails... the best is the Wabash Trace (mostly wood-chip). Council Bluffs has trails that hook into the Omaha trail system via the Kerry Pedestrian Bridge. And if you really want to stay close to I-80, stop off at exit 63 (north of Atlantic) and there is a trailhead maybe 1/8 mile from the interstate. That is a mostly paved trail. These are all mostly multi-use (bikes, runners, walkers).
Anyway, if you are going to be in any of the 1/4 to 1/2 of Iowa that I'm most familiar with, let me know if you want any ideas for locations.1 -

I got out for a nice 3.2 miles this morning. It was a little humid but overall a nice day for a run. It was my first run since the HM so I decided that I wasn't going to pay attention to my pace or distance. I was just going to run for 30 - 40 minutes depending on how I felt. The first half mile felt a little stiff, but once I got going I felt really good. I played Zombies Run and just had a fun run. Then I came home and did some yoga.

5/15 - 5 miles.
5/16 - 3.17 miles. Shorter than planned due to too many snooze bar hits.

Glad to see you all are doing pretty well. I will try to do some reading about what you've been up to later today.4 -

5/21/18 rest
5/22/18 3.05 miles
Total 52.91 miles
Woo! Met my minimum of 50 miles! With 8 days of running left in the month and a long run of 8 miles I may hit the high end of 75! I had a fast finish run this morning and I think those are my favorite. I settled into a decent zone 2 for the most and then got to step it up for the last 12 minutes. Much easier to pick it up rather than try to get back to zone 1. Lol4
