Google knows too much about me!

I ran 5m on the treadmill yesterday. I always have Google Fit running in the background. It estimated the run (based on accelerometry alone) at 4.99mi. This means they have analyzed my stride from my outdoor runs and know it very accurately.

And, I never alert the app when I'm running, walking, or riding it just figures it out. (But, it counts the elliptical as riding). I don't know about you, but I think this is a little spooky!

@Teerai I use stitcher and you can go back all the way to episode one.

I have found even the first episodes on my iPhone podcasts- and I’m not very techs, so if I can find it, it is easy. Also, I wonder if the podcast people are wondering why there is a sudden spike in downloads of said show.

They just had a NYT article and just finished a tour. So they are probably getting a lot of traffic. Lol

I like that it feels I'm sitting down and talking with friends. Also they are open about their mental health issues and struggles with drugs and alcohol.

And yes I save their new episode for my long runs :D

Wanted to get an hour in this morning, so that ended up being 7 miles. Was hot and humid, but that goes without saying these days. In fact, I'm not going to say it again this summer. Just assume that until about middle of October. Other than that, felt pretty good. Had to slow myself down at times, but felt very comfortable. HR averaged only 123.

    MTD: 85/100

By August I am over summer so I'll pick up the complaining about the heat.

I did 5 yesterday and 3.6 today. You could add another .5 miles to this morning if you count me running around the house trying to smash the wasp that snuck in. *kitten*. Correction. Dead *kitten*.

    5/23/18 2.5 miles

    Total 55.41 miles

My average pace is down by about 2 minutes after 3 weeks. Crossing fingers and hoping I can get back to my peak performance times by the time September rolls around (official race deadline to drop down to half although I can decide day of since it's going down in distance). I need to shave off about 4 more minutes. Also hoping getting asthma meds helps me breathe and I can get some speed back that way too.

This morning I focused on fixing my form. I have a tendency to keep my head down. I twisted an ankle once on a glass on the sidewalk (it was dark so I couldn't see it from a distance) and have since always looked down. I reminded myself to run with my head up this morning. It was easy to slip back through.

I have fallen seriously behind on this thread as well. I have been popping in to try and keep up, but haven't had much time to comment and congratulate you all on your awesome achievements.

@7Lenny7- Sounds like a fabulous race. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll bet that Four Roses single barrel tasted good after that!!

@ROBOTFOOD - Welcome back. I finally made the connection for you between MFP and Strava...lol. Seriously awesome photo there. 700 ft climb in a half mile? Wow. I was complaining about the 200 ft climb in a half mile that I did on Sunday. Can't imagine!

Loved reading all of the race reports from the weekend! Congrats @kgirlhart on your AG win in your first half marathon. That's outstanding! Congrats also to @greyparks206 , @abutcher2122 , @sarahthes , @BruinsGal_91, @kristinegift , @Mobycarp and anyone else I may have missed on great races too!

@RunsOnEspresso I empathize with you, both with the asthma and the looking down while running. I can pretty much control my asthma with OTC Primatene. I run in the dark too, and have a tendency to look down after I tripped over a branch in the middle of the sidewalk last year. I have to continuously tell myself to look up and ahead, and low and behold, running feel easier every time I do that. It just takes a long time to break (and form) habits. Buy you (and me) will get there. Just have to keep at it.

@Scott6255 I used to have my asthma under control & not really need anything. I think allergies are just so bad right now too. I had advair years ago and it helped a lot so thinking that it could help again.

Overall my form isn't bad, just the head thing. And understandably for both of us. I think anyone who has tripped on something gets that feeling. Lol

As planned, I have been pretty lazy about logging many miles since my marathon. Aside from being very busy trying to get our family room re-do and lots of spring yard work finished before our big Memorial Day party this weekend, I have been trying to explore some local trails. On Sunday I went to a local park that has a 2ish mile loop that I had heard about but have never run. I was short on time, so I figured maybe I could get in two loops. Well, that didn't happen. Once I got to the park, it took me a while to even find the trails since there was no signage or markings outside of the woods. Once I finally meandered into the woods, I found a nice little single track trail that led down a steep incline to a creek. Once at the bottom, it really wasn't clear where I should go. There were no clearly marked trails and it seemed like every little trail I followed led to a dead end. I finally followed another trail back up the hill, which eventually led out of the woods and back into the park. I ended up doing this same routine of running (or make that walking/climbing) up and down the hill over and over in various places. Finally, after 25 minutes and 1.4 miles of this, I ended up where I started and decided to go back to my car and check out the map I had found online. When I compared it to my map on Strava, I realized that I wasn't anywhere even on the trail. I read some of the reviews of the trails and they largely consisted of complaints about poor markings and getting lost. There were some positive comments on the scenery, which I agreed with, but my frustration over shadowed that at this point. Since I had a busy day ahead, it was starting to get very hot and I had already chewed up a good chunk of time, I decided to just call it a day. I was disappointed because this park is pretty convenient to my house. Since a lot of others have told me they run there, I might give it another shot, but I am not sure.

This evening after work I intend to head out to a nature park close to where I work. Based on the website and trail reviews, it looks a lot more promising. There are six trails ranging from 1.5-7.5 miles, with one of them connecting into a 22 mile backpacking trail. I will let you know how it goes.

    5/19: 13.1 miles
    5/22: 3.2 miles
    5/23: 3.2 miles

    76/85 miles completed

Another 3.2 miles this morning. It was really nice. It was pretty humid, but I knew it would be. It does still kind of surprise me how much I can sweat on those humid runs. It has been getting light earlier and I really like that. I have a pretty good place to run if it is dark when I start, but I get kind of bored always running the same route.
Once again I played Zombies Run and just concentrated on enjoying the run and tried not to worry about my pace or distance. I came up with the same distance as yesterday, but my pace actually improved. I'm not really sure what my plan is since I am finished training for the half. For now I just want to run and enjoy it so tomorrow I will probably get out for about 40 minutes or so and just run. I should have a long run Sunday, but I will more than likely miss it. We will be out of town this weekend and it is my husband's birthday so I really don't plan to run.

Worse than tripping over something is hitting that small hole in the pavement and having that split second when you feel like you're on your way to a rolled ankle.

I dunno about where you are, but every day recently the pollen count has been either "high" or "very high" - been brutal on me.

Yes, down here in North Texas the pollen is bad. Most days after work the cars are all covered with what looks like a dusting of yellow snow. Yuck :/

Ran on the treadmill at the gym since we are under a heat advisory. I think I still managed to overdo it though. Feeling pretty dizzy and my heartrate is stuck in the high 80s (rhr is around 60). Thinking it is blood sugar related though. Once I get home (hubby is driving) I will drink something sugary and I should be fine.

    5/22 – 8.05 easy
    5/23 – 6.65 group run

May running total to date – 124.18

Nominal May mileage goal: 180 miles

Real goals: Stay healthy. Build base. Maybe run some trails. Have fun.

Today's notes – 75º F (24º C) and sunshine at 6 PM for the group run. The group this evening was small, and I hung back almost with them for 4 miles or so; the first 4 miles came in slower than I'd run solo, which was okay for the weather and very good for the first mile before my legs warmed up. Got to where I knew the way back, and it was a "pick your route" situation. I picked one of the longer ways back because I could tell the short way would come out to less than 6 miles.

The humidity wasn't bad, as early summer goes; and it was a very pleasant run. But I'm going to have to think about what I'm doing on Wednesdays for the summer. If this group stays this small, it could fold; and I'm likely to end up running solo a lot, which means I need to understand the route a bit better than I did today. Hmm. I have a couple other options I can consider.

In contrast to most on this thread, I had a run in the first really cold weather this season. Ok, ok, it was about 12 degrees C, so not really that cold, but still, it was definitely nippy at first.

My brother’s wedding was last weekend so with the travel and catching up some stuff at home, I’m behind with running. While I likely will not hit my goal, had an enjoyable run tonight on the trail during soccer practice. We’ll be at our camper this weekend so looking forward to getting in some miles by the lake.

    5/23 - 5 miles
    Total 38.5 miles run/70.5 goal
