Biggest dieting pet peeve

I think what bothers me most about the unsolicited “advice” I get from other overweight woman is that it’s not coming from a place of genuine concern or wanting to legitimately help. It’s a superiority complex. They secretly feel like they’re better then me because they aren’t AS fat. It’s their own insecurities peeking through. I don’t have time or patience for these stupid mind games. I just want to be left alone.
To add to that I went on a tour of my neighborhood Y a few days ago and the lady who gave me a tour kept making snide remarks about my weight the ENTIRE time . She asked me if I could walk down the stairs “okay” because she gets “nervous when the seniors walk down here” And I’m like ???????? Do I look like senior to you???? She kept asking me if I wanted to join her senior’s aerobics class. She says to me “we have a younger girl about your size *gestures with her arms and makes a wide shape* she keeps up pretty well, but she just needs to hold on to a chair*. That’s another thing! I am EXTREMELY mobile. It bugged the s%#* out of me that she assumed that I couldn’t keep up with a regular fitness class. I felt like telling her “Sis I workout pretty strenuously 6 days a week for an HOUR. YOU probably couldn’t keep up with me!”. Anyway I decided not to join, because the place looked run down and I don’t like how that lady spoke to me. Just show me around and STFU! Mind your business. I’m going to stick to my DVD’s anyway. It’s cheap and the weight is melting off.9 -
The carbs thing freaks me out. I'm pescetarian, and carbs are a significant part of my diet. Nothing crazy, a bit of rice/sushi here, a pitta bread there. But there is no way I can give them up. I watch my colleagues who seem to exist on lettuce leaves and meat, and they look great but I can't imagine surviving on that. I think they probably think I should drop the carbs to lose weight, but it's not happening!0

When people criticize what I'm eating. I know their heart is in the right place, but it drives me up the wall. Okay, I've been active all day and have only had cashews and water. So WHAT if I decide to eat a big Mac for dinner?
Just because you're content with eating only fruit for dinner (and only a bowl of rice for breakfast and lunch) doesn't mean I'm going to punish myself too.2 -
The so called helpful people. I did not ask for their advice, I do not want their advice, I will not follow their advice. But they seem to be compelled to tell me how their brother, sister, friend great aunt or someone lost weight and I am doing it all wrong. And I need to do it differently. This usually comes after they say gee notice you have lost some weight or your clothes seem to be bigger on you, what diet are you following. For the most part I have learned over the years to say. I eat less diet. And that seems to annoy the heck out of people.2

Any fad diet, "cleanse", or people like Dr Oz that push the latest miracle. None of that stuff works in my opinion.
People that preach keto, vegan, or anti dairy to me. Nope, I LIKE my carbs and dairy, thank you very much. I have personally had great results eating dairy and felt bad when I gave up dairy.
Also, those that insist to me that weight loss is easy. I am a small person with little room for error. It is NOT easy for me, but it is doable and when motivated, I have success.
People that think a 5'0" woman should weigh 100 lbs. If I am a size 2 at 115 lbs, why would I want to be even smaller and be a size double zero? That is too skinny. No.3 -
My pet peeve is literally any fad diet, it's a fad, not a life altering conscious decision, there is no fn magic pill or formula to make this work, it takes dedication and hard work just like, oh gee everything else in life!!2

"If you all havent seen this... you need to."
I've watched many of his things. How to become ultra spiritual. How to go paleo. The flat earth theory. He's funny.

Ooo my diet is definitely temporary. Shiritaki noodles, boiled chicken, plain egg whites, 1% cottage cheese and protein powder with water will not continue after my cut1 -
What peeves me off are people trying to influence other people to correct their eating habits, as though they're going to collect $$ for choosing to change them. We all have thoughts. Why is it so difficult for some to mind their own business?
I'm currently eating a Ketocentric diet because my friends are comfortable with Keto ... No judgement from me, as they're covering 5 dinners out of seven (granted, I will contribute on day 7 too). I can easily substitute carbs/sugar for fat flours/ingredients, for desserts I enjoy eating. Makes absolutely no sense eating something I find bilious. Just makes choices more calories dense vs the alternative. On my cutting cycle it's more about a caloric restriction with an emphasis on less carbs. It's how I like to do it. We all use a food scale too, so I pretty much gauge my own calories without being a helicopter to adults. If they want help, they'll ask. 2 have asked and as atypical MFPers + ETPers, we gave guidance and links allowing the adult to draw their own conclusions.3 -

Mid twenty somethings in our friendship circles all have pre-made cauliflower pizza bases in their freezers. I prefer to use lupin or almond flour myself. Or we'll just order delivery. We're all currently into meat lovers & super cheesy toppings though.0 -
People asking me if I'm okay, am I sick, or am I on drugs. Nope just been resting my drinking arm and moving my legs. Thanks for your concern I guess, unless your just digging for gossip, in which case you can just fnck right off. :-)

People that lose a lot of weight that turn into the pompous *kitten* they once despised.7

That I can't eat an unlimited amount of crap and not get fat.
Sooooo unfair.1 -
Seeing all those KETO, Intermittent Fasting, “What I eat in a day” videos on my YT feed. Go away with your trendy bs!3

Just to touch on that I HATE videos like this with these self professed “experts”. I mean unless you have a nut allergy what’s wrong with eating regular “processed” peanut butter in moderation?! Has anyone actually DIED from eating Jif? I hate “natural” peanut butter too. It’s too oily, messy and hard to spread.

I used to religiously watch her channel until I realized most of her “advice” was straight up BULL******** she did one of those “what I eat in a day” vids and it was kind of disturbing how little she ate. Her cooking vids were bad too. She would always tell her viewers to buy expensive brown rice bread and crackers, because wheat and white flour is “bad for you”. Where do these people come up with this s?$&??? lmao.3 -

Life isn't worth living without JIF.
I've visited some family and friends and they seemed buy more weird natural pB (not the good kind). One time there was so much oil in the pb it was soupy and I might have well just put peanut in oil in my oatmeal. Another time the natural pB was so CHALKY it couldn't spread, it tasted so bad! I now show up to relatives houses with my own small jar of creamy processed JIF peanut butter.1 -

I'm going to use this "line" sometime -- love it!0 -
I know this lady in real life. She is THE WORST. she has tried every magic pill, potion and fad there is. While she's doing them she floods Facebook with her every move, feeling, and thought.... worse than that though, is she never loses any weight. Every time I see her she is bigger. Now I'm not one to judge or fat shame because I have been triple the size I am now, but come on! This crap obviously isnt working sis
Oh yeah, I know this lady too! I think we all do...some version of this, anyway.
The one I'm thinking of, she now WORKS at a fit meals place where they make food to suit a few different diet and eating plans. She posts her every thought, move & feeling as well. Before and after pics that are always 2 weeks apart with a 15 lb loss. Eye roll.
And then shares tons of videos and photos of different desserts (like ice cream inside of a cobbler) and various casseroles that consist of bacon, cheese, and more bacon plus some butter. Repeat cycle for 10 years.1 -
When Facebook friends they to sell me on their wraps/teas/shakes/coffee/waist trainers and other magic potion bullsh!t that obviously doesn't work. The before and after photos are always fake AF and the people trying to sell me on the crap are always overweight. Like if that shiz worked you'd be skinny Karen.4

the photos are real but many of them are stolen from people who lost it the old fashioned way.I know of one woman who had hers stolen and she was pregnant in the before and the after was her after she worked out for more than a year and got into shape. so yeah the pics are real and they will steal anyones pics off social media. one \reason I dont post before and afters anywhere1 -
My biggest pet peeve.... people telling me I lost too much weight and I looked better before. I would get it if I went from a size 8 to a size 2. Yeah, ok maybe I went a bit too far but not when you go from a size 18 to a size 10.6
-
People who go on and on about how they no longer eat meat. Enough already. Why do you have to broadcast it at every event ??1

Sneaky snake brain disconnects. The brain hears everything you say and knows everything you write about yourself. Speaking in general because I have said these things to myself i.e. Lard@$$ looking for friends, won't you join me on the journey from lard@$$ to fit. Trying to get fit by calling yourself names like chunky mama or big fat daddy is a hook in the jaw. Only wanting friends that are in your weight range is another hook.
Has that changed everything for you then?
There are things we say to ourselves that we would never dream of saying to our best friends because they wouldn't speak to us again. You are your own best friend.
Throwing everything up against the wall doesn't make everything stick. Tracking food is easy. Reframing the way you see or think about yourself for the rest of your life - there's no such thing as the finish line with that. Practice, practice, practice long before you arrive at your optimum set point.
Weight loss challenges. Have those changed everything for you then? They are alot like cramming for a test. Cramming gets you by and you may pass with flying colors but how much do you remember from cramming.
If dieting and challenges really worked, you would do one diet, one time and be fixed for the rest of your life.
Self-sabotage is real. Draw a line in the sand and don't berate yourself. Embrace exactly where you are right now. Waiting for life to happen before you get there is throwing giant month hunks of your life away.
Do not dress how you feel about your weight. Go get in the shower and blow the stink off. Stinkin' Thinkin'. Put your face on or shave, spruce yourself up before you head out the door. Hold your head high with your lion tamer's confidence when you walk into the room. Don't grab your rolls or slap yourself saying just look at what you've done to yourself. Don't think of yourself as less than because it's contagious just like fear.
Think Winston Churchill here.
Fear can spread like a wildfire through children or adults. Don't be scared. Be prepared.
Own it. Now. Everything you've done and where you are today but spruce yourself up. Tracking and releasing weight is easy. Eating it all back is so easy. Starting over and over is not easy.
Makes mistakes with the wrong lessons = experience. Embrace all ages and people groups. If you're a grandma why do you need to be with only grandmas. However you've defined yourself there are lessons to be learned from all the weight releasing veterans and champions and moderators here.
Don't limit your thinking. Open. Mind. Insert. Possibilities.
You'll have a much better chance of getting there and staying there.2 -
All the members I talk to that insist they "have tried everything" and now are going for gastric bypass. Listen honey until you get to the root of your eating problem the weight will come right back on in the future. It is a bandaid covering a wound that needs to be healed to guarantee success.5

I love Mari22na's point...you don't have to communicate only with people just like you to get support and ideas for weight loss success. I see posts all the time that are so weirdly specific "Looking for other single moms 33-35 who work in call centers and don't eat pork to support my weight loss efforts". What? I've picked up tips from people who are 21 and lift weights as well as some of the 70-somethings who are maintaining huge losses for 25 years.

Yaaaassss. What I have cabbaged onto from others here is priceless. Strong men and strong women. Fighting the the fight, out there on the frontlines, take the blows and jabs, sucker punches and counter punches, swift uppercuts and potshots taken from across the bow. Weight knows no boundaries. It's like those old no smoking sections in an eating joint. You think that ciggie and cigar smoke knew where the dividing line was and stopped right there. Hi-larious.
Looking for only extra special 30 years olds and Ooo, by the way, do you think my 35 year old hiney will get me by while I'm out there on the trail looking for men? What happens when that thang turns 50 or 60 or 70 or 80? Will I still be relevant, will anyone give a rat's @$$ about me? Only if you start using your head besides something to part your ears with. There is more to life than the outer shell and looks and belly selfies. Start hanging out with a different crowd and broaden your horizons.1
