Good news - read this thread and rest assured - all the bad things about Aspartame have been debunked, it is one of the most studied substances on the planet in the last several decades and time and again has been proven safe for consumption.
Yea..Some people say that Diet Coke will give you cravings for other bad foods..but I usually only crave diet coke..lol The only thing that messes it up, is that McDonald's switched to the plastic cups, instead of the styrofoam..they just aren't as good anymore..lol0 -

I love a diet caffeine free coke- or diet Pepsi- I drink 1 every night and a treat with a small individual bag of chips- THIS helps keep me from going bonkers!!!!1

Then there is me on the other side of that. I never in my life have purposefully drank regular soda, and whenever I accidentally get a sip of one it grosses me out because it tastes so sweet to me. I only enjoy diet.

The aspartame in diet sodas causes devastating effects to the gut microbiome, which in turn leads to weight gain. I’ve researched this thoroughly and there are many scientific studies to back it up; do the research. This is not a simple correlation issue. Many factors go into weight gain/loss...and diet soda plays into them. As a Nutritionist and Personal Trainer, I will not work with clients who will not surrender their soda, as it is #1 offender in my book for health and weight issues. Spend the 5 min online, at the science, to look for oneself before echoing bogus, deflective rhetoric. And, just to add to the conversation, Diet Soda May be zero calorie, but it is disease inducing and destructive to health. I would never drink it, ever, if one can resist. Again, not here to argue, please just do the simple research and decide for yourself if a moments taste is worth your wellbeing This goes beyond weight.
That’s why I’ve lost 20lbs on my cut drinking a largeeee amount of diet soda on my cut??6 -
the trainer reminds me of the woman on FB that told me eating what I wanted when it came to weight loss would lead me to be skinny fat and that if I didnt cut out white foods,starches,breads and sugar that I would not lose fat or weight even if I worked out(deficit or not)6

FIFY. I have yet to see an actual study that makes the claim that diet soda causes weight increase but I sure have seen a lot of internet blogs covered in ads from health gurus claiming that such studies exist even going as far as to citing studies that don't actually say that at all.11 -

This is where "google is your friend" gets tricky. Someone wants to know if "x" is true, someone else snarkily says to google it, and you get "diet sodas cause weight gain."
They don't cause weight gain or slow weight loss. If someone anecdotally finds that it does, they need to check their calorie intake. REALLY check it. If their weight stalled or went up since switching to diet, they ate more.8 -

How would they lead to water retention? Hope the answer isn't sodium because the sodium concentration in sodas is significantly lower than the homeostatically regulated sodium concentration in our cells and blood. If you choose to drink a soda instead of drinking nothing the net effect over time would be your sodium levels would go down not up.8 -

Okay water retention doesn't refer to water in your digestive tract it refers to water that is...well....retained. Water retention occurs when there is an excess of solutes in your body....primary offenders there being sodium and glycogen. If what you injest has more water than solutes in it relative to the concentrations in your body then it will reduce not increase water retention.
Your digestive tract is just a cavity that is outside of your actual body and is connected by two holes to the outside world.11 -
Pet peeve, calling “do your research” a review of the top ten google hits.
I looked harder and deeper. I did test my blood sugar before and after meals. Guaranteed spiky? Ice cream, pizza, bread, cake, potatoes and rice. Diet soda NEVER spiked my insulin/blood sugar response either way. It’s virtually water.
Top effect of my biome (fully anecdotal here), Kefir. All positive.12
