Weight Training / Gaining Weight

Sorry this is a duplicate post; I can’t seem to delete or update the previous.

Started weight training on May 19 with the following schedule day 1: arms and back, day 2: chest, shoulders and triceps, day 3: legs and abs, day off, repeat day 1-3 again.

In addition to this I walk every morning; approx 8km.

Prior to May 19 I was holding a steady weight of 141lbs; now since starting weight training I’m at 147/148. Just wondering how a weight gain of that much can occur in such a short period of time.

Daily I’m always below my target calories as I often find it hard to eat all my calories. This is why I’m puzzled with the weight gain. More exercise and eating less calories, I would expect weight loss?

Age 42
Current weight 147lbs

Any insight would be appreciated.
