How do you weigh your banana?

Peel on or off? I'm usually in a hurry in the morning so I weigh with the peel on but I feel I may be missing out on extra calories by weighing the peel. How do you weigh it?

Weigh with peel, tare the scale, remove and peel the banana, then weigh just the peel. The negative number left is the weight of your banana. Hardly any extra time. I'm greedy with my calories. No way am I counting a banana peel against them!10

I weigh it with it on, eat it, and then weigh the peel and subtract that number from the original weight.5

Weigh banana with peel, peel and eat banana, weigh peel.1

Right, you don't count the weight for things you don't eat, like peels, pits, skins, etc.

Weigh the banana, peel & eat it, weigh the peel then subtract. It's quite a bit you'd be adding if you use the weight with the peel.0

If I’m taking it to work for lunch, I weigh it first, write the weight in grams on the banana, and then bring the empty peel home and weigh again. Log the difference.10

I peel the banana, lay the peel on the scale and tare it to 0g (with the peel lying on it), then set the peeled banana on top of the peel and weigh it. That way it's all done at once rather than having to come back and weigh the peel later.5

You would weigh the edible portion...3

Well, since about a hundred people here are telling you the same thing over and over again, I may as well add my two cents: peel the banana, weigh the rest, then uh, eat it (the banana, not the peel).6

101. I don't mess around with the peel though. I tare out a plate and put the naked banana on it to weigh.

I weigh it with a scale.3

Or you could weigh the banana one day when you are not in a hurry without the peel. Buy bananas about the same size and use that size as a standard. I weigh my bananas, but I am adding them to my yogurt so its easy. What I have found is that in a bunch the size varies maybe from 3-4 grams. No big difference.6

I don't.
I don't get so close to my calorie limits that a banana is going to put me over the edge.
I do round up other calorie dense foods. I.E. if I get 25g of cheese on the scale, I'll log it as a 28g serving per the package.
Ditto with meats, sauces and dressings.
I even weigh meats with the bone, to give margin. I.E. if the pork chop with the bone weighs 150g, I log 150g of pork chop. I don't go back and weigh the bone and then list it as 125g (example...)
That way, I don't need to weigh my bananas.
I'm not going to the moon with my data. I'm trying to lose fat. If the scale stops going down, I check that I'm logging reasonably close and adjust if I need to.
But I'm not to the point where I need to weigh bananas, apples and spinach.8 -
Weighing the peel on a banana is tantamount to weighing the container your food comes in and counting it as extra calories.4
-
Bananas I have weighed were between 80-120g, so I log them as 100g, unless they are very big.
The small cal difference should be offset by any movement during the day, that doesn't get logged3 -
I usually eat my bananas at home so peel it and weigh the banana all by its lonesone.2
-
I weigh it with the peel on, log the total weight, and use the extra weight/ calories to cover any errors in my day.
I do this with all fruit and bone in meats.5 -
Funny, I weight it with the peel on (in the a.m.before work) and consume it usually during my lunch break. I've never thought twice about it. I just take it for what the scale reads. I usually have a calorie deficit at the end of the night so those few calories (from the peel) I don't worry about. How much can they be? - insert answers below.. Now I'm curious 🤔0

Wait, your susposed to peel it before you eat it? Dang, I knew I was missing something!😁4 -
I eat one almost every morning. I peel down one side and throw that peel away. Pull the rest of the peel off and set it on the scale, inside up. Turn on the scale and it reads zero. set my banana on the peel and weigh it.0

This is what I do, followed by "tare" and adding peanut butter.3 -
I dont weigh my bananas. I use MFP entries "small", "medium", or "large".
So, how exactly do you guys eat a banana??
I hold a banana in my hand and half peel It, start eating from the top, and pull the peel down some more as necessary.
I never remove the peel all at once unless I'm adding the banana to cereal or something.4 -
I can’t believe how many people weigh with peel, eat, then weigh peel. Just take the peel off, weigh it, and eat it. It’s like people who back into parking spaces. It just wastes everyone’s time and is unnecessary.
Disagree on the parking spaces. Backing out of a parking space is dangerous to pedestrians who aren't in your line of sight.7 -
I prefer to peel the banana, weigh it, then use the "banana - banana sliced" entry from the food database using the peeled banana weight.
I prefer to do the same with other fruit I eat like apples (since I don't eat the core & use the "apple slices" database entry) or with other fruit (like oranges) as long as there's an appropriate entry to pick from the food database.

Funny thing here is supermarkets sell bananas by weight (with skin on). Roadside vendors and farmer's markets sell by unit, so slightly different sizes for the same price per banana.

I read an article on that the other day. It questioned why backing in isn't the norm as they have lots of data to back up what appears obvious - backing in is safer. To be more correct, backing out is not nearly as safe. The article I read used accidents with other cars rather than pedestrians. The percentage of cars that pulled forward into a spot that got into an accident leaving the space was several times higher than it was for those backed in. Not just several percentage points - several times higher. And it used percentages, not raw numbers because most people park head in.4 -
without the peel1
