Soooooo many posts when you get off for a while. Now they want me to have an MRI of my upper spine. OrthoMD says that issues in my upper spine could possibly cause problems with my balance. The PT guy doing the assessment owns the franchise and I hope he will continue working with me. He is 'so' funny and cute as he can be. He told me the last time I was in for my back, he could tell my balance was off; and, was not surprised that there would be a referral. I hope he works with me because he seems to make sure he doesn't go into the corner while other PTs leave them to work out on their own. I guess my balance is substantially off that he is the one who tests me and assesses what I am going through. My eyes are okay (but, my balance is certainly off in total darkness). My ears are okay. But, I fall over when I am in total darkness. Then the questions came ... do you fall a lot, stumble, and stumble and fall, any depth perception, and bumping into things even when I know there are there. Check, check, check, check, and check. Over the past 6 weeks to 2 months I have done something that I call a black-out; even when I haven't drunk anything. I told him that a year ago when I stopped coming, it was because it was because I had had 7 seizures which messed up my bipolar meds and in January, I ended up being "Dilantin Toxic".
I think there is little much more they can check; but, at least my mind is comforted.
But, when I see we're at page #66 - I will just not post too much here. I've been off FB for over 3 months now and have not missed it at all. That way my sister's political statement doesn't bother me nearly as much as if I were still on it. Of course, I get all the 'stupid' remarks through Trey who is very vocal to the other extreme. I just sit back and laugh at them. We did make it through the reunion and nary a word about politics. Hoo-Rah!
Thanksgiving went well. I baked the ham, and tonight I am going to boil it to make stock for soup this year.
Hope y'all had a good holiday and will have a good one coming up.

Love all the art work ladies. I am definitely not talented that way.
Vicki - sorry to hear times are hard. Sometimes life just piles one thing on another. HUGS.
Back home after a lovely visit. It was so nice to be able to leave after fish and chips and catch the bus home. Enjoyed picking them up from school. Did lots of walking.
I managed to put a few boxes of photos in the upstairs wardrobe. Everything else, like old manuscripts, letters etc, will have to go into the eaves space. My spare published books are going under the stairs. I wish I could get rid of more stuff, but I can't bring myself to. Sentimental me. I live in hope that the Bodlean Library will want it all.

Hi, Lenora!

Glad to see you Lenora...sorry to hear things are a bit wonky...we missed you 😀0

Good to see you back Lenora. I am in the middle of a house hunt for son, so in skim mode for now.0

Its so dark with all these tall trees around us. When it gets really windy, it sounds like a downpour!
Tonight having chili and honey cornbread. Yummy. Husband bought a craft IPA beer to add. I will try not to have too much of that.👍
My youngest Navy son seems to be doing well. I get texts how and then. Haven't had any phone calls though. He must be out to sea.
Hugs!

Sue in TX – I’m really grateful that I had to take typing in high school. When I look at my daughter today on her keyboard, hunting and pecking – going quickly but having to look at the keys, I am so grateful that I learned touch type.
Lisa in AR – you made me smile when you said how you broke the only belt the teacher had for the treadle machine.
Allarounddice – congrats!
Barbara – I’m with you, I miss seeing people off on their flights. The other thing is, if you are waiting at an airport for someone, most of the food places are beyond security. I would think that the airports would WANT people to spend money.
Karen – great pics
Rita – alien Santa – love it! One question, how did you get to post a pic? When I went to post a pic, only the small thing on the bottom showed up. I always used to be able to post the pic. What did you click on?
Hi Lenora! Would love to see more of you

26 Form of expression ... like many of you the written word is what I thought of first. But cooking/food has actually been a language I've received and one of given ... expressing love ...
Spent several hours outside in the pouring rain today finally getting things ready for winter outside. The early snow prevented me from taking down lawn furniture and securing the pool fence that is deteriorating in places (held up through the summer with overgrown vines/weeds), among other things. Anyways, every muscle is speaking loudly to me tonight ...
We're expecting anywhere between 10-20 inches of snow over the next 48 hours ... the midwest's blizzard heading this way. At least now I don't have summer and fall things scattered about.

There is an icon above the reply box that looks like a picture of a mountain with the moon above. Click on that and it will ask you to choose file. Find what you want on your computer, click "open" and it will post as a picture. That's what I did to post this picture of Bernie.

Dr Katie: My memories of teaching “rules” are similar to yours. I “called in sick” if I was sick. I did walk out of parent conferences when my daughter went into labor in the middle of the evening. My student teacher took over & I headed home, packed & left for Colorado.. We drove most of the night, slept a few hours in a motel in E Idaho and were at the hospital in Colorado the next day. It was a difficult birth for my daughter and the baby, but they are both doing great now.
Michele: You’re way ahead of us on decorations. I envy your efficiency. :flowerforyou:
Kim (& Lisa): Kim, your advice to Lisa is excellent and full of good sense. Lisa: I hope things go well for you, and remember you can skip the meeting for medical reasons if that is best. :flowerforyou:
(((Vicki)))
Lenora: I hope the doctors get your situation sorted out so that you can enjoy life again. I'm glad you stopped by. :flowerforyou:
We went shopping for a new dishwasher today and have probably found the right one. It isn’t a “done deal” yet. Our current dishwasher is still running after many years, but it is clearly old and tired. The dishracks are starting to rust in places where the plastic coatings have worn. DH is eager for a change.
DD would like me to get her daughter a toy sewing machine for Christmas. I found one at Joann's Fabrics, and the clerk said to avoid it. They don’t work well & break easily. I would rather get her a decent machine when she’s several years older, at least at Junior High level. She’s only 7 now. Advice and recommendations welcome.
Katla in OR3 -
Machka: It has been a long while since I had a hot flash, and I am so grateful for the absence of them. My doctor gave me “the pill” for birth control when I was a young woman. It was hideous and caused many hotflashes, quarrels and sleepless nights. DH threw my pills in the toilet and I flushed it. We found another form of birth control. As menopause came along it was the same song, second verse. I threw those pills away, too. Exercise & Vitamin D3 helped then & I still take D3. :flowerforyou:
[/b]
I have a genetic mutation: MTHFR combined with a predisposition toward high homocysteine levels. Because of this, I get blood clots, and had DVT in my left leg in 2009. I was in hospital 2 weeks with that ... my left leg was full of clots from above the knee all the way down. Then I was on Warfarin for a year.
Apparently it also means I have a lot of difficulty carrying a child to term ... which might explain a thing or two.
But what it also means is that HRT could kill me. HRT + all that would very likely result in clots. Last time they clogged up my left leg and left me with a few ongoing issues. Next time they could turn up anywhere. So I've got to go through this without HRT.
However, I am on a Serotonin-based medication which does help with the hot flashes a little bit. They used to be BIG and very frequent. They're smaller now and somewhat less frequent.
I'm also on Evening Primrose Oil, D3, Ginkgo Biloba, Valerian, all the B vitamins, and a few others.

Hello
New here but not to MFP. Had success a few years ago then blew it all by going back to work and having way too much stress. I am 62 now and need to get my shite together or I will die. Trying one day at a time really checking to see if I am hungry before I fill my yap.
Daughter expecting twins by dec 3 so I will be spending half of dec and all of jan helping with those and her 20 mo old. Her husband is off for dec but I think it will take all hands on deck!!
Beth- no snow here! Just rainstorm warnings.
Cheers

Karen in BC - welcome! Where does your daughter live in relation to you? Will you have to stay at her place or can you come home?
Michele in NC0 -
Karen BC - Good luck with the twins. You are so right about the "all hands on deck"!!! Have a few strategies in place for when you are tired and hungry, which will be all the time I guess! Protein bars, easy to heat soup, bananas, protein snacks like cottage cheese. You are so good to be going to help. My DMIL came to help me with my second baby. For ever grateful.
Up early, but I have had 6 hours sleep. Going to do more tidying away today. Bake the Christmas cake. Have my first bath, now that my new bath plug has arrived and do a bit of shopping for my coeliac friend who is visiting tomorrow. I've bought some gluten free seed bread. Unfortunately it looks like it will be raining, so it may be a bus expedition instead of a walk on the prom!
We have a rash of visitors coming, as expected with a new house. My friends, my elder son staying two nights, DH 's two daughters on separate days. Lots of catering for me! I'm going to make it easy on myself though.
DON’T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx, who is hoping to jog today if it isn't raining.4 -
KarenBC Going to be busy with all those babies! Be sure to take what you need for self-care so you can be at your best for your happily stressed family. Welcome. We can be a very supportive oasis while you are at your daughter's house...and afterward!
Katla My advice: buy her a refurbished Singer Featherweight when she is a little older. She'll keep it forever. She'll probably get a fancier machine at some point, but nothing will replace that little Featherweight for simple straightforward sewing. Love, love, love my Featherweight.
NYKAREN I was thinking about the sadness in your daughter & how you are treading lightly right now. For some reason, it reminded me of my cousin Holly. I'm not sure what my aunt & uncle were thinking, but they allowed her to go to Detroit in the summer of 1967 on a church mission. She was 17. Fortunately, she came home safe & sound, but it was such a profound experience for her that she was atypically angry for a while. Right after she returned home, they came to visit us, and after a while, I asked her what was wrong (I was 13). She said it was hard to be in a safe cushy house with us, in such stark contrast to what she had left behind in Detroit. She told me just taking a hot shower made her feel incredibly guilty & profoundly grateful at the same time. It was transformative for her. It was enlightening for me. We were safe, and we had everything we needed, and I did take it for granted. I learned something important from my cousin that summer.

Morning Ladies~
things get weirder and weirder, one of my boss's is going through a divorce and has custody of his 2 kids .. they have always had a nanny as his soon to be ex has CP and could not care for them on her own...He calls me last night and asked what hours I am working and wants me to work for him, taking care of the boys and doing stuff... Uhhh No.... I am flattered that he knows im trustwrothy but I would never get paid... there are creditors calling our office looking for him constantly.. just really bizzare..he said he would talk to Dr Ho who is my boss and I will talk to Dr Ho today too.. no way am I going to get roped into that...5 -
My sister-in-law posted this and I thought it was good ...
Nov 1 - smell. My roses.
Nov 2 - technology. Social media and staying connected with family and friends.
Nov 3 - colour. Blue. The blue of the mouth of the river/bay/start of the ocean out my window. The blue of the sky. My new blue sleeping top that was nice and comfy last night.
Nov 4 - food ... cheese. I ate a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches when my husband was in hospital. They were my comfort food. Also cheese has calcium which I think I need. Unfortunately, cheese does tend to be a bit high in calories so I shouldn't eat too much of it. But anything cheese-y is comforting.
Nov 5 - sound. I like listening to the waves and the birds, but I think the sound I'm most grateful for today is my husband's voice. Just the fact that we can talk to each other again.
Nov 6 - "What in nature are you grateful for?" ... That's hard to narrow down to one thing. Oxford dictionary describes nature as "the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth". I am grateful for all of it. I find that getting out into any sort of nature helps to relieve stress.
Nov 7 - "What memory are you grateful for?" ... Another one with so many choices!!! Recently, I've been grateful for two memories. 1) June 2017 ... my husband and I had a wonderful visit to Canada and did several things to make great memories ... hiking, cycling, visiting my family. I clung onto those memories during the months he was in hospital. 2) When I was 9 years old, my family moved away from where my grandmother lived. One of of the last days there, my grandmother took me to her window and showed me a full moon outside. She told me that on every full moon, we could both look at it and know that even though we were far apart, we were both looking at the same moon. That's a memory which has stuck with me all these years, and every time I see a full moon, I think of my grandmother. She's 97 years old ... but not doing so well ... so I've been thinking of her a lot. And I've also been very glad that my husband and I were able to see her when we visited Canada in June 2017.
Nov 8 - "What book are you most grateful for?" That's easy ... The Bible.
I've enjoyed reading all your memories.
Love the discussion about books!
Nov 9 - "What place are you most grateful for?" This is not an easy one for me because I don't have the sense of "home" that many people have. I've moved too much for that.
So ... I've had to give this one some thought. What place?
Well ...
I'm grateful for our current house. It's comfortable enough. It's not very big so it's fairly easy to manage. And it has a great garden which my husband has been able to work in since returning home from his accident. It is also close to a couple beaches, which is nice.
Nov 10 - Taste! Hmmm ... salt. In the "Do you crave sweet or salty" discussion, I fall on the "salty" side.
As it happens, I have a diminished sense of taste and smell for whatever reason, so I divide foods into the basic tastes: sweet, salty, sour or bitter, and from there it's harder to distinguish precise flavours. Although, I do seem to have some odd tastes like, for example, meat and tomato taste metallic to me, and I don't like that. If I salt them well, the metallic taste goes away and they taste salty, which is OK.
Then, one of the side effects of my husband's accident is that he has lost most of his sense of taste and smell. He has regained a little bit, and they say it should return very gradually. But he'll comment that dinner has no flavour, and I'll think, "It just tastes salty to me. Is there supposed to be more flavour than that?"
Nov 11 - What holiday are you grateful for? Christmas!!!
I've always loved Christmas. I even picked up 3 Christmas CDs yesterday. I like having a decent amount of time off ... not just one day ... so I can get things done. I like all the decorations. I like the music. I like the services and celebrations.
Nov 12 - Texture. Smooth. Very, very smooth. Clothing with no texture. Textured clothing is unwearable. Smooth clothing is good.
Nov 13 - Abilities. Right now, it would have to be organisation. While I feel like I'm in the midst of a chaotic whirlwind (and have been for the past 8 months) and I don't feel very organised, surprisingly enough, stuff is getting done.
Maybe I should include things like endurance and tenacity ... "skills" I've honed from my long distance cycling carrying over to "real life".
Nov 14 - Sight. What sight am I grateful for? The ever-changing view out the window of our house looking over the bay and the surrounding hills. Right now it's all grey and misty but it still looks good.
Nov 15 - Season. The season I am most grateful for is summer. I love summer. I'd love it if the year were divided so that there was 1 month of winter, 1 month of spring, 2 months of autumn, and 8 months of real summer weather. We're coming into summer here and I appreciate each and every summer-like day.
Nov 16 - What about your body are you grateful for?
Sometimes I think ... "less and less" these days because I'm literally falling apart.
But ... I'm grateful for my legs which are one of my main methods of transportation.
Nov 17 - What knowledge are you grateful for? -- The tacit knowledge of cycling. Being able to ride a bicycle. It has taken me all over the world. It's how my husband and I met. It is stress relief. And it is part of my husband's healing process.
https://www.brainline.org/blog/getting-back-bike/what-brain-derived-neurotrophic-factor-and-why-you-should-care
Nov 18 - What piece of art are you grateful for?
That's a difficult one. I've taken an Art History course, and enjoyed it very much. And I like going to galleries. But I haven't really felt a connection to any particular pieces.
However, the one that is probably my favourite piece is:
Umberto Boccioni, Dynamism of a Cyclist, 1913
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamism_of_a_Cyclist
Nov 19 - What touch are you grateful for?
My husband's hugs!! This was something I missed so much when he was in hospital!!
Nov 20 - Who in your life are you grateful for?
The obvious choice would be my husband, and I am grateful to have him in my life still. However, I have been very grateful for my parents who have been so supportive through the challenges this year.
Nov 21 - What song are you most grateful for?
My taste in music changes with my moods but I've been listening to this one a lot this year ...
Jesus Loves Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osWLvRlniNo
Nov 22 - What story are you most grateful for?
The Christmas Story.
I have some of it memorised, and have done since I was about 6 years old. But I can hear it over and over.
Nov 23 - Tradition.
I had to think about this a bit because I don't think of myself as a person with many traditions, partly because I don't have children to pass them on to. But I do have a few around Christmas which I've inherited from my parents:
Decorations on or very close to December 1.
Open Presents on Christmas Eve.
Read the Christmas Story, mentioned above.
Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day.
Listening to Handel's Messiah.
Watching Scrooge with Alistair Sims.
I'm grateful for all of my Christmas traditions ... they make December a special month.
Nov 24 - What challenge am I grateful for?
Ha! I've had a lot of challenges to choose from so I had to think about this one today.
I decided on this ...
The challenge I am grateful for is my education. I'm a perpetual student. I've attended courses of some sort just about every year since I was about 5 years old. I'm grateful that I've been able to do that. It has been challenging ... sometimes more than other times. And although I've not actually gone directly into the fields in which I've been educated, it has all contributed to get me where I am now.
And it keeps me thinking and learning.
Finishing my 10K run. I slogged my way up the hill, and as I came down the other side toward the finish line, my husband was there waiting for me with a big smile.
I wasn't sure exactly what this means, but I think we can make it mean whatever we want. So the form of expression I'm most grateful for is the written word. That includes books to read, posts I type, emails, letters, and everything.
Nov 27 - What small thing that you use daily are you grateful for?
I use a lot of small things daily, and I'm thankful for them all. It's hard to decide! Toothbrush, lipgloss, undies, water glass, phone ...
I think I'll go with glasses. Without them, I couldn't see! I could still read a book, but I couldn't work on my computer, see to walk around, drive ...
Yes, I'm very thankful for my glasses.

Gratitude #27 What small thing that you use daily are you grateful for? - Wow! I have to agree with Machka; there are so many things... A toothbrush ranks pretty high on the list. I really hate the "fuzzy" feeling on my teeth after drinking coffee. The term "small" is so subjective, though. I am also thankful for indoor plumbing and electricity. Those are pretty "big" things, but "small" when compared to the grand scheme of life; after all, people lived for millenia without them. Today, right now, this morning, I am eternally grateful for the invention of decongestants and nasal sprays. Breathing easy is very underrated.
Feeling blah this morning, ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)2 -
I have noticed someone using the "Woo" icon! It is misleading and many of us have thought "Woo!" was a good thing; but it is actually an icon that sends a flag to the mfp admin. Please refrain from using the Woo! (but I do think we need a big celebratory icon; sometimes "like" and "hug" just don't seem adequate)5
-
Heather - so glad your older son is coming to visit! I know you don't see him much. The rest of your company, I hope you enjoy.
Allie - It's always weird when one of your employers makes a request outside of work, anyway. Hope Dr. Ho can help you get out of it gracefully, but if not, you can find a way to say "no." You take care of so many people and animals now...
On my side, still haven't met with the CEO (busy lady, you know! ) but she was very gracious during the Monday conference call with all employees yesterday. She said very complimentary things during the call about my time there, asked me to speak a few words, and then said a few a more at the end.
I also did get an email last night from her saying that after the all-staff conference call, she doesn't believe the staff expect me to return, so there's no need for me to come back to El Paso. Whew! Of course, she wasn't seeing the text messages I was getting throughout the conference call once the announcement was made. My phone just about blew up... but that's OK. I'll still be at the other end of a phone or e-mail for them, and they know it, so little has changed for most of the people I work with.
And Wednesday (tomorrow), I'll be taking the day off from this council to go to my new council's Christmas party in downtown Little Rock. Easy drive there and back and a daytime party. And I'm going with my interim CEO's e-mailed blessing. My new boss will be quite pleased, as she's the one who wants me to go. Should be an easy way to meet all my new co-workers in a very relaxed environment. My introvert side can go stuff it. The 23% of extrovert in me will do just fine...
Love y'all,

Yes ...
More about that here:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10570889/new-community-reaction-woo#latest
However, I don't know whether it sends a flag to the mfp admin, or if it is just a way for members to tell other members that what they're saying is a bunch of rubbish.
And I agree that there needs to be "Congrats!" or something to celebrate.

Karen VA I think you hit the nail on the head with my DD, processing the trip and comparing our first world privileges to her experience there is a lot to wrap her brain around. So, we are eating pie, playing scrabble and going for walks! Have to say, neither DH or I are pushing for information. Tomorrow she heads up to college for a week to visit friends and clear up school issues. This new phase is important and fragile and we are staying open but not pushing.
Allie you are exactly right about not offering to help with the colleagues children, keep a mile between you and that situation.
Beth here comes winter! We didn't rake any leaves in our back yard, the neighbors sycamore and oak leaves are blanketing the lawn. Don't know if we are going to clear it or not.....Does this mean trouble for the lawn in Spring Margaret? what do you think?

Areas of my yard are blanketed with leaves also. It's already causing water to pool on top and it's going to create a muck-field in the Spring. I considered trying to rake some of the heavy wet leaves yesterday (saw someone doing that in another town) and then came to my senses. I do not have that kind of energy! This morning there's 4 inches of snow on the ground and it's still snowing ... wet, heavy stuff.

Lisa, if I were expected to go to a party to meet new coworkers, I’d melt down. You rock!
Barbara, your suggestion to log my food before I eat has helped the past two weeks. Thank you..
Yesterday had a good appointment with my eye doctor. Pressure was down in both eyes and don’t need another examination til April. I pulled out the Christmas decorations and might decorate today. My girl Ella is begging for her morning walk. Wishing everyone a good day.
