Every Christmas I look forward to my mom's peanut butter fudge (it's actually chocolate/PB, not just PB). It is soooo good and we only have it at Christmas. It's not Christmas without PB fudge.

This year I'm going to tackle homemade cinnamon rolls. (Rising dough. YIKES!!! I've never tried anything with rising dough before.)

What deliciousness are you looking forward to this Christmas? As usual, bonus points for food porn pics.

Oh, yeast is so much fun to work with because it's ALIVE! Just make sure you carefully read the recipe and work backwards from all the rising times so you start early enough.

For years I struggled and then gave up on dough recipes that required rolling because I just couldn't make circles. And then I discovered this:

I use a traditional rolling pin to start and that one to get it round.

If your dough doesn't rise consider "proofing" in the oven with a pan of hot water like this: https://www.cooksillustrated.com/how_tos/6398-turning-your-oven-into-a-proof-box

It's just too cold and dry in my house this time of year for dough to rise properly on the counter.

I bake a bunch of different cookies with my kids for Christmas. They are all pretty much Christmas only cookies and they are so buttery and delicious. Plus I enjoy the baking with my littles.

I love Christmas-only stuff. It's so much more special that way.

    I agree ☺️

British-style fruitcake. The British shop near us is stuffed full of goodies like that. But my husband is talking about making it himself, he's a superb cook.

I made my fruitcake back in October and have been feeding it with brandy every week. Can't wait for Christmas so I can eat a piece of it with a slice of Wensleydale cheese.

Oops. Forgot to add. I've got the mincemeat for mince-pies, but this year I'm making my own pastry. (I have got a packet of ready-made pastry just in case everything goes wrong.)

Much though I love all the goodies, sweet and savoury.

I’m over at your place Christmas to new year @BruinsGal_91. Need to get as much of those traditional goodies in as possible. I’ll even make the pastry for you. :)

Do you marzipan and royal ice your cake.?

For me it would be an English trifle with sherry. So odd, when I was little I used to think the sherry spoiled it, now I think it is spoiled without it.
Sorry, no pics- last time I made it was pre digital.

    Cheers, h.

I had lost the recipe for these cookies my mother used to make and just got a copy from my sister.

It would be pretty easy to convert them to gluten free, the dilemma for me is that they have a LOT of nuts, and nuts and I aren't friends, but they'd be worth it.

They're a thin shortbread layer, topped with a nut layer, topped with a fudge layer, sprinkled with nuts. They are amazing.

I'm still debating whether or not to make them.

I'm Ukrainian, and every Christmas I make cabbage rolls. They're so good, but such a pain I only make them once a year. These are from last year, almost ready to go into the oven:

We are not Ukrainian but when I was a kid my mom would make those about twice a year in the exact same type of pan. More likely though we'd have Lazy Man's cabbage rolls which was all the stuffing mixed up with chunks of cooked cabbage

When my husband explained that British fruit cake has marzipan AND royal icing I thought "All of that together?? This sounds extremely rich!!" although he pointed out that people are served very thin slices.
And I get to eat the marzipan because he can't stand the stuff.
He also wants to try the American fruitcake so that he can understand what all the complaints are about.

Three cheers for Nanaimo bars. You are a woman with exceptional taste.

@lkpducky, glad you are up for trying the Brit version, tiny slices usually, but sooo tasty.

I actually prefer the Brit version - it didn't have those darned candied citrons that I don't like. Just nice dried fruit all liquored up.

I always look forward to fruitcake!!! It's my favorite, and it's the one indulgence I'm allowing myself this year.
