I'm Ukrainian, and every Christmas I make cabbage rolls. They're so good, but such a pain I only make them once a year. These are from last year, almost ready to go into the oven:

We are not Ukrainian but when I was a kid my mom would make those about twice a year in the exact same type of pan. More likely though we'd have Lazy Man's cabbage rolls which was all the stuffing mixed up with chunks of cooked cabbage

Do you marzipan and royal ice your cake.?

    Cheers, h.

When my husband explained that British fruit cake has marzipan AND royal icing I thought "All of that together?? This sounds extremely rich!!" although he pointed out that people are served very thin slices.
And I get to eat the marzipan because he can't stand the stuff.
He also wants to try the American fruitcake so that he can understand what all the complaints are about.

Three cheers for Nanaimo bars. You are a woman with exceptional taste.

    <3 , h.

@lkpducky, glad you are up for trying the Brit version, tiny slices usually, but sooo tasty.

I actually prefer the Brit version - it didn't have those darned candied citrons that I don't like. Just nice dried fruit all liquored up.

I always look forward to fruitcake!!! It's my favorite, and it's the one indulgence I'm allowing myself this year.

Living in the southern US but being a western Canadian by birth and upbringing, can I say how much I miss both those items?

You will just have to make them yourself!

Christmas is in mid summer here in Australia, and it's often very hot. My all time favourite hot-weather dessert for the season is fresh mixed berries (in abundance) served with walnut cinnamon crumble and a strawberry date sauce which has been scented with rosewater. It's so simple, truly delicious, and reasonably healthy!

Homemade caramels. I’ve made (multiple batches) for 37 Christmases. The family is like vultures waiting for me to walk in the door with them.
Our meal is appetizers on Christmas Eve, and everyone brings an appetizer and a tray of homemade cookies and candies to share.

Much though I love all the goodies, sweet and savoury.

I’m over at your place Christmas to new year @BruinsGal_91. Need to get as much of those traditional goodies in as possible. I’ll even make the pastry for you. :)

For me it would be an English trifle with sherry. So odd, when I was little I used to think the sherry spoiled it, now I think it is spoiled without it.
Sorry, no pics- last time I made it was pre digital.

    Cheers, h.

@middlehaitch I used to marzipan and ice my cake, but my husband always picks off the marzipan, so I tend not to bother anymore. But as long as there's a chunk of cheese to go with it, I'm happy.

Ahh, sherry trifle. That's my husband's specialty. I think I may have to drop a few subtle hints in the coming days.

Oh man.. ALL THE GOODIES!! But really I look forward to Christmas cookies the most. And chocolate covered deliciousness as well. I'm not sure how much energy I have to do a ton of baking this year though.. Thought I was gonna tackle it this weekend, but I think I'm coming down with the crud that's going around. I'm not sure how everyone will like contaminated Christmas cookies. ;) Anyways.

FOOD PORN!!!! (what I plan on baking up if I'm not all gross and yucky this weekend)

I'm looking forward to fudge, cheesecake and baked glazed ham. I rarely have any of them and they always seem available around Christmas.

Every Christmas I look forward to my mom's peanut butter fudge (it's actually chocolate/PB, not just PB). It is soooo good and we only have it at Christmas. It's not Christmas without PB fudge.

This year I'm going to tackle homemade cinnamon rolls. (Rising dough. YIKES!!! I've never tried anything with rising dough before.)

What deliciousness are you looking forward to this Christmas? As usual, bonus points for food porn pics.

Oh, my, those cinnamon rolls look amazing. I don't suppose you would share the recipe?

Those are an internet image. I've never made cinnamon rolls before!

OK, not a food, but I can't wait to have a snowball! Advocaat and lemonade :yum: we have them every Christmas and boxing day and I love them

My grandma's krumkakes (Norweigan cookies). We only have them once a year. Eggnog!

Nice. My Great Grandmother would make those, along with fattigmann and crowns. Sometimes we'd get bordstabler, too. I'm OK (not great) at making the crowns, but I can't duplicate any of the other ones.

For Christmas parties I always make bread pudding with a bourbon sauce. I think there would be rebellion among my friends if I ever showed up without the bread pudding.
