How long in maintenance: I hit my goal weight in the beginning of January 2018, but officially started maintenance in mid-March 2018 after figuring out my calories for a couple of months.
Maintenance weight range: 108-111.5
Average weight recorded from 2018 (12 months): 109.8

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: My weight finally seems to be getting back to normal since the holiday season crazy fluctuations. Still saw some fluctuations, though not as drastic as the past couple of weeks, and my weight finally dropped below 110 for the last two days of this week - first time it's been there since the beginning of the year! I'm hoping that I'll get back to the middle of the range this week, as I don't have any meals out coming up besides happy hour drinks one day.8 -

Success/Struggles: I'm stuck at the top of my maintenance range and really prefer to be close to the bottom. I know why, though, and can start getting better at tracking this coming week. My husband had (very successful) minor surgery last Monday, and I'd been eating more and moving less since this started before Christmas. Now that he's home and doing so well, my stress levels are down and I'm feeling more in control.
Wishing everyone a successful upcoming week!12 -

Success/Struggles: I, typically, weigh in the morning. Today, I just weighed in this evening. I weigh and log my food daily as I also participate in the MFP Ultimate Accountability Challenge (UAC) which I sign up for each month for accountability. It's a great group of like minded members who desire to live a healthy life style. My personal opinion is maintenance requires just as much diligence as losing weight. There's no room for complacency. One of the components of the UAC Challenge requires 20+ minutes of daily activity; but you, the participant, decide what that activity might be each day. In spite of the cold temperatures & snow in my part of the country this last week (particularly this weekend) I've been doing "virtual reality hikes" in my living room for my exercise/activity component. The virtual hikes on YouTube give me some exercise and take me around the world without having to leave home. This week, I've been from Michigan to Oregon, Hawaii, Bryce Canyon National Park and the Grand Canyon. Don't have a tread mill or exercise bike? Just improvise with low impact aerobics and power walking or jogging in place like I do. How great is that?9 -

Success of the week: My scale weight dipped into my maintenance range this week for the second time since the end of November.
Struggle of the week: That dip into my maintenance range? It was just one day.
The last three months has been interesting. Six months ago I was at a minimum and been bouncing around since then.
But over a year; not bad.
Now to just bring it down a tiny bit more so it fluctuates around a slightly lower number.11 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: My weight is up a little today which is good. It has actually been down almost all week but I really tried to make sure that I was eating enough and I ate more than usual this weekend. I'm sure a lot of the weight this morning is just a fluctuation but I'm still pleased with where I am. It is still a little hard to get out of the mindset that I need to be losing each week, but I know in my head that just because my weight is up a little this morning I am not suddenly going to gain back the 80 pounds I lost and it is ok if some weeks my weight is up and some weeks it is down. I am actually under my weight range and have been for a few months. In the past when I have been under for a while I have just lowered my range. But I think that 118-122 is a good range for me so I am not going to lower it. At this point I am ok with being a little under range and I know that if my weight is up some like this morning that that is fine because that actually puts me closer to my range. I was hovering around 115 most of the week and my trend even dropped to 115.8 which is ok, but I don't really want to get any lower than 115 and really 118 is a good weight for me. I'm really feeling good in maintenance though. I'm happy with the amount I'm eating and with my activity level. I ran 10 miles yesterday and it was just fantastic.11 -

Success / Struggles: Suddenly, I have a renewed desire to track my food again. Not sure where it’s coming from, but I’m just going to enjoy the motivation while it lasts. As for struggles, I am having difficulty with my body image. Although the scale says what I want it to, I don’t feel that I look particularly slim right now. I think I may have lost muscle and gained fat this winter — not sure.10 -

Please join us in the Ultimate Accountability Challenge (UAC). It's a monthly challenge under Community->Groups. The February sign-up is here. Would love to have you join us. Many of us are maintainers and participate, not to lose weight but rather for accountability and to build strength/endurance. Others are still on the weight loss journey. It's a very supportive group for you or anyone else on this thread who may be interested.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I’m officially back in Maintenance range! Yippee!
For those who have been on this maintenance forum for a long while, you may recall that I almost died this time last year - choking on a Brussels sprout of all things. I decided at that point to go a bit easier on myself and to really ramp up the concept of “living my best life”. At that point, I decided to stop calorie counting for a while because I was becoming quite obsessive.
Fast forward a year, I’m about 10lbs heavier now (most of the weight was gained over the holidays) but I feel and look good; still fit in all my clothes. I’m still not calorie counting, though I weigh myself on the bathroom scale almost daily. I am enjoying the freedom of this approach to weight maintenance and am truly content in my body.
On a lighter topic, I am super proud of myself this week - I am not a morning exerciser, but I got up 4 out of 5 workdays to either hit up my indoor bike or go to the gym for a 3 mile run on the treadmill. I also have law class now after work on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. So proud that I managed to pack breakfast, lunch, and dinner both days and didn’t deviate at all from the plan despite being tired, cranky, and overall mentally exhausted by the end of Wednesday. Failing to plan is planning to fail, as they say!
Cheers to a great week everyone!15 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I would say this week was just a normal week. I did up my walking on my lunch break to almost an hour three days and kept to the rest of my exercise program. The scale is at the bottom of my range. Still wanting to stop losing but also willing to adjust my range down.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: An interesting thing about being in maintenance for a little while is that I'm starting to gather enough data to see how my own particular CICO balances out. Over the past few weeks I've noticed that I often serially undereat - not eating back the majority of my NEAT/step calories, and it's enough that it's actually noticeable on the scale by the end of the week. At that point, I up my calories a good amount to compensate and my weight returns to the starting point. This makes me feel a bit more confidence that MFP's estimates (and my activity level estimates) are somewhat reasonable. It also gives me the opportunity to consider some of the other strategies I've seen people discuss on the forums, such as banking calories for the weekend in a strategic manner.
Some of this may be psychological as well, as I'm more comfortable losing a little and then playing "catch up" rather than getting closer to the top of the range and then losing. There's no practical difference, but hey, it seems to make me happier.
Otherwise, things are good. I'm getting plenty of daily exercise, starting to see some visual results from resistance training, and mostly managing stress. A challenge for the next few months, beginning tonight, is weekend night shifts. I have a plan for meals and exercise; hopefully, it'll survive contact with reality. I'm not looking forward to dealing with shifting my schedule back and forth on a weekly basis, but c'est la vie. Have a great week, everyone!8 -
Thank you for providing this opportunity to "weigh-in" on the maintenance plan. I am still a ways away from reaching my goal BUT...I want to align myself with the winners (you all : ) My height is 5'9 and my weight has been as high as 297, but currently am at 197. My wife says I look good, but I am thinking 185. I like what Stephen has accomplished with losing 61 pounds and getting to the 159ish mark. How does that feel for you. Do you look healthy AND how many calories do you consume as a rule in a day?4

Hi Ben, I originally went from 262 to 182 (took one year), maintained for one year, then crept up about 20 pounds in year 3. My wife thinks I look fine, but my clothes are a bit snug for me and I feel a little more sluggish than I like, so I'm going to move back down to 185, I think, by summer. That way I'll not be carrying as much around for summer gardening, etc. I really think that anything within the healthy BMI (126 to 169 for 5'9") is fine--it's what feels good to you, and you should take into account if you're muscular, etc. So: 159 probably works just fine.
As for calories: the year I held at maintenance (average 182 pounds), my average calories per day was 2,825. I'm also 6'2", but I don't know if that means anything calorie-wise. I did much more strength training that year--now, I'm just walking (~5 miles day), with some minor calisthenics and stretching in the mix.
I *think* I look healthy--I probably need to do some more strength to build some tone and function, but am going to wait until I lose the next few pounds to do so....
Hope that helps somewhat!4 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I'm really struggling this week with not being able to get back down to 125. I was fine with being in my range last week then I started to pay more attention to Happy Scales telling me I gained 6 pound in 3 months.
It was a struggle to get 125 staying there eludes me at this time. I don't know if I have it in me to cut again. It's just a vanity number that I want attain why I don't know. Thanks for letting me vent.10 -

Successes: another good week with my exercise. It’s now a habit to exercise every day. I’m loving my twice a week yoga class. The Sunday class is free but with a suggested donation to a local charity so it’s win-win. I save money on the yoga class but I get to contribute to a worthy cause. I wimped out on jogging this week because of the cold weather but I’m enjoying my stationary bike with Netflix. Because that doesn’t track steps, I switched my Fitbit goal to number of active minutes. I had 184 active minutes this week.
Challenges: My meals have been healthy BUT there were two days I caved and ate a few squares of dark chocolate before bed. It’s not enough to make me gain weight, but I still don’t like slipping back into the old habit of “secret eating” late at night.5 -

Success: Loss -2.4 after buying Girl Scout cookies from our DGD! I have not bought these for years, I learned to portion control my urges!
Still have 1 1/2 box of Thin Mints. I now eat two not a whole sleeve.
Bought new Toffee kind, like a sugar cookie.
I didn’t enjoy them as much as I used to remember. I think part guilt and part of being on Maintenance keeps me vigilant to not gain over GW.
Being at 177 is a LOT BETTER than eating cookies when I began at 376 in 2013. It took me five years to get at GW 184 in March 2018.8 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I was a bit overeating this weekend, weight probably went up a bit, also my it will be TOM, so I don't really see myself losing that excess water weight. I'm still not sure if I should eat in a deficit this week just in case so at least I don't see the scale going up... Maintaining is way harder than I had thought in advance. This month was more like overeating a few days than cutting a bit on calories the rest of the time to make up for it, but it was a stressful month due to my exams (and I'm a stress eater, lol), so I'm looking forward to February to see how it goes when I don't stress a lot. Wish me luck!9 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I had a really good week. Weight is about the same. Still a little under range, but I'm not worried about it. No real struggles so I guess that is a success.
@nooie19 Don't beat yourself up for having a couple of squares of dark chocolate. There is nothing wrong with having some chocolate before bed if it is fitting into your calorie goal. I understand about the "secret eating" though. I used to do a lot of secret eating and that is one of the reasons I plan to continue logging in maintenance. Eat things you want to eat, just don't be secretive about it. Log it and even plan for it. I eat something chocolate every day. As long as it fits in your calorie goal and isn't replacing all of your nutritious foods then a little treat, even daily is fine.8
