Lanette - When we first met a supermarket shop was very stressful. But we have worn each other down and have got it down to a fine art. "Smooth Operation". I sometimes expect him to read my mind, which is not my brightest idea. He cooked a couple of days when I was sick, but normally I prefer to do it. But at the moment I'd give anything for a private chef! Actually tonight's Hairy Bikers (tv motorbike chefs - Rita) was delicious and we haven't had it for a while because our local shop doesn't sell the "Organic Free Range Skinless Boneless Chicken Thighs" that I like to use for the dish. Chicken breast is too dry.
I don't think he was expecting to go to the supermarket for homewares!!! Also he is a creature of habit and routine and is thrown a bit when circumstances change. We always used to buy a week's veggies and bread, but that is not necessary now. Well, he is 73. He is responsible for the stewed fruit for dessert and breakfast fruit and berries for the muesli which he chops with precision. Today he bought and cooked plums for the first time since we have both been sick. Looking forward to them with homemade yoghurt.
Feeling a bit better tonight. It was nice to put some face on today for the first time in 12 days.

NY Karen ... IF is working for me. I'm not experiencing a lot of hunger during the fasting hours. Although that is dependent on two things ... what I ate during my window the day before and how much energy I've expended in the current day. If I've eaten a lot of gluten type carbs like the stuff I ate for dinner last night (pizza, potstickers, and apple pie), I get some morning hunger at the time I used to eat breakfast. I drink some water and it passes quickly. The days that I spent a lot of energy clearing snow, I found that I was definitely ready for my window to open! I ate what satisfied me and didn't worry to much that my calories were higher ... I had just burned a lot. Most days, if I get pushed past my window, I'm hungry but know that I'm soon going to be able to eat and I will survive!! And I have a hard rule that I end at 7:00pm regardless of when the window opened (unless it was for a special occasion and I delayed the open eating time in preparation). Bottom line... it's all been manageable. I see IF as a tool that also has other health benefits as they relate to fat burning, insulin release, etc.6

Pip -- so jealous for your snow. Of course, we didn't get any. Katla and others on the coast, did you get snow?
Allie -- Your workplace has been full of drama. Perhaps if the doctor gets an office manager he likes and trusts, things will calm down.
Welcome to all. This group of ladies keeps me grounded to my long term goals, even when I slip up in the short term.
I have to leave work early today because no one else is available to pick up the 6th grader from school. I don't mind at all. It will give us some time alone -- maybe we'll run by Dutch Bros and get him a hot cocoa.
I asked about Roma a week or more ago, so I'm assuming no one has seen it yet. My oldest son and I watched it again (for me) and for him the first time this weekend. It really is such a beautiful, well done film. After that, we took a short break and then watched the Ballad of Buster Scruggs (first time for me, a re-watch for him). I am not a Coen brothers fan, but that movie was really wonderful -- six shorts on western themes, including a group in a wagon train heading to the Willamette Valley. If any of you are literature people, Franz Kafka has a short story called "The Hunger Artist," and one of the shorts, "The Meal Ticket," reminded me a lot of that short story, thematically.
My little guy and I "watched" the super bowl yesterday. Not very exciting, but at least we were hanging out together. Although I did leave after the half time show to run to the supermarket. It was a great time to grocery shop! And I still made it back in time for the end of the 4th quarter.
Love to all. Grace and Peace, as well.

I’m finally caught up. January was horrible. February has got to be better. I’ve been consumed with my dad’s 90th birthday party. It was a resounding success. Now I need to marathon prepare for an online class I’m teaching.
I’ll try to keep up better and even comment every now and then.

Alison: Good luck with the changes at work. Sending good thoughts your way. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: We bought the kind of hummingbird feeders that stick onto the windows and they’ve worked well for us, even in cold weather. Our old glass hanging ones would spill in the wind and the liquid that did stay would rapidly freeze. The ones that stick to the windows have less problems with cold and no problems with wind. They're made of plastic, so less possibility of breaking. We bought them at ACE Hardware. The brand name is Perky Pet. They’re also available online. DH made lentil soup last night, too. We can see snow or ice on the higher hills across the river from us in WA. It is chllly here but above freezing. The temperature outside is 35 right now. I suspect you’re at a higher elevation since we’re barely above sea level. :flowerforyou:
Rita: We used to have a different TV provider and there was a regular cooking show from Great Britain called The Hairy Bikers. There were two men who went from place to place on motorcycles and cooked gourmet food for people. I doubt any of it would qualify as low in calories. I’m betting they have a cookbook. I hope your medical appointments go well.
Felicia: We can see snow across the river on the Washington hills but, so far, we don’t have any. :noway:
Dr. Katie: I’m glad to see you’re back. Congratulations on a successful birthday party for your dad.
I went to yoga this morning and enjoyed every minute of it. I also burned a hundred calories on an exercise bike. I hope I’ll be able to go to at least one more yoga class this week, preferably two.

Last week I caught the stomach bug that seems to be going around. Luckily I got over it pretty quick – I feel for all of you who had it longer. Two and a half days was enough for me. It was a good way to lose a couple of pounds, but not something I would recommend! Good thing is, it seems I’ve managed to keep it off even after a weekend of getting back to normal eating. Hopefully they stay away.
This is some freaky weather we’re having. Record low temps middle of last week and then 60’s this past weekend. I went out to the park yesterday just to get outside for a while and it was very crowded with lots of dogs (they have a fairly large dog park there also). We even opened a couple of windows in the house just to air it out a bit. Tomorrow we start to drop again with highs back in the 30’s to 40’s which is more normal for this time of year. The taste of spring has me (and DH) thinking about all the things we need to do in the yard this year. We always say we’re going to do things, but never do. We talked about it a bit yesterday while watching the Super Bowl – had to fill the time somehow, what a boring game! – and tried to figure out exactly what we want. Now we just need to fit it into our budget and get it done.
One of our cats had to be put to sleep last night . DD is taking it pretty hard. Peanut’s (the cat) brother died unexpectedly and very suddenly 3-4 months ago, so when she started throwing up blood on Saturday, DD took her to the vet right away. They did X-rays and blood tests but never could figure out what was wrong. We got a call last night around 11pm that she was getting worse, so DD went to be with her while they put her to sleep. Both of these cats (Peanut and Brat) were ones that we adopted from the humane society that DD volunteers with. We still have 3 other cats but these 2 were the ones she was closest to.
Is it really only Monday?? I’m already ready for the weekend.

Happy National Homemade Soup Day!
"Before the era of modern transportation, soup was a product of regionally available foods. For this reason, there are thousands of soup recipes available today. Many soups also have medicinal purposes. What was once considered a wives’ tale, chicken soup now has the backing of the scientific community with helping relieve the symptoms of the common cold."
Here I am, once again skimming over pages and pages to catch up. My warmest thoughts and hopes go out to everyone who is struggling with health or other worries.
I spent all last week telecommuting from Dad's river house while overseeing the foundation repair contractors. My brother, sister, and brother-in-law came out late in the week to watch, but Friday we got word our cousin had died. So Saturday I drove home to Taylor for the night, then drove to Houston for the funeral Sunday morning. After the funeral I picked up my brother and drove back to the river. The contractor finished today, so this evening I get to drive home again and Wednesday Philip and I will be leaving to go to a professional convention. So... lots of driving, spotty internet, and plenty of chaos in my life right now. I'm hoping the WiFi connection will be better at convention because I'll be trying to work while we're away.
By the time all this is done, I'll be beyond ready to spend some time at home for a change!

(((Tracey & Rita))) Hugs for you both! Y'all seem to be having bad days.
Dreams: It seems like I am always working in my dreams. Either doing school work or house cleaning or helping others. I wake up very tired because I have worked so much in my dreams.
Driving with husband: Mine rants and raves no matter which of us is the driver.
Carol in GA3 -
Janet in E MO: I am so sorry for the loss of your kitty. It is hard when we have to make life decisions for our pets and see to their needs.
Yvonne: I’m planning to make chicken soup for tonight’s dinner. Nobody is sick but we both love homemade chicken soup.
Yoga today was lovely. I’m currently having trouble staying warm enough and am about to put on a few layers before we go and run errands.

well ladies I am home from work...talk about stress... well didnt really have time for that...Mary has taken the helm until we get another office manager.. which gives her power to especially push me.. but we shall see..
I will be working more hours for right now,, until they get the office manager in place...but I laid it on the line with the Dr and told him that Mary and I are sort of like oil and water and she likes to pawn off all the work on me, but think she will be very busy now and I will have to pick up the pace.. work as a team...
I will not get a raise, I will still only get a weeks vacation and that is through April of 2020.. not real pleased about that..but at least I have a job and its close to my home...7 -
So I wouldn't be back if I didn't share a horse picture. Got my boot off my foot today. Was excited not to have it on, but OMG walking in a shoe hurts. I had surgery 6 weeks ago. The removed my archilles from my heel, then removed a bone spur and reattached the archilles. I'll have to go to physical therapy in order to strengthen my ankle and calf muscle again.

Allie - glad you'll be getting more hours (even with Mary ), sorry about the chinzy vacation. A week isn't much considering how long you've been there.
I am curious as to why Allison was let go....she was going to wait until a couple days before she left to give notice. Did she change her mind? Or did the doc catch wind of it somehow?
You are right, with Mary much busier maybe she won't have time to get in your hair.
Are you still helping out that elderly lady in your complex?

My DH loves to shop in any kind of store. He even likes antique shops. In grocery stores he looks at everything hoping to find something new. All The ladies who give out samples know him and he usually buys whatever he samples. I went alone last week and I told him it was lonesome without him.
One of my friends lost her husband last week. He died in his sleep very unexpectantly. So just a reminder to hold on to your guys and enjoy every minute you have together.
While all you peeps up in the NW are getting snow, we had 80 degrees today. I spent 6 hours working in my garden cleaning up winter debris. Very tired tonight so DH fixed dinner for us. What a guy.

Hubs and I are back from a quick trip to Oklahoma for my lifelong friends daughters baby shower. 16 hours in the car (8 Friday on the way up and 8 Saturday on the way home) and 27 hours visiting and attending the shower. Photo below of 3 lifelong friends. I’m the tall one for new ladies.

Barbara – no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t find that hook. But the good news is that I had another one that size at home! I didn’t think that I did.
Heather – I don’t know if its this way over there, but in the US if you drive your car less than a certain number of miles per year, you can get a reduced insurance rate. Like Jess is getting a reduced rate since her car isn’t being driven except when she comes home or if Vince moves it. Last time she was home she said that her car needed an oil change. Personally, how much could she have driven the car in 1 week? I don’t think she realizes that you can drive a car longer with synthetic oil before you need an oil change. It’ll probably be due after the next time she’s home.
Kylia – wonder if that car black hole is related to the dryer black hole?
Exercised, stopped at ACMoore to get a new crochet hook then Ollies since that’s the only place I can get the snack size bags (at a decent price) plus I had a 15% off coupon, then bowling, and guess what I found! Ceramics to pick up my Tweety and start painting the hats for the gnomes (I didn’t realize it went so fast!) then mahjongg.
Tomorrow is clean the house, take the cats to the vet, then pack the car.
Welcome everyone new!
Heather – don’t you just love it when you find the perfect something?
Tracey – we’ll be in FL probably about 3 weeks. Wish it was longer. Well, maybe next year since we won’t have Newcomer stuff
Janet - <crying for you>
Suebdew – so sorry for your friend

Amazon has bought the rights to the Sundance film Brittany Runs A Marathon. It looks so good. I have it marked on my calendar (it becomes available on Amazon in August) to remind me to find it and watch it. About a non-running couch potato who suddenly decides to run a marathon. Comedy. I am sure this will be right up my alley, as my brain forgets about my body and tells me that things like running a marathon would be a great thing for me to do. lol Have any of you seen it?
Are you thinking of running a marathon?
If so, I'd recommend starting to train early and building gradually. I think I jumped into it and built up too quickly.

Off to work this morning
Reminds me of cycling year round in Winnipeg and central Alberta.
In addition to commuting, I did a CAM (Century-a-Month) in 2003, 2005 and 2006 in those locations. In order to do a 100 mile ride each month, it meant I had to ride in the winter months too. 100 mile rides in December, January, February!!
Those were the days!! Kinda glad we don't have those conditions here.

Barbara AHMOD, I hope you didn't get snow or ice down there. I know it's pretty rare, but I think of you out with the dogs. Thanks for the helpful and almost always cheerful posts!
Matchka, I thought you were seeing the doctor Friday. Did I miss a post, or do you need more diagnostics? I'm sorry you need to keep off it so. Is swimming a pissibiluty, or no pool? Gentle or arms-only might give you a little exercise. Please take care!
Your hot curry sounds so good right now in chilly AND snowy Seattle. I cook for one, and all the prep work is a bit beyond me now that I'm recovering from surgery and working. I come home so tired a can only microwave something, take meds and go to bed.
Bianca, could she have matured or changed since the last time you were together? Has your son changed since then? If neither have, then perhaps best to just have the boys say hello and shake hands, then have other things to do. 12-yo do, after all. Think about whether you're willing to put up with her to see him. How does your husband feel about them? This was four years ago. I wouldn't bring it up right away, but wait to see how it plays out. You mention she is from another country. Some countries have very different ideas about twins, also.
Bobeekay, hello and welcome. Let us know where you're from and what you'd like us to call you!
Heather! I am going to call you on the carpet for thinking of how you're feeling as self-pity. Since you didn't get a diagnosis, there's noknowing just how serious it was, but from the sound of the symptoms you've both experienced I'd say it was DAMN serious! If anything, you minimize things. Please be sensible and take things s bit slower. Pushing the envelope the way you've been doing could have nasty consequences. I like the person I've gotten to know a little on here too much to entertain that thought.
Kylia, my go-to proteins are canned light and dark chicken in broth, turkey meatballs, sardines in water, NOT albacore (too dry!), But ordinary tuna in water, cottage cheese, eggs, plain yogur, or tilapia. I mix them with salsa, or Pico de gallo, or soft cooked veggies, laughing cow light cheese, non-fat mayo, mustard, broth, bone broth, plain ol' salt (just a little), fresh fruit, applesauce. I'm still learning. I want to make split pea soup. I live that and lentil soup canned. I cook most of my veggies more than the bag says and take out 1/2-1/4 cup as needed. I avoid cheese most days, but had a tbsp. of parnesan with chicken broth, Lt and dark canned chicken and welk-cooked Brussels sprouts. This would be great with broccoli. I weigh EVERYTHING. I log EVERYTHING. So far it's worked well.
It's lovely up here in the snow, but I'm trapped until our steep snowy, icy road thaws a bit. Meanwhile, please take care of yourselves.

8+ inches of snow here in Snohomish WA. Ice underneath. DD stayed home from work today and will probably go in late tomorrow. They closed the warehouse where she works today. Nessa the labradoodle had a ball in the snow but sure did a number on my kitchen floor dragging it in on her feet and face.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -
Wesseg: I hope PT goes well. Love the photo of you with your blue eyed horse.
Barbie: Great snow photo! We have a little on the ground now & I wonder what morning will bring. :flowerforyou:
Becca: Your snow photo is lovely!
SueBDew in TX: This snow is sort of a novelty for our area. Right now it is beautiful. I hope it doesn’t stay long enough to wear out its welcome. :noway:
Michele: I love Tweetie Bird!!!
Machka: Sending positive thoughts for your MRI. I hope things are looking better.
Sue in WA: Enjoy the snow! Right now we have a smattering. We will see what tomorrow morning looks like. Fortunately, we don’t have to be anywhere unless we really want to go someplace, and we have an AWD car if it is snowy or slick.
Our dog is on antibiotics for an infection and needs a pill every 12 hours. I’m getting organized so that I will have my intervals more accurate and have set an alarm on my phone for 7 am and 7 pm. I’ve been getting the right number of pills per day, but needed to improve my timing. I think this will work.
