Hi everyone who wants to read my post. I’m struggling to lose weight. I’m fat and I feel so ugly and I think I need help. How can I get skinny? I do a 7.9 km walk 4-7days a week and I eat less but I’m struggling to lose more weight. I use to be 57kg when on heavy drugs and then after quitting I went up slowly to 126kg and after being put on heaps of medication. I’m now 83kg exactly today and I’m 5’9 which is 175cm tall. How many people think I’m really fat like I think? I know I’m overweight that’s why I’m asking for help

You're not as fat as you think, you're only about 30ish pounds away from a healthy range for your height. To lose weight you need to track accurately, and to do that you need to weigh what you're eating. If you don't have a food scale, get one. Especially as you get closer to your goal accuracy is going to be super important. Figure out which macro helps you feel full longer since that will also help you stick to your goals. Get adequate protein and eat back a portion of exercise calories. Do that for 4-6 weeks and see what happens.20

I do not think you’re fat, most importantly let me applaud you for being off substances! I’d say, it’s normal to gain weight when coming off of drugs. Honestly, put more focus into seeing the positive changes, where you are currently and working towards self goals. If you begin to change your perception on the process, you can find the process more enjoyable.
The walking is good, I’d try to up the walking into a jog or find ways to up the cardio (biking, treadmill, elliptical) also adding weights can help. Also don’t be consumed with “eating less”, I’d be more interested in what you’re eating.

Thank you everyone. I feel I’m not doing good enough and I feel I don’t look good enough7

You're definitely in the overweight category on the BMI chart, you're not obese though. My BMI is higher than yours but I feel skinny lol.3
-
OP - I’m sure you know this already but your target weight is right at the bottom of a “healthy” BMI. For most people this is hard to achieve and harder to maintain. You may be better off with a higher target weight and looking into “recomp” - building muscle which will make you look leaner than the scale suggests.

You need to adjust your goal, your expectations and your haste. This is a marathon and not a sprint.
Congrats on getting off the drugs. That's a major accomplishment. Even at a higher weight, you're much healthier than when you were skinny and using.10 -

This kind of thinking is indicative of something better sorted out with therapy than weight loss. Please look after you mental health as well as physical through this process. Many people here can tell you, losing weight doesn't automatically solve all your problems. You're just a smaller person with the same issues. Hugs!24 -
Walking is great exercise but you need to add weights/resistance exercise. If you want to shed pounds and tone up including weight bearing exercise to your daily regimen will be a great addition.
Muscle burns way more calories than fat and you don't need to become "muscular" to do it. Just strengthening muscles can lead to a leaner look and burn more calories.
Just remember to track your calories and opt for more protein versus carbs.
If you don't want to go to the gym, try looking for a set of used "free weights" online. There are also a number of good videos online that show you how to add resistance exercises (weight bearing) without having to spend money.
P.S. feeling fat or looking fat is an emotional response and the more you get moving, the more those feelings subside. Forget about what everyone else thinks. It's what's inside that counts and the people who know and care about you don't regard you as "fat".
As the wise and powerful Yoda once said "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter (the flesh)"18 -
Hey good morning @ashleygroizard - First, congrats on getting off the drugs, and second, you're doing the right thing by looking for feedback rather than going back to the drugs.
Next - I promise you, some of the people you see who you think have it all together...have much worse problems than you do. You see an ugly girl who isn't good enough. I see a beautiful young woman who is only slightly off of where she may want to be. We don't know each other at all, I (nor anyone else responding) have any reason to lie to you. So start being a bit more kind to yourself, because everyone who is here came here looking for answers because we were, or are, somewhere physically we don't want to be. Me included lol.
Get some help getting your head straight, whether N.A. or a therapist or just a close friend you trust who won't hurt and use you. I would never have gotten sober if it weren't for a lot of help from other people.
Keep working with the suggestions folks here give you. I won't name names, because quite frankly there are too many to name but you'll get some solid, honest feedback and answers here.
Stick with it. You can do this.21 -

You are slightly overweight - 83 kg at 175 height is a bmi of just over 27.
You need to lose about 7 kg or 15 lb to get into healthy weight range, maybe a bit more to get perfect weight for you.
57kg is only just above the lower cut off point of 18.6.
I don't think you should aim for such a low weight. Aim to lose 15 - 20 lb and then gain fitness/ body tone if you want to.
As the amount you need to lose is small, progress will be slow. Expect it to take at least 3 - 4 months.10 -

I’m now down to 77kgs so I’m 1kg off a healthy bmi. My therapist and doctor told me I’m not overweight at 82kgs. And my therapist also told me European and English and German people can have a overweight bmi but really be a normal weight. I am English. What weight do you recommend I should go for?0 -

76 kg.
I think your energy would be better spent addressing your unrealistic view of your own body, if you still have the extremely negative views you expressed in your earlier post.8 -

Good. You have done well.
I'm not sure how 82 kg would not be slightly over weight for you - same as it was in my last post.
I think you should aim to lose, in total, 15 - 20lb, or 7 - 9 kg - that is including what you have already lost so, yes I agree with Lynn - to about 76kg.
Same as in my last post to you.
am not aware of English/German/European people having a higher BMI range, that doesnt sound right to me at all - I expect the charts were made on caucasian people so the normal healthy BMI range applies to you.

I am 77kgs now. I’m not sure how the bmi can get an exact reading when everyone has different size body frames. What size body frame does it go off?2 -
Hello OP and well done on all your achievements. As none of us have seen you in real life and the BMI charts are a range (for a reason), am not sure we should be telling you anything, particularly as you in the range. I wonder if you may be looking subsconsciously for some negative reinforcement of how you view yourself ? It may be difficult to absorb the amazing progress you have already made. There are a range of views on here from looking good giiirl to lose another whatever - professionals you are working with are also giving their views and it sounds like none it has squarely landed with you. This is not a criticism of you at all - and I suspect you have more strength than you even know. But as suggested above, perhaps working on the mental health side of things for a bit while continuing to be kind to yourself may get you the result you are after, with or without a change in weight.3
-
Yes, that is why healthy bmi is a range, not an exact number.
You are a Caucasian woman of normal ' body type' ie you are not an outlier like an amputee, a person with dwarfism, etc
Your ideal weight will be somewhere within the standard bmi healthy range.4 -
You look really cute in your picture!! When I looked at it, I didn't see an "overweight" person at all. Lose what you need to get into the normal BMI range and then work out to reshape your body to a more desirable image for youself--but be safe, well, and realistic!6

Your other posts are usually about this same thing. Do you have a therapist or a team to help you? A lot of people on the internet cannot give you the help/validation you are looking for.16

How do I do that?3 -

Yeah at 82kgs and even at 78kgs what I am now is overweight you are right. I got down to 76.7kgs but I’ve gone back up to 78.5kg I don’t understand why this has happened. For some reason the weight loss goes up and down and up and down on the scales and I seem to be stuck from 76.7-78.5kgs why is this? I can’t seem to get my weight moving down past 76.7kgs and I’ve been trying really hard to eat less and move more but my weight keeps from 76.7-78.5kgs. Why is this happening? Your probably right the bmi does apply to me. Almost at a healthy bmi on the heavier side4 -

I am seeing a therapist as I have low self esteem and I hate my body and shape and my stomach. It’s weird because I was actually not worried about my weight when I was bigger. But I have realised I need to improve my body image and health and fitness so I can get to a healthy bmi.4 -

That is entirely normal weight fluctuations caused by non-fat changes such as fluid retention and bowel movements.
Scale fluctuations are mentioned in several of the 'sticky' threads. I know people have referred you to them before; have you not looked at them yet?
