Congrats. That is such an accomplishment. Your an inspiration to us all. We hate feeling that way to.2 -

You have already done very wel with your decrease in drinking. Don't short change your hard efforts. 👍2 -
@Balbie123 we absolutely love supportive spouses. Glad you were able to refrain even with pizza near.3

A first for me- 5 AF days last week! And when I did drink, I couldn’t finish the first one, and only had one last night.
Went out to a comedy club Friday night, and I had seltzer with cranberry instead of a drink. I’m enough of a wine snob to not drink it out of a plastic cup, but I could have had a gin and tonic, and I didn’t !
Ran into someone we know, who has always been a heavy drinker. Well, she just REEKED of alcohol! Like, it was coming out of her pores.
Yet another downside to drinking too much. I would never have even thought of this! Seriously, who knew?

April accountability ~6 days so far
No Alcohol: 2 days
Alcohol: 4 days (9 drinks)
Goal: AF days 4 per week / 16 per month
You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. - John C. MaxwellWhat a big change in my life … 2016-2018 I could not count my AF days … it was 2-5 glasses per night or other drink usually 6-7 nights per week. Loving the change I’ve made in 2019 and it is helping the numbers on the scale go down.Challenging week ahead
Apr 1 - AF
Apr 2 - AF
Apr 3 - 2 glasses of wine. Dinner at home with DH instead of going to new bar with Sisters Who Sip.
Apr 4 - 1 glass of wine w/ DH and 2 at Bunco. Slipped on that daily goal! Bunco: Plan 1 glass wine I’ve got to learn to stop at 1 at social events when there are multiple open bottles!
Apr 5 - 3 glasses of wine (did not start with the beer before hand with DH which is a win) @ camp ... drank a bottle of water before bed then out in boat fishing early this morning.
Apr 6 - 1 beer at 4pm fishing off the dock @ camp. WIN did not open the bottle of wine for dinner.

No alcohol until July 1st.... haven't drank since 4-1-20197

Yesterday I hit a big milestone for myself. 90 days AF. My goal now has been 100 but I am changing that to 120 days AF which I will hit on May 6th. Yesterday was my daughter’s birthday and it was the first time I was sober on her birthday since the day she was born. It was an amazing day and so much fun.7

I am going to continue with my goal of 4AF days per week.
Weight loss is my main motivator.
April 1 - AF
April 2 - AF
April 3 - AF
April 4 - 3 drinks
April 5 - AF - super glad to have this forum to check in to for accountability, it really does stop me some days when I have had crazy days at work and really feel like having drinks.
April 06 - 3 drinks, and up 1.6 pounds in one day from it. All the more reason for AF days : - )
Running total: 4AF days out of 6 days5 -

First time golfing for the season, and no alcohol for me! Easy enough to do on my Wednesday morning league, but on a Sunday afternoon, riding around with a drink is par for the course- no pun intended. Ok maybe a little!
Dilemma: my guest really wanted a drink (yep, that’s been me plenty of times, wondering where the heck the drink cart guy was ). So I got her her wine and me my AF drink. She asked me what I had, and I didn’t lie. I think I made her feel like a lush because she was the only one in our foursome drinking. My intent was not to make her feel bad!
Should I have told a white lie to make her feel better? I hate to lie, would rather be up front. Thoughts? How do you handle the feelings of others who are not on our journey?7 -
@Womona I think you did the right thing ... this is not a journey to make others feel better or explain ourselves. Nothing to hide. If you had started down the path of little white lies you might start believing them and settling down into this one won't hurt ... I'll do it for them.
You did GREAT!

Since April 1st:
- 7 days AF. New record for the last 20 years (I'm 39). And it's probably not even close.
- 8 Workouts. I'm doing the Lift 4 and playing basketball. I was 202 on 4/1 and expect the weight to melt off if I keep this up for another couple of weeks.
- 1 half gallon of chocolate marmellow ice cream. No regrets here!
- 1 sober Saturday night where I grilled wings and ate dinner with my 2 sons while we watched the NCAA tournament
9 -
today’s plan. Don't buy a bottle.
4/1 – I had one heck of a Sunday. Back on the wagon today.
4/2 – AF – ate like a pig
4/3 – AF – kid pissed me off and I wanted a drink so badly. Kid??? 21-year-old toddler is more like it!!!
4/4 – I let the toddlers stupid behavior get to me. Needed a day/night without grinding teeth from anger.
4/5 – first time drinking 2 days in a row. I do feel like I am failing at reaching my goal and I only had 2 weeks left.
4/8 – had a wonderful weekend fishing, drinking and 2 all you can eat buffets. Time to crack the whip for a day. Tomorrow is my B-day so probably going out for beer and wings!

I think I’ve finally decided that 4 AF days and weekend drinking is not going to help me achieve my goals. Last week I lost two pounds eating well and staying AF during the week but then I gained it back over the weekend enjoying too much wine and snacks to go with it. This has been a yo-yo pattern for awhile. New goal is to go AF and see what I can achieve if I focus for a full week!12

April Week 1: total weekly consumption: 19 (yikes too much)
4/1-2 (actually my cheat day but I stopped at 2)
4/2-2
4/3-2
4/4-2
4/5-5 (bad move #1:bought sparkling dry rose and it was incredibly delicious, my downfall each and every time, convinced myself I had to finish it otherwise it would go flat. LOL ; bad move #2: dinner time delayed by 3 hours, waiting on spouse)
4/6-2
4/7-4 (bad move - dinner time delayed by 2 hours)
Had a good chat with my spouse and he agreed I need to stick to my 5:30 pm dinner eating schedule and not wait for him, otherwise I wind up repeatedly doing the same bad behaviors - both eating late at night and drinking too much because I am hungry and anxious from waiting to eat.
This week has to be better. Have to get a good game plan for managing those Fridays and Sundays which also are my typical problem days.6 -
I found this group Saturday morning after a night of bad choices on Friday. Tired of seeing my good progress with workouts and calorie counting get sabotaged by drinks in the evening. Goal is AF 5 days per week.
April 7 - AF9 -
Wow I lost track of what day I'm even on so I had to recount the days, but I'm on day 24 AF. I was hoping the weekend sugar cravings would go away but they have not and it seems to be getting worse! I usually don't track my calories on here because I wasn't really trying to lose much weight lately, but I think I will track now for the next several weeks, just to make sure I don't gain the weight back that I lost initially when I stopped drinking.8
-
Gave up wine on 6th March, but do have about 3, 4 max G&Ts each night. When I hit day 14 I had a bottle of wine, no particular reason, I just did. Stayed off it until Saturday night and again on Sunday .. again no real reason not too happy about it but will now focus on the next two weeks.
I guess 3 bottles in 33 days is not the bad really compared to the 66 bottles it would have been if I had not decided to quit wine!!!! ... perspective :-)11 -
April week #1: 3 days out of 7 AF. One short of my goal.
I've been exercising a lot more and finally getting some warmer weather here in New England so feeling pretty good!
Unfortunately yesterday was a perfect day for yard work which means I do a bit of yard cleanup while drinking 12 beers apparently. Setting a secondary goal of not having a hangover on Monday again. Crappy way to start the work week!
Goals:
4 days AF
Don't get hammered on Sunday

My husband and I were cutting back together. He gave up on that though, because he had terrible insomnia. It is harder by myself, and I have been backsliding some. But! I am still better off than I was. For instance, last night, I had two beers, thought about a third, and then thought, "no, I have an early morning tomorrow, and I will regret that." 2 beers is not AF, but to limit to two, and care what I would feel like in the morning, is major progress.12

Apr 9 - Plan AF - Alumnae meeting theme “Learn the Art of Cocktails” with plenty of wine too: Plan just skip this month! Way to tempting and easy to go beyond my limits as well as the drive is 20 miles each way.4 -
Day 8 of AF April. I got to hang out on the back porch and listen to my 4 year be amazed by the stars. I wonder how many other "little things" I might have missed because I'd forget it in the morning? Oh well, I can't change the past but hopefully I can keep finding these new reasons to not get blasted all the time!10

@mckinlau that is the conclusion I have come to also. This madness has got to stop!
@CG3559 Welcome!! Finding this thread has been one of the best things for my health. I am learning so much!
@Petajamieson I get ya....there's progress, but as we progress, our actions don't feel like we've accomplished something because we still feel like crud. Remembering where we came from is helpful to our future progress. That's my thought
@FeelinFooFoo I love your stories.....it feels so real. I am very thankful you have turned that boat around!! Happy sailing!!
@Balbie123 Your on the right track
@marcvb35 Happy Birthday!! I hope your birthday is one you can look back on tomorrow and feel pretty damn good about yourself.
Man it's great to be back on this thread...…..bad week last week, weekend was waisted away from a Friday night wine party. I KNEW that was a bad idea. Then!! When I was throwing up Sunday night......guess what came up first.... the 4 beers I had......yep...…...not feeling like drinking again yet. Man I hope that feeling holds because I am SO TIRED of this feeling and being unhappy with myself.
My thoughts now are...…….I can't even do 3 beers a night during the work week. 0. Maybe even 0 all together!! That's what I think I want...…..but then I think...…..girls day out on May 4th...a couple of glasses at lunch won't hurt. Oh what sickness this alcohol has over me. I must conqueror!!!
Have a great day you all!!
Teri

I wasn't sure what I was going to do after the 30 days of the Alcohol Experiment. I'm on day 22 of that right now. Part of the experiment allows you to write in a daily journal about anything and I've been doing that pretty much every day and I like doing it. So after the experiment is done I'm going to continue to write in a journal daily. Every day I'm going to think of and write about a time when I got drunk. And I'll ask myself questions like was it fun, was it worth it, did I embarrass myself, did I embarrass someone else? Hopefully it'll help prevent me from going back to drinking several days a week. It's worth a shot!9
