What are the first things you threw out when you started your WLJ?

Mine: snack cakes and chips/dips. It was hard but I gave them a proper funeral.

Sugar, gluten, dairy, meat and anything white. I have intolerances so a few of those shouldn’t have been in my diet anyway lol18
-
Food. Out of sight, out of mind.10
-
Excuses.
(If I'm not honest about the reality, I can't fix the issue.)35 -
I wouldn't say I threw anything out, but I usually try to use up most of my high calorie foods/snacks before I start cutting (nuts, full fat dairy, dried fruit, cookies, donuts, croissants, juice, cakes, ice cream). Otherwise I try to freeze them if I can.4

I didn't throw anything out (except a few containers of moldy leftovers), I just started weighing and measuring the portions as I finished up what was in the fridge.21

Gumdrops1

BREAD. Not only is it a binge trigger, it does nothing for me except make me want more. Even "good" breads like Ezekiel were a detriment for me rather than a benefit.16
-
Nothing. Though I did reduce how much bread and fried food I eat10

All of my tops/shirts that were already pretty baggy because I knew I wouldn't need those again.
Food wise, I've always been the type to only buy what I'll eat that week, so there was no big need for change. Mostly I went out for lattes and ice cream a lot less.13 -
I was going to cut out certain foods, but eventually I didn't see the point in stopping eating them and took a different route. Moderation. I still have snacks, the occasional large bag of crisps, I still eat chips and pizza, burgers, chocolate, ice creams. But everything within moderation, rather than scoffing or having more than what I need. And balance it with exercise. I want something naughty, get my *kitten* on the exercise bike or go for a ride, lift some weights. Nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for hard work.
22 (proper) days in, 2.5kg down and it's still dropping off.14 -

If it works for you, great, but I feel so much better not eating unhealthy foods. No more acid reflux either which I've been suffering for for 15-20 years. Dropped 59 lbs so far since April.

Sodas ...used to drink 6 or more a day.. and Texas cinammon rolls everyday in the morning.

Cookies and sweet potato pie.4

Nothing, I'm a hoarder.7
-
Bread (even the whole grain), chips, pasta.5

Anything after 7 pm
Anything I can't measure the calories with confidence, such as dinner at a restaurant that doesn't have its nutritional info online
Everything else is a go, as long as it fits into the # for the day.5 -

is this directed at me? I think losing 59 lbs so far is fixing the issue, not making excuses. WOO! haha
No. It's what I had to give up at first to lose, which I believe was your question. Not directed at anyone.17 -

Me either.5 -
I started a moderate carb, low sodium diet. I was eating over 4,000 mg of sodium a day and had high blood pressure. So I gave away all my frozen, processed foods with high sodium content. It was a bit of dollars down the drain, but my folks were happy to have the free food!2

I had to throw out all the misinformation that people told me about weight loss like... “you need to follow X diet to lose weight”, “you need to do cleanses to jump start your weight loss”, “you have to eat these certain foods for weight loss”, “these diet pills will melt the fat away”, “you’re hypothyroid and middle aged so it’s impossible for you to lose weight”, “you need to stop eating all processed food to lose weight”, “fasting is all you need to do”, “juicing is the best way to lose weight”, etc, etc, etc.
Good old fashioned eat less & move more plus patience, patience, patience got the job done. Been maintaining for almost 6 years now and have never been healthier and happier!28 -
I didn't throw anything out, because my husband was not on a diet, and he still wanted to eat the junk food. I was more likely to buy different, possible healthier, items for myself, rather than actually throwing anything away. I did stop eating a lot of the breads, pastas, chips, and desserts. I started eating more salad and fruit and protein yogurt for snacks.4
-
I didn’t throw anything out, but I totally quit eating sweets and salty snacks for about 2 months. Until a very smart person here advised me that all foods in moderation are possible. Game changer for me.8
-
Nothing. I just ate it less often.6
-
Nothing except sugar drinks. I have been hammering down sparkling drinks (ie bubly) like there is no tomorrow though as a canned soft drink replacement.
I try and keep my junk food intake to around 500 of my 2200 calories per day. I have been eating a lot less candy as I prefer chips over the former.4 -
Dr. Pepper (the full calorie variety). And a baaaad gummy bear habit.
I mean I picked up Coke Zero, so....7 -
I didn't throw out anything but as time went on the list of foods I was no longer buying much of was growing as was the list of different foods I was buying. Any change I made was gradual and I still had other members of the household that wanted their treats.4
