I'm in Louisiana, so a good chicken and sausage gumbo is where it's at. I have some in the fridge now!2

Its Canadian Thanksgiving today and that means....leftover Turkey Soup. Yummy. Lemon Orzo is probably my fave...but Tomato, and a good chunky chicken would also be up there. I avoid the creamy soups for the most part, but once in awhile a mushroom goes down nicely!0

One of many favorites is Northwest style clam chowder. Essentially a flavorful broth with a few vegetables (potato, celery, etc), and whole clams in the shell. Kind of like a bowl of steamers with a lot more soup. I think this is similar to Rhode Island style chowder, but that's with shucked clams. A well-made Manhattan style chowder is also good, but you must try this one.
One of my favorite restaurants is over on the coast. They make a Fishwive's Stew that's to die for. It's a huge pile of all kinds of seafood (crab, shrimp, scallops, clams, prawns, and various kinds of fish) in a bowl with some broth. Yeah, it's $35. Share it with a friend. I don't treat myself to it very often for OBVIOUS reasons. I mean there was a joke in the Blues Brothers about the soup being $20. But I'll just say... it's got that much seafood in it.

My favorite soup (to make - I've never seen it at a restaurant) is curried pumpkin and coconut milk soup. Made with onion, spinach, broth, a little lemon juice, protein of choice, and (obviously) curry paste, coconut milk, and a pumpkin or similar squash. Carrots and other veggies like zucchini are an optional addition. I like to put half the pumpkin at the beginning with the onions, and let it cook till it disintegrates to give the soup flavor. The other half goes in with the rest of the veggies as chunks. It's delicious! I usually eat it with rice.2

Tomato soup and grilled cheese is always a favorite. And I always have the makings for it at home.
I also like a good creamy potato soup or a good tortilla soup.2 -

I do it from memory nowadays - roughly it is fry up some onion (and or garlic), add celery stick if you have one handy, add a heaped tbsp generic curry powder or paste ( or more if you like spicey food, I use more...) , add chopped parsnip (say 5 small or 3 large) and one cored medium apple (cooking apple best, but I use whatever I have handy) and then boil up and simmer with 2 pints or so of liquid (I use chicken stock - cube or ‘done properly’ and milk) with a bay leaf and seasoning. It is pretty quick to cook through. Sometimes I add butter or cream. Or potato. Blend.
If you like I can look up a ‘real’ recipe - I do most of my cooking by eye/taste not recipe, but that looks about right! Hope you like it...2 -
Aha the top bit of the quote has disappeared - my post is a rough recipe for ‘curried parsnip and apple soup’!0
