Less Alcohol - NOVEMBER 2019 - One Day at a Time

@MissMay good for you for not giving in! That seems like such a toxic situation! I also read the article you posted above and one particular sentence stuck out and made me think. "Alcohol is a toxin, and our bodies adapt to metabolize and deal with it." I know this, but to say to your body "I know I am doing this to you, just deal with it" is a sobering thought.
I wasn't a good drinker yesterday. Four drinks, too fast, not needed. That is the most I have had in months, and I can feel it today. I know I have to pick myself up and move forward, and I will, but for now, I am going to focus too much on my fail because that is how my brain is wired. Cheers to the weekend, mine will be alcohol free.6 -
Yes @lilann1961, I read that also and of course know it as well. If it were not for having livers in our bodies a sip of alcohol would more than likely kill us within hours. That is why liver damage is so sad. Not only alcohol but inhaled toxins such as fumes do not get filtered when the liver is not healthy.
New day for you. I am sure it will be a much brighter one 😎.5 -
@anglilacs sorry you hafta have surgery, hope it all goes smoothly 💗 @MissMay that family sounds like something out of a crazy Christmas movie! That'd stress me the kitten out! On the vertigo I get it when TOM is starting/going on and I defo think(for me) it's a peri symptom hope you get some relief,I'm sorry I can't remember the OP and it's a pain on the phone to scroll back and remember the exact username 😩 6:48 am in Vegas another 24,had a terrible drinking dream this morning as I was waking up,it's the same as in real life when I debated with myself 😒 glad I woke up so I don't know the outcome haha! Have a fab day all5

@dawnbgethealthy thank you so much for sharing your experience, it helped me to understand mine more. I think mine was also due to a crystal floating around, it was so sudden, no warning, lucky for me I was sitting at the time. I am back at work today, a little drained, and feeling a little off, but so much better. I don't know how you dealt with it for 6 months and then a second round. So good that you found a doctor that knew exactly how to help you!
@anglilacs I am way past TOMs. I am sorry that you also get Vertigo, what do you do to make it better? (I also have that problem if I am trying to enter replies on my phone, gets so frustrating!
@MissMay I know that I drank way too much on Saturday, maybe I also had a Vertigo episode at the time, but I think it was mostly due to the TQ. Maybe the fall dislodged the crystal??? Don't know, just know I don't want to experience either of these again.
Thank you everyone for your kind words and your shares. It is nice to know that I can come here to sound off sometimes, and I will get some great feedback from you. I hope I can be of some support to you too!4 -
@MissMay Wow, what a terrible ordeal for you to go through! Punched, Choked, and then, just sorry, they were drinking too much, and expected to come back in the morning to open gifts!!! I totally understand you not wanting to be anywhere near them! Your Husband should understand this too, and support your mental health.
Something similar happened many moons ago between my 1st husband had his father, his father started drinking as soon as I left to go play bingo with his step Mom. Husband, and our 2 very young Sons stayed at the house. When we came back home from bingo, his father had him on the ground, punching and choking him, by boys were hiding out in one of the bedrooms... we packed up and drove home. 9 hour trip from Northern back down to Southern CA. We did not see him again after that, until his funeral.3 -
Really struggling this month. October I went completely sober with my husband, and November we aimed to drink but much less than we used to. Unfortunately I have not been able to stick with it. No surprise my weight has gone up and my craving for bad/excessive foods have as well. Mentally my mood has been all over the place, and my only comfort still seems to be high-calorie, fatty foods that don't fit into my daily goals.
Thinking about going drastic for 2020 and being completely sober. I don't know if I can/want to do so, but it seems to be the most effective thing for steady weight loss and maintenance7 -
@ellie117 I am right there with you.
7 -
My goal is 16-20 AF days for the month.
I didn't get there in October, ended up with 10 or 11AF days. Daily drinking is so very easy to slip back into!
November 15 - AF
November 16 - A bunch of red wine (not my drink of choice) at a girlfriend's who invited me for Lasagna. Although I had one glass or two glasses each night in Dallas, it made me feel lovely. Did not feel lovely, thought that I was going to puke, did not feel well in the morning.
November 17 - AF
November 18 - AF
November 19 - Tuesday, 3 drinks. I like my decision to allow myself drinks on stressful Tuesdays, I haven't always had drinks on Tuesdays since starting this, but mostly.
November 20 - AF - getting towards that 16-20 AF days : - )
November 21 - AF - really really felt like having drinks, had a long stressful workday. I managed to resist.
November 21 - 3 drinks - nope, haven't had 4AF days in a row yet since joining this challenge, hadn't really occurred to me. Kind of happy to get 2 in a row once in awhile though. I made a drink before I even got out of my work clothes today!
Running tally 13AF days out of 22 days so far.3 -
@looneycatblue
Wow, how traumatizing for your sons!! So sorry that happened!
I am curious to know now how your sons view alcohol, I expect that they are fully grown now. Do they ever talk about the incident?
Yikes!0 -

@dawnbgethealthy --- in this part of your post the other day
-November 16 - A bunch of red wine-
I misread A as A the abbreviation for alcohol. And was looking quickly for another A.
One in a row, two in a row or three....all good 😊2 -
@whitpauly that sounds horrible to have a drinking dream. More like a nightmare. At least you knew it was a dream. When I drank heavy I would not be able to tell if it were a dream or not. 🤐4
-
Drinking sucks. It's a poison that can kill someone physically, emotionally and spiritually.5
-
@looneycatblue family can ruin a holiday quicker than a bad friend, I have come to realize. Sorry for your own experience with the FIL. And for your young boys. I have the same question as @dawnbgethealthy about the boys.
When I was very young, my maternal GrandFather would be drunk at every family holiday, birthday, etc. I would dread, as a kid, knowing he was going to show up. There was always some kind of drama from him being in that condition that rolled right into the next gathering. Ugh.

All our bodies are different and react different when cutting back and wanting to drop the pounds. Don't lose faith yet.4 -
14 out of 22 AF days! When I went out to dinner twice this week, I only had one each time. I definitely feel the one glass!5

They were very young, 3 and 5, we never talked about it again, I am not sure if they remember, maybe I should ask them. They are 36 and 39 now. My oldest is very conservative, he enjoys making specialty drinks for his friends, but doesn't drink much himself, I don't think that he has ever been drunk. My youngest has been more experimental, starting around 16, got into some trouble, nothing too serious. However at 18 he became his father's punching bag, this was my last straw, and we separated and divorced. Unfortunately about 2 years later my Sons father passed away. My boys had and still have many emotions that they need to work through. Thank you for asking.5 -

Welcome @Whydahdad71. It, like so many other things we put into our bodies are known to take a toll on us if we allow it to become out of control. That is why we choose to have less. Being mindful and responsible for our liquid consumptions.6 -

Well said 💗 6:36 am in Vegas another 24,hope everyone has a wonderful day!4 -
i drank alcohol as a teenager and into my late 20's. I stopped drinking any alcohol March 5th 2001. Unfortunately I have struggled not with alcohol but food as a comfort. I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so it has really been a blessing in a odd way. Its like now I have to choose to eat healthy so its a good thing in a way. But i want you all to know we all have our struggles Im praying for everyone here. I lost my Father at age 2 (never knew him) he was a severe alcoholic and also 3 years ago lost my brother at age 56 to alcohol. Also my mother in law was severe alcoholic she has since passed. Im so glad to hear the great success please keep up the good fight. In Christ and your faith in his finished work at the cross YOU will have the victory. I like to to say "IF we don't quit God won't quit." So no matter how many times you fall GET UP! Cant fight if your not in the ring! I didn't hear no bell!!! love all of you!5

Oh geez, so it cycled, your ex's father beat him up, and then he did the same to his son, your boy.
Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Big hugs.4 -
Family stuff is so tough. My husbands family is also very dramatic. Not abusive thank goodness, but they are dealing with alcohol abuse and it’s hard to watch. My husbands father is an alcoholic but stopping drinking 20 years ago. My BIL is now close to losing his family over alcohol. The weird thing is that the whole family is behind BIL saying he’s fine and doesn’t have a problem (because he’s not like drinking when he wakes up), but my thought is that if the drinking is causing issues in your marriage - is it worth it? It’s amazing that the substance that we all love/hate can cause so much damage. Anyway, I’m on day 10 no wine. 2.5 pounds down without changing anything else. Hope you all have a good weekend. I’m going to a vow renewal party for from friends today and normally would be drinking but today I’ll be the DD I’m not worried about it and finding the longer I go without the less I want it. Cheers!8

927 days! This poem helped me get through some of the hardest days and reminds me the reason I want to drink will only be magnified if I do.
I drank for joy and became miserable.
I drank to be outgoing and became self centered.
I drank to be sociable and became lonely.
I drank for friendship and made enemies.
I drank to soften sorrow and wallowed in self-pity.
I drank for sleep and awakened without rest.
I drank for strength and felt weak.
I drank for relaxation and got the shakes.
I drank for confidence and felt unsure
I drank for courage and became afraid
I drank for assurance and became doubtful
I drank to forget thoughts and had blackouts
I drank for conversation and tied my tongue
I drank to be in heaven and I came to know hell
I drank to forget and became haunted
I drank for freedom and became a slave (of alcohol)
I drank to ease problems and saw them multiply
I drank to cope with life and invited death.
I drank because I had the 'right' to and everything turned out wrong.
Said this fellow, 'It must have taken a bunch of booze to get you in this shape?
I said, 'Just one. For me one is too many and a thousand isn't enough.'8 -
Last Sunday of November, yes @dawnbgethealthy it did seem to go by quickly.
@syrupspew congratulations on your 2.5 years AF. Thank you for sharing this poem with us. It is truely eye opening to read.
I was reading our local newspaper Friday night. There is a section weekly that let's you know the police and court reports. Glancing through each week I find more and more DWI, Domestic abuses and injuries treated at hospital because of alcohol.
Please everyone if you have some drinks....do not operate a motor vehicle.
....do not become abusive to your friends or family.
.....do not feel invincible and try to be a super hero.
Many out of town people come here to our area during the holiday season only to read about themselves in the district court section. As in the poem @syrupspew posted, I am sure many of them listed in the court cases were hoping for joy but found misery.
Drink responsible, not only for yourself but for everyone around you.

Yup @MissMay there's been a TON of felony DUI incidents here lately where people are driving drunk and killing people, most of the drivers have been young and that makes me sad too cuz now their lives are ruined as well as the victims and the families, such a tragedy especially in these days cuz Uber and Lyft are SO cheap! 6:29 in Vegas another 24 💖 hope everyone has a wonderful day!5
-
Hi, just found this group. Looks great for me as I try to limit alcohol. Sending good thoughts to all.7
-
Nice to have you joining in @tim201200. Yes we are here to be accountable for the amount of alcohol we choose to drink. We all have our own degree of cutting back that we are striving for.
Chime in anytime.5
