Hi @Kabbij, welcome.
I started running with C25K in January 2018, in March 2019 I ran a half marathon in 2hr 11min. Stick with it, it is possible. When I started, running for 1 whole minute was a real hard slog and made my lungs burn.
I had suffered injury in June 2019, so didn't run for 3 months. I've gradually started building back up, but I lost a lot of my cardio fitness. I'm not starting completely from scratch, but it really feels like it at the moment. I'm starting to panic as I signed up for another half marathon on 8th March and I don't have long to get back in shape for it. Eeek! Losing this weight I've put on should help greatly!
I do Parkruns too, but only from May-ish onwards when it's not so muddy and wet. I hate getting my trainers mucky.9 -
I was able to find 2 sports bras for $5 each and a pair of nice leggings for $15 at a local discount store (similar to marshalls, tj maxx, ross's, etc.). I've been looking for some gym clothes because I only have 2 pairs of durable leggings right now and 1 sports bra, so its a pain to be washing them constantly. I'm planning on starting going to the gym again this week. Its been a few months since I've gone.
I also have an Oculus Quest being delivered today, so I'll be playing Beat Saber a lot. I'll also be getting Audica and BoxVR probably. My friend plays Beat Saber for an hour or so a day and burns a lot of calories. "VR Health Institute tested Beat Saber and said it burns between 6 to 8 calories a minute and is compared to the intensity of game of tennis."9 -
I am crying tears of joy right now! I am under 235 pounds! I weighed in this morning and I am now 234.8 pounds! When I started this journey I simply wanted to loose a 1/2 pound a week! I’ve lost a little more than that on average and I’m just feeling so very blessed!!
Have a wonderful wonderful day everyone!!!29 -
“Success does not happen by accident, but by habit. We have to be intentional in our interactions not only with others but ourselves." George Couros
I have worked to establish habits to help myself attain and maintain weight loss. Let’s keep it up!12 -
While I didn't stay within my calories this weekend, I did dutifully log. We were busy, but it was a good busy and I feel we got a lot done. Trying to make some changes in my life that aid my mental health as well as my physical. We have way too much on our plates, including some health mysteries with my 10 yr old, so it is necessary. As I round the bend to 40 this year, I have realized I really can't and shouldn't say "yes" to everything. I really need to say "yes" to myself and the well being of my kids, husband and household. For example, I have fostered dogs for the last six years. The director is incredibly difficult and while I was good at managing it for many years (including myself and other fosters/volunteers), I realize I just cannot anymore. I have to realize who my friends actually are, and who is toxic. Plus, we are hardly ever home. So when my foster dog gets her forever home this Friday, we are stepping back and regrouping. I know I will go back to it some day, probably sooner than later, but that was one area I could say "enough" to. I cannot dedicate enough time right now to properly condition and train a shelter dog, and it isn't fair to anyone involved. So I am focusing on my health, my husband and kids' health, and enjoying my own pets for awhile. It has to be enough. Today is technically my Monday, so everyone have a great week!12

@estherpotter1 are there other changes you could try before an appetite suppressant? Tell us what you are doing to lose weight (calorie goal, exercise, and what you typically eat); I am sure the group will have a lot of suggestions. I know increasing low fat protein was really good for me to not feel hungry. And I feel comfortable eating protein even if I am over my calorie goal if I am actually hungry.4 -
I saw this on another thread and it addresses concerns raised here so reposting (with credit to @tinkerbellang83)

Check in #3
January 2020 Goals
Lose- 10lbs
Exercise- 18 out of 31 days
Cardio- 20 miles/month
Water- 100oz/day
Food- 1200/rest days 1600 workout days (This was the diet given by my doctor)
Original SW- 280.6lbs
January SW- 262.8
1/6 Weigh in- 259.6 (-3.2lbs)
1/13 weigh in- 258.4(-1.2)
1/29 weigh in- 257.4 (-1)
Exercise days-10 out of 19days
Cardio- 24.5 miles
Water is a struggle
My weight loss slowed down even after meticulously measuring and weighing food so switched to a low carb alternative for this week. Added additional weight training and cut back a little on cardio.
With 11 days to go I don’t see me hitting my goal weight for the month but I’m refusing to give up. I’ll keep adjusting my diet and exercise till I find what works for my body. No slip ups. No back peddling.
We got this!8 -
@aliciap0116 that's great! I use mfp and reddit and I see people freaking out over stuff like that on a regular basis.
@Jenfromtheblock84 you're doing great! I gotta take a page from your book and up my exercising! And even if there are slip ups, that's life and we just gotta keep trying 😊7 -

Today I weighed in at 192 even! That puts me at only 2lbs above my lowest since starting. My goal was to reach 190 by the end of the month to erase the 8lbs I quickly gained over the holidays. Hopefully I can still reach it, it’ll be close. I never want to fall off the bandwagon for a full month again. It’s too easy to do it, but now I’m aware of what’s “too far” when it comes to leniency. Once I reach 189, that’ll be 50 pounds lost! I’m so excited for that milestone. I was one pound off before I sacrificed myself. I will not do that again. 2020 will be the year of pushing through the goals, not sliding back. I’m so happy for everyone’s progress!
@BrownSugar174 that’s awesome!! What a milestone and great start to the day.
@aliciap0116 great insight! Thanks for sharing.
@lilann1961 you can get back on track. Weekends are hard but if you have a clear vision for your goals, you can hold yourself to them.11 -
I think I caught up to everyone! So many new faces, it's great Today is my 100th day of logging in! It really made me reflect on what I have learned these last 100 days and I'm feeling good. I'm 25lbs down and plan on continuing, I've learned what I need to fuel my body and how to resist my cravings, and I've learned to forgive myself when mistakes happen. I can't wait for the next 100 days to see where I am. Thank you to everyone who has supported me or given me a kind word throughout this. I owe a lot to this thread and the encouragement that comes from it.
@mmdeveau, great job on meeting your January goals! I hope things get better with the neighbor soon. Also, props to surviving restaurant week, all of it sounds absolutely delicious.
@MuttiNM,I feel like losing weight is a roller coaster of emotions, sometimes you have the highs with losing weight and then the lows with binging or feeling like you could have done better. We are all here for each other.
@HurleyHurley, I hope this week is going better for you, that sounds exhausting. Great job on the loss!
@speyerj, thank you for sharing that, that was great motivation to read.
@theleadmare, I also suffer with IBS! It can be debilitating some days not knowing what is going to set your stomach off. Mine is pretty severe so often if I am having a bad stomach day, it is bland foods and resting all day as any movement shoots pain everywhere. I was so frustrated with having IBS for an extremely long time, especially because doctors just made me feel like it was in my head and I was not having as bad of pain as I was saying--at least they thought that until they finally ran tests and could confirm. We can do this.
@Savannah80, to echo everyone else's comments, it is common for a big loss the first week or two and then it steadies out. It doesn't make you a failure or mean you did anything wrong, your body is now just adjusting to your new activity and lifestyle.
@AmethystEFC, great loss! it's hard to keep on track when life gets busy, but it is so worth it.
@fitchick37, sounds like a great plan! Sometimes you just need those rest days and your body makes sure you get them.
@Angelfire365, welcome
@orangequilt, great week!
@suziieq44, wow, I wish that every single day haha! That is a great loss though. Sunday is also my day off, it gives me a chance to relax and get ready for the week ahead.
@vegasgirl0825, getting in any type of movement is beneficial, even if it is not the entire hour you want it to be.
@OksanaMaliarClark, nice loss, it looks like you're having a steady decrease!
@mfpphoenixx, welcome! We are happy to have you, I'm happy to hear you have found a renewed sense of hope. It sounds like you're setting yourself up with success by surrounding yourself with support.
@Aerohead21, congrats on making it 7 weeks! That is no easy feat.
@BrownSugar174, I love the positive quotes you share! Also AMAZING! I am so happy for you. You've worked so hard.
@eahrenee, welcome!
@Angelfire365, sounds like you have a plan in place and know what you need to do to make it happen. We are here for support!
@estherpotter1, losing weight can be frustrating. I'm not sure if seeing a doctor is an option for you, just to get a health exam and make sure there isn't other reasons you may not be losing weight? Again, just my advice, I am in no way a medical professional.
@kali31337, sodium really gets me, too. I purposefully do not weigh the day after I have had a lot of it because I know I will get discouraged. It will go back down, it just takes time unfortunately.
@Kabbij, well hi! Charts seems like a great idea, and if it works for you keep it going. I also started with small exercises and worked my way up because I did not want to overwhelm myself and give up.
@pamiede, what a great quote, thank you for sharing.
@lilann1961, sounds like you are setting some solid boundaries and doing what is best for yourself and your family.
@aliciap0116, thank you for sharing! I often have to remind myself of this.
@Jenfromtheblock84, even if you don't make the exact goal you wanted, you still made great progress.
@gonna_reach_the_goal33, that is great progress you made and a great way to view what happened, it's a lesson you learned and now you know how to prevent it from happening again.8 -
Running behind this morning and still haven't ate but want to share my measurement check in I just did. Will read and respond after food lol.
Today I finally hit 20lbs lost!! Since beginning in October my BMI is down 3.4, Body Fat down 3.2, and I've lost 9.75 inches. I also went from Class II Obese to Class I. Happy Happy Happy!!14 -
@Terytha I freaking love ice cream! Just goes to show that we all have our thing. I don't have a sweet tooth really, cookies, chocolate, cake, donuts etc are all things that I won't look at twice, but ice cream is the sweet thing that I can't resist (I stopped buying it altogether since I can't resist).
@triiinyoung I had a similar experience at the end of the year. The important thing is getting back on track and not letting that hold us back. In all reality you and I will have more slip-ups, what we do after those slip ups will determine our success.
@kali31337 Keep at it, weight loss is not always linear. If you know you are doing your part then the weight will come off when its ready to.
@Kabbij You have a plan! Good luck meeting your goals
@rhaiin I love getting workout clothes!
@BrownSugar174 Way to go!!! Very happy for you
@pamiede great quote, resonates with me so much. "Success does not happen by accident"
@lilann1961 You should absolutely put your health and your family first. I also at times put too much on my plate and that leads to stress and bad choices.
@aliciap0116 Great graphic, I do an official weekly weigh-in for this reason, to focus on the trend and not necessarily the day to day number since so many factors can cause it to rise and fall but not necessarily indicate fat loss. I really need to get a tape measure and take my measurements so I can also use that a reference.
@Jenfromtheblock84 Keep at it, no need to give up, you have made progress! I think its ok to readjust goals to both keep you motivated and to still have something to strive for even if your original goal didn't go as planned.
@gonna_reach_the_goal33 How exciting! Do you have a plan to celebrate your 50lb loss?
@torihudson6 Congrats on the 100 days and 25 pounds! You have worked your butt off and inspired me when I was in a bad place. Did you do anything/get anything to celebrate 25lbs down?
I had not the best weekend in terms of eating, but I did log everything. 3 months ago I would have binged and it would have been my little secret. If I can't be accountable to myself then who can I be accountable to? I chose to log everything and that helped me get back on track the next day. A few times I thought about grabbing some fries really quick while out driving but then would have a talk with myself to see if I REALLY wanted them and it always came back to no. For me, just having some think time to really think about how the food would make me feel and if thats what I want to do was enough to make a better decision. Weigh-in is tomorrow, I had a some nice drops the first 2 weeks but I think tomorrow will be a smaller drop (if any). Will report back tomorrow, hope everyone has a good one.

So fitting after my post this morning! Thank you for this!!4 -
@Reachbrenda Congrats on hitting Onederland! You are doing wonderful even with all the travel and holidays.
@mfpphoenixx I'm happy you've found renewed hope and inspiration. You've got great plan laid out and I know sticking with it will get you results. As the weight comes off you may have to lower the weekly loss goals. I've learned that as we lose things goes at a much slower pace.Happy 40th and here's to hitting those new goals.
@speyerj I didn't know temperature had an effect of digital scales. I've been using aktibmi app so I can see trends in weight changes in relation to my food diary. It's interesting to see how things change day to day.
@Aerohead21 Congrats on your loss and I hope your energy levels are improving with so much starting up. 74lbs is awesome!! I'm looking at bmi as a "maybe" goal. If I'm happy at little higher than recommended that will be ok. I plan on listening to my body and how I feel.
@BrownSugar174 Thanks for sharing your old journal entries. Imagine how exciting it's going to be adding in about all your health changes. So happy for your new under 235 self!! Your commitment and outlook are such boosters to keeping me motivated.
@triiinyoung You can do it. Set realistic goals and work on improving a little each day. When days are tough come read threads for inspiration. Most of all be honest and kind to yourself during the process.
@Angelfire365 Exercise is a great extra benefit for getting a few calories throughout the day and improving your overall health but not necessary for loss. Until then stick with your calorie goals. Use clothes fit plus measurements to give you an idea on how you doing until you can get a scale.
@Kabbij Using the charts is a great idea to help you plan out things. It's amazing that you've got so far ahead all ready to go. Between that and the goals you have set I can see success in your future. I don't like feeling deprived either so finding foods that satisfy my cravings but are low calorie helps. I'm a chocolate lover too.
@Savannah80 You'll make that marathon just stay focused and working on your fitness.
@rhaiin Nice find on your new workout clothes. I'm old and admit I had to google Oculus Quest lol. Someone else mentioned the Beat Saber so I had to know. That sounds like a fun way to burn calories.
@pamiede Love the quote! We can have unhealthy or healthy habits. Each is a choice we make daily.
@lilann1961 Taking a step back sounds like a much needed thing and no reason you need to say yes to everyone/everything. When you our own personal cup is empty it isn't possible be there for others. I try to remember flight instructions about putting your own oxygen mask on first before assisting someone else. I hope you find answers to your son's health issue soon.
@aliciap0116 Perfect reminder about scale fluctuations.
@Jenfromtheblock84 Don't sweat if your monthly goal isn't met. Any amount loss is a step forward. Some of the slower change could be due to the reasons in alicia's post. Keep following your calorie guidelines, eat half of exercise back, and you will be fine. I have to keep telling myself I didn't gain all this weight overnight and I'm certainly not going to lose it that way.
@gonna_reach_the_goal33 You are getting so close to 50lb loss...I can't wait to celebrate with you!!
@torihudson6 100 days and 25lbs whoop whoop!! I know with all that new knowledge about what works for you the next 100 are going to awesome.
@sharpdust "If I can't be accountable to myself then who can I be accountable to? " So much truth in that statement. Just because we don't log properly doesn't mean we didn't eat it. Great work on talking with yourself to see if/why you wanted to grab fries etc. I think learning the why eating is important. I got into a bored eating mood the other day. Instead of grabbing something I cleaned and organized my pantry. The feeling of accomplishing a much needed chore was way better than the feeling I could have gotten after mindless eating.
I was able to get 10m on elliptical this morning. Not my usual 20 and also dropped back down on the resistance. Last couple of minutes were tough. Another friend and I were talking about sciatica pain. She mentioned using the tens unit. I'm like duh I have one of those somewhere. Normally the problem is only a few days but this time has been over a week. Used that baby last night and things were well enough to get the small session in today. Now it is beside my bed so I can remember to use it.

It has been a rough week with the funeral and a late family Christmas gathering. I did manage to lose a little bit, but I am finding it hard to get back in the groove. And I gave in and ate all the sweets, and now I have to detox.......AGAIN. Why do I do that to myself??9
-
@momx4hill a number of us went through that with/after the holidays. It's worth asking why we do what we do to better understand ourselves and learn but don't beat yourself up. You're back here, still working it, and that's what matters - what you do next. We are all here to support you!
@terytha ice cream is the best. If I could eat no other food for the rest of my life, that would be it, hands down. Followed by pizza or mac n cheese. Funny how we are all different yet so the same!8 -
@estherpotter1 - I understand being impatient. I understand wanting to find something that will make this easier or faster. I suspect most of us have tried this supplement or that diet, or this cycle of eating and fasting to try to make the scale move. But here's the question to ask yourself. Do you want just lose weight, or do you want to keep the weight off once it's lost? Any changes you make to support losing weight really ought to be changes that you can continue to practice once the weight is gone. And if appetite suppressants helps you lose, then what will happen when you stop taking them?
The first time I lost 100 pounds, I didn't realize it at the time, but I really was thinking short term. I couldn't wait to reach my goal weight so I could go back to "living my life". I dreamed of the trips to Popeye's and the Cheesecake Factory that I was going to make. I thought there was a beginning, middle and end to this story. But the hard pill to swallow is that weight management is never going to stop. So there's no need to rush the process. Think about adding one new healthy habit a month that might help move the scale in the direction you want to go. Maybe it's more consistent and accurate logging. Maybe it's switching up your macros to help you feel more satisfied, maybe its getting 10000 steps a day, or getting consistent sleep. Whatever it is, make is something you can keep doing when you hit your goal weight.10 -
@sharpdust, wow, what a kind thing to say. I actually ordered some new workout leggings online! Which is considered a "splurge" for me. And even if it wasn't the best weekend, at least you logged it all and started over the next day.
@bluffgirl67, thank you! It's hard to believe it's been 100 days already.
@momx4hill, echoing what @aliciap0116 said--it's a process, you can do this.
@speyerj, great advice. It's really easy to view weight loss that way and not realize it is something long-term that you have to keep up.
4 -
@speyerj, I am working on viewing it as being just a condition I have, and it requires a certain way of living for the rest of my life to prevent it getting problematic again.8

SW: 204lbs
Just started my journey
Height: 5'2
It’s been a few years since I’ve worked at weight loss. As of Jan 20th, 2020.... I’m starting again.
My goals are to continue to lose each week, even if it’s just a 1-2 lbs. I want to stick to working out and getting my body moving atleast 10-15 daily until I can form some type of solid discipline then start a more rigorous routine.
I also have a goal of working to build my confidence as I make these changes and to be patient along the way.
Nice to meet ya all😊13 -

@momx4hill All of us have those moments of giving in to urges esp during stressful or celebratory times. That's how life works and this journey is about making life long changes. Your ability to get back on track is an important part of the process. Congrats on your loss. I know you can get back to it.
@majesticdj Welcome and I love your goal to build more confidence.
@fitchick37 You are doing great!! That 10lb loss will be showing up soon.
Today is yoga/strength day and I'm so looking forward to stretching. I feel like I slept curled up in a tight ball all night. I hope everyone has a great day.5 -

Happy to see the scale move! I have been able to get in my water ever day and also I did push to do more activity so feeling pretty good about that. Not at the level I want to be or probably should be at but progress! I have to remind myself I am not competing against anyone but myself. Our goals are all pretty similar but our journeys will take us on different paths to get there! It's nice to have a place where we can voice our struggles and successes! Have a wonderful day ladies!!12 -
@theleadmare I just had a whoosh this morning, after creeping up a pound last week. The scale loves to play games!8
-
@majesticdj Welcome! You have great goals and I have no doubt you will meet them! You have found a wonderful group of ladies in this thread! I have been on my journey for nine months and I still have to remind myself occasionally to have patience. This is not a sprint but a marathon. I didn't get this way over night and it wont come off over night. I have learned to celebrate the small things and to enjoy the journey. It's not a temporary thing it's a lifestyle change! Again welcome and look forward to seeing more posts from you!!6
-
Mini check-in: I've been dealing with a lot of hunger throughout each day still and will work on finding new meal ideas for lunches and dinners when I have time this weekend.6
