Depth Year - UpdatesI definitely have way too much stuff. I need to streamline my existence, resist adding more stuff, and start using what I have already got. I have been working towards doing this for several years with my decluttering. I need to stop the march of consumerism, and putting money into the pockets of other people by buying things I want rather than actually need.Daily Goals
03 Jan: This is going to be way harder than I thought. Need to work out strategies and guidelines for what I can and cannot purchase.- I have a stack of books which I haven't read. I will read one of those book a month, and not buy any more books this year. I will source any other books I want to read at the library.
- Book 1: The Illusionists - Rosie Thomas ✅
- Book 2: Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, Gail Honeyman✅
- Book 3: Nothern Lights Ch 8
- I have closets full of clothes that no longer fit. I will work my way through them over the next two months, and either alter them to fit, or donate them to charity.
- 07 Jan: One bag already full and ready to go to the charity shop
- I have a lot of Craft supplies. I will optimise what I have before I buy any new supplies. Sticking to this one will be difficult.
- 07 Jan: Depth Year: I have Patchwork Craft this morning. I will pick out one of my ongoing projects and work on it to completion. No new projects until I have finished at least 3 ongoing ones.
- 14 Jan: Craft Group: working on patchwork project from last Tues.
- Food: log All food and drink; stay under goal; balance macros/micros; Hydrate adequately; NLNS!!!
- Exercise: Knee Physio; 7,500+ Steps daily; 30 + minutes intentional exercise
- Other: Daily Mindfulness Practice/Meditation; Practice Self-care; Positively reframe thoughts; Live! Love! Learn!; 15 mins Daily Declutter session; keep up to date with chores

Universities in my area are going online-only. I'm kind of glad that I am not teaching right now, as it is not so easy to flip from in-person to an online format overnight. Our governor just outlawed gatherings of over 250 people starting today.
My current job in state government is considered essential, so it looks like we are not going to get time off. Working from home is technically possible, but I don't think that anybody is working on setting that up. There is talk of staggered schedules, but I don't see that happening soon. I am in a rural area with no COVID-19 cases at present, but we have them in every county around me. I am taking a wait-and-see approach. I am not sure how much having chronic health issues puts me at increased risk. My parents who are both nearing 80 and immune compromised are basically holed up and planning not to leave their home for a couple of months. Really they have to do that every winter because people are so careless in spreading the flu.4 -
My work is going forward with a major event with international presenters and guests. I've staggered the seats so everyone is separate but I'm half expecting it'll be cancelled last minute. Either way this is just more work load and more anxiety and you can feel the stress pouring off everyone.3

I agree in biscuits and gravy not being good, I do know what it is though I have travelled in the States a bit.
@Bex953172 - I was 18 when I moved to Toronto from small town New Brunswick. I only had three stations on tv growing up and really didn’t know a lot about the world. Anyway, one of my bosses when I started working was from England. She calls me and asks me to “knock her up in the morning”. I didn’t know what to make of it. In my teenage mind, knock her up meant her her pregnant. Lol

Went and had my eyes tested tonight, it’s been about 2 years since I had them tested last time, about the time that I started on this board.
Anyway my wonderful new benefits makes glasses so affordable! I ordered a pair and should have them in a couple weeks.
Sorry I can’t find time to respond to everyone, I am reading religiously though.Snowflake1968 wrote: »@kathsk53 - what part of Canada are you in?

Hi all,
Nothing too fancy to report. I had a pretty balanced day with clients and some time to catch up on things. Got to chat with some friends tonight and that was nice. Heading to bed early again! @beachwalker99 aren't you proud! Thinking of everyone affected by COVID right now. G'night all!
@TerriRichardson112 Shamrock me for today please (12)!
@beachwalker99 That sounds so stressful. Proud of you for being responsible and safe. I'm happy to send you my # if you're bored and need someone to text with! How long will you need to self-isolate for? I supposed it depends on if the student tests positive or negative. You're in my thoughts, and hopefully you'll get good news.

Sunday's bane of my existence is still on. We are JUST skirting under the number the Feds have given as a no go. I spent an hour redoing the seating assignments so everyone had a good bubble of space. I wouldn't be stunned if it got cancelled tomorrow but we have only a few cancellations so far. Most people feel pretty untouchable I guess. I don't consider this a positive.

Catching up on posts tonight. I'll try to set some goals tomorrow.
@SERmom3 – I teach writing and research courses at a community college, so I don’t have quite as many challenges as my colleagues teaching lab courses. Each of our courses already has an online component where I post materials and assignments, and students submit their work to online drop-boxes. Our classes are set up as writers’ workshops, so there’s a lot of interaction and students get feedback while they work. It’s the interactive part that’s hard to replicate in an online environment. I’ll still provide feedback and set up discussion groups, but the conversations are often less fluid and limited in scope. Switching over midway through the semester will be challenging, but at least we’ve established relationships within the class that should help the online interactions go a bit more smoothly.
Everything seems to be changing so quickly, with plans upended and so much uncertainty. It’s got to be disappointing for the kids and difficult for worried, over-stretched parents. At least there’s some relief in knowing that children aren’t being hit so hard with this virus.
@Kuhl50 – My heart belongs to the Tenth Doctor. Still waiting to get my invitation to travel through space and time. Now would be great!
@HEGoddard0928 – I love your mini goals. Often I start out with an overly-ambitious list of all the things I should do and then get bummed out when I don’t complete them. Or some tasks just seem daunting, so I procrastinate and create bigger problems for myself. Maybe now that I have some down time I'll try out some mini goals.
@azulvioleta6 – Can you ask your doc for advice and possibly a note for HR if your health issues make going into the office more risky for you? If it’s an ADA issue, your company will have to provide an accommodation. (My sister is immune compromised. Her physician insisted on giving her one a couple of weeks ago.) Hoping all goes well for your parents and they can remain in good spirits.
@mytime6630 – Keeping you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers. I know this must be such a tense time. Hoping your husband's treatment goes smoothly.
@jeschepp – I am super proud of you! You’re rocking this challenge! Today felt like a snow day. I spent a good part of the day checking in with family and reading up on all manner of things from disinfection procedures to how interacting with robots can provide emotional benefits. Didn’t get much productive work done, and I’m up way past my bedtime. But I will undoubtedly get bored (so I may take you up on your offer). And hopefully I'll get motivated to do some actual work. I think it’s this sense of being in limbo that’s thrown me off.

Strange to go into a nearly empty work today. Had success with a virtual workshop, nice to get our tools working. Still on track for eating and exercise, but boy when at home and at a table near the kitchen all that food calls me. I may have to set up a desk in my daughter’s old room at the back of the house to survive these next weeks/months.

Things are ramping up here too. I'm now required to take my laptop home every day in case a case is detected and everyone has to self-isolate. This means no running to work anymore; don't want to be running with a laptop. I'm going to try to work from home more instead as then I can go for a run at lunch and also I can reduce my exposure to the underground which is clearly a breeding ground for all bugs... (Although apparently Transport for London is stepping up its cleaning and switching to hospital style disinfecting).
Trying not to get too freaked out about the whole thing. I am probably pretty low risk given my age, though I do have asthma and I don't know if that raises my risk at all. I haven't found very clear information on that. My asthma is pretty mild though so it's probably not an issue. More concerned about my mum though who is 69 and still ploughing on with everything as normal including on Saturday when she will be singing in a concert for several hundred people! I'm really hoping the organisers have the brains to cancel it. Most of the audience tend to be older so it feels like a very stupid idea to go ahead with it. Why is it so difficult to get parents to take care of themselves?!
Anyway, it's sunny, and it's Friday. Happy Friday everyone!

Hey team,
Mixed news today-I found out that credentialing for the job I'm applying to takes about 4 months, and I can't start until that is set. That is much longer than I expected for starting the job, but I'm trying to look at it as a positive. This will give me more time to prepare, let my current work know, transition my clients, find a place, etc. The positive is that I found a great suit for my (to be determined) interview! I have a phone call with the recruiter on Tuesday morning before work, and I have NO idea what that call will entail so I'll need to do some research. Had a good day shopping with my sisters and then dinner with my bestie, so all in all a good day.
@TerriRichardson112 Shamrock me! (7th) thanks!
@Faebert Look at all those awesome checks! Nice work!
@Bex953172 Haha that is an excellent picture. Miss you and hearing your stories, friend.
@beachwalker99 Congrats on the flowers! Planning to sleep in tomorrow and re-set my sleep goals for the week (bed by 10, up at 6).

Hugs to all those in the path of Covid-19 ~ take care of yourselves! A few confirmed cases in my state (WI) but none within 100 miles. Both governor and my community declared a public health emergency. The annual fundraiser I was to attend tomorrow night was postponed, free village band concert on Monday canceled, and 10K race I'm registered for at the end of the month is presently taking a wait-and-see approach, but probably will cancel. Life as we know it is definitely changed.

@beachwalker99 I've been a fan of DW since the very first series with William Hartnell. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for DT myself. Also loved Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. Most of the DW actors hav been stalwarts of British TV.
@osier5 You joined when you posted. 😂 Welcome to our happy band.
It's been a glorious day here. I even got an outdoor walk in with DH. Steps are already approaching 11000!
@bookmeister86 I've seen the parent thing from both sides. DMiL and my own dad were very independent, and headstrong as they got older. Now I'm the miscreant! Mind you, we do look after our health, but ocan be a little stubborn from time to time.
As Carmela said, take care of yourselves. It's a strange situation we are dealing with. 💕💖💕3 -

Really they have to do that every winter because people are so careless in spreading the flu.
They were thinking of closing the schools near me for a month, also currently in a non COVID19 area (as far as I'm aware).
Over here people have also panic-buyed. It's very hard to buy hand soap and the idea of buying sanitizer is just laughable, there's non anywhere!
I personally hate when people are careless about others when they're ill as well! I hate it when my kids get sickness bugs from school because then everyone in the house gets it!
I hope you and your parents stay well
