Holiday weight spike!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season. How much did you gain (if anything)?
I ate and drank everything I could get my hands on and gained about 5lbs since about 12/21. In addition to high consumption, I had a cold and stopped exercising for a week.
I'm going to be curious how fast it comes back off! And, I want to drop about an extra 5lbs.

I was actually expecting and allowing myself to gain around 2-3 lbs on Thanksgiving and Christmas but stayed same on T-day and actually lost after Christmas holidays. Although, I did keep up with exercise each day and just sampled all the food and desserts. Happy New Year!8

I "gained" 5 pounds in one week, but I know it was just water weight because when I snapped back into my routine it all went away the next week. I didn't expect to gain any at all because I didn't have many holiday parties to attend, but there were... ahem... a couple of significant mistakes made at home involving chocolate and red wine. I have another ten pounds to lose before I hit my goal, but am back on track now and trying not to dwell on the misstep.12

I gained 2 lbs at Christmas, which disappeared the following days, and 2 lbs again at New Year's, which is already going down now. I ate 1300kcal above maintenance in total for the three holidays combined, so it's just a little blip for me, a few weeks delay.
My biggest issue is the hunger. For several days after these large meals, I'm a lot hungrier, so some discipline is required.8 -
I got flu but not til AFTER Boxing day! and maintained my weight.3

I was up .6 lbs right after Christmas, which was still in my maintenance range. But, with exercise and normal eating, I am back down.2

I am up a whopping 10 pounds! But I just let the holiday depression kick in and ate my way though. Back on track now, and not doing that ever again!!

I actually dropped 3lbs because I wasn't working out consistently. Now it's back, phew.2

Up about 4lbs but I was well under my upper weight limit before Christmas so I'm in "the OK zone".
A bit less to lose this year to get to my best cycling weight compared to most years.8 -
I am "up" 4 lbs after all the holiday eating! I managed to stay at maintenance calories for most of it and did not go over by much when I did
I am not quite maintaining weight yet so the jump is from going from deficit mode to maintenance so more water weight and food in my system...Hoping to lose another 13 pounds.7 -
The usual whacky water weight/digestive contents after holiday eating events, up to 3ish pound jumps a few times from one day to the next. But Libra trendline (60 day smoothing) slooowwwly creeping down as intended over about past 3 months, though near flat (maybe -0.1 pound?) over December.
I'm routinely a peaky (uneven) eater, so multi-pound fluctuations from one day to the next are a routine thing. What matters for maintenance is averages, though, right? Year 5 of maintenance begins sometime in 2020.7 -

I'm in the WTF zone! Getting a cold over the holidays making me stop exercising has really had it's effect. And, there were the many craft beers we were trading around at our various parties.
BTW: It is getting hard to find a craft beer with less than 5% alcohol these days in the US. It is very in vogue to make them >7% ABV (many as high as 9% and a few higher). This makes them nearly twice as caloric and, IMHO, not any better tasting!8 -

I've had some wild swings over the past week, most of which - given reasonably accurate logging - can be chalked up to water weight. It's not so much the calories as it is the sodium; yesterday, I was 1K under for calories (too worn out after work to eat when I got home), but had 5 grams of sodium. My trend line is slightly higher than early December, but still beneath my maintenance range.3

I had one day of gluttony on Xmas day and it took a week to return to my previous weight. That's ok, I planned for that and I feel good.9

up 3 lbs but not too bad since I was sick 10 days with a cold and we went out of town, should be back to normal in about a week.4

Love this thread, feel a bit better about my last month. I'm up 4-5 lbs. No way could I not be after friends coming to town and we ate out at several chi chi places with awesome food and dessert. It was almost (was) worth every tasty bite! Back to discipline and home cooking. Happy new year--everyone.8

I was up 2.4lbs after Christmas.... I'm back on plan now, but I did eat chinese food for New Year's Eve... I'm weighing in on Saturday morning, so we'll see if it came back off or not. I'm doing intermittent fasting and it really helps me to bank my calories for celebrations so I can actually enjoy some foodzzzz.....other wise at 5'9" I can easily breath in 10 lbs---no joke there.... 5 lbs aint so bad!
I'm sick the last 2 days... so that is slowing down my workouts and forced me to take a rest day on the 1st--- painfully...I had to do it...but I was ruined by this cold I have.
Try not to sweat the holiday gain though--- it's part of the process ---you have to live a little---and then work it off...you got this!!!

I stopped tracking for Christmas and Boxing day and didn't care - put on 2kg (4.5 pounds). It went away again by the next week6

I gained 5 lbs or so (hadn’t weighed myself for several weeks until today so not totally sure). I totally asked for it though. Had beers almost every night the last week and a bit and of course holiday treats. I now weigh the most I’ve ever weighed (mind you only by two lbs) which is exactly the kick in the *kitten* I needed to get back on track.4

I was around 54.6kg / 55kg at the beginning of December. I went up as high as 57+kg towards end of December, but i went back into a normal routine from boxing Day so as of today I'm back around 55.2kg and almost back to maintenance weight.6

Yes, this! I'd not clocked it before, but this year has been amazingly noticeable. (Though, being female of middle age, I have other factors influencing my hunger...)
Happy Scale says: I'm weighing just over 1 kg more than my lowest December rate. It's very slow going down, but I'm pretty sure I know why (sleep being a huge part, for me.) Still at about 4 kg over the high end of my maintenance range, 7 over actual goal weight. Hoping to hit those before my 42nd birthday in March.5 -
I gained 1.6 pounds, and was really surprised that was all! Now it's time to get back to it!2

I weighed in at the low point of my maintenance range Christmas morning and was on plan except for husband's birthday and new years (also anniversary). I enjoyed more wine than planned and then, less inhibited, leftover pizza the kids brought home. It was a big unplanned splurge (~1000kcal), but not too big for a moderate deficit to bring it in at maintenance for the week. I too was waylaid by a cold and skipped strength training for almost 2 weeks and cardio several days. I'm more concerned about losing strength than weight gain (still in maintenance range).
I haven't noticed being a lot hungrier after a big meal, but I definitely notice being hungrier the day after drinking more than usual or eating late. Sticking with good habits really saves effort in the long run.

I gained about 3 lbs from Christmas week through New Years Day. I ate everything I wanted in decent moderation thanks to months of healthy habit building. Those of us who cook most did cut down the menu and also modified some things (less salt, sugar and butter, more grains etc.) we did cook to be healthier than in the past. That said most in my family enjoy sweets and there we’re plenty made and eaten by me. Back on the walks and/or treadmill after some time off as well so that feels good. Still in my maintenance range (which I just hit my low end target 2 days befor Thanksgiving!) All good here! Happy New Year to everyone! I hope everyone reaches their personal goals this year and has the best health possible!5

Before Christmas (12/20) I was 151.4 and Monday morning (12/30) I was 159.6. Yes... you read that correctly. I knew a good amount was sodium/water weight as my body grabs hold of it like crazy. BUT I also knew some was actual weight gain too. Back to my regular workouts and healthier eating since Monday morning and as of this morning (Friday, 1/3) I am 151.2 All gain is GONE and a tad more. Returning to my healthier habits caused my digestive system to claim WAR and for 3.5 days this week my stomach was in turmoil trying to adjust. <~~ Just one of the many reasons I could never go back to the eating habits I used to keep when I was more than 100 lbs heavier.9

up roughly 3lbs but I expect it to drop back down relatively quickly, I had more food than usual and a lot of salt, I was expecting a spike (2 christmas meals - one with each set of grandparents, new years, and then my dad's birthday.. not to mention everyone baking cake, cookies, etc)
I'm sticking to a slight deficit and more water until I get back to the same weight as before holidays5 -
I have no idea ...
I only landed back in the UK last night after two weeks away. I’ll not be hopping on the scale until tomorrow as I always retain water when flying. Whatever the “damage”, and there will be some, I’ll just snap back into proper eating and strict logging for a few weeks. I’ve already done my weeks menu plan and shopping list this morning.5
