There is always going to be something we can catch. I think the flu kills a lot more people than some of these things that show up and freaks us out. Lets just have another Corona and chill. Cheers.8

This is true. People get so hyped up about everything. Unless you travel to that area of China, the chance of exposure is minuscule, plus it is a virus like any other.1 -
Mask won’t help.

This is my opinion on panic.
Comes from the Dune series, but someone put it on an air force backdrop.
This is the latest news from Dr. Mike as of Jan 28th.
Boils down to, wash your hands regularly, give anyone with a fever 6 feet of room, and pay attention to what the World Health Organization and the CDC says, not what the news outlets say. They want you to panic, so they get clicks on their site.

Pretty much this. I keep checking in with the CDC and WHO just to kinda track the progress, but honestly? Regular flu is bad enough every season and loads of people die from that that never get reported.3 -
Yeah, tens of thousands already die of the flu each year and no one bats an eye. Something like just over 2% of the infected have died from the coronavirus, which is just a slightly higher rate of death than complications from the typical flu (1.7%). I think because it's new and being hyped people wanna freak out. I still would rather not get it, though...being sick sucks. And somebody's gotta be that 2%...4

1) Masks will do little to protect you--they won't filter out the virus. What they WILL do is a) keep any droplets you produce from escaping you and landing on surfaces where OTHER people might touch them and become infected, in case you are infected and don't know it. b) They may have a marginal benefit in preventing you from touching your own nose or mouth if you have touched a contaminated surface.
However they are completely pointless unless you wear them over BOTH your nose and mouth and they seal properly around the edges.
2) Corona virus currently has a mortality rate around 2%. A really bad 'killer' flu has a mortality rate around 1%. Spanish flu from 1918 may have had a mortality rate as high as 15% though most estimates are around 4%--but maybe a bit self-serving as authorities always want to downplay the mortality of the 1918 flu outbreak. Corona virus is believed to be a bit more catchy than flu.
3) Use cart-wipes in the grocery store, wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer when washing isn't available.
4) If you have the slightest suspicion you might be sick with any virus at all--STAY HOME. Not only will you prevent spreading coronavirus if you have it but you'll avoid spreading other viruses that could make people weaker and more vulnerable to catching corona if they encounter it. Also you'll avoid giving them something that might make them fear they have coronavirus--lets keep the medical system clear of spurious flu-like illnesses.
5) Stock up on anything you might need to go 2 weeks without resupply, in case you get sick and have to stay home to avoid infecting others.
6) Stock up on anything you might need to go 2 weeks without resupply, in case people who make or deliver the things you need get sick and so stuff becomes temporarily unavailable for a week or two.
7) REFILL ALL YOUR LIFE-ESSENTIAL PRESCRIPTIONS NOW. Things like insulin, asthma medications, heart failure medications. You're not likely to die if you go without lipitor for a couple of weeks but if you run out of insulin, you might.
Why the rush? BECAUSE MOST PHARMA MANUFACTURING THESE DAYS HAS AT LEAST 1 MANUFACTURING STEP IN CHINA AND PARTS OF CHINA ARE SHUT DOWN RIGHT NOW. Even if the outbreak is contained to China, you could STILL run out of meds HERE because the manufacturing in China or delivery schedules from China are disrupted by Chinese quarantines.
8) If you get sick, this will be like a really bad flu and if you are not already in frail health you'll probably just feel like *kitten* for a week or two. The reason governments are concerned is that in a pandemic, since few people are immune, the outbreaks are widespread enough to disrupt the economy and that has downstream consequences (like people running out of meds) that can be very bad.7 -

This is true for the immediate future but WHO just announced they expect this virus to become a pandemic shortly.
"Pandemic" DOESN'T mean lots of people dying. It means lots of people sick at the same time, to the extent that the economy and trade can be disrupted.
Basically, the stores could run low on toilet paper and rioting could ensue.
Or at least, that's what authorities fear.
