Much poorer but we now have a new water heater, a new roof and my truck has been serviced and has new brakes. That is my 3 things. I think I should get a break now. Rental cabin is almost completed and we have it listed with Traveling Nurses Association. Only problem is we listed it as "no pets" and they keep sending us contacts traveling with pets. I understand that we have 10 acres and our own animals and that might lead some to think we would allow pets but really want to keep the cabin pet free as we have allergic friends and family that might visit at some point and need to use that space. Also medical personnel can often have 12-hour shifts and I do not want to be responsible for a pet shut up for that amount of time. This is not a boarding facility.
The YM pool has been closed for the last 2 weeks for repairs and I have really missed it. It was supposed to be closed thru March 1 but is done early and will open again tomorrow. Yay! Glad to able to get back to my routine.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Barbara, my husband loves to eat in restaurants. He knows it's bad for him because of the sodium so he tries to be moderate about it. If I had my way, I'd never go to a restaurant, but I go with him from time to time. Today he said, "Do you want to go out for Thai food?". and I said, "No". So we ate one of our usual at home meals. Our big meal is midday and we like to watch "Jeopardy" when we eat. The rest of our meals are "find it and fix it". We grocery shop together so we are both sure of having foods in the house that we like and can fix for ourselves. We never invite anyone over to eat with us.
SuziQ, thanks for the bread slicing directions. I'll try them on the next loaf.
I haven't flown anywhere in a long time but when I did, people would ask me if I were afraid of flying and I told them that I was very afraid that I'd get to the counter or the gate and they'd have no record of me and I wouldn't be able to get on the flight.

So, a small victory that I just want to share with you all. This is birthday week in our family- one yesterday, mine tomorrow, a stepson's on Wednesday and a cousin on Saturday. Challenges everywhere, right? I had decided well before this week that I'd want to enjoy a bit of party food at all four events, but was worried that by giving myself this permission, I'd use the parties as an excuse to gorge. To my surprise, yesterday, at least, was a huge learning experience that I just don't want to eat too much sweet stuff. A small helping of ice-cream cake actually sort of tasted gross, and I didn't want any more. Who is this person I'm becoming? I foresee that this week will actually be ok- I have a feeling now of being in charge of what I eat, instead of letting the environment, the menu or other people tell me what to eat. Huh. Who woulda thunk it?13

Home again from our weekend away. This was just a quick dash up north for the pennyfarthing festival. It was supposed to be a good 3-4 day holiday between courses but when my exam deadline was extended, the holiday became a weekend.
That's OK, it was a nice weekend.
Now catching up on laundry, putting away my course material from the one I just finished, and I've got some cycling club stuff to do.

Well, all has become clear about the furious and costly activity getting the pebbles off the seafront on Friday. It is the Brighton Half Marathon this morning, and that is part of the route.
Unfortunately last night was excessively windy, with terrific gusts, so I suspect some of the pebbles are back! I can't see how they are going to run this morning unless it calms down suddenly. The youth run has been postponed for another day, but, as far as I can see on the website the main race is still going ahead. It passes by us two blocks away on the seafront, but, with the wind and rain, I don't think we will be cheering them on. In gusts it's as bad as the recent named storms.
Last year my son and DDIL completed the half marathon. We had the kids for the night and went down to support them. It was a glorious, sunny, warm day! February was a heatwave last year.
Here's hoping the wind subsides.

Good morning all. Still reading back posts. Yesterday was cold, and blustery with frequent downpours, but this morning is clear so far. My prunus purpurea is covered in tiny pink blossom and the magnolia buds are beginning to blush. Snowdrops and other early spring bulbs are in flower.
It's odd to think that final week of February is upon us already!
Rebecca: I so agree. I love reading about all our antics. It's amazing that modern technology has made this possible.
Allie: Your adventure is inspiring. Looking forward to seeing a picture or two.1 -
The winners were nearly 5 minutes slower than last year. Kudos to them for doing it at all! There were 12,000 runners.

With how I felt yesterday, I am glad I got started on antibiotics for this stupid sinus infection when I did (should probably have gone to doc sooner!). Still had periods of chills, etc. Wasn't really energetic (no extra exercise and steps were low). Figured I should take it easier and let antibiotics kick in. Did mange to get to grocery, clean and wash litter boxes, clean out bathroom closet. I had extra towels in closet from when kids last visited. Moved those to dresser in downstairs bathroom--I don't need as many towels easily accessible. Looks much nicer, unused stuff gone, extra space on shelves. Am putting things like larger tp and papertowel packs in basement pantry instead of trying to find a place for them upstairs. Can keep three or four of each in bath closet.
Plan for today is church, dust (I had the curtains open yesterday and the sun was streaming in-realized what a layer of dust there is!), start taxes and pack for business trip (only out of town Monday night).
Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Hello one and all.
Lanette – Again, thank you for the link. It’s very interesting and contained a lot of good information, especially about the results of the gut microbe transplant. I think I mentioned there was a podcast on NPR regarding our microbes and how little is actually known about the right mix and how each one of us is different and may require different balances. It also mentions how quick people are to jump on a fix-all and do more damage to their systems than the intention of the product. It’s a long listen (9-minutes).
https://www.npr.org/2019/09/26/764815498/the-probiotics-heist
Rebecca – This link came up in my MFP feed and it made me think of you. https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/8-delicious-noodle-dishes-with-up-to-50-grams-of-protein/
Katla – Would love to see some pics of your new do!
Barbara – Reading your Friday To Do list made me glad I am still working! Glad Joe and you were able to enjoy the impromptu picnic. During my teen years I worked at Burger King and still crave them from time-to-time. I am also happy you are relived the at-home test will put the matter to rest with Joe.
Karen – Barefoot in the snow! I am so spoiled here in Florida I got chills just thinking about it.
Ginny – Congratulations with the checkup and your vitals. Hopefully the antibiotic kicks in and you start feeling better. When I am eating out or at functions I take pictures of my plate and record later. It helps me remember my intake and makes tracking easier (even if it's bad).
Kylia – People stink! I swear if those who thought so long and hard about how to take advantage of others put their minds to being better the world would be a much nicer place.
Terri – I agree. Last week of February!!
Avoiding the Office Germs – It seems my preventive trick worked or it could be mind over matter. Making and eating the homemade chicken soup seemed to keep me nice and healthy. The sick ones are all still trading the “cold” while I remain in the clear. I think I will be making a vitamin loaded vegetable-based soup this week.
Office PITB Situations – Since I have been working for quite some time at the same company I know who responds and who does not. When I have a project dependent upon receiving information in order to get my job done I set a reminder for both myself and the receiver of the email I am sending. I put the follow up date way before I actually need the information. If I receive the information prior to the reminder I remove the flags when I send a thank you. If I do not get the information from the true procrastinators when the reminder pops up I forward the original email to them and adjust the flag three days ahead. If I have to follow up a third time I do the same thing and copy their manager and mine. I have found when I practice this regularly people begin to realize they need to respond to my emails or they are going to have pesky reminders popping up all of the time. I am down to one person for which I must set reminders and have found they are just awful time managers. For those I work closely with I have mentored them and now all have monthly Excel to do lists for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports. The lists contain the information needed, to whom it goes to, and what day/week/month it’s due each quarter.
It is off to the races for me. I hope everyone is having or has had a great day.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.

I haven't posted my stats in a while. My February goal was to average 6k steps a day and I am holding true there. Next month I will aim for the same with at least half being at a healthy rate (100+ steps / minute).
The weight continues to drop. I am still ahead of my younger self. The week of February 16th I was off the rails, but am now back on track. Key: WW = WeightWatchers2 -
Welcome, Debra! We love Amber, so we begin (since you are her friend) with love for you as well! Welcome All Newbies! – a Very Happy Birthday, Diana!
Prayers you feel better soon, all of you who are not feeling well!! So many illnesses around and so many with disease and chronic illness.
I mentioned that I already do what I want for me every day – in total agreement that part of it comes from being content with what I have (my only complaint about retirement is that we don’t get to do it while we are younger and with less pain), but we’ll say there was a day with no DH and no diet regulations…Mine would include all kinds of food (lots of sugar!!) eaten all day long (and several tropical drinks), massage would be great (although, I have just signed up for one a month in real life), playtime with my grandchildren (I get baby Iris every day, but my Me day would include my FL grands, too 😊), playtime with my doggies, a hike by waterfalls…also, one I can do in real life since we live near many beautiful falls, a nice swim in the summer sun, and a really good movie…and again, it comes down to - My Life is Frickin’ Awesome!…I get to do all those things except the eating and drinking…a small price to pay! I do wish I could work (so we had a decent income) but am thrilled to be available to watch my sweet grandbaby and save my children the cost of childcare. Hoping to be able to do that for all their children. My apologies for being so spoiled…
Barbie Cuddles to sweet Bessie and Sasha!
Heather The burping competition…lol!! Like you, I am hoping the teenage Grands will come to us when they need a listening ear. Like you, they can’t be any worse than I was as a teen, and I won’t shock easily. My children always talked to me about everything, so I hope the Grands will feel they can, too. Love the pictures from the art competition! Hope the 4 cake comes out very well. I agree with others…is there anything at which you don’t excel?? Lovely photo!
Ginny So impressed with you moving things out and cleaning! I need to do this daily for the rest of my life!! It will probably take the rest of my life! I’m so glad they’ve been able to keep your cancer at bay!
Margaret The book you are reading sounds wonderful.
Mary Sorry you are sick. Hope you get well soon! Your Valentine picture is terrific!
Katla I need to do chair yoga like your DH! I fall a lot, and the regular yoga is a bit too intense for me at this point.
Kylia You are beautiful in both of your pictures! You look younger to me in the later one. It’s great to see such a positive change!
Barbie “One day I realized that by talking about my challenging day, I was just living it over and filling my resting hours with the stress. I decided at that moment to say nothing about my job to anyone and to reflect only on my behaviour and not on the behaviour of others. If I liked how I had acted that day, I put a sticker on my calendar. Not surprisingly, my evenings and weekends improved, my stress lessened, and I survived the year in good health. When I concentrate on the problem, the problem increases...when I concentrate on the solution, the solution increases.” – I love this!
Allie Hope you are having a wonderful trip!!
Pip AWWW! Mixture of happy and sad at your dear doggy pics! I know you must miss them terribly! Yogi is just adorable! I’m sure he misses his buddies!
Amber Hooray to JR for the poop in the potty! Sad about your babies who passed. I love how you see God’s hand in the cysts being there for the others to latch onto. I am constantly amazed how He makes good things out of bad.
SuzyQ Thank you for the article on Mediterranean Diet. That is how I would like to eat, although I still have a long way to go! I love your way of beginning to get active. You have encouraged me to do the same to add more movement.
Machka So many stairs!
Rebecca Adorable Athena! Bath selfie and the ballet toes…so perfect!
Viv Thank you for adding yourself to the map! I am thinking of all of you being hit by the storms while we get some rain and winter mix but are staying much better than most! We do get a bit of a pool in the basement.
Lisa (((“Po Baby!!!”))) I’m so glad I never got into the misery of the corporate world during my vast career jumps!
Barbara I’m glad you mentioned about the blood clots. DH has had multiple PEs and I should know better than to let him drive so far without stopping. It’s already an 18 hour drive to KS…ugh…without the stops! Maybe I can convince him to take 2 days each way?? (Maybe!) My parents always drove straight through on our summer vacations out west…usually 3 days. I don’t know how they did it. As a young person I drove 24 hours without a problem. If I were the driver now, my limit would be 2. Otherwise, I can’t stay focused.
Michele Sorry to see you caught a cold in Florida! You missed the snow here. It was pretty one whole day…
Gotta get ready for church. Stuck back on p. 59. Luci in WNC

Luckily got prep meals in refrigerator y JRs Tupperware of peanut 🥜 butter pancakes y vegetarian spaghetti. When he much older hubby will be dragging his teen butt their with him whining to go home lol 😂. As the ages turn .... (Great soap opera name could be about 2yr old then show their teen self side by side )
2yr old wants to help dad
Teen old wants to not help dad
2yr old won’t sleep
Teen old won’t wake up
😝 Lol

Karen in VA I can see your mom shining out from your face.
Evelyn and Tracey thanks for your take on Canadian food safety.
Evelyn what a shock to lose your BFF so suddenly and so young. ((hugs))
Tracey how perceptive your Grandfather was! Seems to me the farmers have been brainwashed by the postwar chemical industry to buy unneeded “…cides” just as the medical community is now being brainwashed by the pharmaceutical industry, all to create demand/market for their products. Kind of like bankers talking farmers into big loans for equipment, then when things take a downturn, acquiring family farmland and selling it to agribiz. Just mho.
Barbie “find it and fix it” perfectly describes most all of our meals, as Joe and I eat at significantly different times.
Diana in W Sweden, best early birthday wishes and con VERY gratulations on the new person you’re becoming!
SuziQ Love your email reminder flags approach. Sounds like you’ve been able to coach all but one procrastinator into organized time management. What a gift!
LuciB no need to apologize for being ecstatically content with your life. I resemble that remark  If no gentle/chair yoga near you, you might check out “Better Bones and Balance” videos on youtube. I’m taking such a class and I can tell it’s helping. I can now slip on gravel and not go down. Good thing as both wrist are tired of being broken 18 hrs, yikes! Yes, please break that drive up. With your pain how could you cope if your DH was disabled by DVT/PEs? Iris’ smile is almost as cute as Rebecca's Athena Rose's toes!
A question just came to me (ala Machka): Nicknames, did you have any as a child? Did you love ‘em or hate ‘em?
Challenge today will be getting in some steps. 4K is my normal range, the past 3 days have been 6K twice, once 11K. It felt good! Today will be a lot of sitting (church, theatre) so need to get my butt UP and dance around the house or scoot the dogs down to the lane quick. Oh I know, I’ll march while listening to the podcast SuziQ recommended. Thanks!
Lighter, lovelies!

Barbie: I have a convert app that includes temperatures. The one I have now is not as easy to use as I would like. :grumble: However, I can see that it is 45 F here and that equals 7.222 C. Somehow it seems like 45 ought to be warmer than 7.2222. Instead, they’re the same. Bottom line is that I need a jacket to be comfortable outside this morning.
Barbara: I’m sorry that your DH is so inflexible about eating out. I wonder why he doesn’t want to leave the dogs home alone for an hour or two. Have they caused damage or torn things up in the past? We used to go out to eat more often, especially for breakfast. DH’s dietary issues have eliminated going out for breakfast as a possibility. I think he could order food that he can eat and avoid wheat products, but he isn’t willing to give it a try. He is wise to be cautious. Eating the wrong thing can result in nasty tummy troubles. :ohwell:
Amber in TX: Congratulations on your progress with weight loss. WTG!!! :flowerforyou:
Heather: I agree with your sentiment. Maintenance is NOT for wimps. :noway:
Allie: Have fun on your adventure!!!
Machka: Good news that the RTW girl won’t be at the big appointments. :flowerforyou:
Tracey in Edmonton: I have a friend who grew up on a wheat farm in Eastern Washington State. They used crop dusters to spray the fields for weeds, and her dad would be out there on the fields while the crops were being dusted. He died from cancer caused by the chemicals they sprayed. I can’t help but wonder how much of that poison was left in the wheat flour when it was packaged and sold to consumers.
Sue in WA: Congrats on all your maintenance and improvements! I hope the pool reopens soon.
Barbie: I flew to see DD relatively recently. I found it very stressful. DH did all the booking and went the lower cost route, which resulted in layovers and plane changes. :grumble: I’ve decided that I want direct flights only in the future. He refuses to fly at all. :noway:
Dianastarkekman: Congrats on taking charge of what you will eat! It is impowering and gives you the ability to make good choices.
LuciBThinner: DH hasn’t been going to chair yoga as he should. He has an upcoming appointment with the doctor. I’m hoping she'll give him a needed nudge. :grumble:
I have a riding lesson this morning. YAY!!!

Katla - my brother did a little test himself with a potato. He planted a couple of potato plants in his house where they couldn’t be sprayed. When it was picking time he took one from outside and one from his house. He said the ones outside had a slight metallic taste to them that when that was all you were eating wasn’t noticeable but when eating next to a pure one was quite noticeable.
I read somewhere that it is next to impossible now to find seeds that are pure because of chemicals now used on generations of plants. I don’t know if that is factual or not, but I do know that food doesn’t taste as good as it used to.

Happy Sunday ladies! Last Sunday in February!
Barbara AHMOD - Tickled to hear you and Joe spent some quality time together a few days ago. My DH looks at the outside world like Joe does.... if he were to actually say "let's go do something" I'd question his sanity, lol. He too worries about leaving the dogs alone. I also need to go through my seed stash... still not ready to get things started for a few weeks.
SuziQ - thanks for sharing that podcast about probiotics, interesting info there. I accessed Greenmedinfo.com and did a search on probiotics. Over 1000 abstacts popped up! I didn't read through them, but it appears a lot of scientific research has been done. The podcast did have good advice about not just buying the most expensive with the most strains.
I decided to pull "Wild Fermentation" by Sandor Katz off my bookshelf. Think I'll give kefir a try. I agree, our gut microbiomes are so complex! I am curious about how our ancestry might enter into it. Being 100% German, my gut gets along well with sauerkraut, fermented dairy (buttermilk, yogurt) etc. And potato salad = resistant starch which gut microbes love! Cold cooked starch veggies, pasta and noodle dishes. I'm glad to oblige.
After my digestive problems in December, I chose a rather inexpensive pre/probiotic that helped restore balance. Getting better all the time. NEWS FLASH.... blood/poo tests came back no infection....everything is back to normal.
I finally tried some Chickpea Pasta made by Barilla. I give it a thumbs up! Texture a bit different than wheat pasta, but not bad at all. Like that it has fiber and protein.
OK ladies, sun is out so maybe I can grab a few steps between showers. Have a fabulous day!

Rebecca! One of my favorite take-out meals is Jap Chae - a Korean dish with the sweet potato noodles, a kind of sweet/hot sesame dressing, veggies and shiitake mushrooms.
The Asian restaurant in town where I'd buy them went out of business. After 50 years... the grandkids didn't want to keep it open.
Do you recall where you bought the noodles?
No worries on the OMAD bus. It's OK to take detours.
