@bearly63 Sorry to hear about your son. I'm surprised Uber is still running. I thought they are shutting down to avoid exposing people. I'm also surprised he is required to go into work when he isn't feeling well. He really should stay home and take care of himself. I hope he will be okay and get well soon.

Easy 5km at a snail's pace this morning. Originally wanted 8 but ran out of time. Probably not going to make my goal for the month but it was arbitrary anyway.

Went back to work for real today (last week was more of a small scale dry run). We've got about a third of people coming in each day, and already it's seems too loud for my brain. I guess being alone at home with three cats for eight weeks does that to you.

Good luck to everybody who's just starting the process. Being about a month or two in front of you guys, I guess you could say this is what it looks like on the other side.

Well, my husband and I made it through our first week of (pretty much isolation). I have been running outside each day and I've found that 99% of other runners are very considerate about maintaining space. Yesterday I did have to ask a big group of people hanging out on the sidewalk to move out of my way. That was annoying -- it was like they were totally oblivious to why people might not want to brush shoulders with them to get past.

Went grocery shopping on Saturday. It was busy, although less busy than a usual Saturday. Had a pretty good selection of items. Canned soup had been totally gone last week, there was a good amount now. There was a limited amount of pasta and pasta sauce and a huge selection of all produce except for potatoes and onions.

Finally got caught up on the thread. There was a lot, so I can't respond to everyone. But I do want to say to @bearly63 I'm sorry about your son. My kids are 27 and 23 and it is so hard when they are sick and so far away. I hope he gets to feeling better soon.

Things are crazy here and at the same time not much different. I live in a small town of about 5000 and our grocery stores are pretty bare on most of the aisles. There isn't much meat or bread. No toilet paper and most paper goods and cleaning supplies are in short supply. But since there isn't much to do around here the traffic is about the same since grocery stores are still open. And restaurants are still open for drive in and delivery. I am working at my office, but since there are only 3 of us on site and I am usually the only one here about 75% of the time it isn't that much different. I only saw a few people out on my run yesterday. I saw one runner and 3 walkers at the park. But I don't always see people out on my runs and it was kind of misty and cool yesterday so it isn't unusual when the weather is like that for people around here to stay in.

I am trying not to stress too much. My son's flight from Japan leaves from Sapporo to Tokyo on Tues the 24th at 7:55 am which will be 6:55 this evening my time. Then his flight from Tokyo to DFW leaves at 5:20 pm Tokyo which will be 3:20 in the morning here. He is supposed to fly from Dallas to Abilene and be here tomorrow evening at 7:45 our time. We are closer to Abilene, but as long as he gets to DFW I will be able to stop worrying some. I'm really anxious about his flight being cancelled and him being stuck in Japan with no apartment and no job.

I'm also worried about my daughter who lives in Austin. She is working from home so that is a relief, but I still worry about her. She has asthma so getting corona might be harder on her than for some. I saw this morning that Dallas county is being told to shelter in place. I'm about 2 hours west of there and so far we aren't having to do that. I'm hoping that it won't come to that here, but who knows. I have a feeling that today is going to be a very long day. Today and tomorrow actually, but once my son is on a plane I won't be worried that he'll be stuck in Japan.

@quilteryoyo He wasn't sick - at least feeling anything - until Friday night late. Chances are he was exposed a week ago and it took 5 days to develop symptoms, which means he was probably "shedding" virus before he knew he had it. He is locked down and staying in. He knows he is a danger to many. I am sending him a thermometer I was able to score today.

@kgirlhart Thanks....it's hard. Mom's never stop worrying regardless of the cubs' ages! Safe travels to your son and if your daughter needs to go to HEB, have her go at 7. They are forcing six feet of social distancing and only 40 at time in the store. Everything was pretty restocked and calm. I wore gloves and took my own bleach wipes for the cart.

@Elise4270 Thanks. I am actually going to try find some chicken soup for delivery. That will keep me busy

Cloudy, damp and low 40s F this morning. Delayed my run until the rain stopped.
On a more positive note, I was reminded again today that when it's cool and damp, I never run alone -- my nose runs with me.
On a less positive note, I popped my back last night (in or out - I can never tell which). I was hoping running would loosen it up, and it did after about a kilometer. So I think it popped in. As a result, my pelvis and hips all changed positions, which means I had some brand new niggles to keep me company today.

When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

My treadmill run today is brought to you by The Closer. I ran 4 miles. The first two I did at a 10:56 pace and then slowed for the next two to a 12:22 pace. It felt pretty good. I walked another mile doing my warm up and cool down walks.

We’re under shelter in place starting Tuesday night. Exercise outside still permitted if you maintain six feet of space. I am wondering if it’s okay to be closer than that to members of your own household. But assuming that police driving by would not know that, so probably not. It wasn’t mentioned either way. Planning on getting out this afternoon.

@bearly63 thinking of you and your son, I hope he recovers quickly.

@rheddmobile I have wondered about the 6 feet of space with members of your household as well. I would think that it wouldn't be necessary especially if you share a bed with someone. But you are right, police driving by wouldn't necessarily know that so probably best to just keep distance.

Here in Spain it's pretty dumb, I can sleep in the same bed as my husband but I can't walk down the street next to him, or be in a car with him. And we're allowed to walk dogs, but there is no specific time limit or distance. Yet my mother was scolded for being over 50 metres from her front door with her dog. She is however allowed to go to the doctor or supermarket or pharmacy 2 kilometres away. The rules are vague, and it's being left to the police to decide for themselves so it varies.

Ours is from the Memphis mayor but I believe several other Tennessee counties and cities are doing their own things. I have learned that googling my own county and setting the news to sort by most recent is the only way to keep track.

I hope we don’t do the car thing, that would seriously put a crimp in our abilities to help my mother with the farm.

Today I biked to the track. Playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment are all posted and/or taped off like crime scenes. The gates to the track were padlocked... but go around through the parking lot and you could walk right on. There were actually several people running. All but two younger girls were keeping their distance. These two were actually more standing around talking instead of running though. Then after I'd been there about 15 minutes, they ran 100 meters, then stopped to talk & half-heartedly stretch again for another 5 minutes. Then I left. I guess they beat their distance they would've run sitting on the couch. And unfortunately if they don't live together, probably shared any germs they might have with each other to take home

I did a store run today and I got yelled at while trying to get the self-checkout to work, by a worker wearing a plastic face shield that looked like riot gear to me. I guess he had to yell to be heard. It was weird. Good news was the front of the pet store was open, so I could get guinea pig food.

I'm getting used to things and doing fine

Ran 7.5 fantastic miles today, and 3.2 yesterday and also on Saturday. Daughter has been running with me, loves it. Super warm day in Texas and only getting hotter. People everywhere running, walking, and playing basketball.

@eleanorhawkins It is weird that you can't be in the car with your own husband, whom you live with. I guess they would have no way of knowing who it is, but still....

@rheddmobile It is hard to keep up. Here in my county, we now have 4 confirmed cases. Three are local university students who traveled together on Spring Break. There was a group of 7 students who went, so they are all being tested. So far, social distancing is being recommended and restaurants are closed except for drive through/take out.

Ooops. Just realized all of this is the C subject. I already gave my running news for the day earlier. So, to sort of keep on track, I did make three new recipes from the book Run Fast, Cook Fast, Eat Slow. They were all pretty good, even the kale.

Well, all of the people off from work must have done their stuff during my work day. No people dodging until I veered onto neighborhood streets to finish out a little more distance.

It was lovely and sunny. Like it took lots of convincing, and reminding myself I was the only one at work, to get back to work after getting office mail. (Realized today, that THIS is likely the part of work staying open, and normal stuff that is going to cause me anxiety... our community usps is 100% post office boxes.)

But... to get as MUCH Vitamin D into my very white and sun deprived system as I possibly could.... before it snows again... I wore shorts and a T-shirt!! I thought about a tank.... and decided that might be pushing my luck, and that was probably right, but I really just wanted all the sun and warm I could get, within my current limited fitness level.

I thought the shorts picture with the snowbank would be fun. And I somehow got myself so that you can’t see my middle fluffy, which is awesome. Random headband craziness is because I’m apparently going to be growing my hair out for a while?? And it’s to the “always in my face” stage.

I finally cleared off my desk at home (the office itself is still a mess but the desk is clear), and put in a (more comfortable) full day of working on prepping for teaching remotely starting tomorrow and answering student questions, etc. And it snowed! A few inches, which is more than I expected. So it felt like a snow day rather than a shelter in place kind of day. A little easier on the psyche to think about.

Around 4:30 I took a break and went out for a run. The snow was really pretty but it was thick and heavy so the trails were kind of a slog to get through. Extra resistance training I guess.
