@elise4270 - It isn't just small towns. We are a large urban area (outgrowth to Los Angeles) with over 300,000 in my town and 3 million in the county. Our stores are still being hit and cleaned out. Somethings get restocked overnight but are gone before noon.
What I have learned this week:
- I don't like walking in the rain/wind without a jacket
- Running is an essential activity and keeps the brain weasels away.
- I will go to Senior hour to shop but not just to buy a couple of bananas for our neighbor (she was not happy)
@T1DCarnivoreRunner - I did see a post somewhere about how to make your own distilled water.
People here do store water in their earthquake kits (or should be). My understanding is this mess has made people take another look and refresh those kits. For sure I need to. I also think people are just being silly and don't like drinking tap water. One of the reasons why we have just a proliferation of plastic waste.

Our tap water is pretty nasty, but we had a filter (osmosis I think?) system put in a few years ago, excellent investment. One less thing I have to worry about at the moment!
The government here has said today that the 15 day lockdown we're half way through will probably have to be extended for at least another 15 days. So we're looking at another 3 weeks minimum.
What have I learned this week?
I can mostly cope with being locked indoors, and I'm good at being strong, but fear is a nasty thing and not even I am entirely above it at times.
I am one stubborn and determined *kitten* when I set my mind to it.
It's possible to love someone and want to kill them at the same time.
Took a 20 minute walk on the treadmill this afternoon, left knee is a little grumpy with me. Did some 'yoga for tired legs' then got intimate with my foam roller, found the knot in my left calf that's making the knee grumpy. Yeouch!
Going to try an easy shake out run tomorrow and see what the legs say. Common sense would probably say take it easy this week, but I really need the mental/emotional relief/release of some good, hard or long runs. BUT I need to avoid injury as there's no chance of seeing the physio.
I also forced my husband and daughter to do an upper body workout with me this morning. They hate me, but I've decided if they're locked up in here with me they need some exercise.

@teresa502 - that was one of the most obvious fails about my work still requiring customer access last week.... our customers are farmers and ranchers.... and most of us employees grew up in agriculture..... I had NO IDEA how strong the “must shake your hand” habit was. Like, I should have, because my “yes, sir” and “yes, ma’am” habit has survived many a chewing over “don’t call me ma’am/sir for x/y/z random reason.” but the habit was definitely a thing from both sides of our interactions, so we had no hope.
So, I’m glad your farmer had a work glove on... but yeesh.... holy habit Batman.... if anyone has a good way to break 33 years of handshake training, I am TOTALLY open to suggestion!!6 -
So, I entered a RunBet.
I went running, my longest run this year (was pretty proud of myself, although I accidentally logged it as a walk.) I saved my run, exited the app, and walked home to cool down. Only for my run to disappear from the app because apparently cell towers went down?
Well, awesome.
So, I went running AGAIN. Because I'll be damned if I'm about to lose my money. This time I waited till I got home to WiFi to exit Runkeeper.
And now they're BOTH there?
I am EXHAUSTED. I am used to running 3 miles at a time.
(If you couldn't tell by the pace of the second run.)

Congrats on your accomplishment!
If RunKeeper detects a bad transmission it will queue and retry when it can. That is probably what happened here. Sadly I suspect there was no way for you to know until you got back to a good signal.

SUNDAY UPDATE - Pastor Vincent vs Boston!
For those new/or with short memories I recently hired a coach to help me run faster - with the goal of a BQ in 2021. It is probably an unrealistic goal, but I am not getting any younger, so going for it. Several people asked to be updated on what the coach has in for me so I post each week what the coach's plan was, and what I actually did.
So here we go:
DAY :::: PLAN :::: ACTUAL
Monday :::: 4 miles + 7 @ HGP :::: Nothing but meetings
Tuesday :::: Rest Day ::::: 10 miles
Wednesday :::: 13 miles :::: 4 miles + 7.5 @ HGP (well attempted, not quite that fast)
Thursday :::: 11 miles :::: 8 miles
Friday :::: Rest Day ::::: 40 mins cross train
Saturday ::::: 20 miles :::: 20 miles
Sunday ::::: 6 miles ::::: 8 Miles
Total Miles: 57.5 out of 61 planned
Covid planning and meetings really messed up my week, but I got the 2 quality runs at least. Hopefully, the upcoming week can settle back in to normal. Also with my May marathon canceled, not sure what this training cycle will look like.9 -
Morning all. Skimmed the last few posts, amazed at everyone sticking to their plans!
The grocery thing is just ridiculous. We have run out of flour in shops over the weekend, but that's it. Supermarkets are limiting things to 2 items per person. Sigh. Can't wait foe that aspect to die down.
Had one call out last night. So no work till 11am. Went for my 5k run. Nothing exciting. Just a gentle easy run.
We are up to 66 cases yesterday, no word yet on community transmission - so far almost every case is someone who contracted it from overseas and bought it in. As soon as we have community transmission, then the alert level will bump up to 3. Which will shut schools down.
I honestly expect that to happen today, but by the end of the week. There is a large number of health care professionals number of people calling for the government to jump up to level 3 or 4 now.
I'm sure it will be moot soon.8 -
@shanaber Your banana neighbor reminds me of my mom’s friend. Her husband is a super morbidly obese guy who has been wheelchair bound for a while now due to obesity, and for some reason he has gotten it through his head that he needs an Apple Watch. Right now. From Costco, since Apple stores are closed. Ordering one online is apparently not an acceptable alternative. He is of course in an extremely high risk category, and so is she since she’s currently undergoing chemo. She told him it wasn’t happening and to leave her alone (he cannot drive himself) but he hasn’t stopped bugging her about it. I dunno, I think not being able to just get what you want when you want it affects some people with a kind of insanity.
@quilteryoyo @polska_girl I wouldn’t run in this neighborhood as a solo female, and running with my husband is kind of marginal. But although it has happened, I figure most criminals won’t choose to tackle two able bodied adults. We actually have some very nice neighbors - there’s a huge amount of diversity here and when the children play together there is such a variety of cultures that they look like a Benetton commercial. We are part of the most densely populated zip code in Memphis. So, there are plenty of good neighbors, bad neighbors, crazy neighbors, and so on. Believe it or not the drug house guys (not the ones with the dogs, a different drug house) were really nice neighbors, they used to wheel our trash out to the curb and back for us. But, you know, they also were responsible for the time I came home to find a bunch of black garbed guys crouched in my bushes with guns out, preparing to assault the house next door. I just left. Called the police non-emergency line just to you know, check, because while the guys appeared to be official and were conducting themselves in a military fashion, they weren’t wearing any identifying clothing! Yes it was a drug raid, and the house sat empty for a while after that.
From a running perspective one of the more annoying things about living here is that the roads are short. Most of my strava maps look like I was trying to draw a comb. I have done five miles here on my memorial run for MobyCarp, and it seems like I had to run back and forth all over everywhere to get it. But I can’t really break out of the neighborhood on foot to reach a better one, because we are isolated by lack of sidewalks and dangerous roads. The one time we did run through the stretch to reach Germantown was legitimately terrifying and we did it at 4 am when there was almost no traffic. About half a mile, no streetlights, along a blind curve densely lined with forest and a ditch on either side, so you can’t get off onto the shoulder if a car comes.
As far as driving to another neighborhood, the main problem right now is lack of places to pee. I really do have to pee right before a run or it makes my stomach muscles hurt. I wish I was a guy.7 -

The struggle is real! I just couldn't bring myself to elbow bump him!1 -
@rheddmobile I'm glad your husband runs with you and you feel safe-ish. Diversity is a good thing. We don't really have that much around here.
What have I learned this week: 1) Daycare workers are considered "essential" so that other essential workers have a place to leave their kids. (At least they are here. I really expect that to change.) 2) When a 3 year old sprains their ankle, they won't necessarily point to their ankle as the place where it hurts. 3) Doing nothing alone is not as fun as it's touted to be. I tried it today. I don't like it.9 -

Worked all day, then met a friend for a short run around the neighborhood. It was chilly, but nice to catch up and commiserate.
We were going to go to the state park right by my house but I heard from multiple people it was NUTS there today. Just packed with people. I'm worried they are going to shut down parks if people don't stay away from each other enough. But hopefully during the week things will calm down and people will stagger out their activity.7 -

Introverts were right. Ya'll extroverts gonna have to learn to accept a shifty nod I really like now having the social acceptance of "stay the hell away from me" attitude. You stay there. Me here "hi". haha!
I do admit to being a bit angry lately. Dh is home and god bless him, he thinks I have all the answers until it's not what he wants... "let me say, I am not an authority... I don't know... OK, IF you get sick, go where ever then. why ask me?". Then he was afraid to get gas because gas pumps are touched by everyone.6 -
Well its official.
NZ is on complete lock down from Wed, with a majority lock down now. This is italy/Spain level of lock down.
All non essential businesses have to close. Supermarkets and pharmacies are open. But EVERYTHING else is closed.
So of course I'm still at work.
Guys, I'm officially feeling all the feels. Its a ghost town.14 -
Oh, @elise4270 - very much introvert here. I will type your ear off.... but other than like 4 people in my life, if I talk to you, it is because I am at work, and they pay me to do so.
Father and I were actually having the conversation of “you know, normally I don’t go anywhere or see anyone, and consider it a perfectly normal weekend.... but now that I know I ‘cant’ do anything (even if I was very unlikely to do a “something” in the first place) - it feels weird.”
But, social/ business setting conditioning has 33 years of “you need to shake their hand training.” To overcome. Like, even if I kind of remember.... the other person sticks their hand out... and it is totally automatic. But like you, i a, also very much enjoying my natural state is now somewhat accepted..... although my usual “stay the FFFF away from me!!” Type of attitude is becoming more pronounced... and still seems to be more severe than social norms. Thus, the lady on my run still trying to talk to ,e, and me trying to get further away. (See, still on topic!!)
In fact, I am introvert enough, that making eye contact is something I have to keep in mind. Natural reaction is just “no.” In group pictures, there is a 90% chance I’m not looking at the camera. To that point, Work went creative this week and “Facebook live steamed” a thing I was supposed to do in person this week, via a partner agency’s Facebook page.... in addition to this Luddite not liking the idea to start with... apparently I can’t even look myself in the eyes on the camera. Was NOT awesome.
To that effect.... I don’t remember which VERY extroverted friend, sent me this the other day.... but, as we often have the intro/extro dynamic conversation here.

Still a lovely sight. Be safe out there! Sorry about the beaches. Figure maybe one could argue the salt water was a natural barrier/ killer. Everybody in!
Eric says “hi”3 -
@Elise4270
Lol. My small family of 4 is me and 3 introverts. I totally get this statement. I am driving them crazy during our pandemic staycation. I've renamed this virus the introvert virus since my daughter is so happy to have a reason to stay in and chill. (She is studying for her MCAT )
What I have learned this week:
-I don't mind cooking....I hate doing the dishes
-My dog is in charge of our family.
-chocolate, esp. dark chocolate, cures most things
On another note, l learned that my son in NYC is sick, guessing its Covid 19. He has the symptoms. He was still going to work via Uber because the client is still working so we assume he was exposed there. He sounds ok and I sent him some basics that he couldn't find in NYC. We hope its a mild case and he is 24 and healthy so I am trying not to worry. I just feel bad that he is on his own.

I haven't had a chance to read the thread so I will have to go back and catch up, but I wanted to post my run. The weather was perfect yesterday, but not as nice today. But I had a lot to do yesterday and usually run on Sunday anyway so I ran this morning. It was a pretty good run. I ran 9 miles. It was so humid you could feel water droplets in the air so it was chilly, but also muggy and kind of warm all at once. I was glad to get out there and run though. This has been a really stressful week and running really helps me not to dwell on things that are worrying me. My daughter is working from home so that is good, and my son finished his year of teaching in Japan and is flying home on Tuesday. I have been so anxious about his flight being cancelled, but so far it is still on. I'll feel a lot better when he is home though.
