....why the F**K would you make your food look like meat?

Vegetarian bacon, chops, mince, sausages, burgers, kievs, Hot dogs.....WHY??????

We carnivores don't make veg shaped meat products.....

Lmao. Ok, you are now defining what 'meat' looks like. Processed and ground up animal carcasses have become defined as 'meat' in your mind because the modern food industry serves them up that way. Sorry, but hot dogs do not actually resemble a pig. And ground beef does not actually resemble a cow.

And btw, you are an omnivore, not a carnivore, unless you are a dog..... (?)

Let's not go into what kind of meat a hotdog looks like.

As a former vegetarian...the key to offending them is to open your mouth and have sound come out. They will take it personally.

Also, hypocrisy seems to be the primary reason for meat shaped non-meat. But I'm not bitter about my own stupidity. I'm FINE.
    Seriously?

    Yes, seriously.

Do you know how many "ethical" vegetarians eat meat when no one is looking? People who decide not to eat meat for other reasons are usually misinformed about quality protein, from my experience.

By definition, no vegetarian will eat meat, no matter who is "looking". If they sneak meat..They're sneaky meat-eaters. There are many liars, cheats, and sneaks in this world, but they are their own worst enemies. ...

By the way, are you always this bitter, or just when you discuss your "former vegetarian" life?

I'm just a generally horrible person. Thanks for asking.

I admit I find this weird, too. But I think it's more to do with how other people perceive what they're eating.
I don't know but the vegans I know are ALL ABOUT HOW IT APPEARS TO OTHER PEOPLE. It is like some kind of attention-getting thing. In which case eating veggies in the shape of a burger is sooo funny to me. I really want to say "Wow- I am so proud of you for eating something with less nutritional value, same calories and more sodium that I eat - and also tastes TERRIBLE. Nice work".

I've been a vegetarian over 10 years and I don't eat any fake meat products. They're not edible

I'm not vegetarian, however, I do eat a lot of vegetarian/vegan products because they are yummy. In my opinion it's a marketing tactic for people to become vegetarian/vegan. A healthy substitute that tastes just as good as the real thing so you don't feel like you're missing out. The reason I think this is because people who are vegetarian because they just don't like meat or were raised in vegetarian/vegan households don't need or want foods that look and taste like meat. But for those of us who either want to become vegetarian/vegan or just want to eat less meat products for w/e reasons, it can be very difficult because just eating veggies and fruite alone may not suffice. Yet if it looks like a burger and tastes like a burger but is completely meatless, it can be quite amazing and that craving will go away and you'll be good.

My favorite are Gardein and Morningstar products.

Also, after a lot of trial and error, I do know that not all meat substitutes are created equal.

You sir have just lost all credibility. Jim Gaffigan is one of the funniest comedians of all time.
Is he going to do that voice the whole time?
RIGHT?! I'd actually consider listening to him if he'd stop doing that stupid f^#king voice for ten seconds.

Lol that's something he says during his act. The voice is hilarious.

    That's pretty clear.

When I first went veg, I did sneak meat a few times because it wasn't easy to give up all at once. But I haven't done that in several years now and have no desire to do so.

I guess I could say meat-eaters are heartless sociopaths. *shrug*

I'm not sure why what I eat is of such concern to so many people. Or why eating something that may be in the shape of a hamburger or sausage but contains no meat is hypocritical.

I don't eat "fake meat" because I don't tend to consume non organic, unnecessarily processed crap.
However, if someone chooses to eat meat replacers/faux meat then good for them.

Why would you consider this to be an offensive question? Weird...

I don't understand either because I've haven't heard many vegetarians/vegans state they don't eat meat because the way it's shaped or tastes and then go and eat a meat shaped/tasting veggie puree.

Eh. Most of those things don't taste like meat, anyway. So if taste were the reason, it STILL wouldn't be an issue. Shape? Sure. But who doesn't eat something because of shape?

I will say the fake meat meatballs are pretty yummy. I'm glad I can have a meatball sub still and not have to think about what it used to be. I don't eat a ton of the fake meats, but when you're pressed for time or tired or need to run to the grocery store and don't feel like it, it's nice to have a Quorn burger in the freezer to toss on the stove or grill.

I think the voice is fantastic. It is funny in its own right. It make him more memorable as a comedian. It makes fun of the fact that anything a comedian says will be criticized and he definitely does not over use it. The vast majority of his act is done in his regular voice. He also has a Boston accent he likes to use and he has Italian and new yorker.

Good question. I have another... Why do the chicken commercials (Tyson I think, idk for sure) say that their chickens are fed a vegetarian diet only?

Because sometimes companies throw meat leftovers from other processes into their chicken feed.

    This ^^

Seriously, who cares what other people choose to eat? Does it harm you in any way?

If OP and others are just trying to wind people up based on a lifestyle choice they don't choose to participate in then, meh - one word, karma.
  • veggie - tbf though sausages and burgers are processed in their own way and have no original shape being that they have been formed. so how you can have a paddy fit about a vegi burger being the same shape as a meat burger when its also the same shape as

    an onion bhaji
    half a bread muffin
    a crumpet.

on another note, quorn pieces i find dont all taste the same so if it all looked the same how would you know what to put it into.

Is this like the "real women have curves" thing? Because I believe one is a "real vegetarian" if one abstains from ingesting meat, even if one chooses to ingest meat substitutes. Unless I'm missing something and they're hiding meat in there somewhere.

    Hey, vegan here. :)
Personally I don't care for meat-shaped foods. They're ok, I guess, but most of them are processed and not that great. However - most people don't go veg*n because they can't stand meat. They do it for health and ethical reasons. And many of them, especially at the beginning, still miss the taste and texture of the foods that they enjoyed, and maybe still hadn't found their way in the veg*n kitchen. I don't see anything wrong with that, of course.

And there's no reason for you meat-eaters to shape your meat as veg. You DO eat veg (or so I hope). :)

Today I learned that Having A hindu friend lets you know what "real vegatarians" don't eat.

First off, don't call hindus real vegatarians. I know many of them. I grew up with many of them. They aren't all vegatarians.

Second, maybe next time you make such claim, expand your sample for making up a statistic.
