Apple Cider Vinegar 🍎 ?????

I enjoy the health benefits from Apple 🍎 Cider Vinegar and like the taste in my tea. I drink tea everyday. My concern is damaging my tooth enamel. 🦷 I have read articles not to brush right after you drink Apple cider vinegar, however, wash your mouth with water (wait 20-30 to brush).
I do not see any impacts to my tooth enamel, however, I want to play it smart. I know an option is to take ACV pills, I prefer the taste of it in my tea though.
Have you had any issues from drinking ACV?

What health benefits do you feel you get from ACV?
For the damage to tooth enamel, this is true for any acidic food/drink that you might have (fizzy drinks, lemons, limes, vinegar based salad dressings, etc). It is not immediate, but the effects are cumulative. Good oral hygiene will help to negate the effects of the acidic foods (just like with sugary foods).5 -
Cool. We haven't had any ACV threads in a while. Good reminder for everyone with spinach growing in their garden that spinach salad with hot bacon dressing is the best use of ACV invented.16

Apple Cider Vinegar, Organic Beetroot, Organic Pomegranate, Vitamin B9, Vitamin B12, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Water, Organic Cane Sugar, Pectin, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Natural Apple Flavors, Organic Carrot, Organic Apple, Organic Blackcurrant (for color and flavor)
I don't want to rain on any parade but ACV fortified gummy bears have these ingredients. You can choose what's the better option for your teeth.

My wife who took on the ACV + lemon + 24oz water before every meal. I was pretty skeptical. But, this and other dietary rules ("no cow products") helped her to lose 50lbs without counting calories at all!12

Hah, I got 5 "Disagree's" on my post. But you can't disagree with the fact that she lost 50lbs and I can tell you that she never logged a single meal.

Weight loss is caused by being in a calorie deficit. She likely lost 50 lbs because she was in a calorie deficit, and drinking 24 oz of water before ever meal most likely filled up her stomach. The ACV had nothing to do with her weight loss.
I don't weigh my food, log meals, or count calories, and I'm losing weight.12 -

I respectfully disagree. If ACV gave her even a psychological boost, then it had "something to do with her weight loss."
In fact, she likes the taste of water with ACV and lemon, which makes it easier for her to drink. (And she does drink a lot of it!)5 -

In case it's not obvious to everyone here, these are techniques to get you to eat less in relative comfort. She knew it, I knew it, her dietitian knew it, we all know it, so no reason to get snippy. No one should think it's magic. But there's also no reason to assume it's not helpful.6 -

Yeah, and that's likely what put her in a calorie deficit. That's the argument. It wasn't the apple cider vinegar. It's nice that ACV helped her stay on track with her eating, but it didn't create a calorie deficit for her. There are people who think that ACV has magical properties where you don't have to change anything, just drink the ACV, and you'll lose weight.14 -

The only thing I use ACV is to rinse my hair since I use shampoo bars and not the bottled stuff. Not sure I would want to eat it! (You'll be pleased to know the smell doesn't stay on your hair!)4

I drink tons of water. I find it weird to think lemon + ACV makes it tastier, but whatever, people are different.
I'm off smoothies (since off breakfast) at the moment, but when I was into smoothies I enjoyed ACV in them to add some acidity. Did nothing for weight loss.
I don't go through periods where I don't consume cow products, and honestly find that to make weight loss harder, if anything, but I suppose it depends on the products in question (for me, lean beef, 0% greek yogurt, and low fat cottage cheese, plus some feta, all of which I find filling or super satisfying and don't tend to overeat). I rarely eat bread but rarely did when I was fat too, as I'm just not that into bread.
So people are different.
ACV has no magical properties but it can be tasty in some things and I don't think the effect on the teeth is a worry. I always am surprised that people find it hard to drink plain water as I love it, but whatever works.8 -

I drank ACV daily for weeks at a time while losing weight (and logging meticulously). I didn't drink ACV ever for other weeks at a time while also losing and similarly logging.
There was zip, zero, no, nada difference in weight loss rate during the two time periods. I noticed no difference in appetite or cravings. (Some people do. Even research says so, maybe/kinda. And there's minor/mixed research evidence of other benefits, mostly pretty tepid stuff. https://examine.com/supplements/acv/ ).
But who am I to deny others their psychological/placebo effects? (Note: Placebo effects are not "all in your head", necessarily. They can be physical. They're weird.)
(I was drinking the ACV for reasons having nothing to do with weight management, BTW.)
And yes, many common beverages (various juices, teas, sports drinks, sodas/pops) are more acidic than ACV at its standard commercial strength, even undiluted. Diluting it with water makes it even less acidic. (That doesn't mean it's harmless, especially in a cumulative way, it just means it's not especially harmful compared to other drinks. There's an ADA report on the other commercial beverages, and Google-able info about ACV pH, both of which I'd link here as I have on probably a dozen other threads, if I weren't so lazy and tired of this whole bleep subject.)

FWIW, there are some excellent mixers based on ACV and various spices/extracts. Yum! Our (great-?)grandparents made something called "shrub" that was essentially a flavored vinegar concentrate, to be mixed with water (or whiskey and water ), as a refreshing drink.8 -

@lemurcat2 I like the taste of it in my tea. I typically have a few cups of hot tea before dinner.
Since January I have lost 20 pounds+! It was a mix of a healthy diet, ASV and working out! Perhaps ASV had nothing to do with since I made several changes, however, if it did, great, if not, great! 😃
I do think that ASV helps suppress my appetite. Maybe its in my head, however, I do feel it works! I do like the taste in my tea and I will be careful of not harming my teeth.

The whole thing about the magical properties of ACV was begun in the 1920s by a guy who inherited his family's orchard and was trying to make money. There's absolutely no scientific validity to the idea that ACV will improve your health or make you lose weight or any of the other things people assign to it. All it does is help folks who sell products made with it make money.7

Prevention, Men's Health, and the Harvard Health blog are not scientific sources, they are health-related entertainment, and prone to click bait, as well as cherry picking and generously interpreting studies.
There is no proven scientific mechanism by which ACV causes weight loss, and no logical reason why it would.
If you like the taste and it gives you some kind of psychological placebo affect, that's great. If you don't like it, don't force yourself, because it isn't physically helping weight loss.
If you're concerned about your tooth enamel, ask your dentist if it's something you need to worry about the next time you go. In the meantime, I believe the plain water swishing and waiting a bit to brush us a good idea.8 -
I think I have come down to the fact ACV COMPARED TO CRAPPY - NON NUTRITIONAL FOODS 🍩🍕🍦 🍨🍮🍩🍟 🥐🧁🍕🍬🍩🍪 will work for me even if the research doesn’t completely 100% back it up. I like the taste of ACV in my tea and its a super healthy tea, so I am going to stick with it!

Calorie deficit is how weight is lost.
What helps you achieve a calorie deficit, is what works for each of us. More power to you.
Personally, I’d rather follow the @snowflake954 method. Vinegar makes me gag, but I love it on fish and chips and raspberry vinegar on my salad.4
