@kgirlhart and @tramboman - you have 3 months to hit that 1.11 mile 😁
@skippygirlsmom - loved the pictures! Looks like fun running!
@Teresa502 - that hike looks awesome! I bet that breakfast tasted delicious! I am surprised they only had coffee until 8 and not with/after breakfast. I would need that almost more then food! Such a beautiful sunrise!2 -
@Teresa502 Gorgeous pictures!
I'm feeling good today but taking it as a recovery day. I think the desire to run is more of an excitement about the races, than my body actually wanting to run today.3 -
Sunday’s programme called for a 2-3hr adventure run/hike so I headed to the hills with a couple of girlfriends.
We ran (walked) about 15km but it included over 700 metres of elevation in the form of more than 1000 stairs. I’m not sure which was harder, going up or coming down. Up definitely got the heart rate up but down was murder on my legs. We had a weather bomb come through so what was light drizzle heading up was a torrential downpour coming down. Super windy at the top too. Fun times! Followed it with a long hot bath and a nap!
A few photos:10 -
Congrats @shanaber on beating the Blerch!
@skippygirlsmom Love your pics and congrats on the gift card.
@Teresa502 Love your pics! Hubby and I used to hike and backpack quite often in the Smokies, but we haven’t been in a couple of years. I am going to tell him about the hike and lodge.
@polskagirl01 Awesome race, but poor toads!3 -
@hanlonsk It sounds like you are changing your form, even if it doesn't feel like it. I hope it helps. As for starting over again - at least you are STARTING over again and didn't give up. You've got this.1
-
@ContraryMaryMary That looks like an interesting hike. I have a hard time with stairs, so that would have been brutal. Love the pictures though.

I'm still lurking. The anxious teen had to go in for her first full day at school today, so there hasn't been much rest round here. Got to speak to my Dad on the phone for a couple of minutes last night, he sounded more or less coherent which was a huge relief. They've sent him home to wait for a couple of weeks before operating to remove the tumour, they won't know until after it's out whether it's cancerous or not so more of the waiting game to be played. Tried to visit the Screaming Bridge on Saturday, but it was Saturday so there were about a million cyclists on MY river trail. Shouldn't be allowed.

The lodge starts accepting reservations for 2021 at 8:00 am on October 1. From what I've heard, the phone stays busy constantly until all cabins for all nights are sold out in a matter of hours. So if you really want to stay next year make a note on your calendar to start calling on Thursday.2 -
Wow, all you girls are killing it with all your races and hikes! Fantastic jobs @shanaber @skippygirlsmom @polskagirl01@Teresa502 @ContraryMaryMary....and probably many others that I missed. You all rock!!!!!!!
4 miles this morning. Mondays always seem to feel the hardest of the week. Today was no different; add to that 24mph winds and gust up to 40, running without a hat due to aforementioned wind, forgetting to apply icy-hot to my legs, and having to wear a shirt for the first time since May, and feeling un-coordinated as hell. All summed up an even worse Monday run. Oh well, less than 3 miles to my 100 mile goal, so happy about that at least.

Morning, all!
I have skimmed and for that, I apologize. I care so much about all of you. 77 posts behind!
The kid's toe isn't broken and she's off her period, so maybe she'll be nice now.
@hanlonsk I hate deadlifts. Also I think I hate them because I don't do them correctly. But I agree with @quilteryoyo.
@Tramboman so consistent. I love it.
@marisap2010 Yay congrats!
@ContraryMaryMary WOW! Amazing photos!
@rheddmobile congrats on the PR!
@skippygirlsmom love the photos!
@Teresa502 that place looks freaking phenomenal!
RE: Screaming bridge - I think I let it all out when I run and keep going until I feel better. I'd be afraid to scream here, people would think I actually got GOT.
Okay, so yesterday, before I went to bed I was 2nd in the 172K, for the whole week. 26th in the 7K, which is what I think most people participated in.
This morning, I was 4th. But you know what? I've been eyeing Devon Yanko this whole series and she was 3rd this time. I was 4th. She is a pro. She is sponsored. I am neither. So while one part of me feels like I got knocked off the podium, I still get to be TOP 5 and right next to Devon. I am really pleased with this. Besides, I honestly don't know what more I could do to be better or faster, other than keep being consistent. Also, I'm not really competing with them. I'm competing with me. So what this means is.... what ELSE can I do?
Two of my toes are trash. It looks like, from when they turned black, the nail never fell off and there is a new nail growing underneath. It'll be fine as long as I don't do an ultra every day.... right? My twin brother suggested last night that I slow down or quit and I said, "Okay, well I have to get off the phone, then." I think it's normal when people closest to you aren't into the same thing as you and they see some damage and they're like, "Oh lord, you should QUIT!" He doesn't know or understand running and what it can mean if you get serious about it. This is okay with me. It's almost very validating. For the closest person in the world to me to say that I should quit - it means i've gotten THAT serious about it, lol.
But also.... I will need to be careful to not resent him for that. Remind myself he doesn't understand and he doesn't have to.
The Javelina Jallucinations starts today. TODAY. I JUST RAN 114.66 miles last week! The first loop is 20 miles and I have a week to do it. This is fine. I can do it and still have some weekend.
So my final stats for 172K = 106.88 miles are:
Avg pace: 13:23
Total time: 23:50:32
I am SO happy with this. Like elated.
And I am tired and hungry. OMG so hungry.10 -

@Scott6255 DO IT! JUST LESS THAN THREE TO GO! YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!
What you described is kind of how I have felt the past two days. Just blehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Also here in yee haw Arkansas it's supposed to be freaking Fall and IT DOES NOT FEEL LIKE FALL
Also did you say you're in Austin? I'm considering coming down there for the Austin Rattler because it's a qualifier for Leadville. When I was on the live stream for Aravaipa Saturday night, I met another Texas person but he does MTB and he's going to the Rattler too. He said it should still for sure be on. I'm not sure about spending the money since I plan to head to Indiana for a hundred miles in December, but maybe?2 -
@Camaramandy648 I totally get about being careful not to resent your brother over that comment. Sometimes my husband will complain about my running, or make some dumb comment, and for a moment I truly hate his guts. I could never admit that anywhere but here though!
This addiction worries me sometimes. All this situation with my father, when my step-mum called to tell me I immediately thought about trying to get there. When I found out if I enter the UK I would have to 'self-isolate' for 15 days and not leave the house, the first thing I thought was "I can't go 15 days without running, not with all this worry." How terrible is that?
The thing about the Screaming Bridge is it is literally in the middle of nowhere and when there's traffic going over it you can't hear a thing. So when I use it, I feel sure nobody is going to think I need any kind of help. Hence why it was so annoying to find all the cyclists on the trail on Saturday. On weekdays I have it pretty much to myself, there may be a few other runners or walkers or dog-walkers at one end but I think I'm the only person crazy enough to go that far up it on a work day. Apart from one weird lady who I see up there every time I go, walking along in long baggy pants and sweater, riding boots and a hat that looks like it belonged to Gandalf once. I gave up saying good morning to her now, she never even looks at me.3 -
@eleanorhawkins I need to find a place like that. Sometimes I want to combust.
I have no shame or apologies for my running. I have been addicted to so many things, banging meth being one of them, that anybody who has an issue with me running can go *kitten* themselves. Truly. I have come so far and I am the healthiest I have ever been. I'm in my prime and the best shape of my life and I have learned that I can do anything. So whoever out there can't get behind that isn't worth my time. I will literally not give them the time of day.
As for my brother... I will be the one to do the work to keep that relationship, I think. I'll just have to know and accept that it is okay if he doesn't get it.
As for husbands: puke. One of the reasons I am not engaged anymore is.... well, I think one thing is that my ex fiance was maybe threatened by the running? Or maybe I was too much for him altogether? Or maybe it was the kids... I really don't know, but you can't propose to someone and then never actually get married. My resentment towards him began when he stopped being around for important things and when he said he thought I should stop running or run less because "You might hurt yourself." The idea that I am so fragile that I should quit what I love ...... nah I could never be with somebody like that. That was the eye-opener. We were not the same.
But you are already married, so it might help if you had a conversation. Maybe just say, "hey, this is what I love and it makes me feel xyz when you say xyz..." Not that you're asking for my advice. I plan to never marry again, so probably nobody should ask for my advice, lol.3 -
Sorry I didn't pop in over the weekend. Life happened. Great racing, everybody! The cake looked amazing! My Facebook memories show that I baked an upside down ginger apple pie and a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting last year. Now I'm craving sweets. LOL! I was running in 70 degree weather early this morning but the weather app says it will be 53 when I head out tomorrow morning. Bring it on!
Lord willing and the Creek don't rise, I'll make my 100 miles this month! Who knew I was capable of such a thing? I surely didn't!

@Camaramandy648 lol I pretty much made it clear not long ago that my running and yoga are probably the only things that stop him from being a murder-victim a lot of the time, so to stfu ;-) Suddenly I've reached an age, or place in my journey, where I really couldn't care less about a lot of stuff any more. Maybe I just learned to love myself enough to make sure I put myself first (well joint first with my daughter, anyway). There's been a lot of comments of the 'you've changed so much, you never used to...' type. Yeah, well, get used to it!
On Saturday over lunch my mother-in-law told me "You shouldn't go out running before daylight, some guy might pick on you." None of them seemed to approve of my response of "bring it on!"
I know, that sounds really stupid and horrible things happen to women when they're running alone all over the place. But I have actually considered that possibility, and carefully plan my routes and timings and take all sorts of precautions, I am reasonably confident of my chances of defending myself and making enough noise to alert someone unless my attacker can drug me or knock me out fast, and at the end of the day I'm tired of living in fear. I could get hit by a truck while running along the side of the highway, but people seem to deem that route safe (cause you know, inhaling exhaust fumes while running is really good for you, right?)
I seem to be rambling, I may have lost my mind. I have completely forgotten what my goal was for this month. Oh well. I can't believe it's almost October.

Tried running on a trail today and my ankle was not liking it at all, so went back to sidewalk, but not before snapping this pic. Once c25k time was up, I ran for a little bit more and ended up making it a full 5k! Time wasnt the best, but I had fun and feel great, which is more important to me than the time. Ankle felt great once I got back on solid, flat ground.

Oh, I'll get my 100 on Wednesday, not to worry
Not in Austin... just north of Dallas.
I can't get over you running over 100 miles (almost 24 hours) last week! That is some crazy beast mode running!!!
And placing just behind a professionally sponsored runner is simple amazing!2 -
Hi add me to the woefully behind and skimmed. Worked on cleaning up and throwing out stuff on the weekend. I feel like throwing everything away and starting over. SO MUCH CRAP. I just want minimal and simple and no more clutter. And it doesn't look like i made a dent. . Did get in a spin class though.
Went running today - so my race that was on Sunday became virtual so we have this week to run it and last day on Sunday. I ran 7 ish today, but my 10K time was at 59.08 I could log this time which I think is great - but not a PR. Last year in this race I did 57.47. So I can try again later this week. Maybe, we will see. I really don't know if I can though. It just all feels different right now.
Congrats to ALL THE STRONG WOMEN! wow. Awesome racing and hiking and ultras and CAKE making!
The guys are doing pretty awesome too. Everyone is.8
