Less Alcohol - NOVEMBER 2020 - One Day at a Time

Love all your pictures! I am from NY too and was used to snow, miss it big time....
So yes holidays are coming up...but I see opportunity....looks like there's at least 25 days between Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas where the are no holidays.....I am seriously thinking of going on an AF streak 25 straight days between those two holidays.
I did 4 weeks straight over the summer so I know it can be done. A bit of discipline and a stash of chocolate chips is the ticket. Plus daily exercise outside, no excuses.
I also dropped 10 lbs that time period without dieting and I could use that now to get ahead of the game.
Anyone want to join me?6 -
DH opened a bottle of wine this evening. I brewed a pot of peppermint mocha coffee
I did take one sip of his wine. It is a cheap bottle and I don't like it but then it could be that I sipped after drinking some of my coffee LOL I'm trying to break my nightly wine habit even if DH is not on board.
Starting my week AF this evening!
Goal: AF days 3 per week / 12 per month; limit 1-2 glasses per day
Nov accountability: 8/15 days AF
Welcome to all those joining us and also those lurking!6 -
@globalhiker I was thinking about picking up a bottle of wine for Thanksgiving but husband killed the urge by bringing up football, which just means he gets to be a beached whale while I take care of everything, just like every other day around here. Why should Thanksgiving be any different? Anyway, I will join you...!!!3

@dawnbgethealthy - They are right ... professional looking black & white snow photos. Those would look so cool ... if you wanted to try a winter spring summer fall mix of photos on a wall!
I love the Autumn colours too @MissMay.
Those are not black and white photos btw, it was just a very snowy day and the sky was socked in, so everything looked kind of grey.
Thanks for letting me share, snow is magical to me.
And...I got to shovel 3 times that day, one of my very favourite things to do, and also something that makes me very happy. Sweating in a coat and mitts while lunging and squatting to throw and push snow all around : - )5 -
I am Dawn and live in South East British Columbia. I am 60.
My goal remains the same as it has been for quite some time, 16-20 AF days per month.
I check in diary style. It works for me.
Tuesday Nov 10 - Drinks. Seemingly back to making Tuesday my drinks day.
Wednesday Nov 11 - AF - Remembrance Day.
Thursday Nov 12 - AF
Friday Nov 13 - Drinks. Friday the 13th!! We had that one teaser snowfall 2 weeks ago and then it all melted away. Today we got a really exciting big dump of the stuff. I got out to a circular trail that normally takes me about 15 minutes, but 10 inches of snow made it take blissfully longer. The sound of deep snow with my new hearing aid was so wonderfully overwhelming for me. Photos to come...if y'all don't mind : - )
Saturday Nov 14 - Drinks. Not planned, just low willpower today I guess. The month is not over.
Sunday Nov 15 - AF - Lovely day, but all of that beautiful snow melted away, not much left on the trails now, and none left in town.
Rolling total. 10AF day out of 15 days5 -
Room for another? I have been off and on MFP for a few years. Stumbled in here once or twice, fell out of shape, out of will power and started drinking more than I should.
Thinking getting close to 40 and I don't need to be in shape any longer or care anymore.
Holidays coming up and that makes me want to drink more.
Welcome again @CMB44512. We always have room for more. Come on in. I recall your user name, but not when you commented last.
There is no age cut off for not staying in shape or for not wanting to care about your over all health and well being. If that were true, I would have thrown in the towel at age 12. I see from your profile page you are only 37? You have a very long way to go before thinking about giving up.
Tag along here, you can read along or let us know what you need a nudge in. I am sure our other contributors can give plenty of support and guidance as well.
Consider this your Day One. 😊4 -
30mph winds last night took care of the leaves on that tree I showed you. It is totally bare this morning.......more raking for me 😞. If anything, I am getting a heck of a shoulder, arm and back workout from raking for 4 days.
@dawnbgethealthy your photos regardless could hang on a galley wall. I always see so much more of a picture when it has less color. Can not believe all that snow is gone already. Crazy!
@globalhiker 25 days, three weeks/4days of a dry streak sounds like something I would jump into with you. My thought is that I myself, will keep any drink on Thanksgiving to a limit of one or two max.
@Lilylady3k what brand coffee is that peppermint mochayou were drinking?
Sun is out, wind has calmed down. Time to go pick up items in the yard that blew around and then hit the weights before work.
Enjoy the day.

Monday is my weekly reporting day. Eek I get to stare are what happened but I need to be real with myself...
Week 1 stats: 9 drinks
Week 2 stats: 5 drinks. I initially planned on 2 max on a weekend day but here I did 5 all in 2 hours. Eek. We went on a long hike then lunch was going to be ready two hours later than normal. I went to the store on - you guessed it- empty stomach and low blood sugar and thirsty- which does me in each and every time! I didn't want to eat because I wanted to wait for lunch - BBQ pork kebabs with peppers and onions, rice, zhoug sauce, cucumber salad which didn't happen until after 2pm.
So I returned with a bottle of Cupcake sparkling Rose, chilled, and started sipping on it while waiting for lunch.
When lunch rolled around I had the last glass and away it all went!
For me, I am picking Nov 28th as the start day for my 25-day "AF reset before Christmas". The more who want to join in, the merrier...!
@MissMay thanks for the dessert idea, I like it....:)
@LoveyChar peppermint mocha sounds divine, now you are inspiring me to get into flavored coffees...this could work nicely as my wine substitute...
OK, back to working on making today a Happy Monday.....

@brittgreenlikethecolor88 Great to see you back!
@CMB44512 Welcome! And what @Samand303 said.
@MissMay Wondering if your tree still has leaves after last night?
I've noticed for at least a year that I get increasingly anxious/fidgety inside as the day progresses. Noticed big time yesterday. Sundays are a hard transition day, so have decided that if a few glasses of wine helps, I'll forgo another night and treat myself to one or two glasses of wine. Wonder if anyone else experiences this onsetting anxiety over the course of a day--whether it's a workday or not. Perhaps my inner child is afraid of the dark? (which is coming way too early these days!) Or perhaps my old body is experiencing early onset Sunsetter's, lol? Regardless, would like to find a natural, non-alcoholic way to deal with it. Just not sure what that is.
Little choices and changes lead to big differences! In addition to getting back on the horse, I'm going to try something new every week. After really connecting with character in the Queen's Gambit, I'm going to teach myself Chess. Let me know if you want to play online sometime!6 -
My thought is that I myself, will keep any drink on Thanksgiving to a limit of one or two max.
@Lilylady3k what brand coffee is that peppermint mochayou were drinking?
I plan to also keep any wine on Thanksgiving to 2 max ... glasses not bottles.
I bought the seasonal Starbucks ground coffee at the grocery that they offer this time of year that I've always wanted to try but never bought since DH will only drink plain coffee in the morning and not the flavored coffees. Since I'm drinking my flavored coffee in the afternoon & evening off and on instead of alcohol ... I decided to buy them all!
Starbucks- Cinnamon Dolce
- Fall Blend
- Peppermint Mocha
- Holiday Christmas Blend
My kids got me a Fortnum & Mason Tea Lover's Advent Calendar for my birthday! I'm looking forward to Dec 1

Thanks @LoveyChar I totally welcome your support.....wait I thought Texas men were in charge of the cooking (BBQ Turkey?)....
My Kansas City husband is doing a whole turkey on the charcoal grill. He buys the natural one without the additives and will inject it with his own concoction. I think he uses the grill to smoke the turkey lightly. Totally awesome with trader joes fresh cranberry sauce. So good there's no need for any starchy side dishes. We go right from that to dessert

@globalhiker - My husband and sons do the same ... smoke the turkey on the grill. We use the ovens for all the veggie dishes!5

I'm in for November! After a very good August & September decreasing my alcohol consumption, October just didn't go as planned. But recommitted to drinking less this month.
11/1 - AF
11/2 - AF, No plans to drink today (but tomorrow is another story)
11/3 - Stress drank watching election coverage
11/4 - More election stress drinking
11/5 - Blaming Arizona for my drinking at this point
11/6 - 2 drinks
11/7 - 2 drinks
11/8 - 2 drinks
11/9 - AF
11/10 - AF
11/11 - AF
11/12 - AF, no plans to drink today... So far 6 out of 12 days this month AF but plan on keeping this current AF streak up for the foreseeable days
11/13 - AF
11/14 - AF
11/15 - AF
11/16 - AF, no plans to drink today but have been thinking about Thanksgiving a good bit. I have never planned to be AF that day but now wondering if it is worth breaking the streak???? I really have no issues with not drinking & enjoy being AF but once I start then it is much more habitual, I don't want one day to turn into 1 month of drinking like October did. Although, If I just buy 1 nice bottle for DH & I to share then we definitely won't overdrink that night. Decisions, Decisions... So far 10 out of 16 days AF this month.
@globalhiker I'll join you on the after Thanksgiving to Christmas AF Streak (but mine will end on Christmas Eve). Should be much easier with no holiday parties this year due to Covid.5 -
@brittgreenlikethecolor88 how awesome to hear you back in here posting again. It is so easy to have a habit become something that has a mind of it's own. A little bit a re-thnking and accountability with alcohol will help the pounds disappear.
Thank you MissMay!2 -
Yesterday was my first AF day in a while. Yay!
1 day AF!! / 1 days
Goal: 5 AF days a week.5 -

You'll have to give us critiques, would love to hear your opinions of the coffees. That's a sweet gift, pretty pot and cup!1 -

He's from Wisconsin, born and raised, and does not know how to barbecue anything like a native Texan, lacks the patience and he has never experimented with sauce recipes. We love eating barbecue, though. We've tried most of the ones on Diners, Drive-ins, and Divesbut our favorite one has never made it on that show!3 -
@globalhiker I'm in for the after Turkey before Santa dry-out!3

No Alcohol6 -
Yes @mainelylisa my tree dropped all leaves in that wicked wind last night.
I like your term DRY OUT for the between holiday drink fasting.
I like not to have anything on the actual day so I will use Nov 26 - Dec 23 as my 28 AF days
Turkey Eve and Christmas Eve I will indulge within a reasonable responsible amount.3 -
Jeez Louise. Can't even have a Drink Less thread without alcohol advertising. It's everywhere. And the only thing in this picture that I want, lol. There's def something to the power of suggestion. I am weird and don't like peppermint. Or mocha. But it's starting to sound festive and comforting!!!

Homegrown peppers!

DH finished the final glass of white from the bottle last night then opened a red after dinner. It has been really tempting and difficult these past few nights sticking with my commitment to myself to clean up my act before bloodwork on Wednesday for my physical. I so want a glass!
Instead I'm sipping on decaffeinated Bigelow Constant Comment tea ... blend of black tea, orange rind, and spices. And of course water.
AF once again
Nov accountability: 9/16 days AF
@mainelylisa warm drinks are a diversion for me ... when it is cool/cold outside.
@LoveyChar beautiful veggies! What kind of peppers are those? I'm growing serrano peppers6 -
@Lilylady3k No better reason to resist a drink and cut back plus it's such an anxiety inducing process no matter what. I'm grateful to go to the doctor but I still experience anxiety before going. Dentist too, it's never fun. It's a relief to just get it over with. Peppers in first picture are Bells and jalapenos in a others. I'm going to order some other pepper seeds on Etsy, so much variety there.4

@mtw70 congrats on your streak of over one week. Worrying about the 1 primer drink that may start an avalanche is a very real issue. You really need to set a hefty drink hoal limit if you fear it may start you on that drinking roll.
@brittgreenlikethecolor88 what a huge difference in your two side by side profile photos. You must have worked off a lot of weight. Tell us your secret to do that.
Congrats on your 1 day AF.
Two more weeks of NOvember left. Lots coming up.
Tonight girls night out paint party for a small group of us, Friday night the kickoff to our town show of holiday lights, next week Thanksgiving, two days later hubs birthday, then moving day for the less alcohol thread.
Another AF not in Vegas ( I miss @whitpauly 😣 )
Btw @LoveyChar your peppers are gourgous. Blemish free
6 -
@LoveyChar I guess this is the other kind of resistance training, eh? We are all doing resistance training in a way.
I especially applaud those living with someone who is making the resistance even tougher, yet still resisting temptation. Beautiful peppers! I jalepenos. Put them in almost anything. Including smoothies.
Yesterday was Day 1 in a long time.7 -
Good looking peppers there @LoveyChar ....
On the agenda today...after I get enough caffeine in my system, is exercise. I have youtube bodypump class with Lazuria (sound quality is pretty good) and a 5 mile run on the schedule.
Goal is to make it a HAPPY AF day...6 -

Picture of my flowers (Pansies, snapdragons, alyssum, ornamental cabbage) I planted in the front of the house a few weeks ago. Texas winter ... these will last through Easter. Fox tail fern, azaleas, and perennial coreopsis & agapanthus are dormant but will not lose their leaves ... so a background of green.

Another day down!
