Hi, I’m Karen, in my 50’s
OSW Sept.2018 187
I have been so busy, and had allergies, thinking I was getting sick....but just allergies, so I have not been exercising.
I am very glad to be here with all of your familiar, darling faces!
11/24-166
11/25-167-Hmmmm
11/26-164-I was bloated the day before. Ate a heavy lunch and had soup for dinner. Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
11/27-166-Better than I thought it would be!
11/30-167-The dogs are getting the rest of the stuffing, potatoes and gravy. Glad it’s Monday, that makes it easier to get back on the wagon!!
12/1-167-Fine with me; I rode my bike 10 miles and was glad I did. No cheese and crackers while I made dinner=a win!
12/2-165-Walked 3 miles and didn’t eat junk.11 -

@HoopsGuy72 So how many people do you think complied with Newsome’s crazy rules - which of course, our SoSoLacking decided to impose. I was depressed over the weekend and admit I was a bit surprised by that. That may be why my eating has been a bit out of control. I know we both can get our heads on straight and get this done!3

Day/Weight/Comment
11/22 …..208.1….. ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND
11/23 …..207.2…..Traveling today for a new hot water heater. The one in the house only lasts about 2 minutes. Very deceiving because it actually looks brand new, even all the stickers on it. Looked up the model and serial number and it’s 31 years old! Wow, they really dusted and kept everything looking good but….. Well anyway, probably some fast food out which is always a treat since we always have little to nothing in this small town for restaurants, even pre-covid. I will try to be mindful.
11/24 …..207.2 ….. Grateful for no gain after an all day travel until after dark. Made the best choices I could. I think the lack of my usual travel gain was because of hard work when I got home. Still unpacking 22 years of home and business. Nothing here has been ready to accept my stuff. All the shelves need re-lining in the kitchens and 3 bathrooms. Tons of workers and friends in each day to help with all the mechanicals. Today I hope the new hot water heater will go in. Also the new wireless router for upstairs. Can I hope that 4 deadbolt/doorlocks will be done and old locks added to chosen interior doors? A busy day planned. I also hope to catch up on all the posts from the last round when my internet was not working. Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes.
11/25 …..206.2 ….. Not the best diet but plenty of work and movement. Grateful for the drop. Hot water in and leaking like hell. Not sure when he will be back because of the Thanksgiving holiday. My house looks like a war zone. I will try to pull off a clean kitchen table and a small Thanksgiving dinner just for my son & I tomorrow. Our standard large family dinner has been cancelled (or postponed) because of Covid restrictions in Michigan. So busy anyway. I’ve got to pull this together before Christmas!
11/26 …..206..6 ….. Hmph! Thanksgiving today. Tomorrow won’t be pretty but my son and I do have much to be grateful for this year.
11/27 …..207.6 ….. Not too bad of a post Thanksgiving weight. The immediate problem will be the leftovers. I know I’m not alone in this. I’ll try to keep things under control.
11/28 …..206.4 ….. Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!! I am DETERMINED not to let Thanksgiving be the start of a DISASTEROUS NIGHTMARE of weight gain THIS YEAR like it has been in the past. I am so happy that I am going to try to do the happy dance amid all these boxes still unpacked. Cheshire Cat smile here folks.
11/29 …..xxxxx ….. I can’t believe I forgot to weigh in today. A little busy maybe with this move? Today was a birthday party for my DGS that turned 3. My daughter had 2 hour birthday appointments one family at a time to bring gifts, have a wonderful lunch and cake & icecream. So sad we couldn’t all be together at the same time, but, hey, he got lots of company all day long and plenty of well-wishes, presents and fun!
11/30 …..207.2 ….. Is this the after-shock weight of Thanksgiving or that late night meal that could have been smaller last night? I hate the way the cravings sneak up on you after a day of full meals (especially holiday meals.) I will push through it today. I have a low calorie/low carb day planned.
12/01 …..207.7 ….. Day 2 of no TMI. Have to get this back in the right direction!
12/02 …..206.8 ….. I am so happy to have ended the round 1.3 pounds down. A first for Thanksgiving time!
My goal is to Dance for 20 minutes per day to increase my calorie burn.

11/23 117.0 New restrictions start just after midnight tonight. Welcome to California Junior. The governor has effectively cancelled Thanksgiving gatherings for all. I had previously cancelled (last week) the one we were planning and my menu keeps shrinking!
11/24 118.0 I know why. Need to take something!
11/25 117.5 Bathroom success after weighing. YAY!! DH baked cookies last night (for DGD#3 and DSIL) today I’ll be baking pies for DGD#4 and DGSs#2&3. DD will pick those up along with silly place card holders I made this afternoon. Also keto friendly desserts for us.
11/26 117.5 Happy Thanksgiving to the citizens of the USA! EVERYONE have a BLESSED DAY!
11/27 119.5 Aaah, Thanksgiving. Totally expected-had small amounts of sweet potato and mashed potato, 3 small homemade dinner rolls, and lots of eggnog! Really, most of the foods we enjoy regularly. Dinner rolls and mashed potatoes as well as eggnog are the culprits! LOL I didn’t even taste the keto pumpkin pie I made. I was NOT stuffed but I was FULL. All things considered, a great day. I just wish we had been able to join family!
11/28 120.0 Expected. This should be going down tomorrow. I plan to get my lazy butt out of the chair for “Kick 2020 to the Curb” AF
11/29 120.5 Hmmm It’s okay. This is actually the typical high carb 3# gain. Eight months ago (on 3/16, the day before Nevada was shutdown) I was 121.0. I now know how even a lower carb (not keto) Thanksgiving will affect me. Today my gal pals and I are having a virtual sew day through Google meet up. Yesterday I went over the Garmin’s step goal. YAY!
11/30 120.5 What a great day yesterday hanging out virtually with my sewing buds - about 7 hours!! I made and ate chicken jalapeño popper soup - YUM!
12/1 118.0 My BFF is coming today and we’re going to lunch. At least that’s the plan. Hard to say where since restaurants are pretty much closed.
12/2 118.5 Chipotle was opened for dine in with only 3 tables but we got one.5 -
See you all tomorrow in Round 134!

Round 133
Age: 39
Height: 5’ 3”
SW: 163
CW: 138.8
GW: 125
GW for this round: 138
Round 126 (1): 156 to 153.2 (-2.8 lbs)
Round 127 (2): 153.2 to 150.4 (-2.8 lbs)
Round 128 (3): 150.4 to 148.0 (-2.4 lbs)
Round 129 (4): 148.0 to 146.0 (-2.0 lbs)
Round 130 (5): 146.0 to 144.4 (-1.6 lbs)
Round 131 (6): 144.4 to 139.6 (-4.8 lbs)
Round 132 (7): 139.6 to 138.8 (-0.8 lbs)
Goals for this round:
- Maintain weight at 138-139.
- Run/walk my evening walk with the dog to work up to a 5K by Thanksgiving
11/23 - 139.4 - Not the start I wanted, but I’m feeling really bloated today so that might be part of it. I’m also really annoyed that after updating my phone last night, it appears to no longer be receiving workout and step information from my Apple Watch. I hope I can figure it out soon - in the meantime I can enter the workouts manually and change MyFitnessPal to get my steps from Pacer rather than Apple Fitness. Still frustrating though!
11/24 - 138.8 - I switched HappyScale to maintenance mode this morning. It was really bothering me to see the trend line numbers getting smaller and the next goal weight staring at me every time I opened it. Focusing on maintenance for awhile is going to involve a mental shift - but since I haven’t changed my calories or exercise habits, having the scale stall is... frustrating.
11/25 - 138.6 - The Thanksgiving cooking has officially started! I made the gravy and the cranberry cheesecake last night and will do the apple pie and the sweet potatoes today. I hope I haven’t been getting too many extra calories from the tasting and checking as I cook. 😂. I had two fun NSVs yesterday - first, I beat the final boss on my Ring Fit Adventure game! It’s pretty cool to see how many hundreds of squats and arm presses and other exercises I’ve done over the past 2.5 months I played. It’s got a new game plus that I will check out starting tomorrow. The second - my wedding/engagement ring fit again! I had to take it off during my pregnancy and never could get it on again. I kept meaning to get it resized, but.... pandemic. I decided to try it again yesterday, and it fits comfortably! So happy!
11/26 - 138.0 - Well, that’s a nice drop - but it’s not likely to stick given today’s menu. Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans in the group - I hope you have a wonderful day remembering all you have to be thankful for. I’m certainly thankful for this group and the amazing support it’s given over the past few months!
11/27 - 138.2 - I would have been happy with anything under 140, so this is great. I was good about having reasonable portions yesterday, but really only estimated putting things into MyFitnessPal - I wasn’t about to worry about weighing everything this time. And I only had half a slice of cranberry cheesecake (which was still SO DELICIOUS). We did a Zoom get-together with my husband’s family yesterday and will be doing another with my side of the family this morning. We would have loved to have seen family in person, but it was still a lovely Thanksgiving. Now back on the weight-loss track!
11/28 - 137.6 - It’s certainly gratifying to see the scale numbers going down again, especially after such large turkey meals the past two evenings. Tonight I get to make one of my absolute favorite recipes - a turkey cheddar broccoli bake that we had after Thanksgiving every year while I was growing up. I’ll lighten it up a little, and have it over quinoa or brown rice - but mainly I’ll just need to be careful with portions. I just hope my kids love it as much as I do.
11/29 - 137.2 - Returned HappyScale to weight loss, since I’m back on track for the next few weeks. It would be great to lose another 1-2 lbs before Christmas. I did my 5K this morning - wasn’t able to run quite the whole thing so that is the next goal. Hard to believe I’m probably in the best shape I’ve been since my wedding 15 years ago!
11/30 - 137.6 - Exercised a lot yesterday (5K plus a 2.5 mile hike), but I ate more than usual too. We put up our Christmas tree, which meant hot chocolate with marshmallows. I’m not going to skip out on family traditions when I’ve had such good progress over the past few months. Like we always say in here - “it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle!” I’ll also eat the last little piece of cheesecake for dessert tonight, so that temptation will be gone. I got my meal prep for the week done - more egg muffins and a pumpkin coconut soup. Let’s end this round strong!
12/1 - 138.0 - Not the number I wanted to see, but it’s ok. Any loss this round is a plus, and we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
12/2 - 137.0 - Regardless of the number today, I’m happy with this round. I was able to lose a little over the holiday, and being mindful of my food didn’t keep me from enjoying the time with my family. Having treats is fine - it might slow my weight loss a bit, but it won’t stop it and it won’t magically undo all the progress I’ve made. Onto the next round!
11/23 - Walked 2 miles yesterday, but at a slow pace (dog wanted to sniff everything. Going to run/walk the full 5K again tonight.
11/24 - Ran 2.6 miles last night at 12:00 min/mile pace. Slow, but that did include stops to let the doggie sniff and poop. 😂
11/25 - Walked 1.57 miles last night
11/26 - Walked/jogged 2 miles with a very reluctant doggie. Going to walk a full 5K tonight to hit my Apple Watch Thanksgiving challenge.
11/27 - Ran/walked 3.25 miles last night - total time of 42 minutes. Would love to do it in under 40 on Sunday (when I won’t have the dog to slow me down and force stops.)
11/28 - Walked 1.5 miles last night and already did a 3 mile walk with the family today. Will probably jog the 1.57 loop tonight.
11/29 - 5K Day! 🦃 I did it! I ran first two miles, then had to walk/run the last one, but my overall time was 37 minutes. Super proud of myself and now want to work up to running the whole thing without stopping. 😊. Guess that will be my “Kick 2020 to the Curb” goal!
11/30 - Rest day to recover from the 5K plus hiking yesterday. New goal is to do a 5K on January 1st - no walking and beat my time from the Turkey Trot!
12/1 - Walked an easy 1.57 miles last night; will try to take the dog on a 2+ mile walk with some jogging tonight.
12/2 - Walked 2.1 miles last night. Tonight will walk 1.57 with the dog, then run another 1 or 1.57 miles.

I'm committing to a keto Thanksgiving, including: bringing my own side dish (cauliflower mash) and dessert (something local and keto). I'm also committing to NOT going for leftovers the next day (which my wife always does). We'll see how it goes.

12/1: 218.2 (-0.2)/28.5 (-0.1). I feel like changing my goal for the week, but I'm not going to cheat. I also feel like I should have known that it would be hard to lose weight during a holiday week. I actually think that I have done pretty well just to stay almost even. I think, if I starve myself tonight (i.e., I stick to my meal plan), that I can even end the challenge with a very minimal loss. Maintainance should have been my goal in the first place. The weekend was pretty rough for me emotionally, even though I feel like a baby for making it such a big deal. I was not invited to my brother's house for Thanksgiving, for the first time ever (it's either at my parents' or my brother's house every year), because of COVID-19 considerations. He invited my parents over (they have regular in-person without-facemask contact with my niece), but I was not included. It just did not feel good. I spent time with my wife's side of the family (all of whom I love very much), but it does not take the sting out of what happened with my brother. I think this may have affected my eating/drinking/well-being a bit during this past week.
12/2: 218.4 (+0.2)/28.6 (+0.1). Hmmph. Not the drop I was hoping for. Still, I am doing OKAY. I think I may have had a couple of meatballs last night from my wife that had some hidden carbs. That's what I get for straying even for a moment from my lovely keto.

11/23 - 155.2lbs. So having started at 155.8 last round and ending at the same weight, I gave up yesterday. Ate slightly more, though still under calories, did no exercise and only doing a little over 1000 steps I woke up to find I'd lost half a pound!

Thank you so so much! Mom, dad, and sister all tested negative for COVID today further confusing us all. At least we know it is likely a fluke and not to prematurely worry. Still quarantining and keeping an eye on the boy for everybody's safety. The liver went on to save another person so at least it wasn't a complete loss - a life was still saved and our boy isn't on this deathbed. We have time and an amazing medical team that will get us through it all in our own time.5 -

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS: One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

11/23 - Forgot
11/24 -158 - I'm sad I've gained 5 since last month, but this is around the weight I've been for most of this year, give or take, so I'm not fretting it too much. I plan of starting my home workouts again tonight.
11/25 -158 - I did not start my workouts yesterday due to my class schedule, but today is a new day!
11/26 - I forgot again, but I did my workout yesterday (but not tonight).:)
11/27 - Forgot again... I only remember when I turn on my computer before breakfast, apparently.
11/28 -155.6 - Probably not a lot of work on my part... I presumed the 158 was retention of water. (I had Friday night snacks, too, so it was really unexpected.)
11/29 -153.2 - Back to my "set point" I think. I snacked on celery and nuts last night, instead of higher carbs like usual. Still need to incorporate some cardio and more weights.
11/30 - DNW
12/01 -154.8 - Too many snacks, not enough calorie burn... Looking forward to the new month!!

11/23: 125.2- Well last round seems to have been a nonstarter and I am sure Thanksgiving and having both my kids home will make this round challenging, Good Luck to you all!
11/24: 126- So frustrating! honestly thought scale would be going other way . Went to body pump and played over 2 hours of Pickleball- challenging and competitive games too. Was kind of hoping to have some deficit banked for a decadent Thursday.
11/25: 124.8 Yeah!- finally right direction. Yesterday did spin class in basement since had BSF in morning. Bummed my tennis shoe broke right before starting to play pickleball at the racquet club - these are the very good players, I was lucky I had my training shoes but after 4 games notice the difference n shoes- twisted my ankle ( the Eccentrics Stretching must be really working, ankle only sore for 15 minutes) but did not want to take any chances with knee. I finally must be maturing- I quit playing before I really hurt myself
11/26: 123.8 - Good way to start the day! Probably mostly due to body functions- but great for ego on a dy when I know I will overeat and drink. Small family gathering as all our extended family is out of state. Both kids home, no guests this year. Slept in- also may be why weight dropped so much measured over 3 hours later in morning. 11/23 DNW – spent last night at MIL's caring for her
11/24 134 – no exercise yesterday, MIL successfully transferred to a nearby care home, sadly due to Covid no-one can visit for 14 days – she's in isolation and as she is practically stone deaf phone calls are "challenging" - she refuses to wear hearing aids! Now the process of clearing her bungalow starts. 114 calories in credit.
11/25 134 – 11.31 miles walked yesterday, incorporated a walk/jog from week 2 of C 2 5K, took me 49.09 minutes, I'll do the same today. 700 calories in credit. And the drama continues !! MIL taken to A&E last night with suspected sepsis, they have admitted her, waiting to find out how she is & whether as she's non covid we can visit, I doubt it, but we need to ask.
11/26 133.4 – was hoping the gain from a week without exercise and eating of plan would drop quickly! 10.92 miles walked yesterday including walking and jogging 5K in 48.02 mins (and in the rain too!), today I plan on doing day 1 of week 3 of C25K. 909 calories in credit.
11/27 133.4 – 10.05 miles walked yesterday including completing my 5K yesterday morning in 48.58. When does it become enjoyable to run? I find it such a chore!!! 710 calories in credit. MIL not got sepsis, but a particularly nasty and severe UTI, hopefully only in hospital for a few days, we can't visit due to covid restrictions!!
11/28 134 – 10.64 miles walked yesterday including day 3 of week3 C25K in 49.38 mins, I know I did my Turkey Trot yesterday, but if we're doing a kick 2020 to the curb then I need to keep jogging/walking! 259 calories in credit, gammon yesterday – high sodium?
11/29 134 – 6.58 miles walked yesterday, calories 170 over. MIL discharged from hospital to the care home, restarts her 14 day isolation again.
11/30 133.8 – 4.06 miles walked yesterday, started clearing MIL's bungalow – so much stuff; she's a hoarder! I'm going to continue to work through C25K and hope to improve on my time.
12/01 133.4 - 7.42 miles walked yesterday. 514 calories in credit.
12/02 133.4 - 6.02 miles walked yesterday, 8 calories in credit. Getting on well with MIL bungalow clearance, everything packed now and sorted, 1 skip filled yesterday. Rooms sorted into awaiting collection from charities, further to go in second skip and large items to be be collected by bulk rubbish removal, all valubles and sentimental items removed - 3 days off until next skip arrives at weekend.
12/03 134.4 ! don't ask !! - 10.8 miles yesterday incorporating 5K in 48 mins 58 secs.
KEEP SAFE EVERYONE . Keep calm – we're all in this together!

11/23 - 155.2lbs. So having started at 155.8 last round and ending at the same weight, I gave up yesterday. Ate slightly more, though still under calories, did no exercise and only doing a little over 1000 steps I woke up to find I'd lost half a pound!

I'm in! Thank you, @GrandmaJackie!
70 year old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion... ...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.
The Shelter in Place has everyone freaked. We need to remain calm and respectful of each other.

H"ope to be up only slightly tomorrow.
11/27: 125.8
11/28: 126 I am 55 and thought I started menopause- Sadly I was wrong-
