@kgirlhart Glad you had a nice run, despite the wind. So, you have to work on Christmas Day? That's too bad. I hope it isn't too cold for you in the morning.
Thanks @hamsterwheel6 . I'm glad your foot is doing better.
@Teresa502 We live close enough that our weather is similar. The temps here dropped 20 degrees in about an hour and it changed from rain to snow around 5. It's already accumulating and my driveway is slick. I doubt I will be going anywhere for Christmas - hoping it won't be so bad that I can't at least walk down to see mom for a bit. It's very pretty and I would normally really love a White Christmas, but not so much this year. I think I needed to be with family and I doubt that is going to happen. I don't have Bailey's. Gin may have to do. LOL
Congratulations @rheddmobile ! That's a great time and congrats to your husband on his PR!

Merry Christmas everyone. No run for me today - champagne, ham and trifle instead. I need a nap.8

Hope the weather up there was as good as here!
I had a nap this avo. Not due to food, just so tired. Felt great!4 -
My year was probably like everyone else's, did not go as expected. But mine was due to an injury. Not the virus. This was not my year.
2021 will be my year!5 -
Happy Christmas everyone! @rheddmobile well done on the fast 10K! @kgirlhart - good news that the injury is holding up, @Teresa502 ouch! 21 miles on bike and then that run?! You are a hero! @ContraryMaryMary enjoy the well earned rest and all the food! @Avidkeo it may not have been the year you planned but you have been brilliant working through your rehab. I’m sure 2021 will indeed be your year. @hamsterwheel6 glad you are also on the mend. @quilteryoyo you and your mum are in my thoughts every day. Hope you are doing ok and sending lots of love on what may be a tough day.
Too many others to mention but a big thank-you to all the lovely regulars on here for your positivity, inspiration and humour. As a sometimes lonely single runner without any expertise, I could not do it without you!
Have about 15 miles to go to hit my end of year target. Kids about to wake up - I may jump on the treadmill once presents are opened and the oven is on!!

Merry xmas everyone. The main celebration here in Spain is on the evening of the 24th and was pretty meh, but we stuffed our faces, drank too much malibu and played trivial until late. Hence I woke up feeling *kitten*, but then my phone bleeped at 10.24 with the best present ever..... negative test results and freedom!
We had coffee, mini-me opened her few little presents then we went for a wonderful walk in the sunshine. Even my daughter came without complaining! We stopped under the MIL's balcony and called her out to wave and blow kisses. She isn't having any trouble breathing but she's still getting feverish, feels like she's been hit by a truck and looked very run down.
I'm so happy I can run tomorrow though.
Question to those with more experience and common sense than I have... my plan was for a HM distance tomorrow, but having not run at all since Friday of last week, is that a good idea? 🤣9 -

Merry Christmas! It’s certainly a white one here in southwest Virginia as we woke up to about 6 inches of snow on the ground. Current temp is 13F with an 8F feels like. I walked half a mile on the treadmill and ran 2 miles followed by 8 miles on the exercise bike.
Way to go on your sub-1 hour 10k @rheddmobile!
@quilteryoyo – If you walk to your moms bundle up good – layers, layers, layers!
Oh @eleanorhawkins negative tests is the best present ever! I think you can totally do HM distance tomorrow. You are a seasoned runner and just think of the last week as one long taper.
4 -
@eleanorhawkins Best Christmas present ever! Yeah for negative results. Hope your MIL starts feeling better soon.
@Teresa502 It is cold here, but we only got about 3 inches of snow. It's on the trees though, so is really beautiful.3 -

🎄Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄
I got up and ran 5 miles yesterday morning. It was 27°F. Luckily it wasn't near as windy at 5:15 morning as it was on Wednesday. It's hard to believe that I ran in shorts Wednesday. But once I got going it wasn't too bad and turned out to be a good run. I had to work and I knew that if I didn't run before work I wouldn't get it done. I ended up getting off early, but I am still glad I ran early because the wind really picked up again.
I have been reading through the thread and there is so much good going on. I'm sorry I am not better about making personal comments, but I give lots of likes and hugs.
@quilteryoyo I only had to work on Christmas Ev3, not Christmas day. And they sent out an email about 10:30 that said "Noon is 5". And then the big boss came by my office around 11:15 and said "it's 5, go home Merry Christmas". So I got to have most of the day off.
@rheddmobile Congratulations on the 10K PR!
@eleanorhawkins So glad you got negative results!!! I would plan to run less than the HM distance. But honestly I would probably just just play it by ear and see how the run felt.

@eleanorhawkins Great news and pretty much the best Christmas present ever.0

@eleanorhawkins Great news and pretty much the best Christmas present ever.
Yes, it really is!0 -
Merry Christmas to my MFP fam! 🎄
Sounds like everyone is having (or had) a good day.
Great news @eleanorhawkins for your negative test!3 -
@kgirlhart I guess I misread that. Glad you were able to get off earlier than early. Also glad you got your run in before the wind picked up. The wind is a bear, especially if it is cold.2
-
Yay @eleanorhawkins, that’s fab news! And yes, go run that half - with a ‘taper’ like that, your legs will feel great. Enjoy the run and your freedom!4
-
Another stunning summer day here. Another fab run. I did an 11km loop, with 5km of that along the beach on hard packed sand. Loads of families out walking and soooo many dogs (all happy and far more interested in each other than me!).
It was supposed to be an aerobic run (conversation pace) and while my pace was where it should be, my heart rate was in absorption (recovery) zone for most of it - clearly the holiday relaxation is kicking in.
When I got home, my husband had taken the children out sightseeing so I had a leisurely breakfast followed by a peaceful swim.
Kids are back and I suspect this will be my view for much of the day:6 -
@ContraryMaryMary Sounds like a great run. Enjoy your vacation. It looks like a lovely place for one.
In contrast, my exercise today was a walk in the snow with Tippy. It was beautiful and, while the temperature never got above 23°F, it didn't feel horribly cold.
My favorite picture of the day. This pond is right over the hill from my house.
Tippy loves running and playing in the snow. The black blur running up the hill is her.
The sun shining on this tree was beautiful. The picture doesn't do it justice.
Another of the pond.
I also walked down to my mom's to spend some time with her. Because the roads were too slick to drive safely - at least for me, we didn't get to go to my niece's for the family Christmas we had planned. Instead, we spent some time together working on a jigsaw puzzle, like we used to do years ago.
12 -
I managed to gety long run in, 8k! Took a short 200m walk break at about 6.5k and really enjoyed being out.
I think i got sunburned! I usually go out before 8am. But due to middle of the night call out I didn't make it out till 930am. It was hot out there.

Wow beautiful white Christmas @quilteryoyo!2

Few things more pretty than sunshine on freshly fallen snow
2 -
Wow @Avidkeo ! I do believe you got a little sun. Can't imagine as cold as it is here today.2
-
@quilteryoyo that's gorgeous. I'm glad you had that lovely peaceful sight today and hope you and your mom made it through the day ok. Working on a puzzle sounds lovely, I sometimes do that with my mom when I visit and it's a great way for us to spend some time together. I sent her one this year to do even though I can't be there.
@ContraryMaryMary and @Avidkeo sounds like you are enjoying some lovely time in the sun (watch out on the sunburn though!).
@eleanorhawkins such great news. Glad you had a nice day. I would definitely run the HM tomorrow if you want to. I agree think of it like a taper, you'll be fresh and ready.
@rheddmobile congrats on your sub 1 hour 10k and meeting your goal at the last minute. Fantastic!

We did not have a white Christmas here, which was disappointing. It rained most of the day yesterday and all night so what snow we had is gone (except the big plow piles). I waited out most of the morning for the "wintry mix" to turn from rain to snow and I made some salted caramel pretzel fudge and some cranberry salsa while sipping my coffee with salted caramel vodka (there may be a theme here). I finally took Stella out for a long walk at about noon and it was still a little drizzly but we also had some big snowflakes for a while. I was cold and damp after that so even though I thought I should just get the run done too, I decided to relax and warm up. OK, I took a nap. I eventually decided to go downtown for a change of pace to see the Christmas tree and the ice skating rink and do my run around there starting around 4:30. There was no more precip and it was about 35 degrees so not too bad. Downtown was a ghost town and not as fun as I hoped, but it was nice to be somewhere different and look at the businesses and their decorations. I looped around a lot to stay near the more festive part. After it got fully dark a few more people showed up to take pics around the big lighted tree and a few people were skating on the rink. They weren't open for renting skates today or I might have given it a try - I haven't ice skated in many years and I remember being awful at it, so it's probably for the best.
A couple of pics

@katharmonic Those are some huge snowflakes and very pretty town. I find that I can ice skate better than I can roller skate. I never did either much and don't do them at all now...not since 1994 when I fell roller skating and broke my elbow. An outdoor rink looks like so much fun though.2

@quilteryoyo I'm the opposite I think, I used to roller skate all the time, that was a big thing in middle school and early high school (oh, the romantic "moonlight skate" holding hands ). Ice skating my ankles were too weak. Ouch on the elbow though! That would keep me from ever doing it again too.

I didn't manage a long run today because I wanted to go to class at the gym, but did get out there for a while to meet up with a small group. It was pretty cold and the wind was tough in spots. I wasn't sure how the trails around the lake would be after the snow melt and the rain but they were pretty good. Crusty and hard from being frozen but not much ice. It's so loud though to run on the crunchy surface and it felt like extra hard work.
I upped my goal for the month from 100 to 115 miles, which is my highest past December mileage from 2018. So really I need 115.1 or more to beat that. Which should not be a problem and I really should shoot for higher but let's just see how it goes in these last 5 days of the month (5 MORE DAYS OF RUN STREAK!).6 -

This morning I was apparently channeling Pastor Vincent... having not run for a week, and having spent 2 days stuffing a gazillion calories down my throat, I knew going out and running 13 miles was not the most sensible thing to do and I would have told anyone in my position not to do it. There are rumours we'll all be back in some sort of lockdown here soon though, and the last 6 days were horrible. So yes, umm, I got up at 6am to go out and do it. Not only that, I decided after stopping home half way through for a bathroom break and to refill my water bottles that as the quarantine thing destroyed my chances of reaching my 1,000 miles for the year goal, I would cheer myself up by stretching it a bit to 22km to make it my longest run ever. My legs are grumpy now but my soul is happy. I might have shed a couple of tears on my cool down walk home and dedicated my distance pr to PV, and to @quilteryoyo 's dad, and everyone else we have lost in this nightmare of a year.
Now for some stretchy yoga and an epsom salt bath.
Oh, and I must remember that a week off and a gazillion calories seem to work well for bonk avoidance!12 -
10 miles this afternoon. Cut it short because I got a message that the kids were packing up the car and getting ready to leave. Got home and they stayed another hour, so that was good. Glad they both were able to come home for Christmas.
The run was good. Great weather at 57F, light wind. Planned on hitting my 100 miles for the month, but guess I can do 2 miles before the end of the year 😉

Well done you! I love the channelling and he would be so proud of you. And congratulations on your longest run! Stretch stretch stretch!
And also biggest hugs, I see that UK strain has made it to France. I hope they shut it down fast.3
