Today was my 365th day in a row of running! I started the streak, unintentionally, on Dec 18 last year (leap year so there are actually 366 days but whatever, I'm celebrating a traditional year). I didn't plan on doing a whole year and didn't commit to it out loud for quite a while - maybe into February or so. But then I was just doing it and couldn't stop. Now just 15 more days to continue the streak for all of 2020. I will not be continuing after that as I'm really looking forward to going back to a day off. And NOT running during any more 15 hour hikes.
Today's run was a lot of fun. A few friends met up at the "Lights on the Lake" display before it opens for cars to drive through so we could run under the lights. We started at 4 and were told by a park employee that we'd probably be told by the rangers we had to get out at 4:30 when they start letting cars through (we thought they started at 5, so we were a bit disappointed). But there is a walking path to the side of the driving route so we were able to stay out a little longer and not get yelled at. It was so beautiful to see all the lights. I've seen it many times in the day but rarely all lit up at night - I've never paid to drive through.
It was pretty cold and windy, about 22 F I think, so we were pretty chilled when we finished. But we had some hot chocolate at the cars and a little homemade salted caramel vodka. Which, I did not know you could MAKE that and now my life is changed. So good. A very fun evening. A few pics under spoilers
I had a whole post typed out with responses and lost it - sorry everyone. Lots of likes and hugs above. I don't know if anyone has heard an update from @quilteryoyo but she and her family continue to be in my heart.11 -
Congratulations for 365 days on the run @katharmonic! When looking back on 2020, you have something positive to remember! Love the Christmas lights and everyone's holiday dress but it looks so cold with that snow on the ground!4

Oh no, how terrible. I was wondering, too.
@quilteryoyo I'm so very, very sorry.0 -

17.97 / 30 miles for December
Yesterday's run was a total flop, ended up giving up after 20 mins. Went too fast as I thought I'd change my route and running time. Had something to prove to myself today so I went back to my usual and achieved a further 5 mins plus 0.5km extra. My 30 mile target doesn't seem so unachievable anymore.

The 30 mile distance target (as well as a faster pace target) should probably be at a lower priority than building up your distance in a healthy way... and you seem to be doing great at that. Keep up the good work!4 -

Thanks everyone. I just skimmed all of your posts. Congrats and hugs to all who need them.
Yes, tragically, dad passed away yesterday afternoon. I was so glad that mom and I were able to be there with him. He never was able to respond to us again after Monday evening, but I think he could hear and knew we were there. I did play my Southern Gospel running playlist for him a couple of times and once he raised up one hand and was keeping time to the music. He really loved Southern Gospel and singing bass. I imagine he is now singing in some heavenly quartet and enjoying having the deepest voice imaginable.
Mom and dad were married for 63 years and together for 66, ever since she was 18. It's going to be really hard on her, as they did everything together!
This picture was taken on Oct 14th. I love it because it shows dad's genuine smile. It was always hard to capture.
I'll try to check in, but not sure how much. I just wanted you all to know. You really are true friends and I love you all.

Oh, @quilteryoyo, how beautiful that you were able to spend the time with him and play the music he loved. I am just so sorry for you and your mom. 66 years together, wow. I don't have more words than saying I'm sorry and wish I could offer you a hug and some comfort.2

We've had 6 inches or so of snow overnight and will probably get a little more today. We are just north of the
line of much higher snowfall totals, which is kind of disappointing actually. As long as it's snowing, let's just go for it! I will not be saying this in a couple of months I'm sure.
Anyway, I had to be at the gym this morning for strength training anyway, so I did my run on the treadmill before and after that. At one point I was the only person on the gym floor which was very weird. It's not been very busy anyway but the weather was certainly keeping people away today. The drive was pretty terrible. After I finished my run I did some foam rolling and stretching. My hamstring seems pretty good. Just a little dull ache after a lot of use (like now). In fact I think I'll ice it while I'm thinking about it because that seems to be helping over the last few days as well.
Stay safe and warm those of you who are in the northeast and getting a lot of snow!3 -

I’m so, so sorry. Happy that he was still enjoying his music up until the end and that you were with him.
It’s so typical of you to take time to read everyone’s posts and think about us, even at a time like this. As someone very lazy myself who loses track of what happened to who and thinks up replies sometimes but doesn’t post them I really appreciate that you are the person who always notices and has something to say to everyone - you put so much thought and love into your comments and I want you to know that we see it and appreciate it. It’s so unfair that this happened to you and your family and I wish I could do something to make things better. Praying for the peace which passes understanding to be upon you and your mom, with much love. Please take all the time you need.11 -

This ^^^is EXACTLY what I was trying (and failing) to find the words to say. @quilteryoyo we love you and are hurting for you. If there's anything at all any of us can do, please, please tell us.
