I can’t remember what my goals were for 2020. I know it was to run more miles consistently, which I did do. I wanted to improve my pace back to 10 minute miles, that I failed, but I’m okay with that since I was building my mileage. I wanted to get back to my happy weight, I did lose about 23 lbs so I’m headed in the right direction which is good.

Hi all. I can’t remember my goals either! I’m not sure I even set any as I was out recovering from my surgery for January and February. I think I probably just wanted to be able to run again, and build up my stamina and speed. I guess I half achieved that as I got up to 10 miles long run distance and I definitely got faster, although not as fast as before.
Most of the success was in spring and summer. I’ve found the last few months very hard and now - ta da! - finishing the year with Covid. I just got my positive test result today.
I still feel pretty rough and not up to running. So I won’t make it to my 800 miles for the year unless there’s some kind of magic recovery! Think that wraps up 2020 appropriately!
But I know I’m blessed, it could be so much worse. The kids are ok (have had v v mild symptoms and over them now). Please god I will be over this soon and ready to tackle a new year. Goals for 2021? I’m thinking about it! 🤔
So much inspiration here from all of you though - 👏 👏 👏11 -

Big hugs to you @Faebert. I hope you recover quickly.
3 -
@skippygirlsmom Great job on the weight loss and running consistently.
@Faebert OH NO!!! Sorry you got a positive test. I hope you have only mild symptoms and recover quickly!
2 -
Great job @Camaramandy648 !
1 -
Agree with all the congrats for year end goals reached! You all are amazing 💕☺️
I looked back through my Dec. 2019 / Jan. 2020 posts and couldn't find where I set any 2020 goals. Although I suffered from injuries in January and June, I have been injury free for 6 months (in a row!), so that probably would satisfy at least one of my goals.
I need to think about goals for 2021 and then will post on the January thread.7 -
Amazing mileage for the year @Camaramandy648. You definitely nailed consistency too, which is very impressive given your schedule.
Congrats on losing 23 lbs @skippygirlsmom! And on the consistent running this year.
@Faebert so sorry to hear about your positive test. I hope you will recover quickly and everyone is healthy going into 2021.
Great job this year @scott6255 and congrats on 6 months injury free.

An update on my day - a last minute addition to one of my 2020 goals to try something new that scared me a little bit and tried downhill skiing today. It was so fun! I had some good practice falling and trying to get back up (so hard!) but overall had a great experience on this ski hill near my house. It's mildly terrifying to me still but I was so excited to make it down that little hill. I skied!
11 -
You look so happy @katharmonic ! Yeah for making it down the hill. I really enjoyed snow skiing.0

63.94/40 running miles completed for December
1345.82/1000 miles for Run the Year
I ran 5 miles this morning. It was a pretty good run. It was 60°F and humid and windy. I'm at 63.94 for the month which is lower than my original goal, but higher than my revised goal so I am pretty happy with that. And I am at 1345.82 for the year which is more than my goal of 1300 for the year. I should have 2 more runs this month/year, but we'll have to see. It is supposed to be stormy in the morning and I don't run if it is lightning. And Thursday we may get a wintery mix and I just don't know if I want to run in that in the dark before work.

Did anyone get any running related stuff for Christmas?
I got two new pairs of shoes. One was a Christmas miracle - a pair of my three years discontinued Brooks adrenaline gts 18s - new and in box! This is the first brand new pair I’ve found in 2 years, I have been buying “lightly used” shoes from eBay and Poshmark, and trying various other shoes which turned out not to work as well. I wore them Sunday and it was so lovely wearing bouncy new shoes! The other pair was a replacement for my beloved Salomon speedcross 4s which I have had so long that the side finally started to split. I updated to the 5s and so far they seem better in all ways - my only issues with the 4s were the forefoot was a little narrow and the heel tended to slip, and the 5s are wider through the forefoot with a more locked in heel. They are even more lugtastic than the very luggy 4s, which have such big lugs that they feel almost like running on cleats when worn on roads. But great on grass, mud, or slick trails. I wore them in and out of creeks today on slick mossy rocks with no problems.
Nice easy trail run today to test new shoes, almost 8 miles, about half hiking. Very pleasant weather, mid 50s and overcast with a light wind. Saw a giant red tail and some deer. We shared the trails with 4 riders on horses, who were very polite and got over for us to pass them.
I thought I would take a picture of the last time my trail shoes were this clean!
My husband’s big gift this year was a 3d printer. He’s a professional 3d modeler for video games, but hasn’t really gotten into printing because of the technical issues with setup being tricky to learn long distance. Since I’m into dollhouse miniatures this will be great. It takes a while to build stuff in 3d but he has already made me some dollhouse things I have wanted for years. Is anyone here into tabletop RPGs? We used Hero Forge to design tabletop miniatures of ourselves running! They printed beautifully. We’re waiting on paints to arrive so our ones are in a single color, but when painted they will look like this:10 -
Hey all.
Whew what a morning. I went out for 6.5k this morning. I decided half way to go a slightly different route as I wasn't sure my regular route would have got me 6.5 or if I'd have to do a couple of extra loops. Well I really miss judged it, and ended my run about 15 min walk from home!
I was good, and stopped running at the 6.5k (following the plan remember haha) and used the walk home as a gentle cool down.
I picked up the weights again yesterday for the first time in a while. I've build a 20min full body plan that I intend on doing 3 days a week. I really enjoyed it. But am now suffering DOMS. Oh well. Such is life8 -
I convinced hubby to sign up with me to try to complete Run the Year together. He does a lot of walking and wants to get back into running more, so this can be a good goal for the two of us to work towards together.9

Well another 4 miles on the treadmill this morning due to rain. Wasn't too cold, but just didn't want to mess with it.
That is probably it for 2020. Good riddance. Only ended up with 893 miles for the year; lowest since 2017. But having to completely take off for two months will do that. See you all in 2021. Happy New Year early everyone!
8 -
@rheddmobile Love the new shoes and the trail and the miniatures! All so cool.
@marisap2010 Yeah for your husband wanting to get into running with you. That should be fun.
2 -
You look like you're having a great time @katharmonic ! I tried skiing once. It wasn't for me. I decided I like the idea of snow and looking at it through a window with a cup of cocoa more than actually being in it.

Yay for your new shoes!
I got some calf compression sleeves and this pocket thing you can wear on your wrist/forearm and a Theragun!!
I have been wanting to try compression sleeves for my calves since starting winter running in leggings and noticing that my legs have been less tired than when I am an shorts. Mostly longer runs.
And I have been eyeing a theragun for a while. I already have foam rollers and various little things for stretching. This past year I started getting regular massages until COVID shut that down. Massages were great and I definitely noticed a difference once they were gone. The theragun should let me take matters into my own hands a bit. And it's great for climbing recovery too. So far I'm really loving it.5 -

@katharmonic woohoo on the skiing. I have to say I hate to ski, I’ve tried it quite a few times and it’s just something I never cared to do.
@rheddmobile woohoo for new running shoes. I love Salomon, that’s what I trail run in. I brought Skip a ton of socks and a new Garmin 245. She said her Garmin broke after she smashed into the hallway wall (don’t ask it’s a normal thing for her). It wouldn’t charge anymore, I said okay I’ll get you a new one. I ordered it and the next day hers was working again, I guess it just needed to recovery from having its head smashed on the wall. It did get myself some new Balega socks, love love them. Dick’s sporting goods was having a buy one get one half off sale. The miniature or you is amazing!!! Wow!!
@marisap2010 yay for hubby!
@Cricketmad88 the weather for most this time of year can make or break us
@martiandale woohoo Theragun! I have a knockoff that is nice.

I finished up the month/year with a 19k run today, first I got too hot and took off the shirt under my jacket... by the end I stopped to put it back on because the wind had picked up and it was cold and raining. At one point I thought I might get blown off the road, but then I got into the woods and it was all better

I'll write out my year-end summary and post it later. Maybe over in the January thread since we're talking about yearly goals.6 -

@rheddmobile I had exactly the same thing, my Speedcross 4s were splitting and leaking. I was really sad about it and looked around for replacement 4s but couldn't find in my size. But look what I opened up today: I'm hoping I love the 5s too. They do seem very promising!
The 3D printing thing is amazing. What a cool thing to have a miniature of yourself!
Nice job on 1300 miles @Tramboman.

The penultimate day of my run streak! (I love the word penultimate and I am only disappointed that I forgot to call yesterday the antepenultimate). I went to run group for a last speedwork of the year, but alas the footing was not great (icy patches) where we run so it wasn't safe to do. It was going to be the infamous dice roll workout but we just did a base run instead. Which was more than fine with me and my sore legs the day after 200 squats and skiing for the first time.
This brings me to 1399.7 miles for the year. I have organized a little run with my friends to close out 2020 and my year long streak - which I have advertised as somewhere "between 20 minutes and 20 miles, let's get this year done". That's the best I can do for a theme, lol. I'm hoping for a longish run if the weather cooperates and I can summon the energy.10 -
@marisap2010 - we have a run the year group if you want to add your team to our list and/or follow along with your progress there. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10819062/2021-run-the-year-group#latest
We have 3 teams so far and could use a few more people if anyone else is interested in signing up
@rheddmobile - love the 3-D figures! That is really awesome! Also those new shoes are gorgeous!
Got a massager similar to a theragun but not as expensive. Like @martaindale I love it. The one I got is designed so you can also pretty easily use it on your shoulders and back which is awesome after a tough strength training workout. I also got new running sunglasses by Tifoli. They were recommended by REI when my SmithOptics deteriorated and even though Smith was great and sent me a credit so I could get a new pair. The new ones slipped constantly so I was always needing to push them up. The Tifoli's are perfect and don't move at all. They also have photo sensitive lenses so they lighten when you go indoors or when it gets cloudy or dark outside. They don't get super light but enough that you can still see well. I am definitely a fan already.
@katharmonic - I agree that you look so happy! I pretty much grew up on skis. My parents put my brothers and me on a bus up to the ski slopes pretty much every weekend in the winter. I loved that feeling of racing down the hills and loved racing (downhill, slalom, giant slalom)! So much fun!! That said I have not been on skis as an adult and would likely fall flat on my face 😂 Between you and @rheddmobile I want trail shoes now even though I never run on trails that require them!
@skippygirlsmom - I discovered Balega socks a bit ago too and wondered why I had never tried them before. I ended up sending my daughter most of my smart wool socks and ordering a few pairs of the Balegas
@TheMrWobbly - I will get signed up on the Run The World Challenge! Sounds like fun!! Thanks so much for setting it up!
Had a Telehealth visit yesterday with my PCP about my hamstring. She wants to rule out sciatic issues before referring me anywhere so I went for X-rays this morning. In the meantime I have a prescribed course of applying heat and stretching or yoga in the morning, icing at night and Aleve or Motrin 2xday for a week. Walking any distance only as long as there is no pain and of course no running as I expected. Like the technician said, this is 2020 so why not an injury! I will get out with Hobbes the Vizsla this afternoon for at least a little walk and maybe one tomorrow too. I only need a little over 2 miles to hit my goal.6 -
Morning all.
Have skimmed today, lots of cool Christmas presents, challenges and run streaks! Love it!
No run today, cross training day for me. So bike ride, then strength. I wrote a new program, that doesn't repeat any exercises but still hits most muscle groups at least twice. I enjoyed it last time, will see how it feels today.
I looked back at Garmin, and I achieved 945.5km for the year. Given my injury in June, I'm actually pretty happy with that.6 -
I tallied up my mileage and I’m at 1209.69 for the year, including walking which I stopped counting separately from my running after my injury in April. Also, my little extra trots behind the grocery store while waiting for my husband to shop added up to 55 extra miles since August!6

@rheddmobile - those 3D figures are brilliant! You’re an action hero!
I’m going to try and join the Run the Year and Run the World challenges. Thanks for sharing. I’m definitely not up to running at the moment but managing my symptoms ok so far. Fingers crossed I won’t be forced to rest too far into January x4
