I’ve finished 2020 with 221km for December and 2444.4km for the year (I find this number strangely pleasing). I’ll revisit my 2020 goals and set sons new ones for 2021 in the January thread.

Loving the shoe porn. My dad was so in awe of the fact that I had run/fast walked over 700 miles this year. They were going to buy me a new pair of shoes for Christmas. Mom insists that I go ahead and order them and let her pay for them because that is what dad wanted. I will, but probably not until after my surgery. I won't need them for a little while anyway. So, my shoe porn will have to wait.
Love the picture @HonuNui ! I assume the ghost ones are pretty rare, so glad you got to see one. I just noticed what you had written on 12/16. Thanks for caring.7 -

It was raining and windy this morning so I just did some yoga. It got colder as the day went on, but it wasn't really raining at lunch time so I got out and ran 2.25 miles. It was a pretty good run. I don't really have much time for a run at lunch, but I was happy to get a couple of miles in. It's supposed to snow tomorrow so I am probably done for the month and the year.

Cloudy and mid 30s F today. Had a little more snow overnight, so did treadmill rather than chance the footing.
In retrospect, 2020 was not a bad running year at all, with the exception of no races. I think because I wasn't doing race training, I did less hard running, but ran for more distance, even though longer runs fell off my training regimen, as did interval training (have I mentioned lately how much I hate interval training?).
I was fortunate to "Run the Year" with @kgirlhart. She carried me through some challenging times.
I had no running injuries. The only physical problems I encountered were long standing issues that I would have to have dealt with whether I was running or not.
And, most important of all, I had all of you. We laughed some; we cried some; and we ran some.
We gazed lustfully at shoe porn, cake porn, and snorkel porn.
What more could one ask for?
See everyone in 2021.

Happy new year @Avidkeo and @ContraryMaryMary and any other Antipodeans I’ve missed! I’m dealing with my Covid aches and pains by thinking to better times and booking various running things - the Run the Year challenge and the Asics London 10K in July. It’s a brilliant route right through the heart of the city- should be fun! Please please let everything be back to norma by then!8

I decided not to run this morning and give my knees a break so I ended December 14 miles over my December goal.
I started this year running very little mileage after foot surgery last year and generally being pissed off to have to basically start over again. 12 miles in January with my highest being 153 in October. So I’m really excited that I ended with 1,165 miles with 282 runs and 24,232 feet of elevation, most of that run in May through December.
I was lucky enough to run 8 races in person, 5 of which were trail races. I ran a bunch of 5Ks for local charities, two half marathons and a bunch of crazy challenges, most all virtual. I virtually ran to the space station not once but twice, I helped raise money for children’s cancer, ran from our hometown to the Flora-Bama line and then up the Pinhoti trail and finally to Gatlinburg, TN. To raise money for the WWII museum in New Orleans I ran the 2020 Liberty Road Challenge commemorating the WWII soldier’s journey from St. Mere Eglisde to Bastogne, Belgium. I ran races for Mother’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I stood in Atlanta and watched my sweet girl run her first full marathon during the Olympic Trails weekend, such a proud moment in my life. Lots of running alone which is actually not a bad thing, lots of time to think about life.
Of course getting back on the running thread and catching back up with old friends and making new ones has been amazing. I know if I try to catch the highs and lows I’ll forget something or someone. Obviously the loss of loved ones is as low as it gets, but like a family we pulled together. Hopefully those who lost a loved one knows our hearts continue to be with you. I know I continue to pray for those friends and for those for lost their jobs, were or are sick of COVID. So many highs of new runners getting it done, new distance PRs, new timed PRs, new babies, marriages, retirements, new shoes, houses and jobs, so much yummy cake, amazing pictures. It’s been a hell of a year. Thank you all for your friendship, for welcoming me back with open arms and for keeping me moving when I didn’t want to. You all are best. But most of all I’m most thankful this year for my girl Skip, I’m blessed to have her.

@katharmonic I need that color Salomon in my life.
@shanaber sorry about the hamstring, I have to say that when my bothers me it tends to come from my sciatic nerve. Hope it's feeling better soon. I love the Balega's, at Fleet Feet one of the managers always tells me about new great stuff he loves. He's older like myself and we agree what we need/want in running stuff usually is different from the younger folks for work there. He turned me on to ones that are ankle high LOVE
I'm seeing lots of great year long miles/kms posted here, awesome job everyone.

Despite everything, you had an amazing year @skippygirlsmom !2
-
Nice job finishing up the year, everyone!
@TheMrWobbly big increase in run miles though!
@skippygirlsmom you did a lot this year and came a long ways! You should be excited about those totals, that's a great comeback. Oh, and that color Salomon is called "Apple Butter/Winetasting/Alloy" which is a weird description of the color. I get the wine part. My previous ones were called Beet red and I loved them and wanted something red again rather than black or blue. Also this color was the cheapest so it made me doubly happy. And, most important of all, I had all of you. We laughed some; we cried some; and we ran some.
We gazed lustfully at shoe porn, cake porn, and snorkel porn.

Picking out these two quotes because they sum it up so well. Ups and downs, but so much support and friendship here. I was just telling a friend today during my run about my online run friends. I felt like I had you all with me as I finished up this last run of the year.11 -
I have @quilteryoyo
@katharmonic thank you. Not exactly the name I would have given those shoes ha ha I was telling my local friends about the race/medal for PastorVincent and they thought our group was so cool, I said you are right it is, very cool.
Great quote from @Tramboman

2021 is a wrap. I didn’t make any goals for the year. I find it’s harder to fail way! I exceeded my monthly goal for December and kept up the Runner’s World streak which ends today. Even though my marathon was cancelled I ran it with some friends. I always said I would not do a virtual marathon but I did. Total running mileage for the year was 1,569.79. Running is the one constant thing in my life (besides work). I’m not good at it but for some reason I keep going. I thank each of you for your friendship and encouragement this past year. You are some amazing people!

I finished out the year and my run streak today with a 10.3 mile long run, which was my first double-digit run of the month. First I went to the gym at 7 for my usual Thursday morning strength training (which it doesn't feel like a Thursday at all, so felt weird). I then changed and headed over to the park to get started running. I had arranged for people to meet up at 9 am, but I was there a little early so I did 2 miles on my own, which was one loop around the bigger of two small lakes. The weather was not terrible at about 36 degrees and because it rained overnight the snow was gone from the trails. There were a couple of big icy patches to navigate but otherwise the trails were pretty good. I wore my new trail shoes and they were great.
8 friends showed up at 9 and we headed out again, a couple of them were walking due to injury but the rest of us ran the lakes - some ran just one loop of both which is about 3 miles total, and 3 of us added a second loop around the smaller lake, which got me to 6 miles total for the day so far. We had a little celebratory sip of salted caramel vodka to say goodbye to 2020 and celebrate my run streak and one other woman in my group who did all 366 days this year as well (she ran/hobbled her minimum 15 minutes to finish the streak and then walked because she has some kind of heel issue, maybe a bone spur, so she's very relieved to be done). Another friend showed up then and she finished out the last 4.3 miles with me, which I was very grateful for. I was tired and would have had a very hard time getting those in without her company.
That got me to 10.3 miles for the day, 131.3 for the month, and 1410.0 for the year (2269 km). 380 days in a row of running. This was 111 miles more than last year, but 17 miles fewer than 2018, which was my highest year when I ran a marathon. If I had realized I would be so close a week or so earlier, I would have gone for it but I was not up for a little over a marathon distance today. I still plan to walk with Stella today so I'll update my total run + walk miles later. For now, I'm very happy to be done with this long run and done with this streak. I'm taking tomorrow and Saturday off so I'm not tempted to do another whole year

Couldn't agree more. I love you all and am more grateful than words can express for your support and kindness.
I ended the year with '*kitten* off 2020' run this morning putting me at a total of 137km for the month, and 989.16 miles for the year. SO FRUSTRATING! But it really was out of my control and at least I know I could hit the 1,000in a perfect year.
See you in 2021, my friends.5 -

I also agree with @katharmonic on those 2 quotes (thanks @tramboman and @skippygirlsmom). They are perfect! I have been in this group for many years and feel like I have long time friends here along with many new friends! It is such a wonderful inspiring group! Thank you all for being here, being so inspirational and motivating and helping when I have been injured or unmotivated to get out the door!
@HonuNui - love your scuba pictures! From what I read with a search on the ghost tang, they are very rare! So awesome that you got to see one and get a picture!
@AlphaHowls - you continue to be amazing! Love seeing how far you are from your starting point and can't believe you have run so many consecutive HM+ days!
@katharmonic - great job on your run streak for over a year! It is phenomenal when you consider all the hiking and other things you were doing!
There are too many others to comment on each individually but like I said before you all continue to inspire me every single day!5 -
@AlphaHowls just amazing! Great year.

@Teresa502 You are so consistent with your running, so I beg to differ about you NOT being good at it. You put one foot in front of the other and keep going. You are GREAT at it in my opinion.
@katharmonic Sounds like a great run today with friends. Congratulations on finishing your streak and so many miles!

You are awesome @AlphaHowls !katharmonic wrote: »And, most important of all, I had all of you.

I felt like I had you all with me as I finished up this last run of the year.2 -
I know someone ( @martaindale?) created the January 2021 challenge, but I've looked back several days and I couldn't find it.
Can someone help a guy out?
Thanks! I'm getting the jitters just thinking about not being able to get my fix from this FANTASTIC group, even for 1 day ❣️🤗💕6 -

My first ever 100 mile month! It was cold with little icy drizzle blowing in my face but actually a nice run. Race day tomorrow and it's going to be chilly. But the rain is blowing out tonight so it should be a really pretty day. See everyone next year!5 -
I just figured up my 2020 totals. I ran 534.44 miles, fast walked 206.82 miles for a total of 741.26 miles. I figure that's not too bad, considering that I only did a total of 18 miles in Oct due to having the heart cath and 3.5 in December due to everything that happened. I know this is my highest year ever in my 61 years of life.
My best month was August with 69.12 miles running and 18.25 walking (87.37 total).
My best week was 7 - 13 Sep with 26.23 miles running (for @PastorVincent ) and 4 miles walking.7
