Cloudy, mid 30s F and windy today. Had a little snow overnight, so opted for treadmill. Got my 1300 mile badge today, so it was a pretty good year running-wise.

Yay for your new shoes!
I got some calf compression sleeves and this pocket thing you can wear on your wrist/forearm and a Theragun!!
I have been wanting to try compression sleeves for my calves since starting winter running in leggings and noticing that my legs have been less tired than when I am an shorts. Mostly longer runs.
And I have been eyeing a theragun for a while. I already have foam rollers and various little things for stretching. This past year I started getting regular massages until COVID shut that down. Massages were great and I definitely noticed a difference once they were gone. The theragun should let me take matters into my own hands a bit. And it's great for climbing recovery too. So far I'm really loving it.5 -

@Faebert so sorry for the positive test, hope you have mild symptoms and recovery quickly
@katharmonic woohoo on the skiing. I have to say I hate to ski, I’ve tried it quite a few times and it’s just something I never cared to do.
@rheddmobile woohoo for new running shoes. I love Salomon, that’s what I trail run in. I brought Skip a ton of socks and a new Garmin 245. She said her Garmin broke after she smashed into the hallway wall (don’t ask it’s a normal thing for her). It wouldn’t charge anymore, I said okay I’ll get you a new one. I ordered it and the next day hers was working again, I guess it just needed to recovery from having its head smashed on the wall. It did get myself some new Balega socks, love love them. Dick’s sporting goods was having a buy one get one half off sale. The miniature or you is amazing!!! Wow!!
@marisap2010 yay for hubby!
@Cricketmad88 the weather for most this time of year can make or break us
@martiandale woohoo Theragun! I have a knockoff that is nice.

I finished up the month/year with a 19k run today, first I got too hot and took off the shirt under my jacket... by the end I stopped to put it back on because the wind had picked up and it was cold and raining. At one point I thought I might get blown off the road, but then I got into the woods and it was all better

I'll write out my year-end summary and post it later. Maybe over in the January thread since we're talking about yearly goals.6 -
rheddmobile wrote: »The other pair was a replacement for my beloved Salomon speedcross 4s which I have had so long that the side finally started to split. I updated to the 5s and so far they seem better in all ways - my only issues with the 4s were the forefoot was a little narrow and the heel tended to slip, and the 5s are wider through the forefoot with a more locked in heel. They are even more lugtastic than the very luggy 4s, which have such big lugs that they feel almost like running on cleats when worn on roads. But great on grass, mud, or slick trails. I wore them in and out of creeks today on slick mossy rocks with no problems.
@rheddmobile I had exactly the same thing, my Speedcross 4s were splitting and leaking. I was really sad about it and looked around for replacement 4s but couldn't find in my size. But look what I opened up today: I'm hoping I love the 5s too. They do seem very promising!
The 3D printing thing is amazing. What a cool thing to have a miniature of yourself!
Nice job on 1300 miles @Tramboman.
@martaindale ooh, a theragun. I really want one. I miss massages too.

The penultimate day of my run streak! (I love the word penultimate and I am only disappointed that I forgot to call yesterday the antepenultimate). I went to run group for a last speedwork of the year, but alas the footing was not great (icy patches) where we run so it wasn't safe to do. It was going to be the infamous dice roll workout but we just did a base run instead. Which was more than fine with me and my sore legs the day after 200 squats and skiing for the first time.
This brings me to 1399.7 miles for the year. I have organized a little run with my friends to close out 2020 and my year long streak - which I have advertised as somewhere "between 20 minutes and 20 miles, let's get this year done". That's the best I can do for a theme, lol. I'm hoping for a longish run if the weather cooperates and I can summon the energy.10 -
@marisap2010 - we have a run the year group if you want to add your team to our list and/or follow along with your progress there. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10819062/2021-run-the-year-group#latest
We have 3 teams so far and could use a few more people if anyone else is interested in signing up
@rheddmobile - love the 3-D figures! That is really awesome! Also those new shoes are gorgeous!
Got a massager similar to a theragun but not as expensive. Like @martaindale I love it. The one I got is designed so you can also pretty easily use it on your shoulders and back which is awesome after a tough strength training workout. I also got new running sunglasses by Tifoli. They were recommended by REI when my SmithOptics deteriorated and even though Smith was great and sent me a credit so I could get a new pair. The new ones slipped constantly so I was always needing to push them up. The Tifoli's are perfect and don't move at all. They also have photo sensitive lenses so they lighten when you go indoors or when it gets cloudy or dark outside. They don't get super light but enough that you can still see well. I am definitely a fan already.
@katharmonic - I agree that you look so happy! I pretty much grew up on skis. My parents put my brothers and me on a bus up to the ski slopes pretty much every weekend in the winter. I loved that feeling of racing down the hills and loved racing (downhill, slalom, giant slalom)! So much fun!! That said I have not been on skis as an adult and would likely fall flat on my face 😂 Between you and @rheddmobile I want trail shoes now even though I never run on trails that require them!
@skippygirlsmom - I discovered Balega socks a bit ago too and wondered why I had never tried them before. I ended up sending my daughter most of my smart wool socks and ordering a few pairs of the Balegas
@TheMrWobbly - I will get signed up on the Run The World Challenge! Sounds like fun!! Thanks so much for setting it up!
Had a Telehealth visit yesterday with my PCP about my hamstring. She wants to rule out sciatic issues before referring me anywhere so I went for X-rays this morning. In the meantime I have a prescribed course of applying heat and stretching or yoga in the morning, icing at night and Aleve or Motrin 2xday for a week. Walking any distance only as long as there is no pain and of course no running as I expected. Like the technician said, this is 2020 so why not an injury! I will get out with Hobbes the Vizsla this afternoon for at least a little walk and maybe one tomorrow too. I only need a little over 2 miles to hit my goal.6 -
Morning all.
Have skimmed today, lots of cool Christmas presents, challenges and run streaks! Love it!
No run today, cross training day for me. So bike ride, then strength. I wrote a new program, that doesn't repeat any exercises but still hits most muscle groups at least twice. I enjoyed it last time, will see how it feels today.
I looked back at Garmin, and I achieved 945.5km for the year. Given my injury in June, I'm actually pretty happy with that.6 -
I tallied up my mileage and I’m at 1209.69 for the year, including walking which I stopped counting separately from my running after my injury in April. Also, my little extra trots behind the grocery store while waiting for my husband to shop added up to 55 extra miles since August!6
-
@rheddmobile - those 3D figures are brilliant! You’re an action hero!
I’m going to try and join the Run the Year and Run the World challenges. Thanks for sharing. I’m definitely not up to running at the moment but managing my symptoms ok so far. Fingers crossed I won’t be forced to rest too far into January x4 -
I’ve finished 2020 with 221km for December and 2444.4km for the year (I find this number strangely pleasing). I’ll revisit my 2020 goals and set sons new ones for 2021 in the January thread.
Happy New Year!6 -

Loving the shoe porn. My dad was so in awe of the fact that I had run/fast walked over 700 miles this year. They were going to buy me a new pair of shoes for Christmas. Mom insists that I go ahead and order them and let her pay for them because that is what dad wanted. I will, but probably not until after my surgery. I won't need them for a little while anyway. So, my shoe porn will have to wait.
Love the picture @HonuNui ! I assume the ghost ones are pretty rare, so glad you got to see one. I just noticed what you had written on 12/16. Thanks for caring.7 -

It was raining and windy this morning so I just did some yoga. It got colder as the day went on, but it wasn't really raining at lunch time so I got out and ran 2.25 miles. It was a pretty good run. I don't really have much time for a run at lunch, but I was happy to get a couple of miles in. It's supposed to snow tomorrow so I am probably done for the month and the year.

Cloudy and mid 30s F today. Had a little more snow overnight, so did treadmill rather than chance the footing.
In retrospect, 2020 was not a bad running year at all, with the exception of no races. I think because I wasn't doing race training, I did less hard running, but ran for more distance, even though longer runs fell off my training regimen, as did interval training (have I mentioned lately how much I hate interval training?).
I was fortunate to "Run the Year" with @kgirlhart. She carried me through some challenging times.
I had no running injuries. The only physical problems I encountered were long standing issues that I would have to have dealt with whether I was running or not.
And, most important of all, I had all of you. We laughed some; we cried some; and we ran some.
We gazed lustfully at shoe porn, cake porn, and snorkel porn.
What more could one ask for?
See everyone in 2021.

Happy new year @Avidkeo and @ContraryMaryMary and any other Antipodeans I’ve missed! I’m dealing with my Covid aches and pains by thinking to better times and booking various running things - the Run the Year challenge and the Asics London 10K in July. It’s a brilliant route right through the heart of the city- should be fun! Please please let everything be back to norma by then!8

135 (139) of 125 miles
I decided not to run this morning and give my knees a break so I ended December 14 miles over my December goal.
I started this year running very little mileage after foot surgery last year and generally being pissed off to have to basically start over again. 12 miles in January with my highest being 153 in October. So I’m really excited that I ended with 1,165 miles with 282 runs and 24,232 feet of elevation, most of that run in May through December.
I was lucky enough to run 8 races in person, 5 of which were trail races. I ran a bunch of 5Ks for local charities, two half marathons and a bunch of crazy challenges, most all virtual. I virtually ran to the space station not once but twice, I helped raise money for children’s cancer, ran from our hometown to the Flora-Bama line and then up the Pinhoti trail and finally to Gatlinburg, TN. To raise money for the WWII museum in New Orleans I ran the 2020 Liberty Road Challenge commemorating the WWII soldier’s journey from St. Mere Eglisde to Bastogne, Belgium. I ran races for Mother’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I stood in Atlanta and watched my sweet girl run her first full marathon during the Olympic Trails weekend, such a proud moment in my life. Lots of running alone which is actually not a bad thing, lots of time to think about life.
Of course getting back on the running thread and catching back up with old friends and making new ones has been amazing. I know if I try to catch the highs and lows I’ll forget something or someone. Obviously the loss of loved ones is as low as it gets, but like a family we pulled together. Hopefully those who lost a loved one knows our hearts continue to be with you. I know I continue to pray for those friends and for those for lost their jobs, were or are sick of COVID. So many highs of new runners getting it done, new distance PRs, new timed PRs, new babies, marriages, retirements, new shoes, houses and jobs, so much yummy cake, amazing pictures. It’s been a hell of a year. Thank you all for your friendship, for welcoming me back with open arms and for keeping me moving when I didn’t want to. You all are best. But most of all I’m most thankful this year for my girl Skip, I’m blessed to have her.
