Depends... for road races you might be happier and faster with some lighter weight, less luggy shoes. Your new shoes look like the lugs are pretty big, doesn’t it feel a bit rough on roads?
I never had road shoes as I started running down the Cuckoo trail when I started. It turns out that is mostly tarmac so I probably shouldn't have. Now each route is half on asphalt and half on compacted dirt or gravel on top of compacted dirt so I think I will stick with trail shoes for those and I keep buying the new versions of the originals as I know I like them. Now to go and find some road shoes to match for the main event (if it ever happens!)
Daisy - woof, woof!

@TheMrWobbly I'm impressed you can run on asphalt in trail shoes, half a km of that before I reach the dirt track I use them on is more than enough for me!
@marisap2010 hope all goes well, my mother's 12yo dog had a huge tumour removed from her front leg a month or so ago, they were worried about her but she was back to normal within hours and demanding dinner early because she's missed breakfast!
Shoe porn just because: They're my usual model but the colour that was on offer. Maybe they'll make me run like a girl?

@katharmonic I think it is interesting about the treadmill. My first thought when I started reading your response was "What? People who are there to exercise don't want to walk up the stairs to get on a treadmill?" But, I can see how they would think it is a display. I think it would be cool to run on it, overlooking everyone else. Sort of like the queen of the gym. LOL
@marisap2010 Prayers for Daisy today. I hope the surgery goes well and they find that it is NOT cancer. My late husband was from Georgia. He grew up in Adairsville and has a niece in Kennesaw. I thought he had worked at Robins AFB, but looked it up and it was Dobbins AF Reserve in Marietta. Still a small world, just not as small as I originally thought. LOL
Nice shoe porn @eleanorhawkins ! I like those colors.3 -

Cloudy and low 30s F today. Weather radar showed some light snow around; it didn't start snowing here until I went outside to stretch. Wind kept switching around so it could blow in my face.
Shoe porn is the best way to start the day.
Hope Daisy's surgery goes well.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

marisap2010 wrote: »Keep my Bassett Daisy in your thoughts today, please. She is having an tumor removed, and we’ll find out if it is cancerous. I’m really worried about her going under anesthesia since she is older, even though the vet said her labs looked ok for it. She is angry with me currently because she can’t eat or drink, so she is being very antisocial.

The RtW2021 team are steaming along towards Paris. We had a guided tour of Amiens where they have yet another Notre Dame (no originality the French 😉) Then skipped passed the old jousting grounds at Rouen, good job they didn't know I was English or I might have ended up on the wrong end of lance! Just a hop and a skip to the city of love!8

@marisap2010 thinking of Daisy! Hope she does really well with the anesthesia and the prognosis is good.
@quilteryoyo - yes! I do feel like queen of the gym. And it's it good people watching.
Nice shoes @eleanorhawkins! What brand are those?

About 35 degrees and light snow for today's long run. I sincerely did not want to do it today but I am short on time tomorrow and it's supposed to be very cold this weekend, so today it was (as I'm still on winter break, I'm taking advantage of that flexibility while I can). I met up with the coach and a small group. Options were kind of limited as the canal trails were reported to be too icy. So we did roads and a lot of looping. Which involved hills, perhaps in revenge for my avoidance of hill repeats earlier in the week. Like @Tramboman reports, the wind seemed to be constantly at my face no matter where we were in the loop. The snow picked up a bit too, and added some pellets to the face. I ended up mostly running it alone as no one else was going my pace or the same distance. I got tired of the looping and did try out the canal trail for a bit but yes it was not great footing. I had worn my trail shoes so the whole thing being on roads was not great as we just discussed. Overall, it was all kind of a slog but very happy that it's done.

Our winter left us! For the last 2 days it has been low 60's and 98% humidity when I headed out to run before 7am. What?!? January is basically the only month you can usually count on cool weather in Houston, and we are barely getting that. And it's rainy. That's enough, time for the next cold front!
It's not terrible and I'm not really complaining. More just wishing I could have a touch of cold for a bit longer.4 -
@katharmonic they're Adidas SolarGlide. When I started running I bought Asics because they were the only brand the local Decathlon sold apart from their own. Then while we were in Tenerife on holiday the summer before my first HM there was a big sports shop that did gait analysis and fitting.... he handed me a pair of Brroks Glycerin which were out of my price range (still looking for a cheap pair of those!) followed by these Adidas. I was under the impression that Adidas were more for posing than for running, but they actually work very well for me. I still have a pair of Asics Cumulus I wear when it rains because the Adidas are very slippery, but they make my legs hurt after around 300 miles. I can get at least 450 out of the Adidas.3

Morning all!
Well im both tired and elated! This morning I was up at 520am, scoffed breakfast, then ran 13k! It is a beautiful, though a bit cool, morning with a slight head wind at the beginning, that turned into a nice tail wind for the return.
I am so excited to be at this point in my training. Calf is almost always pain free - had a bit of tightness yesterday but no issues at all on the run. Hips are a bit stiff, and I made sure I did a lot of stretching after.
Rear day tomorrow, and we'll earned!11 -

Woohoo @avidkeo. Totally stoked for you.2

@katharmonic Glad you got your long run in, even if you felt like it was a slug. Those conditions sound brutal.
@martaindale Hope you get a little bit more cool weather before winter is done.
So glad your calf isn't bothering you anymore @Avidkeo ! You're doing great.

I am still getting my daily walks in. Yesterday, I did a couple of miles on the treadmill as it was cold and rainy. Today, I walked to my mom's (and past), spent some time with her, then she and I walked half a mile before I walked back home. I did a total of 2.5 miles today...the longest since my surgery.16

So far, life has NOT gone according to plan! I've only gotten in 2 runs so far...and then the nasty "friend" of migraine decided to visit me for a few days. Had one for 4 days, then literally 1 1/2 days of relief....and BAM another one hit me for another 3 days of pain! (not running related, it hit a couple days after the run)
Of course, then school started, and I've been busy getting back into the routine with that, then the cold & snow...I have moved the plan down a few weeks, and Monday I plan to get back to it. There is even an "Non-cancelled" race at the end of the 10K training plan. They will be having it (Marathon, HM, 10K & 5K), permits in hand. There are also virtual options available, but my goal is to do the 10K. Legs permitting.
And, to be honest, I am NOT reading through over 300 posts to get caught up, sorry. Hugs to those to need them, Likes to those who should get them, and "Atta boy/girl" to everyone who is getting at it!12 -

I was too tired to post my run last night. But I ran 5 miles yesterday. It was a pretty good run, but chillier than I expected it to feel. Since I didn't run on Tuesday I ran 6 miles today. Today's run was better than yesterday's. I should have stopped at 5 miles, but I was enjoying it so I just ran further. I did have to work though or I might have gone longer. Tomorrow will be a rest day. I'm hoping to sleep in some. I need to start going to bed earlier. I haven't had a chance to get caught up on the thread yet. But I am pretty tired now so I may have to catch up tomorrow.

*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not the world?

Great running everyone!
@TheMrWobbly - loving the flybys!
@marisap2010 - I hope Daisy's surgery went well and she is now recovering. Hobbes the Vizsla, while younger has had surgery for tumors twice and come through with flying colors. They do seem to bounce back pretty well.
Speaking of dogs - has anyone heard from @mbaker566? I wonder how she is doing with all the snow and ice and her pups and fosters.
I got out for a run yesterday and despite new shoes (see below) and a Hamilton run planned, I just couldn't get my legs going. Also my hamstring hurt so bad I thought I may have reinsured it and was sure it would be terrible today as it still hurt when I got up.
However I needed to get out because it was supposed to be beautiful today and raining on Saturday (yay we need it so badly!). It was as beautiful was they predicted and right around 60F. It was very windy on the outbound part to the point of making it hard to breathe and I kept feeling like I wasn't moving or making any progress. I also almost fell over a couple of times when the wind changed direction and let up the pressure against me. We ran on the dirt service road because I forgot my mask and I was worried there would be too many people on the paved trail to run without it. Coming back though after getting the pup a drink we ran down a bit on the paved trail too just because it was so very nice out and didn't encounter anyone. All in all it was a great run. My hamstring was great for the most part, didn't hurt during or after.
Shoe Porn Pictures from today's runA huge flock of gulls took flight from the river as we were running circling up and around us with half eventually settling back in the river and the rest on the other side in one of the lakes. I stopped as I really didn't want to run under them and take a chance of an inadvertent bombing. Honestly it looked like a scene from the movie The Birds (dating myself I am sure lol)Date..........Miles........Total
